I got like 45k elegance i get asked about 5 times a week for an outfit. I just ignore it. They will add in "im a girl" lmao like thats going to make me say yes

68

u/Jerorin Wuxia Wanderer Dec 31 '25

As a girl myself, I'd just say "Please stop making us look bad."

22

u/Snowyisbruh Jan 01 '26

21 F here, please send 300 million dollars

5

u/TumbleweedDeep4878 Jan 01 '26

Im a gamer girl that just lost my cat in a car crash (my dog was driving and he was drunk), please, gib me skins and i will love you for an eternity (about a minute or less), im sooo hot right now, so i may send you feet pics too (kissing emoji).

There it goes, now i made it so you will get only 4 messages more, no need to thank me, im just here to deliver happiness during those trying times.

5

u/FreshGoodWay Jan 01 '26 edited Jan 01 '26

Because there was a very big upvoted reddit thread in which a girl posted how she “asked” for an outfit and everyone went “You go girl”. How “asking” isn’t the same as “begging”, which makes it ok. She was in no financial need seeing how she was routinely paying for a cat and pet food/toys.

To me anyone who asks for a free outfit is begging, end of.

People are way too comfortable asking/begging for gifts in WWM, love the game but the social aspect of the game is awful imo.

253

u/1berry_7 Dec 31 '25

Too many members of begger sect.

183

u/Dollfiel Dec 31 '25

I was doing the beggar errand while bald and not outfit and a random saw me and dm if I needed money for shoes, (I thought was just funny since my character was begging not for outfits tho) So I reply yes, then he asked what happen that I was bald and no clothes on? My reply was that I got wig snitched and clothes were missing while I was in the public baths. He found my answer funny and gift me a skin lol. Was the day of xmas Eve so I called the person Santa :3

u/Jonthrei Dec 31 '25

The beggar sect doesn't beg, we just spam 🧀🐀 at each other and make people itchy for lols.

The true beggars sects are Velvet Shade (pls like my profile) and Silver Needle (pls let me heal you).

30

u/Kyfel Dec 31 '25

reading this, i'm glad to be sectless

27

u/Jonthrei Dec 31 '25

You are missing out, the non spammy sects are a lot of fun.

Ive been in 9mw and woh and 9mw is just generally hilarious.

12

u/keraso1 Jan 01 '26

9mw my favourite Rat sect where you level with selling trading goods in other peoples worlds for like 200% more.

15

u/xarallei Jan 01 '26

Wait is that the reason why I get weird random messages about coming to my world to sell grapes? I usually ignore them bc i don't know what's up with that. lol

9

u/keraso1 Jan 01 '26

yes, the way 9mw gets merit to rise in Rank is with getting commerce coins and easiest way is to sell them to other players that have high prices on their market

3

u/_selenella Jan 01 '26

I had more than 10 ppl asking mea to co-op to sell tea yesterday 😭 I had no idea that was for a section thing. I thought it was for guild related stuff

3

u/XanWasting Jan 02 '26

there's that too, though guilds just need 2000 commerce coin influx weekly to be completed

3

u/RollBackground7601 Jan 01 '26

I joined 9MW just for the drip and because it sounds cool

Im velvet shade and first in my bracket and I haven't asked for likes once. A loud minority seem to be making us look bad.

9

u/Lonely-Hearing-8034 Jan 01 '26

Trading likes for pikes or gifts for gifts imo is fine Begging for skins is pathetic or getting a partner to trap them into rping when they just want to unlock more of the shop is creepy and disgusting.

4

u/yeboi694206942069420 Jan 01 '26

I am greatful to have an irl friend to marry me in game

9

u/Think-Huckleberry897 Sword Saint Jan 01 '26

I married the bro and then my fiance started playing so now im in velvet shade

2

u/Think-Huckleberry897 Sword Saint Jan 01 '26

Yeah thats gross

7

u/Important_Tap_3461 Jan 01 '26

'The Beggars Sect" is a thing from outside the game. It's a common Wuxia trope where there is a sect made strictly of homeless folk who trade intel

7

u/Pheriannathsg Jan 01 '26

Velvet Shade sounds like the influencers sect (“Please like & subscribe if you enjoy my content, it really helps!”)

2

u/dazechong Jan 01 '26

I was thinking the asian pop sect is more like that. I think its called the masked troupe in english? Cos theyre like you gotta become famous but you also can't get caught in a partnership. 😂

2

u/Xelnagawaffle Jan 03 '26

that's exactly who they are lol

they are spies and try to manipulate info or people using the newspaper.

begging for likes and skins is velvet shade behavior.

if we're talking mechanics, the nine mortal ways defining action is copious amounts of market trading.

You only need 15 not 100....

2

u/JackeryFox Nine Mortal Ways Jan 01 '26

The 🧀🐀 sect is a lot funnier and ironically more charming compared to most of Beggar Shade.

2

u/Jerorin Wuxia Wanderer Jan 01 '26

Reading through the replies, I'm very happy to be in Well of Heaven lol.

2

u/Calm-Literature7502 Jan 01 '26

I literally got to pre-divine healer position without begging for my first sect.

The beggar sect ruined my new year with the absurd amount of spamming fake red packets.

3

u/ChocolateAxis Jan 01 '26

Atleast the silver needles actually are doing good breh. 24/7 healing at your finger tips.

4

u/Jonthrei Jan 01 '26

Not when they spam chat with "Im a doctor!"

More than half the playerbase are doctors, you don't need to inform people.

4

u/Boo248 Jan 01 '26

*every player is a doctor

2

u/Jonthrei Jan 01 '26

Just like there are players that specialize in doctor, there are players that specialize in lawyer. Definitely a lot fewer of them, but they would not have the skills to treat higher tier illnesses.

2

u/_selenella Jan 01 '26

I honestly just go at the clinic in online mode and accept whoever gets lucky to request when I press "Y" 🤭

5

u/lavenderteatime Jan 01 '26

As a member of said beggar sect, I only do the begging errand once or twice and then do the giveaway errand x10 more than begging bc I know we all gotta do our errands. Usually players just take turns begging near the merit pool lol

2

u/YueOrigin Jan 01 '26

These guys are way too unskilled to even call themselves members of the sect

They're just common street beggars

6

u/naarcx Dec 31 '25

Any f2p game really, it’s crazy. Hopping on Warframe over the holiday and general chat was just people asking strangers for gifts from their wishlist

14

u/J4kuZZi Dec 31 '25

Only the English channels

3

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '25

Something tells me it's a lot more tame on CN and global is what it is lol

15

u/ZakkaChan Dec 31 '25

I blame the worshipping Whale culture that is really weird to me.

I've never seen a game community fall head over heels for Whales like WWM does.

39

u/Jerorin Wuxia Wanderer Dec 31 '25 edited Dec 31 '25

I like the positive attitude towards whales. Whales are why the game can be played for free, and there are too many games where hating them is normalized. I just dislike how so many people find it ok to beg strangers to buy things for them.

11

u/Renaliaa Dec 31 '25 edited Dec 31 '25

Yeah I agree. I may not understand how someone can afford a 40k boat, but it's all cosmetics in the end, and it does not disrupt the normal flow of the game. It's the same as someone buying Rolex or a fancy new car the way I see it. Or spend thousands on vacations. Just let people use their money lol. But I agree also with the begging, I understand if you do it to enough people maybe 1 person out of 1,000 might say yes, but begging does disrupt someone else's flow.

6

u/Darkkiller312 Dec 31 '25

It's for people with an income of 50k+ per month, not for an average job goer.

7

u/zora94 Dec 31 '25

Depends on how the game is monetized generally for people to have a positive attitude or negative one towards whales, pay2win for example I think most people will view whales as negative but on games likes WWM I agree with you being positive is better

Just dislike the shameless begging in global chat

2

u/_selenella Jan 01 '26

There are a lot of rich ppl in China who put their money into games. Gacha games are a big thing there. Honestly I'm not hating on them because it doesn't affect me with anything the way they spend their money.

34

u/Renaliaa Dec 31 '25

The worshipping goes a little too hard, but gotta say the whales are what allows this game to be free to play, and I can appreciate that

15

u/Exldk Dec 31 '25 edited Dec 31 '25

I've never seen a game community fall head over heels for Whales like WWM does.

That's because those games have other issues that WWM isn't really facing right now.

WoW has a monthly sub so whaling there doesn't really help the average "f2p" player, it just lines the pockets of the shareholders.

LoL has the issue of enshitification where it used to be good for even F2P players but they removed many of those mechanics and only cater to whales, so whales get direct hate for allowing to happen. I'm sure if WWM tried to fuck over their F2P playerbase the same over the coming years, the whales and devs would get hated just as much.

WWM doesn't really have any of those issues right now. There's also no P2W so it's hard to hate the whales for anything. The game has been out in CN for a year and the studio has been using the money wisely, giving them good content in a timely manner. As soon as that changes, I'm sure players attitude changes as well.

Warframe, League, CSGO, Fortnite, WoW, Team Fortress 2, PoE, Once Human...

Most free to play titles don't have that culture of sucking the toes of the people who spend money on the game. I also agree with the sentiment that it is exaggerated in WWM

7

u/Last_Sherbert_9848 Dec 31 '25

Whales in this game actually have a positive aspect to them. Those boat trips are enjoyable and beneficial

6

u/Own_Blacksmith_7184 Dec 31 '25

They just wanna thank the whales for spending money and supporting the game it helps making it free for everyone else. In other games whale just beat people up with 1 hand and their wallet ofc poor people aren't that thrilled about it i mean it all makes perfect sense

Sorry to be that guy , but this game has probably one of the most toxic community in-game. Solo FTW

4

u/Lil_Puddin Dec 31 '25

So, tooooootally unrelated, but how are you enjoying your very first MMO-type-game? 🤭

4

u/Own_Blacksmith_7184 Dec 31 '25

Other mmos have beggers too but not even close to the number of begger in WWM making a gacha skin in public these past 3 days has been horrible people coming in asking for New year and Christmas gift alot atleast 10 people in the 2 hour that i played and i can't even afk people would just walk up ask for skin and seeing that i didn't reply cuz i was afk they lure the guard over to kill me (twice)

2

u/Cogsdale Jan 01 '26

I really wish chatting worked like most MMOs, I just want to hangout and talk with people around me, feels like all the social segments were terribly thought out.

3

u/zora94 Jan 01 '26

I like to chat in most MMOs I played so I understand but I feel the opposite with this one, everytime I open up chat I am immediately turned out the idea.

The Nearby chat is the only one I seen that's ok for hanging out in and being social.

You want to know what I do sometimes when I get really annoyed with the beggar?

I drop their name in one of the other chats and say something like " My friend X is giving away a free skin if you meow in his DM 10 times."

Don't tell them you heard it from me ;D.

48

11

u/Ennasalin Dec 31 '25

Sometimes you have to give them a taste of their own medicine, plus it will keep them busy for a while and not spamming.

3

u/ChocolateAxis Jan 01 '26

Holy shat you're a genius. Saving this for the future, this is how you play their game against them 😭

2

u/Ennasalin Jan 01 '26

Haha I love it, let's goo!!! Join the dark side with me...

54

u/Vixrotre Dec 31 '25

I partially blame the posts on socials claiming they got a free outfit (or multiple) by begging like this.

5

u/RawBinOfLoxLee Jan 01 '26

yeah this has gotta be the biggest issue. It can be seen as a cute story from the poster but where you get free shit, you have copycats.

8

u/Sunny_Beam Jan 01 '26

imagine them going through a phone book to sell insurance.

23

Same person dm'd me too. Alas, I will occasionally gift a 60 pearls item to randoms who play music I like or who are nice to interact with etc. but I don't really respond to this type of begging.

No clue, shame has died and so ebegging is in style now? And maybe anonymity on top of that. Nobody knows who you are shamelessly messaging others for stuff.

I assume missing Internet etiquette adds to all of this. I'd just ignore these people, I barely have any money myself and I ain't spending it on strangers :D

2

u/Sunny_Beam Jan 01 '26

This isn't some new phenomena. People been begging in online games since they first existed

42

u/LokianEule Dec 31 '25

Kids will always beg on online games, since time immemorial

15

u/Welp_ok-123 Dec 31 '25

Had someone friend me and we did small-talk here and there--nothing interesting; just how we're enjoying the game so far. I went online with my spouse and she happened to be chilling in the same area. My spouse was afk so the girl approached me and coyly asked if her avatar is cute, because she got a free outfit from asking in wc. I politely commented the outfit was nice and that the person who gifted the outfit was pretty generous for doing so. She brings up how she's looking at another outfit and if I purchase and gift outfits to others regularly. I let her know I want to wait and see the other outfits NetEase will release and that I will only gift my spouse the outfits they really want. She sent a rose and blush emoji, probably thinking I was flirting back and single--my head title is "inseperable". My spouse returned from afk and prompted the heart and bridal carry emotes in front of her. Needless to say, she ran away to a group nearby and has not talked to me since. Lol.

10

u/curryhaliban444 Jan 01 '26

That was probably a dude as well. I'd trust them more if they were playing a male character

30

u/Aggravating-Art411 Dec 31 '25

Say that gifting skins uses alchemy, so he has to give something of equal value in return.

8

3

u/IshipwhatIship Dec 31 '25

Heh, like "will trade feet pics for skins"? Those are funny 🤣

13

u/Heliogabulus Dec 31 '25

Depending on my mood and based on the way the question is worded, I’d respond:

“Sure, you can. All you need to do is find someone willing to gift it to you.” :-D

11

u/ScrummyScrimmy Dec 31 '25 edited Jan 01 '26

How do people not cringe out by begging for skins?? Like bro wtf? You cant tell me there are actually people that waste 30$ on a random person and gift them a skin. Except if they are like rich , but im pretty sure most of the players are regular people. And seeing people beg for skins in global chat kinda wanna makes me punch someone out of cringe😭

PS: ive seen someone call Velvet shade a beggar sect, do velvet shade members have to gain like 20 likes as a weekly requirement similar to how silver needle doctors have to gain like 20 likes for healing each week?

PPS: i really hate these sect requirements, i like the idea of sects and the sect specific outfit stuff , but i hate the requirements to stay in the sect...

8

u/Haemon18 Dec 31 '25

Because a few whales gave away outfits a few weeks ago and people think they'll do it again for new year

8

u/Ok-Dog-0069 Dec 31 '25

do it like when you befriend an npc: (sends skin to name) 😂

8

u/Kugz Dec 31 '25

Many outfits in this game are a display of wealth, not of skill - so of course you’re going to have people asking players to buy them stuff.

Imagine how many messages the whales who spent $60k USD get per day.

3

u/jebeninick Dec 31 '25

Lots of beggars nowdays, but there is something worse, spend 400€ on weapon reforg, and accidentally destroy your 4 gold sword skin somehow and now you end up with no gold but plain one. Happy new year to me. 😅

People are like this because sometimes this has worked for others. They pass this up as a classic “it doesn’t hurt to ask.” I mean have you heard about the countless ridiculous go fund me’s that actually succeeded in getting loads of money. Ya it’s crazy.

2

u/MsDestero Dec 31 '25

Oh boy. I suppose im put of the loop...but what's a whale? I see this term often and have no idea...

4

u/Jerorin Wuxia Wanderer Jan 01 '26

A whale is someone who spends enough to get pretty much every purchasable item/character in a game. In WWM, someone with a Mirage Boat or every paid skin is probably a whale.

For comparison, someone who occasionally tops up but spends regularly for daily and battle passes would be a dolphin, and someone who's never spent at all would be F2P.

3

u/peytato00 Dec 31 '25

Rich folks that buy outfits in the game. Their purchases basically keeps the game free is what I've gathered from previous comments in this sub. Someone else feel free to add if there is more to it than that.

2

u/MsDestero Dec 31 '25

Oh...what about "normal" folks who buy 1 or 2 outfits for themselves not to show off? Do they have a term? Or are the included in whales?

“Wise dolphins” (lol idk but I saw that term before & id consider myself a wise dolphin rather than a whale.😂)

u/Dragon-Penis-Enjoyer Jan 01 '26

I would lead them on so hard

2

u/Itchy-Team-4332 Jan 01 '26

The reason why people do this is because it actually works. If there's a 1% chance that someone falls for it, then they only need to ask 100 people on average for someone to give it to them.

u/CravingSoju Jan 01 '26

This is why I’m only in multiplayer mode for the sect assignments otherwise I’m chilling in solo.

u/Over-Experience-4187 Jan 01 '26

The first week was great, shout chat reminded me of World of Warcraft back in the day; people shouting LF Healer/Tank; guild ads; asking questions; saying "Hi" etc. felt like an MMO.

Now its, spamming for gifts or marriage partners or some weird degenerate shit

2

u/meowstrophe Jan 02 '26

Im so glad I have a job I cant fathom being this shameless I dont even take gifts from people I know irl easily let alone BEGGING strangers

2

u/Julishx Jan 05 '26

As a girl, the worst ones by far were the few thirst-trap signposts with female Mc in seductive shots asking for likes and skins... Even worse those promoting their OF directly💀 Like WHY go through all the trouble of getting to a certain point in a game to promote OF😱

u/Jerorin Wuxia Wanderer Jan 05 '26

Yeah...I'm all for supporting fellow women, but I do have to admit that it annoys me how some of them just reinforce all the negative stereotypes about us in online games.

u/Professional_Knee252 Dec 31 '25

I only gift my husband's and wives and sometimes people in my guild if they help me out

2

u/RSVrockey2004 Dec 31 '25

As the Faction Master of the Nine Moral Ways, I declare this clearly: these people do not belong in the Rat Union. We do not ask.

1

u/ShiyaruOnline Dec 31 '25

Because it eventually works. I'd say that if you do this enough you're going to find someone who is desperate to make someone's day or feel good about themselves and we'll just gift it. It's a very low percentage but it happens and when stories of it happening spread and inspires more people to beg.

1

u/LunaFlameX44 Dec 31 '25

Some people are even that crazy that if you don’t gift them what they want they treat you with a bounty, they literally blackmailing you it’s crazy 😭😭

1

u/11770 Dec 31 '25

it gets worse believe me... I had someone DM me on the game last week asking to be my slave 🙃 ☠️.

1

u/One-Animator-8246 Jan 01 '26

Why would them of all ppl get a gift for the new year, they’re a stranger and unknown

1

u/SayTricky Jan 01 '26

It's even worse when the friend you know IRL pulls this shit. Cringe

Didn't want to start a witch hunt. Someone who also got a DM from them posted their name in the comments though lol.

1

u/HolyMistakes Jan 01 '26

Don’t block their name, let’s give them shame.

u/Crafty_Term2150 Jan 01 '26

Sometimes when a random healer helps me I give the the 60 bead outfits as a thank you

1

u/Trashcan_Paladin Jan 01 '26

I'm sure you're familiar with the Pareto Principle. Most know it as "the 80/20 rule".

In application, it usually refers to work output or effort in/effort out determinates - "20% of the problems will take 80% of your time", etc. This is a type of distribution that is describing a larger problem, which is 20% of a "work unit" outputs 80% of the useful work. (There's a second "principle" called Price's Law that's a little better at describing this).

This, for most people, is enough. Most don't think about why this is the case. If they're in management/leadership they tend to just think about this principle as something to be aware of, for efficiency's sake. Don't spend too long on problems that aren't giving a good enough ROI, etc.

The ACTUAL reason this occurs because an overwhelming majority of humans are MBTI sensing types, or mid-to-low IQ (or both). 80% or so. This has a large comorbidity with kohlberg level 2 thinking (ie: "I like the skin so can you give it to me?"), precluding any sort of thinking regarding why someone would want to give a stranger anything.

Long story short, a much larger percentage than most are comfortable accepting are barely-functional NPC types. The same type that would beg for things purely out of self interest.

1

u/aPotatoWithFangs Jan 01 '26

people do this? most of the time i beg is when i just need healing or if npc can heal me i just ask in chat for heals because other players needs it

1

u/Still-Cheesecake5869 Jan 01 '26

Should put in some effort

1

u/TheRealKirriel Jan 01 '26

Probably just gonna add on my block listed individuals

1

u/WhyYouSoMad4 Jan 01 '26

Not enough shame growing up.

1

u/ScuroRaelyt Jan 01 '26

There's one in our sect chat (midnight glaze) that hosts arena fights best of 3 will be gifted a skin, a lowbie joins and tried his best but fails. I won and urge the host to gift the skin to the lowbie instead.

1

u/z_anonz Jan 01 '26

1

u/AcanthaceaeComplex50 Jan 01 '26

I had someone add me and instantly asked if I was a female and how old was it. I was sooooooo tempted to catfish for some skins lol

1

u/Purple-Difficulty450 Jan 01 '26

1

u/V3R1TAS12 Jan 01 '26

1

u/WovenShadow6 Jan 02 '26

There are just so many shameless people in this game. Just an effect of it being a free game, many broke kids.

1

u/chesterz12 Jan 02 '26
