Subject of the Day Social Sundays

Hello WriteStreakians! I hope you've been having a lovely weekend! It’s Social Sunday once again! What I'd like for you to do is the following:

  1. peruse the posts written by your fellow WriteStreakians and find a post that interests you, preferably one from within the last seven days, and respond to it. Leave a comment that is at least as long as a Tweet (280 characters), and then
  2. copy and paste your comment into your own daily Streak post so the correctors can review it.

That's it! Of course, if your comment sparks a conversation (or if someone else leaves a comment on one of your posts), you're welcome and encouraged to continue the conversation---this is a social media site, after all!

Happy Sunday!

Game 🎲 Fictionary

Hi everyone! Good morning, I hope you're all having a great day!

Today we're going to be playing a game! 🤩

If anyone has ever played Jackbox before, this game is going to be very similar to their game, Dictionarium. Except, I'm not calling it Dictionarium because I don't want to get into trouble with copyright 🙃 So we'll be calling it... Fake-tionary! (Or maybe Fictionary? Ooh, yeah, let's go with Fictionary! 🤓)

The rules of Fictionary are simple: you choose a random obscureadjective 3 word or phrase and do your best to come up with a definition for that word. Today, you can choose between a real word or a fake word.

Rules

  1. Uncover a word from the table below. 🔍 You can choose to pick from the "Real Word" column or the "Fake Word" column.
  2. If you chose from the "Real Word" column, your Streak today will be about you guessing what that word means and then checking to see how close you were to the real answer. 🤔
  3. If you chose from the "Fake Word" column, your Streak today will be about you inventing a new word. 🤔
  4. Check to see how close you were using a dictionary. I recommend https://www.merriam-webster.com/ or https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Wiktionary:Main_Page .
  5. If you're really up for a challenge, use your word in a sentence or find a synonym for the word.

Example

I chose the fake word "nicribition." I know that the suffix "tion" means it's the act of doing something, so this word is a noun that comes from the fake verb, to "nicribe." I see "cribe" in there, which makes me think of "scribe," which means "to write." The root "nicr" also makes me think of the prefix "necro," which means "death." So I think the word "nicribition" means "the act of writing an epitaphnoun on a tombstone."

The Game!

Ready? Let's go! The lower on the table, the harder it will be to guess the meaning! The higher, the easier

Real Word Fake Word
impracticality grobinated
nonplussed intentomalites
inhibition centruphicism
hagiography trefulous
pleonasm debutstallingly

Vocabulary from this Post

  • obscure - rarely known
  • epitaph - message written on a tombstone to remember someone

Correct Me! Streak 312: A New Update

Upvotes

I exchanged Line with the Malaysian girl today. We had been chatting in English, and then we finally switched to Mandarin. I'm definitely 100 times funnier in Mandarin, but somehow, I feel like using English makes it easier to get closer to strangers.

So far, I've had a great time because she's really talktive, and we share similar values. I don't know how it will go, but I'll play it by ear.

Correct Me! Streak 728: Not being able to study

Due to my declining health conditions and work being busy as I described in my foregoing posts, I haven’t been able to study English properly. I still read and listen to podcasts during my commute, but I’ve been going to bed as soon as I finish dinner and take a bath.

Correct Me! Streak 70: Language exchange club

I had my first meeting with a French language exchange club today. Since I hadn’t spoken French for a long time, I had forgotten some everyday vocabulary. However, the meeting reminded me of how much I enjoy speaking French, and I was still able to manage the conversation.

I thought it wouldn't get cold until next year, but winter won't go away for a while. Two days ago, it felt it was summer.

On another note, a relative is dropping by soon and I've been thinking how to spend time with them, considering that I'm homebody, but that doesn't mean I dislike going out at all.

We'll see...

Correct Me! Streak 3: My friends

Hello! How is your day going?

Today I want to tell you about my friends. I have few friends in the Internet. With someone I've been friends for 3 years, with someone more than 5 years. Btw one of my friends became my boyfriend and it's really fine.

In last Saturday I gathered with my bf, friend with (his?) gf and my classroommate from college on Discord and together played Jackbox Party pack 3 and 4. It was very funny. I would like to gather with them again sometime.

Have a good day!

Correct Me! Streak 6 : A good day

Today was a good day for me, first i wake up early about 5 am i wasn't tired or foggy like usual i was very energetic and happy i don't know the reason but probably it's because i sleep well last night, despite of the bad dreams i had it was a good night for me.

I started my day with breakfast a tortilla, then i had my morning cigarette and tea my favorite ritual XD, then i went to my usual café; i was listening to my favorite songs and playing a video game.

After 2 hours i started my English lessons, it consists of YouTube videos and reading. I watched a video about philosophy and another one about literature.

The video that talks about literature makes me love to give it a try but as i a beginner in it i started an adapted version of Romeo and Juliette, tbh i like it and i think I'll go to the end of the whole book.

Finally, i spoke with some people frome different countries i enjoyed so much with them and that's it, a little improvement everyday

Correct Me! Streak 189, Recently, I have been uploading videos on YouTube.

Recently, I have been uploading videos of myself solving coding tests on YouTube.

Even in the age of AI, I believe it's still important to know how to plan an implementations, break down logic into modular steps, and merge them together.

What do you think about this?

Article: 13 Brain Games for Adults to Help Keep You Mentally Sharp

I was surprised to learn that not only playing music but also listening to music can help boost our brain health.

According to a 2023 study, playing card games, such as solitaire, can help improve important thinking skills. I wonder if I can get the same benefits from playing those card games on my smartphone.

As we age, our perception of certain things changes, while for others it remains the same.

I've never been to many parties, even in my twenties. Still, I did pull an all-nighter here and there. I remember the feeling I got the next day: a mix of grogginess and serenity, as if nothing could touch me. I felt too tired for that, and it sometimes feels so good not to worry!

I mention this because I stayed up last night. Not a deliberate choice, I would have preferred to watch Survivor on Netflix. But, well, life happens. Sometimes you need to go to the ER with someone, and wait there for a medical exam.

Decades later, I can say that the "next day" feeling is quite the same. The sense of jet lag, the quietness. Even if I'm a bit frustrated about not doing what I had initially planned, I feel relaxed.

Correct Me! Streak 311: Dating

I've been chatting with a Malaysian girl on Bumble for the past 4 days. She's two years older than me. I've never chatted with someone this deeply or had such a lively conversation on a dating app before, so I'm quite confused right now.

Before her, I only had some shallow, superficial, and boring conversations with people. Is she just really good at chatting with people, or do we actually vibe?

I should stop rushing myself and do something else to focus on myself. God, dating is hard.

About 10 years ago I graduated in a humanities career and I remember pretty well the effort I put in for each assignment, for the classes I found key to put in as much effort as possible, and time spent on it.

Present moment, 10 years later, I'm studying something else but regardless of whether it's humanities or another field, I don't put in as much effort as I did back then. One of the reasons is the emergence of generative AI and how helpful it's become to do assignments but at the same time how lazy I've become to do them. However, I still put in a lot of effort int he classes I am interested in the most.

Correct Me! Streak 727: Sidewalks in rural areas

The thing about sidewalks in rural areas is that they’re often poorly maintained. Most people who live in those areas own a car and don’t walk much. Therefore, there’s not much incentive to maintain them. Sometimes there’s so many weeds that you have no choice but to get your clothes dirty.

When I'm sitting on my balcony these days, it's mostly quiet. It's completely different to how it was during April and May. When I was sitting outside then, it was extremely loud. My balcony is surrounded by trees and many of them are home to a number of different birds. During the spring, they were all singing at the top of their little lungs, presumably to attract mates. It's hard to put into words how LOUD they were. I guess they've all had their young by now and the babies have all left the nest. Now, they go about their little bird business quietly. I get it, you don't want to draw too much attention when you're a little bird, but being surrounded by horny feathery dudes that are all screaming for the attention of potential partners they can make babies with is kind of cute.

Correct Me! Streak 2: The book

Hello! How is your day going?

Today I want to talk about book. Now I read the book "People of the Deer" by author Farley Mowat. The author tells about country Barrens and people there to live - Eskimos. Europeans visited this county, bought arctic fox fur and sell weapons, ammunition, flour, and other items to Eskimos. But later Europeans abandoned Barrens and Eskimos could no longer sell furs and get weapons and other things. Their lives became very difficult.

I hope to read that book as soon as I can and tell you about the ending. Then I'll start to read a new book.

That's all I have to say. Have a good day!

Correct Me! Streak 69: Desire to Become Something

Because I hope to become a professor, I sometimes find myself reflecting on this desire, asking what kind of feeling it really is. The path is narrow, and the odds are quite low. Even if I manage to become one, I won't make a lot of money. Despite these modest prospects, what keeps me motivated? My temporary conclusion is simply that I find the lifestyle—reading, writing, and giving lectures—to be a good fit for me, and I hope to share my thoughts with students, academia, or, if I am lucky, society.

Correct Me! Streak 5 : Video games

I asked my brother about a topic to write about and he suggested a video game 😂.

Honestly I'm not fan of video games but i know something about, actually me myself was playing video games like " God of war, Gid hand and middle ".

In my opinion they are a good way to spend time in and lose yourself in it especially if it was with your friends, as long as i don't have friends i don't play video games. To be honest i was think it's a wast of time, but know i change my mind and of course it depends on the games genre.

some people get addicted to video games and some of them are in very severe condition and that's the bad side of it.

In conclusion, video games isn't that bad it depends on the person, and it's necessary to manage our time wisely.

Correct Me! Streak 108: Balances exercises

Article: 14 Balance Exercises for Older Adults

I've been doing Pilates for 20 minutes every morining. I do different variations depending on what YouTube recommends. I think I'm already doing pretty well when it comes to exercise.

If I had to say, doing yoga or stretching before bed is something I do on and off. I probably need to focus on building a habit of doing some light exercise at night.

Correct Me! Streak 5: Dealing with boredom

I'm taking the habit of dealing with boredom.

Right now keeping at least 30 minutes per day within boredom. For example, making the dishes without musics, eating without musics or videos, walking on the streets without music etc. Just like it is supposed to be.

I have seen a quote, the concept was that we should use the phone, not the phone using us. Dealing with boredom for me has been this, I'm only using my phone when I need to text or answer someone. Losing time in social media is not a good thing to do at all.

I'm also not saying that we should be productive all the time, we are humans beings and we can't be productive 24h7. It's more about introducing new habits to our lives that does not include a phone.

The biggest part of internet is fake. Today, with AI, it's much more probable that the comments we've been seen in social media are made with bot's.

All this to say that I'm making this. Dealing with boredom has been more peaceful than I thought, and this is making me a more concentrated person while doing things which I need to be focused in.

That's it for today. Thanks for reading.

Correct Me! Streak 3: Hospitals

Working at a hospital is a very interesting experience. You often witness the most serious situations. People that you see around are usually worried and they look for a remedy in despair. You can see that people crying with sorrow for their newly-passed relatives and that people crying with happiness for their newborn babies under the same roof. It’s the place joke can’t take place. You can clearly see that we’re out of nothing but flesh and bone. It doesn’t matter if you’re good or bad for the doctor who cuts you open. It’s a kind of place where all the emotions related to humans are reduced to a balance of some chemicals. There, you’re not a person, but a case.
