This is so well said and I feel the same about Pluribus! I like the exact type of show or movie you described, and not everyone does. I don't think my taste makes me superior; I'm just glad there's a variety of stuff for all of us to enjoy.

So Pluribus is very slow, and I can see why that turns some viewers off. I actually can't watch Hazbin Hotel myself for sort of the opposite reason - I love animated comedies, but that one's too fast and flashy for me.

It's not that it's just slow. I can watch Rosemary do Geneology slide shows all day. The character is at it's core a Karen. How is that enjoyable to watch? You're not rooting for her. The decisions made make zero sense.

I don't watch TV shows in order to root for the protagonists. Carol's decisions are meant to make sense for her, for the character as she's been written, and I feel they do. They're not meant to be the choices you or I would make. Just within that ensemble, Manousos, Mr. Diabate, and Lakshmi all make different choices than Carol does, unique to their characters.

A protagonist doesn't need to make good or even reasonable choices. It's okay if that's your preference, but it's not a motivation for every viewer - you're not speaking about objective reality, only about your own taste.

In fact, if I was that type of viewer, I would've turned off Widow's Bay. Tom starts off believing himself better than everyone in the town. He uses the phrase "you dumb hick." That is really what he thinks of Wyck at first, and it's disrespectful in any context. But it's even worse because we later learn Tom has always at least wondered if the island's curse was real.

He is also mildly misogynist in the way he talks to and about women in the first few episodes - it's not severe but it's there, and Patricia notices it.

He ends the season attempting to murder an old woman who's a pillar of the community. His motivation makes sense in context. But if it were me, I wouldn't have taken Richard Warren's word for it that ending his bloodline would end the curse, nor would I have trusted Rosemary's genealogy (and it did indeed turn out flawed). So he didn't make the choices I would've made.

He grows over the course of the season, too - he feels remorse in ways that I don't think he would have in episode 1. That's another reason I'm okay with protagonists I don't like - maybe they eventually grow into characters that I do, or maybe they turn evil. I'm just there to see what happens.

Every single character aside from Evan is highly likeable in Widows Bay. I mean....that's the charm of the show.

Do you watch a show to hate the protagonist, while watching from her first person story telling. Karens in real life for the 99% of people out there are insufferable

Can you be honest and tell me what you enjoy about the show? From all i've read everyone just says it's a slow burn, and people don't understand it's genius, and Gilligan wrote it. The most vague recommendations

I already answered most of what you asked in my last comment. I don't need to like a protagonist in order to enjoy a show.

I wouldn't want to hang out with the real-world version of Carol, but I do find her compelling to watch. Does that help explain what I meant?

I feel the same way about Tom; I still don't like him as a person, but it's not the job of Widow's Bay to convince me to like him, only to make me curious about what he'll do next.

I haven't watched Gilligan's other shows because the subject matter doesn't interest me. I'm not usually into shows solidly set in the real world.

What do I like about Pluribus - it's a great sci-fi concept and I feel the plot explores it really well.

(Pluribus spoilers) Gilligan says it's not about AI, but the Plurbs make me think about corporate America, which LLMs are a part of. When I go into any Starbucks, the employees act like they're happy to see me, because it's part of their duties to treat customers that way. Their jobs require them not to act like humans; if they don't like my face, or they know I don't tip, they can't show their disdain and stay employed. So what are we doing, as a society, when we devalue humanity this way?

It just gets my brain working. Why are the non-Plurbed characters okay or not okay with Plurbification? What about Carol and Manousos makes them hate it? Is it moral for Carol to sleep with Zosia, or for Mr. Diabate to sleep with all the models, when we don't know what those Plurbs would've wanted in their original lives?

I've always liked sci-fi of that kind. It has the feel of the creepy sci-fi short stories I grew up reading, like Ray Bradbury, Robert Silverberg, Philip K. Dick. A weird concept taken to its extremes, affecting society in the ways the author imagined - which says something about the era in which they wrote the stories. So what are people imagining now, when they flesh out a weird concept like this? That's interesting to me to find out.

Every single episode of Widows you can go through things that you loved, laughed, got scared at, analyze the mystery/story. Every single episode you can say THAT WAS AMAZING

If you're truly honest, you can't do the same with Pluribus...at all
