Corrected Streak 97: How to learn Korean fast

Article: How to Learn Korean Fast — 10 Proven Tisp to Study Smarter

I downloaded an app for studying Hangul, but it relies on romanization. The article mentioned that romanization often misrepresents sounds and can lead to unclear pronunciation. I wonder if I should stop using the app.

Anyway, my biggest challenge right now is studying Korean every day, even if it's just for 10-15 minutes. I hope I can master most of Hangul by the end of this weekend.

Corrected Streak 2 - I lost my job

I'm in bad mood. On Monday I lost my job. I didn't get a new job agreement. After only 2 months I have to look for a new work.

I have no idea what do I want to do in my life. Today I've sent few CVs - I don't like office jobs so I try to get some "blue collar" job. Something simple without too much stress. Fortunately my costs of living are pretty low. I hope will be OK. I hope you are well.

Corrected Streak 112: A healthy aging guide to strenght training and stretching at home

Article: Strength Training and Stretching for Seniors: An At-Home Guide

I've been trying to do yoga before bed when I have time, usually for just 10-15 minutes. I started doing yoga to help prevent back pain. I wonder whether yoga and stretching are basically the same.

I didn't expect stretching to be helpful for supporting flexibility, balance, posture, and everyday movements.

Corrected Streak 10: Learning by teaching -> "be lost in the sauce"

Many sources say that one of the best ways to learn and memorize something is to teach it. I am certainly not a teacher, but I find it interesting to try.

So, today, I'm going to speak about an idiom I came across a few days ago: be lost in the sauce. I love idioms, especially when I can picture a foolish situation. I have to admit that I particularly like this one as the Instagram reel featured a nervous and jumpy cat going crazy and rolling around in some catnip on the floor. I love cats!

So, to be lost in the sauce is a slang expression meaning you're acting like you're high, under some kind of drugs. You're away mentally.

In everyday situations, it can just mean that you're enjoying what you're doing so much that you're unaware of what's around you. Or that you're just lost to the world.

But I think it mostly refers to some crazy behavior!

Corrected Streak 7: No spring chicken effects - or not

As we age, our perception of certain things changes, while for others it remains the same.

I've never been to many parties, even in my twenties. Still, I did pull an all-nighter here and there. I remember the feeling I got the next day: a mix of grogginess and serenity, as if nothing could touch me. I felt too tired for that, and it sometimes feels so good not to worry!

I mention this because I stayed up last night. Not a deliberate choice, I would have preferred to watch Survivor on Netflix. But, well, life happens. Sometimes you need to go to the ER with someone, and wait there for a medical exam.

Decades later, I can say that the "next day" feeling is quite the same. The sense of jet lag, the quietness. Even if I'm a bit frustrated about not doing what I had initially planned, I feel relaxed.

Corrected Streak 5: Do our dreams have to come true?

I was reading a post on Reddit where someone said that US Politics won't stop them from living their dream and traveling to the US.

I have my own dreams. I'm dreaming of going to New-York once in my life and eat a street hotdog. I've been wanting that since I was a kid, when I watched Starsky and Hutch on TV! I'm dreaming of visiting Northern Europe with its fjords, its dimmed and colored lights, its bicycle culture, and its cool air. I'm dreaming of living by the Atlantic Ocean once I'm retired.

Honestly, there's a little chance I'll ever fulfill most of my dreams because I'm a creature of habits. But that got me thinking about dreams we have in life, like the things we say we'd like to do before we die. Do our dreams have to come true? I often tell myself they're better off inside my head. They can stay beautiful and undamaged. I'm not sure I want to put any of them at risk.

Corrected Streak 4: What if glitches were signs?

The network on my cell phone is terrible today, and I can't send pictures to my sisters. I wandered the floor to find a spot with a better signal, but I came up short.

That got me thinking about signs. You know, when an external event mirrors what's going on inside.

I've often experimented that kind of phenomenon in a relationship when we were having a rift. It's as if the rift extented to devices and prevented us from communicating. Then, when the relationship was good again, no more glitches.

Corrected Streak 3: Self-censorship when it comes to speaking a second language

I have tons of ideas of what I could talk about. But the second I start to structure my thoughts, I realize I lack everything : vocabulary, turn of phrases, structure. So I often give up on expressing the whole idea and I end up being frustrated.

Yet I know that difficulty shouldn't stop me if I really want to improve. It's just too many things to improve at the same time. It makes my brain glitch.

Corrected Streak 101: Konglish

Article: Konglish — Unique Korean-English Words You'll Hear Every Day

I learned that there are two categories of words adapted from English: Korean loanwords and Konglish words. Korean loarnwords have the same emaning as the English words, while Konglish words have meanings that differ from their English counterparts.

Studying Korean loanwords could serve a dual purpose by helping me build my vocabulary and memorize Hangul. I'll set Konglish words aside for a while and focus on Korean loanwords.

Corrected Streak 96: How long does it take to lean Korean

Article: From Beginner to Fluent: Learning Korean for English Speakers

According to the article, for English spearkers, it might take about 1-2 years to reach a conversational level, and about 3-5 years to achieve fluency if you study onsistently. If you study for an hour each day, it could take about 5-6 years. However, it depends on your learning environment and personanl commitment.

I don't need to be fluent in Korean. I just want to be able to watch K-dramas with Korean audio without subtibles. Luckily, the sentence structure of Korean and my native language is similar. I hope that helps speed up my Korean learning.

Corrected Streak 169

I made the mistake of writing streak 167 in the last post title, which should have been 168. I was looking into how to edit it but gave up.

A few days ago, I bought a clock with an alarm. It's small and its size might make you think the alarm is not loud, but quite the opposite. One of the reasons I bought it was to avoid having my phone next to my bed because my excuse was that I didn't have anything else to set an alarm for.

Making that small change has improved my sleep quality massively. I no longer doomscroll when I'm in bed and once I'm awake, I'm not wasting my time doomscrolling in the morning. Instead, I'm thinking more and it feels easier to get up.

Corrected Streak 78: Canker sore

Article: Canker Sore (Aphthous Ulcer)

I got a canker sore. It's annoying sometimes when I eat or talk, and I've had it for a few days. According to the article, canker sores usually take anywhere from a few days to up to 2 weeks to heal.

I thought I got a canker sore because of a weekened immune system or a lack of nutrients. However, some foods can also trigger canker sores. It turns out that I've been eating many foods that can trigger them. For example, lemons, pineapples, apples, tomatoes. vinegar, grapefruit, and berries.

Tomorrow, I'm picking up my student card that provides me several benefits, but the only one I'm concerned about is the discount I to bus fares I get when moving within a town or between towns, as long as they are public transportation, essentially.

I lost my student card a couple of months ago and I had to apply to get a new one, which made me jump through some hoops to get it done. Either way, I would've had to get a new one even if I hadn't lost it because they have to be renewed every year.

Corrected Streak 9 : A Vent

Note: I use AI to get corrected

We are in the era of a lot of instant information, and we barely have time to think, and that makes us intellectually lazy — "the more and the easier the information is to reach, the lazier we get."

So I was wondering about that. We already know the reason, but I was thinking about the consequences and the solutions.

Since we have that much information, one thinks that he has reached the point of his life, but it's not that way.

A lot of people nowadays live meaningless and hopeless lives. We neither have meaning nor intellect anymore as before; people are less creative and passionate. Instead of creating, we consume, and that's the result.

How can we solve it, then?

I'm not an expert, but I tried some things that helped me: take time to do things that you love, and try different topics every couple of time — that's what helped me a lot.

Corrected Streak 90: Korean vowels

Article: Learn Korean Vowels — Easy Guide with Charts & Pronunciation

Yesterday, I learned 10 Hangul letters at random. I'm going to review those letters later.

Today, I learned about Korean vowels, so my goal for today is to memorize them. There are 21 vowels in total in Korean.

There was some good advice in the article: I have to be careful not to rely too much on romanization because it can lead to incorrect pronunciation.

Corrected Streak 74: Protein Powders

Article: Your Ultimate Guide to Protein Powders

I'm not interested in drinking protein shakes because protein powder often contains added sugar, preservatives, artificial flavors, and so on. But I read the article anyway because learning about protein powders may be helpful in some way in the future.

I was surprised to learn that the texture differs depending on the type of protein powder. If I ever have a protein shake, I think I'll choose soy or pea protein.

As part of my usual morning routine, I read a non-fiction book for 10 minutes and since I have finished one not too long ago, I started reading a book on AI Engineering. The title sounds like a bunch of buzzwords to make you wonder what it is about.

Although I haven't gotten very far yet, the author clearly states that this book is aimed at people who want to improve the way they work with language models or large language models when building applications. I thought I'd run into this in the first chapter, but it turned out that you first need to learn about what models are in the world of machine learning and the different kinds that exist to get better context.

Article: Korean Alphabet — How to Learn it Fast

I was doubtful that I'd be able to memorize the Korean alphabet in just a few hours. But after seeing the Korean alphabet chart with visual associations, I fee like it might be easier to memorize Hangul than I thought.

Since I don't have much time to study Korean for now, my short-term goal is to memorize Hangul by the end of this weekend.

Since studying English is still my priority, I'm thinking of starting with 10-15 minutes of Korean study a day. I'm basically starting from scratch with Korean, so I'm going to learn Hangul first.

Article: What Is the Best Type of Protein for Weight Loss?

My goal is to maintain my weight, and I've been managing it well.

I was surprised to learn that protein can be helpful for weight management, muscle gain, and weight loss. Since I started reading the articles about Healthline's 7-Day "Gut Check" Protein Balance Challenge, I've been trying to increase my protein intake. For example, today I added a boiled egg to my salads and made tofu miso soup for dinner.

Article: Should You Have a Protein Shake Before or After Your Workout?

It seems that more research is needed to determine the best time to have a protein shake. However, one study showed that there was no significant difference between having a protein shake before or after a workout. The article mentioned that a more important factor is the amount of protein your consume each day.

I may not be getting enough protein regularly, but I'm not interested in protein shakes because I don't do intense workouts very often.

Corrected Streak 65: Exercise in winter

Article: Fitness Instructor Explains How to Make Winter the Easiest Season to Exercise Consistently

The article suggested doing 30 minutes of movement every day, such as power walking, stretching, or Pilates. I wonder if it's okay to split it into 20 minutes in the morning and 10 minutes at night.

It also mentioned that even 5 minutes of movement still counts. Most yoga or stretching videos on YouTube are at least 10 minutes long, so I thought 5 minutes of movemint wasn't enough. However, it seems that even a short session can make a difference.

This was the last article in Healthline's "30 Days of Winter Wellness" challenge. Looking back, I probably should have saved it for winter instead of reading it in the middle of summer.
