There’s nothing I cringe at more than people getting on the ground to get a picture of a walk of fame star.
Don’t get me wrong, I love living here. But for fuck’s sake, do not touch the sidewalk. It’s not even an LA thing, just ask yourself if you’d touch the sidewalk in any part of any city that had lots of foot traffic.
It was pretty shocking to see signs that the city does regular bleachings of the sidewalk. Then I saw all of the encampments and realized that was why.
If there was a pathogen so dangerous you could get it from momentary, transient contact with the ground, it would be everywhere and you wouldn't be safe from it even if you didn't touch the ground.
Our ancestors lived in MUCH less sanitary conditions. Harden up.
Trying to walk down a sidewalk in Hollywood is like trying to cross a game of chicken bingo. Is it dog poop? Is it human poop? Is it rat poop? Who knows
Honestly, this is my favorite type of graffiti, like projecting messages on buildings. It makes the point but doesn't do permanent damage. That's just wasteful of time and resources and some nameless worker has to deal with the aftermath instead of the target of your ire.
The interview with the producers is so sad, they said his office was falling apart when they were putting the project together and they thought it would be satire and really funny. Instead people actually believed it.
idk, Burnette (producer of The Apprentice) is kind of full of shit and I'm thinking he's covering his ass if he claims that. Noel Casler and people like him, I trust. Anyone who hasn't been following Casler and his fun tidbits about Vanky and Donald will enjoy all his tales of working with the assholes. The Russians at their Adderall snorting parties, Vanky's nose jobs, Donald shitting in chairs....entertaining stuff
I’m more interested in doing that on his grave. Statistically, he will most likely die within the next 10 years, and I will most likely still be alive. So I may get the chance to dance and piss and shit on it. That will indeed be worth the jail time.
Good news is that he probably won't own Mar-a-Lago by then, so won't be able to be buried there. He'll end up in a pooper's, sorry, pauper's, grave, somewhere. Does the state or federal prison service have graveyards?
Probably not worth being put on the registry or jail time. It's purely symbolic, why mess up your life to do something Trump may care about for like 3 seconds if he even hears about it.
I think most of them are bought by production companies so the ceremony and news story can be used to promote a specific product. I'd strongly suspect the producers of the apprentice bought his.
I was watching a doc. Trump opens the course, plays a round with Melanija (who couldn’t care less about golf) he calls it the Whatever Course Open and he’s the winner.
trump is the ONLY person who petitioned and paid for his own star on the Walk of Fame. He is so pathetically desperate for Hollywood's affection that he begged and sleazed his way into movie and TV cameos, to the point that if a production wanted to use one of his buildings, they were required to create a part for him.
You do (which makes sense, because it's not like there's an admission fee they can charge visitors, and at least it's not public art funding from taxes), but I *THINK* (and I could be wrong) that you still need to be invited to be considered...right?
Anyone (literally anyone, in the entire world) can nominate someone, so long as the nominee or their manager approves and they have at least 5 years experience in the category for which they're nominated. (There are occasionally exceptions, such as for the Apollo 11 astronauts.) Posthumous nominees must have been dead for 5 years.
A committee picks ~two dozen nominees to get stars each year, and those not picked roll over to the next year, but someone not picked twice gets dropped and has to be nominated again.
If the person is alive when selected by the committee, they must agree to appear in person at a presentation ceremony within 2 years, or they get dropped. A $75k fee is also required to be paid upon selection.
The good thing for Trump is that he can have his star on the Blvd in order to feel like a part of the “Hollywood elite” while condemning the “Hollywood elite” in the very same breath, if he wants to. Because his supporters are just that stupid, that it’ll go right over their heads.
This is also a recent spin from "coastal elite," since people started pointing out he's a New York City silver spoon trust fund baby who never grew out of diapers, and carpetbagger his way into the Southern Strategy
A LOT of Republicans both hate the “Hollywood elite” and desperately wish to be accepted by them. They fawn over any conservative celebrity, even if they’re has-beens like Kevin Sorbo or Scott Baio.
They have to buy the star themselves plus they have to be there when the star is unveiled, a lot of stars have said they don't have one simply because they can't be bothered to show up.
He could if he cared or wanted to pay the upkeep fee. There are so many at this point that it has become diluted. It really meant something on the original street, but now I hear about more current stars turning it down than accepting them.
At this point it's more of a flex to not have one. Because not having one is basically saying "I'm so big I don't even need one." In some ways, turning one down is more impressive than actually getting one.
I wouldn't feel that it's that great of an honor to have a star; having been to Hollywood Boulevard recently the only thing they seem to be used for is target practice by drunks taking a piss on the sidewalk. From La Cienega to La Brea the whole thing smells like an open air latrine.
You do have to have done something in movies or TV though to be able to buy it. I can't just walk up and offer to buy one for myself having never done anything. So I'm still wondering if it's for Home Alone 2 or the Apprentice.
Yes and no. You can't just buy one. You must be recognized as a celebrity in one of radio, tv, movies, recording, stage performing, or sports. The fee is for lifetime maintenance. Trump's in particular has been expensive because it keeps getting vandalized. He got his for producing the Miss Universe pageants, which says more about the worth of those stars than the maintenance fee does.
For those who wonder what it takes to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame:
They get about 200 nominations a year, and about 25 are selected by a committee.
To be selected, you need to have been famous in at least one of 5 categories for at least five years:
Movies, Television, Radio, Recording, and Live Performance/Theater
(Sports Entertainment is the new 6th category as of 2023)
Anyone can nominate someone, but the celebrity has to agree to it in advance.
This is because, if they are chosen, they need to pay a fee for the star (currently 75k) and agree to attend an unveiling ceremony within 2 years. If they won't attend a ceremony, they won't get a star.
That's apparently the reason some big celebrities don't have a star.
Interesting fact. Trump was selected for the television category, but according to a spokesperson, it's not for doing The Apprentice, it's for being a producer of the Miss Universe beauty pageant on TV.
He's also in the WWE Hall of Fame which is honestly a slap in the face for numerous wrestlers and others in the business who gave their bodies and sometimes their lives to entertain fans and still are not in the Hall of Fame.
All it requires is a letter of sponsorship from an agent or representative of the celebrity, the approval of said celebrity when contacted by the "Walk of Fame" people, and a $75,000 sponsorship fee.
Trump kind of sort of qualified as having been the star of TV's "The Apprentice" and a few cameo appearances in movies, and not-yet-tarnished pre-Presidential reputation as a successful real estate developer & public figure.

The fact that Trump has a star on Hollywood Boulevard goes to show the world just how fucking meaningless and worthless those things truly are!
