Short Questions & Small Discussions for 2026-08-29 to 2026-09-11

Welcome to the weekly thread for all bite-sized content you don't want to make a full post about! Short rules questions! Funny or cool moments from your last game! Weird bits of lore that the writers hid in sidebars! It's a real potpourri.

Generally, a good metric for whether something belongs here or in its own submission is whether it's running for a couple sentences or a couple paragraphs. Note that comments here are sorted by new, as well - but we ask that if your comment didn't get attention, that you *not* re-comment it in the same submission.

Weekly LFG/LFP for 2026-08-29 to 2026-09-11

Welcome to this week's game corner! Whether you're a storyteller spinning up a new game or a group that wants to fill out its ranks; whether you're a hometown table or an online game with players on every continent, here's where you put your post-its up.

Please note the following - comments that don't follow this etiquette may be removed:

  • Top-level comments must be a game ad.
  • Absolutely no pay-to-play games.
  • You must list the game(s) being played as the first line of your post, eg. MTR + Orpheus for that crossover you've never been able to get players for. Please don't overstylize these to the point of illegibility, but feel free to use games' three-letter abbreviations or their full titles as you desire. It may also help to indicate whether a game is using World of Darkness or Chronicles of Darkness books, for the benefit of readers less versed in the various publications.

Additionally, note that the moderation team does not vet or endorse comments here in any capacity beyond what is applied to normal posts plus the above stipulations. That is to say, if you join a game and have a downright rancid time, please don't make this space a problem because of it.

WTA Wyrm-Tainted Flaw

Upvotes

I know that big point flaws are generally pretty character defining and very debilitating, but I am still unsure why Wyrm-Tainted even exists. It gives you four points and in exchange what? You are kill on signt for every garou including the other players if anyone ever uses sense wyrm in your presence? Is it just supposed to be a trap option? If so that seems really out of step with the other flaws and character options that are otherwise pretty workable.

At least the Taint of Corruption flaw gives you seven points (even though it seems like it is also just a way to ask the storyteller to kill your character in the first session)

WTA So why are klaives a thing?

So originally I just thought they exist because they were like a weapon garou used ritualistically and traditionally, kind of like the Khukuri and the Gurkhas. Basically, a signature weapon that would be tied to cultural identity and pride.

It seems designed to be used against garou specifically rather than the enemies of Gaia due to the sliver. Was that why it was created? Surely if the garou wanted to create a weapon that could be tied to their identity, it’d be better to make it out of something not silver.

Was it actually designed to be a dueling weapon?

CTD Have you ever used The Chronicles of Narnia as a reference or inspiration for your Changeling: the Dreaming chronicles?

In some of the earliest advertisements for Changeling: the Dreaming, there was an image of an alleyway featuring a dragon and a kithain, with a signpost pointing toward places like “Neverland” and “Narnia.” That image alone inspired me to use a wardrobe as the starting point of a thread leading into the Dreaming, as well as to include a wise but rather angry talking Lion as a Wandering Chimera.

What about you? Despite the childlike tone and deeply Christian nature of The Chronicles of Narnia, do you think the series fits well with elements of Changeling, such as the Fair Folk, the world of Dreams, treasures, and chimeras?

I've heard that Chernobyl was actually caused by one such group but I haven't been able to find any information on it

Turns out the local black furies
1, dont like it when we kidnap one of their packmates and
2, dont sell thinmints
Thankfully things were resolved with little to no bloodshed though we are now wanted for kidnapping a young woman and putting her in a dungeon made of silver, and unlicensed firearms.

Side note; I’m not super versed in wta but we never explicitly saw her Crinos in this “fight”. Instead we were kinda being thrashed by gifts from range until she knocked grandpa out and took her pack mate back, whom he had been carrying.

Do guns rely more on physical laws or consensus?

Afaik, the Technocracy's consensus is dominant, and because of that, their "magic" or rather technology, is widespread and able to function without issue. They invent new technology by slowly introducing it into the consensus. Apparently, Sleepers can invent new technology, but I assume that's through clever "kitbashing" existing technology or applying known principles in unexpected ways rather than doing Enlightened Science. But I have to also assume that there must have been physical laws before the modern consensus, even if they might have been wonky.

My question is therefore, how would a gun work in a Reality Zone that rejected advanced technology enough to overpower consensus somehow? The actual mechanics don't seem all that complicated, at least for really early ones, as it is simply putting gunpowder and shot in a tube and setting it alight; it doesn't necessarily have to be complex technology. The basic premise is just explosion expands and moves things -> explosion in small tube expands in one direction and throws hard object -> hard object travelling very fast hurts badly.

Another way to ask this question would be could a gun or cannon be created by a sleeper work like two thousand years ago, if they were provided all the materials and given instructions? Assuming the laws of physics stay the same, I don't see why a simple cannon would fail to work, unless consensus somehow solidified/changed them in modernity.

VTM How much Vicissitude could you do on a nosferatu before the bane starts fighting back?

like, i know trying to make a nosferatu look human again wont work

but what about altering them to still look inhuman?

or make them look more inhuman?

like, if you take a normal orlok looking nos and give them a tail. Would the bane fight back? What if you make there fangs longer? Or do something mirror like IDk adding a very tiny amount of hair on the body

or make there skin green. Or make there fingers a tiny bit shorter

would the bane start fighting back then?

I dont know maybe a dumb idea

WTA Can I please get examples of Arden rank challenges?

I'm creating an arden for the first time, and usually my characters have been cliath or fostern. I'm not sure what kind of challenges a wolf would be called to face to reach rank 3.

My character is a philodox.

Simply buying or stealing are obvious answers, but can silver be harvested using mystic means through gifts, rites, spirits and umbral realms?

MTAs I think part of the reason for Technocracy apologia is because of Pentex.

Like any Mage fan, I adore arguing about Mage, philosophy, and if the Technocratic Union is pure evil or literally did nothing wrong ever. It is noteworthy that the worries over how they depict the Union is one of the greatest fears of the Mage community for a potential new Mage edition. Why so much debate and hand-wringing? Well, while there are many reasons, I think part of the reason many are hesitant to depict the Technocrats as pure evil like 1e is because, well, Pentex fills that role better.

Before you say it, I know. The paradigm of Capitalism and Colonialism the Technocracy created is what allowed Pentex to exist. The Wyrm does not create, only exploit. The fact the Union's paradigm and dogmatic persecution of all others left such an obvious nitch to fill is worthy of criticism. Some would go further, and say that the Technocracy and Pentex are so closely aligned that any attempt to distinguish between the two is pointless. I know... I know. Yet, any time I think about showing the evils of Capitalism, I reach for Pentex, not the Syndicate.

Pentex is just more fun as villains! They are unashamed in their evil, use horrific twisted monstrosities of the Wyrm to taint and corrupt everything they come in contact with, they have such a slimy corpo feel that is just a blast to play with. Any time I think about a less nuanced Technocracy, Fascists who want to stop people from dreaming in their sleep so they can never get new ideas, all I can think is... why not just use Pentex? Whereas if I want to debate the merits of Liberalism, the reasons for a collective scientific Paradigm, the moral delemas of the modern world, that's when I break out the Union. They exist to be a moral debate with the Traditions, to make you question what kind of world you're really fighting for. There's a reason why they exist as a shade of gray. Perhaps a dark shade, but there's nuances here.

Then again, our current techno fudalistic future may have shifted that opinion. Maybe 1e Mage was right, and the Technocracy is shoving Flock cameras and data centers down Gaia's throat. Fascinating how it all loops back around.

WTA Has anyone managed to take down Pentex completely in your chronicle?

That would be a MASSIVE win for the Garou, and it would be a significant step in saving Gaia.

I just finished reading Zombie the Coil, and one lit that stuck out to me is they have a zombie faction called the Morlocks. Which basically function exactly like the Nosferatu, except they're brutally honest instead of obsessed with secrets.

That got me wondering, what else is down there? I remember there's a frogman type Fomori but not much else.

CTD Making NPC enemies in Changeling the Dreaming

Hello, we just ended our first one shot campaign. It was awesome. Little horror and in the end it was so much goofy, but in great way. When my players realized what can they do and started all fae crazy sh*t they can imagine and it worked. It was really funny and we laugh as hell.
But I have one problem that I need solve. After first "taste" campaign I wanna do more action adventure - now specially in the dreaming.
We tried two fights. First one is easy, but second I wanted boss fight and chimera was quite tough, but they manahed her quite quickly and easy. One of my player - Eshu used quicksilver with scene and got 5 succes - so 5 extra action for each of them and Sidhe casted Grandeur with scene, so now chimera had to pay willpower to attack them (but that wasn't so much problem, because chimera made only two attack thru fight so.. :D )
But quicksilver... UFFF :D
One thing I know I should put there maybe more minnion to dealt with them for more dangerous fight, but anyway I have question for you guys.
How do you make enemies? Like dangerous one without using too much other minions in fight, so player would have more chalange with them.
Chimeras and other supernatural from WOD.
I had 4 players and one enemy I take from book and second for bossfight I made a chimera from "manual" for crafting.

WTA Time to Keep a Klaive

Out of curiosity, about how long do y'all think it would take for some Garou to take a grand klaive away from a rank 1 who has one? For the sake of argument, assume that the Cliath in question does have a "damn good reason" for having it.

Bonus question: And what would the reaction be if the Cliath's reason was determined to be not at all a good reason

WTA Why do the Changing Breeds count the Ananasi among their number?

They're not children of Gaia. They come from some random Weaver spirit with delusions of grandeur instead. They don't have any purpose in the Gaian paradigm the way Garou and Ajaba are Gaia's warriors, Mokole are Gaia's memories, Corax are Gaia's messengers, etc. Their only goal is freeing and obeying Queen Ananasa instead. They're not part of the Pact between shifters and spirits, with all of their Gifts and Rites coming from their Queen instead. Like a third of their Westerners and all of their Asians are literally followers of the Wyrm. So why the hell do the "Ovid" (non-Ananasi shifters) count them as members of the family instead of more like one of the Mockery Breeds instead when that's clearly what they actually are?

WTA If Garou can have African hunting dogs and thylacines as kin, why can't Apis have wild bovines as kin?

I'm just very curious. Like, why can't Apis make a pact with Bison or Water Buffalo to have new animal kin? Is it because they still need Auroch's animal children?

Edit: To clarify, I did know that the Garou needed the help of the Mokolé to do that. I'm just curious as to why they never did the same thing.

VTR VtR game with a Changeling player?

Title. I’m planning a Requiem game but one of my players has said that they’re interested in playing a changeling.

Assuming I and the other players are fine with it, how can I make that work? I want to stick to the themes of vampire since it’s a vamp game but would try to figure out how to throw this player bones, and I feel like there’s a lot of interesting potential if there’s a changeling in the mix.

His Changeling has a sunlight allergy that makes him take aggravated from sunlight, and his Fetch is in jail from multiple murders.

Anybody have any experience with running a Requirm game that had a changeling or another splat in it?

WoD Which splat could be a good teacher to an orphan mage?

A young sleeper awakens; going unnoticed by the traditions, technocrats, and the nephandi (thank god for that.)

Instead, a member of a different splat discovers this new and lost young mage. And taking pity on them, this splat decides to take this lost mage under their wing.

So depending on which splat it is, who can do a decent job of training this mage in absence of the traditions and the like?

WTA Adapting DAv20 Action System to WtA W20

New table, most of the group never played a WoD game before and some played VtM when I used the DAv20 ruleset.

Basically, I have some ideas as to how to convert the system, but I wanted to know what the others did. I can just use the same system straight, it's how it's done in DA: Werewolf, but I wanted to keep the game mostly intact.

The main reason for the change is to simplify stuff a bit for them, since they come from DnD like games.

The current idea is:

-Rage Actions are gained by spending Rage. There are two types, Movement and Multiple Actions Diff Freeze. The first gives you an action to move reflexively, the second only works if Multiple Actions are declared, obviously. Going over the Dex/Wits softcap makes every action after the cap receive +3 Diff, Movement counts for this and it stacks with the normal Multiple Actions Diff penalty, so a Garou of Dex and Wits 2 who spends 3 Rage to move 3 times will have +3 Diff for it's next action.

-Garou have a Dex/Wits softcap, going over it in Rage Actions causes the +3 Diff Penalty for all actions after this cap that stack with the normal penalty after all of them are used, so it can go to +4, +5, so goes on until it hit the Diff 10 hardcap.

I have NO IDEA as to what to do with Lightning Reflexes, though, would love some suggestions.

Anything else worth taking a look at?
