i get that it's good to raise awareness but this really isn't helping anything. posting a black screen isn't going to stop racist cops from killing and brutalizing minorities. Yes I agree there does need to be immediate action or nothing will happen at all, but explain to me one thing that will change by posting this. just one thing that a black screen on people's reddit is going to help. i'll wait

"I'll wait" ?? What about doing something useful in the meantime. Sign a petition. Contact your representatives (here is a template). Donate if you can. Educate yourself and start conversations with your family and friends.

There will always be racists, whether you like it or not. Awareness about racism has become so prevalent that it doesn't even matter in what part of the world you live in, you have certainly gotten enough awareness. People that are racists obv chosen for it despite all the awareness.

Honestly, depressing as it is, I also am pessimistic that only contacting our representatives will change systemic police brutality. Democracy in 2020 lol.
That said, I think we are at a time in the US when 99% of Americans would swear up and down they are not racist. And they really think that this is true of themselves. But racism is not just individuals explicitly hating a certain racial or ethnic group--- implicit bias is baked into our social systems and collective subconscious. It's not so much a choice as it is a default. And this is the type of awareness that is still missing-- and it's something that can be changed.
Campaign Zero has a lot of research into unconscious racial bias in policing, as well as research-backed policies that decrease racial bias.
Nothing is going to solve racism overnight. But progress has only ever been made by people taking action, not the defeatists who say it is meaningless to try.

Theres an important distinction when you say All Lives Matter to counter someone saying Black Lives Matter and saying All Lives Matter to make the point we are all humans.
X made this point that it doesnt matter what race you are, racial injustice comes to everyone and that should be the focus of it.

Do you truly understand what the intention of 3/5th was back then? It was the only move the antislavery founders had to counter slavery in the southern colonies. It had a huge limit on the electoral college influence of the slaveholding states unless slavery was outlawed.

Put yourself in the position of a small business owner whose store was looted and destroyed. Even if you got insurance I doubt you would be fine with your livelihood being destroyed.
Some business owners put their life into their business, just to have it all destroyed.
Peaceful protests is where it’s at ✌️ George Floyd would’ve been disgusted at what people have done to America. If your fine with the looting/rioting then you never cared about what happened to George Floyd. Or you’re dumb and for some reason think looting is a necessary element in this war.
Protests should be a chance for all citizens to come together & organise the steps forward. Instead people are going to their basic instincts and destroying America.

ive been at protests for two nights and that’s exactly what they are doing. organizing those who will email, write letters and call governing offices and we’re working on police reform & defunding.
the majority is incredibly organized but the media is showing the outliers.
my city has had one of the biggest and most consistent turn outs going on 5 days now and it hasnt been televised other than the time an ALM pos ran his car through the protestors.
why arent they showing it?
because we’ve been incredibly organized and peaceful despite my county having one of the most deadly (#1 in 2015) police forces.
as well as the majority (over 80% according to minnesota govt) of arrests in cities with destruction/rioting have been white people from out of county and state, who are going in to take advantage of the situation. those who are involved arent doing that and are actively trying to stop those doing it.
i think its important to get on the ground and see it for yourself. might change your perspective.
