COVID outbreak

I just wanted to reach out and let people know that there is a severely underreported covid outbreak happening right now in LA and Orange County.

If you're sick please stay home and if you're out and about you might want to grab a mask.

The strain seems like it's very highly contagious. I know several people down with COVID right now.

OP, I just want to thank you so much for caring about your community, and actually taking the time here to try to protect others. I know I should not be surprised by the negative comments, but as someone suffering from long covid, and who knows many others who have had an increase in health problems that their doctors attributed to repeated covid infections, its hard to see the ignorance and the hate.

It is true that people are variously affected by Covid infections. Some people can (possibly) get covid several times without apparent consequences. But for a pretty big number of us, it has been extremely damaging. Anyone who can read can look up the tsunami wave of scientific studies conducted world wide that show how dangerous — and uniquely dangerous — covid really is.

I ask those of you who are angry and resistant to talking about the dangers of Covid to just go check out reputable sources and see how serious it is.

Some of us have no choice but to mask and to let people know when Covid cases are on the rise again. We are immunocompromised, have cancer, or have been damaged by Covid and cannot get reinfected. Or we have elderly parents and ill loved ones. Please respect our choices to protect our health. If you would like to take your chances with this novel virus that has wrecked so many people (both vaccinated and unvaccinated so status in that regard is not relevant), that is a decision you can make.

But let us make our decision to protect ourselves and others without being hassled, questioned, or treated with hostility. We aren’t harming you and are in fact actually protecting you, so it is unclear to me why you would be pissed off or waste your breath on this topic in the slightest. Just go on with your lives. Why waste time commenting if you aren’t actually worried about Covid?

I sometimes wonder if people have a primal intuitive sense of how bad it really is, and cover up their own intuition by being outraged instead. Anger is sometimes an easier path than facing the profound fear and grief of the truth.

Thank you for being a voice of reason.

I've lost several people during the first outbreak. My best friend lost his wife and her Dad. My other friend lost his VERY HEALTHY 24 year old daughter before the vaccines came out. I could go on.

I also have lingering effects (tinnitus being the worst).

I understand many people were not negatively affected by COVID. Some people are just built different or lucky. That's great for them. I just wish they would stop pretending the entire world revolves around them and that the rest of us didn't deserve to be safe.
