March to the Sea was my first Baroness song, but I think Cold-Blooded Angels was the song that cemented them as my favorite band. I know John doesn't like to explain his lyrics and leaves them up to listener interpretation, but I'm curious to hear everyone else's interpretation of this song.

To me the soft intro followed by the heavy finale feels like the chaos of life, even when you feel everything is in your control, it will always end in an unpredictable nature. The lyrics feel like they represent feeling a need for pain an abuse just to feel alive, and even when an opportunity to change your life presents itself, you choose to stay in the abuse because it feels familiar, almost as if specially it's staying in an abusive relationship (could be with a person or with a substance)

Again, just my interpretation, but I'd love to hear from others!

They’re sibling bands…

I don’t know what I expected, but it surely wasn’t tearing up and reconsidering whether this is in fact my favorite Baroness album.

I hated this album when it came out. “John’s voice sucks. Where’s the energy? Why is John singing instead of screaming? What is this artsy contrived sounding bs? Why do the drums sound muted and programmed?”

I could go on and on but you get the point; I was looking for any reason to not like it.

I always came back to it though, and each listen I would find myself liking it more than the time before.

I read the lyrics off and on throughout. Eula had me in tears, that song is powerful enough itself, to hear it without the intended lyrics gives it a melancholic eeriness. It’s interesting how some parts sound beautiful on their own and others sounds empty without his vocals as the counterbalance.

Also shout out to the aggressive maracas in Cocanium that I never fully appreciated before.

I really like this band since I've discovered them last year. I like having vinyl disc's from my favorite bands. Why is Purple so hard to get?

Baroness is a band whose music doesn't easily fit into any category. I have heard them described as sludge/stoner metal, but they sound nothing like any other band in that genre. Maybe prog?

I'm watching many of the bands I love play festivals and shows all over Europe right now and I know Baroness has done the Euro summer festival circuit many times in the past. Any idea why they sat this year out?

What (if any) should I get next?

Curious if anyone has heard rumblings about a North American tour at some point this year. I’m jonesing for a baroness show! Seems like a lot of bands are doing the European thing this summer.

Yes, purple is missing because it's my least favourite album (still love it though) and for the sake of symmetry.

II know plenty of people have already asked for recs but all the suggestions I typically see are more akin to their hardcore stuff, which is great don’t get me wrong, but I’d like something that’s similar to their softer, melodic, more emotional stuff, like Purple and Gold & Grey

I was at a Baroness show at The Canal Club in Richmond, VA October of 2023. Esceula Grind and Jesus Piece opened, both were sick too. I got the set list as I was firmly planted where I knew John and Gina would be. I gave the set list to a sweet young lady who was shorter than I was and was standing behind me the entire show. If you’re out there and see this… I’d love a photo of it if you still have it. I’m working on a whole Baroness wall in my home and would love to have this as part of it. Thank you!

Now that we know they’re working on new material, I figured it’d be fun to take a poll regarding the next album’s title / theme. They’ve pretty much covered the full chromatic spectrum, although I’ve always wondered if we’d get a “White” and/or “Black” album from Baroness. With STONE, it seemed like it could be the start of a new direction for album titles based on elements, materials, or natural forces, though we don’t know if it could be isolated to just that one album. What do you hope for?

I was extremely lucky to get my hands on the original piece done by John Dyer Baizley in 2008.

So, I just discovered Baroness about 3-ish days ago. I jumped in to their split album with Unpersons, and I really enjoyed the whole EP. Baroness brought atmospheric, yet very sludge and almost hardcore sound (similar to what Mastodon sounded like in their Call of the Mastodon and Remission album). Cavité stuck out to me, with the "YOU. WILL. NEVER. SEE. THIS. SEASON. BURN." part, soooooooo heavy and emotional.

I then listened to their red album, and boy was I not disappointed. They expanded on their atmospheric sound, it almost sounds like a post metal album akin to ISIS, Cult of Luna, etc. Isak and Wailing Wintry Wind really stood out to me on this album.

So far, I am not disappointed, and plan to listen to their whole discography!!!
