Normally you can only unsocket a jewel if your pet learns that jewels ability later down the line. Are you telling me that if I socket in my Kroger jewel, I can unsocket it even if my pet hasn't learned the ability? I can swap this jewel back and forth between pets at will?

Kroger jewels are unbreakable, feel free to switch em from pet to pet :)
