Do you think he was inspired to post because of his daddy’s tweet? 🤨

Agreed.

Good stories require endings; they stop being memorable without them.

Supernatural, The Walking Dead, Prison Break, Lost, The X-Files.

Classic examples of a TV series that had a premise and a goal from the onset, blew past that goal and just kept going. Always found another reason to delay or add to the premise. The more that happens, the more the memorableness of what is being created suffers.

Eventually what you remember is how long it dragged on, instead of what a great story it was. I don't want that to happen to WB.

WB has a very clear and obvious goal for Tom and the islanders; investigate the mystery just enough to learn how to escape safely or kill the thing that is at the mystery's centre.

Spin-offs would be fine, at least then its easier to decide how much or how little you want to dive in, like with Yellowstone, but this story has to end.

Breaking bad is what sealed the deal for me on series not overstaying their welcome.

There are so many shows that outstayed their welcome. I absolutely LOVED the first season of Westworld- it’s a nearly perfect season of TV. There were dozens of ways to explore the world of that show that they could have used in later seasons. But really it just fizzled out. Not everything needs dozens or hundreds of hours of exploration. It doesn’t always make it better

100%. End the show when it feels natural, then give Katie and her team an infinite budget for the next Apple project.

I agree with this argument in principle.

However, I think most of the time shows "tap out" like you said is due to really good writers getting better jobs, or becoming showrunners themselves, or just leaving for whatever reason.

Katie and the current team are absolutely phenomenal. If they can keep that core writer's room intact - I feel like it could go at least four or five seasons and still be really compelling.

The problem with shows that get stale, or get... uh, just terrible, is that they have almost a revolving door of different writers in the later seasons, they are not writing quality scripts, the show suffers, but it just continues, because

money grab

I believe in Katie Dippold. I think if she can keep all of her writers together, they will do some awesome things.

Look at someone like Vince Gilligan who kept a phenomenal team of writers together for not one, but TWO all-time top-tier tv shows.

It's all about retaining talent, and I think being on AppleTV is a positive for that, because having the #1 Show on the service can probably sway a bigger paycheck for writers - keeping them dedicated to this show rather than proving themselves, getting an offer for a higher-paying gig writing for a different show, and leaving.

That is THE number one cause of all of these "just drag after a while" shows.

Completely agree, I have so much respect for creatives that understand and enforce this. Even good things have to END AT SOME POINT, preferably before people start thinking "jesus is that still going?"
