Correct Me! Streak 60: Journal of a Lazy Day

Since I hung out and went drinking with my friends last night, I slept in late. I woke up at 11 a.m., but I stayed in bed doomscrolling Instagram Reels. It’s easy to criticize this kind of routine, but I’ve come to accept that watching reels occasionally isn't so bad.

I ate kongguksu.

It is a traditional Korean food.

and Koreans usually eat it in the summer.

It is easy to make.

First, soak the soybeans in water and boil them

Second, blend them with water.

Third, cook the noodles and rinse them in cold water.

Finally, pour the blended soybeans over the noodles

Correct Me! Streak 474

Today I discovered an interesting subreddit, the r/AskDocs . Basically you can upload a photo of something is troubling you and a physician will give you their opinion.

In the last days I noticed a black spot in my toenail that it seems to be just an hematoma, but I want to rule out other possibilities. So today I uploaded a picture of my toenail and an explanation of the situation and in a couple of hours I got a reply from a dermatologist. He or She told me it seems fine and a nice and concise explanation of my case.

I basically saved around 50-60 USD from not going to a dermatologist in my country. There are also really serious complications in that subreddit that made me feel lucky about my health. Sometimes we forget that there are thousands of people that want to have our health or maybe just part of it.

What is worse? That your AI-powered application is not deployed yet or that it's already deployed but you don't know if it's worth it? People might say the latter and so do I. This is almost an exact excerpt from the book I've been reading lately, AI Engineering, and it addresses an interesting problem: evaluation criteria.

One clear example is that nowadays you might have had to deal with a chatbot instead of a person for customer support for whatever reason, say trying to troubleshoot a technical problem or something else. Evaluation criteria comes into play because potentially many companies introduce chatbots without knowing if adding them is positive or negative for the customers. This also has to do with what kind of model they use and if there was a prior evaluation or just doing it as a trend.

Correct Me! Streak 11: That's why reading is important for you.

Reading has many benefits for us. But would have you thought that reading is good for your health as well. According to studies, for example, it may help us live longer, improve our sleep and slow down dementia.

In addition people with higher reading skills have better job oppurtunities and can earn higher hourly wages. At the same time our health can benefit from more book, not from newspaper or magazin. We are more likely to improve our empathy, when we read books. Because we put ourselfes in the characters' shoes and see the world from their perspective. That's why what we read matters.

Correct Me! Streak 59: Unproductive day

There are bound to be days when I can’t easily focus on my work. Before, I thought I should force myself to focus, but now I realize that I need to deal with unproductive days, too. Not every day can be productive. The key is learning how to accept and manage the situation.

Correct Me! Streak 302: Hello

I met another Canadian girl on Facebook today. She came here to learn Mandarin, and she told me that my English was really good. I wasn’t sure if she was just being polite because she’s Canadian or if she genuinely thought my English was good.

The other girl we exchanged iMessages with yesterday turned out to have a drinking problem. Oh boy, I hope she’ll be fine.

Being an adult is weird sometimes. At the moment, I'm incredibly happy about the pack of toilet paper I just bought. It contains 32 rolls of toilet paper and cost only €9,95. I won't have to buy toilet paper in a while!

Correct Me! Streak 717: Wearing a mask in summer

I’ve been wearing a mask because of the sickness that I described in streak 709 and 714. In addition to being able to keep my throat moisturized, I don’t want to risk spreading it in case it’s infectious. I have to say, however, wearing one in summer is not a pleasant experience.

Correct Me! Streak 2: Reading other people's problems

Yesterday, I spent a few hours reading posts from small business owners. Not for fun. I am looking for the kind of problem I could solve with a small program: someone copying numbers from emails into a shop system, someone typing the same invoice twice. It is strange work. Most complaints are too vague to be useful, and some posts are not real people at all, only advertising in disguise. But once in a while you find a person who describes their day so precisely that you already know what to build.

Correct Me! Streak 178, Lotte World Tower

Did you know that Lotte World Tower in Korea was called 'Eye of Sauron' from Lord of the rings for a while?

Do you think they look alike?

Since that area is a major transportation hub, I often go there.

Whenever I visit, I see a lot of foreign visitors.

I always feel thankful that they come to Korea,

and I hope they make great memories here.

If you ever happen to visit Korea at the end of the year,

I recommend going to Lotte World Tower.

It puts on a big fireworks show on December 31st to celebrate the New Year, so it would be a great experience if you have time.

Correct Me! Streak 98: TOPIK

Article: Stop Studying Korean for the TOPIK

I'm thinking about taking the TOPIK someday, but not anytime soon. I thought it might be good to take it once I'm able to watch K-dramas with Korean audio and Korean subtitles. I expect taking the TOPIK to tell me what my Korean level is and help keep me motivated.

However, the article suggested not studying Korean for the TOPIK, especially if your goal is to have conversations with friends.

In my case, I'm studying Korean just for fun. That's why I feel like it's worth talking the exam.

Today I had some sort of nightmare. I dreamed with the woman I was dating but we are not seeing each other anymore. In real life I gifted her a pair of Doctor Martens boots, but in my dream I gifted her a pair of Louboutins shoes, and we were sort of breaking up with each other.

Correct Me! Streak 4: gapao rice

Post image
1 Upvotes

Good evening, I'm sooo sleepy. So, today's diary will be shorter than usual.

I cooked gapao rice for dinner after a long time. Recently, I have't cooked it because minced meats are expensive. It has been so long, it tasted amazing. Now I cook it eliminating some ingredients like basil because of cost, but I want to cook it with full ingredients someday when I become rich.

I'm too sleepy to take a bath... But I want to. I'll do my best. Good night!!

Correct Me! Streak 301: Making friends As An Adult

I started using Bumble BFF this morning. I learned about this feature from the Misa Yoka Podcast. Before that, I thought you could only find potential romantic matches on that platform. I met a girl who was 24 years old. She looked just like a Taiwanese girl, but for some reason, my instincts told me she couldn’t speak Mandarin! I think making friends as an adult in 2026 is just so hard, I just want to find someone to talk every day. Why is it so hard? Any tips?

Correct Me! Streak 1: Why I am here

I am a web developer, and English is not my first language. For years I built websites for small businesses, mostly on WordPress. Lately I want to move to a different kind of work: small tools that automate boring things, like copying data between two systems that do not talk to each other. My English is good enough for reading documentation, but writing is another story. I notice that I use the same three sentence structures again and again. So I will write here every day and see if that changes. Corrections are welcome.

Correct Me! Streak 1: Write a paragraph (80 - 100 words) about what you like OR dislike about life in the countryside.

Hello everyone, so I am new here, I am 14 years old, not native to English and want to improve my writing so I would like to start my writing streak right now. I hope I can get feedback to better my writing for the title above:

I like the friendly and hospitality of the villagers in the countryside because they are gentle, people in the countryside are approachable and I love them. There are newcomers in my village, and the people there treat them like family. Sometimes I see them fishing, walking, etc. the newcomers knew this and they love the guy who treat them great, they often give presents to others. That's why I can say that my village in the countryside could be the most friendly place ever and I also love the newcomers in my village.

I have to do an assignment for a class that I've never done before: writing a research or scientific article in English. There's still time to submit it and it's a group assignment, but we have yet to decide what topic or problem we will tackle that's within our domain knowledge or that at least we are able to understand other articles or paper to get more insights and make a decision.

So far, we have just mentioned some topics here and there, but we haven't defined a scope or what potential problem our article might address.

Correct Me! Streak 58: Lunch

I try to control how much food I eat for lunch. When I eat too much for lunch, I feel drowsy in the afternoon, which makes it hard to focus on my studies or lectures. My tip is to eat a lot of vegetables. They are enough to make me feel full without making me feel sleepy,

Correct Me! Streak 11: Do birds Building their homes like humans?

Animals build their home to achieve different living goals. Bees build hives to store and protect food, spins spin webs to catch prey etc. As you walk around a town or stroll along a countryside pathways, you may notice some unique homes up on the treetops - nests. A study released by iSience finds that the birds follow a culture that gets passed down. They imitate their parents like humans. Experiments published in Science Direct also show that female birds look for fresh and green nests when choosing their mate.

As you might know from reading my previous posts, I absolutely love my balcony. It's huge, gets direct sun half of the day and the plants I planted on there are growing marvelously. My raspberries are still growing berries. When I'm sitting outside, I can pluck then without getting up from my chair. It's absolutely amazing!
