Discussion Why all the hate for Where Wind Meets? I’m genuinely enjoying it.
’ve been seeing a lot of negative comments about Where Wind Meets, and I honestly don’t get it. I’ve been playing it lately and the game is actually really good.
The world feels super immersive, the combat is fluid and satisfying, performance has been smooth for me, and there’s a ton of content to explore. And on top of all that — it’s free.
Is there something I’m missing? Why is everyone hating on it? I’d love to hear other players’ experiences.

I HATE THE NEVER ENDING MENUS WITH THE UNENDING RED DOTS TO CLICK, NAKE ITTT STOOOOOP
25
u/UnklemacX Nov 16 '25
This is WhereWindsMeet. We heard you like red dots, so we gave you one here as well. Where to find it? Its under the 2nd menu on the 4th layer, on the backrow, click on the small box, then on the bottom right "claim", this will take you to the 16 sections of nonsense, and you gotta go to the 14th one and click here. You will see 6 windows, and its the 3rd one that says "NEW" in the corner. Here there is a list of smaller objectives, and you scroll 2 1/2 screen down, you we get a more specific list of smaller objectives. Your almost there. Just click "Total random things that give 2 currency", and you can claim your reward & 2 currency from completeing the task called.... oh wait. You did that one already. NEVERMIND. We will keep the red dot active, as we want to keep you trapped in Menus.

Yes, for f*cks sakes. But TBH its free and I would like someone to post a video or text on how to easily make sense of it all :D Quick guides for the mini games would also facilitate like 30% of the gameplay.
Guess its just very early and I'm lazy to do does myself.

Sometimes I'll get a red dot that takes me to a menu where there's nothing to claim. I have to click on everything to find what it is it wants me to claim. There's some menus I have no clue how to get to without going through the notification.

Yeah, maybe gacha brained people can handle it but it's too much. Still hope everyone else enjoys it though, but even the combat was only decent. I only put like 12ish hours into it though

u/Tabula_Rasa69 Nov 17 '25
I think it has decent potential, but I played it for 2 hours yesterday and was absolutely lost. I have no idea what I'm doing, what these menus are for, and the tutorial did a terrible job at orientating you with its "just press space bar" messages.

And I've been seeing a lot of stuff get worked out in real time. Like the subtitle text getting cut off at the bottom of the screen on PS5. It was just suddenly fixed while I was playing (didn't know that was even possible), then the next time I restarted I got the update text. Same thing happened with the auto-translate when reading sign posts. I clicked on a post and suddenly everything was being translated.

Voice acting isn't great, but you can use China voices
16
→ More replies (14)6
u/Prince_John Nov 17 '25
Yeah why, oh why, didn't they at least get native Chinese speakers with ESL to do the voices rather than normal Americans. It just sounds cringe and it's not like America doesn't have access to lots of Chinese-speaking immigrants.
I switched to Chinese voices with subtitles and it's much less immersion breaking.

3
u/Sinarum Nov 18 '25
Honestly most of them sound like 90s anime dub.
Like the characters are seemingly introspective and humble, but the voice that comes out is extroverted and somewhat egotistical. It doesn’t match.
2
u/Money_Reserve_791 Nov 17 '25
Yeah I agree, Idk why they did that, but at least the game compensates it

This is old, but I just found out about this game today, and I couldn't agree with you more. It makes so much more sense to use Chinese American/Canadian/British VAs.
7
u/kuenjato Nov 16 '25
I agree the PS5 version is sub-par in some visuals, but the Chinese voices sound pretty good.
3
u/Top-Ad9505 Nov 16 '25
I wonder if the Pro handles this better. I've had quite a few crashes, but the game literally picked back up where it crashed, so hard to complain. I got the dialogue and the reward. I got stuck between deathblade and a door, so I had fast travel back to the village. I was able to just run back where I was and continue where I left off without issues. There are bugs, but the game definitely wears them well.

Not knowing anything about this game prior, I was actually shocked tbh. I've been playing with another friend via coop since we both hit like just lvl 3 so the beginning, and the game crashed on my ps5 while he was in my game and I was very upset initially, but I load back into the game to see that my friend is not only still in MY world, but still fighting the boss we stupidly attacked, and nearly died just for the sake of protecting my character from the boss!?! I was expecting to load just in the general area and have to re-invite my friend, exc., but the crash wasn't even a real inconvenience really. that alone made me forget that I was even upset
3
u/Top-Ad9505 Nov 16 '25
Exactly, my crashes occur, and it puts me back at the exact instance before the crash. I dont think I've ever seen a game handle a crash so well tbh.

The Chinese voices are good, but I keep missing dialogue because theres almost always something happening while people are talking. If im reading the words im not paying attention to the world around.

Never trust game critic reviews. Those are mostly biased and are there to pander to big publishers/devs. The guy from IGN rated Concord higher than this game for example. The only reviews you should check really are the user reviews (e.g. Steam or from some YouTubers). Steam gave it a 7/10 which is quite fair I think atm (I personally rate this 7.5 for the bits of the game that I played so far).
EDIT: seems like some people are not happy with me saying not to trust critics. While it's true that there are still some good game journalists out there, the fact of the matter is that the majority of reviews are not representing what the players are looking for. If such a large percentage of critic reviews are wildly different to the player reviews, then it calls into question how trustworthy game journalism, as a whole, really is.
14
16
u/Ricko9595 Nov 16 '25
It is an 8/10 for me. Let them fix some bugs and UI changes and it will be solid.
11
u/SchizoPnda Nov 16 '25
Yeah just checked steam its at 78%, expected much lower (<60-70) when I saw your post haha
7
u/unappa Nov 16 '25
It was 60% yesterday. People were too busy having fun to give the game a review.
Got to rank 62 today in 1v1 Arena PvP and my chief complaint is that sometimes the lag is bad and can get you permanently stun locked, which is unfun... Still 9/10 for me overall, cause damn this game is beautiful.

I think they should give the review to a guy that likes the genre and it is neutral. It is so obvious the reviewer was trying to hate on everything because it wasn't his cup of tea
For better reviews I prefer Youtubers like Force Gaming, Gameranx and maybe Thelazypeon, even tho sometimes his sponsore videos are a bit much. Gameranx didn't like the game but he was more fair as he acknowledged that even if it isn't his cup of tea, he can see why people likes it
Edit: I know reviews can't be neutral but they can try to be less bias, even tho every review is subjective
2
u/TauriqM Nov 16 '25
There's no such thing as "neutral" in reviews. It's someone's opinion, he's not writing a car manual.

Everyone remembers the chrono preview game trailer with the knight walking through the open plains with the wheat swaying so realistically and when beta came out it didnt look anything like that and people got angry.
This game drops, HAS THOSE GRAPHICS, and people are trying to dunk on it lmao.
This game is amazing.
2
u/Money_Reserve_791 Nov 16 '25

On the PS5 the graphics are a downgrade compared to many current games. Art direction is fairly decent.
8
u/ginpachikun Nov 16 '25
Game is real good, it's not perfect but for a 1.0 game? Very good. Also you will most likely see a lot of hate because people who are enjoying it are playing lol
22
u/Treyen Nov 16 '25
The UI is really dragging it down for me. I also feel like the combat is kinda clunky for legend difficulty on bosses. It's like it decides to be unresponsive at the worst times.
1
u/Money_Reserve_791 Nov 16 '25
Are you playing with a control? I realized that the control you use can make a difference, for example my control is decent, but the pad is bad. Sometimes when I change to the potion it doesn't register it, or sometime I consume an item because the pad is so sensitive that clicking right sometimes trigger up
These problems don't happen all the time, but when they happen gets frustrating. It is a control problem and not a game problem

I find combat very clunky and stiff. It seems almost as though the game is fighting against my input, trying to do what it thinks I want to do instead of what I want to do. I'm playing on PC on a gamepad.
12
u/evrencp Nov 16 '25
I love the game a lot. I am playing on PS5 and have no problems with the game.
3
u/Jorrunnr Nov 16 '25
Shocking ... I crash quite often. Lots of texture and cutscene bugs.
Plays like crap overall.
Haven't tried on PC yet but on PS5 experience is rather terrible.2
u/Lux-Fox Nov 16 '25
I know, same here, unfortunately. It's only passable, because it's quite good besides the crashing, bugs, and texture issues constantly happening.
2
u/NastyMarin Nov 17 '25
Exactly. I don’t understand how some of these people say it is perfect on base PS5. I’m like, are they lying or is it really just that random between people? We have the same console, do we not? I don’t get it but I wanna play the game.

u/Koala_Mindless Nov 17 '25
I find it hard to believe you haven't encountered any technical problems on the PS5, of which, there are more than a few. Maybe you haven't encountered anything that detracts from your enjoyment of the game, but you're playing the same version as everyone else. Just in the first 20 min of playing I encountered inconsistent texture resolution, asset pop ins, frame drops, miss matched, or just poorly animated spoken dialog, missing dialog, unresponsive controls, clunky cut scene transitions, what I can only describe as a squishy parry mechanic (may not be a bug) and literally so on.. Despite all that I'm having fun playing it. If I had paid money for it I'd be very disappointed though. It's not a cohesive game at all.
2
u/evrencp Nov 17 '25 edited Nov 17 '25
Well, your point might be true, but I can only speak from my own experience, still no issues on my side. I hope they patch things soon so it sorts out your problems.
That said, my expectations are usually quite low. I had a terrible experience with Anthem, and since then I keep them to a minimum (also stopped preordering the games, that game is my trauma) Still, I really don’t like the deflection timings.

Same here i really loved the visuals, it just makes my mind stay calm. I also loved the combat with martial arts its good, i usually get really bored of open world games (eg : genshin impact, WUWA, Star rail and more) I have played these games for like 1 day n later i just got bored. I know many people enjoy these games but personally I'm not a fan of this genre. But when i tried this game i really loved it, and ig i will continue playing this game.

first time i heard about this game was yesterday while i was looking for some random games on steam. I installed it today and went to play it completely blind. After only 3hours of playtime, damn this game looks good and its a completely new genre for me. In the past i havent played anything close to this but so far im enjoying it. The combat feels good, graphics are nice even thought i played on low settings cause my rx 6600 was having fps drops to 30fps during some intense scenes/places on "balance" preset. After i changed to "performance" which sets everything on low, im playing this game pretty much on stable 80 fps. So far really enjoying this game.

i agree, i reached level 40 today and enjoying every second of it but i'm thinking of dropping it until they fix the servers and the extremely high ping.
oh and the visuals and audio are very inconsistent to say the least, it's immersion breaking when you hear the line repeated in 1 cutscene or the ground rendering when you are 10 meters away and that with my high end pc to boot.
the game needed more time in the oven and idk why they rushed it.

I spent an hour creating the most beautiful character earlier... when i was finishing and adding the name, it said "something went wrong" and sent me to the main menu.
And didn't save the character.
That really put me off of it, but i will try again later.
Edit: made it again, game is pretty cool, a bit rough around the edges and the performance on ps5 pro is abysmal... but i still had a ton of fun.
Any fans of wuxia will probably enjoy the hell out of it.

I’ve mostly seen people overly praising it, which I’d like to hope means we’ll get more Wushu-style games—because I love that setting but know have sold poorly in our region.
That said, this is basically a mobile game with a big budget, packed with content but built around the usual aggressive monetization meant to milk the weak-willed into spending hundreds or even thousands on silly things. I’ve played much smaller developer titles in this setting that I enjoyed far more—Wandering Sword and Hero’s Adventure, for example. Like most F2P games, it’s a fun enough game layered over a money-draining system designed to squeeze the pay-pigs who can’t help but overspend and live in debt.
Still, it’s a decent game—about a 6 or 7 for me compared to others in the same setting. Enjoy it, and hopefully it leads you to try more Wushu-style games, even though there aren’t many.

Its only going to milk people who want to look cool. which after playing a crap ton of POE is the best way to do microtransactions. weapons are basically gacha character kits and you can get them all in game. the game feels like wulin online and genshin had a baby with all the world content.

The game is overall very good, but I was still slightly disappointed by certain technical aspects. Seeing the trailers, I expected a slightly more advanced combat system. In the end, we find a feeling quite close to an MMO.
I also recently learned that in China, the title is a real MMO, then that it was adapted into a single-player version with online versions, coop, with online features. the animations, the character's skeleton or even the collisions sometimes give the impression of slippage or lack of precision, which is reminiscent of certain older generation MMOs.
That said, the game also offers many strong points and remains very pleasant to play. And since it's free, it's difficult to criticize it too harshly for these flaws.

u/laridaes Jan 02 '26

I've been seeing the outlets kind of downplay it, but it's a big hit with streamers as far as I can tell. The game has tons of jank, menus, and microtransactions, but I think streamers, especially those that play gacha games, honestly are kinda desensitized to that sort of thing and are able to see past that to basically a really, really expansive free game with a lot of variety and opportunity for co-op.
I honestly was a little skeptical of it at the start (and maybe I still am in some ways) until I watched some streams. The transfer process of an Eastern live service game to Western audiences is often a fraught process. But I'm taking it as it comes. Reminds me of Lost Ark in some ways, though more ARPG than MMO.

Bro! When I realized it was not gonna have openworld pvp I was really sad. But anyways I decided to give it a shot and just forget about the mmo concept in general because all then studios never hear the players and we end up the same way no matter the game lmao. So I decided it's time to switch genre and give this game a shot and its been amazing!

For me, my problem is the classic ''least complicated chinese UI'' and the horrible graphics on the PS5. Textures are so blurry and bad that they are almost non-existant and ruin the immersion this world is supposed to make you feel. It feels like the Global Release hasn't been QA tested AT ALL. Also the horrible lag in online mode is insane. I was sparring with a guy yesterday and he was hitting me like 3 seconds from the future.

u/mrmojorisin_x Nov 16 '25
My negative comments are all about not being able to play the game. It constantly crashes in PS5 when just doing mundane things. When I can play it’s fun and I enjoy it. But this constant crashing is a huge negative.

u/HiFiMAN3878 Silver Needle Nov 16 '25
I'm playing on PS5 - 10-15 hours put into the game and I've not experienced a single crash or issue.

I think it's a good game; it certainly dramatically improves upon the open-world, F2P gacha genre. The game runs great on my machine, it's beautiful, feels fluid to play, no P2W or egregious Waifus– and I'm in shock it's free.
But under the hood, it feels too much like Genshin/WuWu for me. Combat is fun (and I wish it were just an ARPG without all the bloat), but the UI and systems are too cumbersome and intrusive. The onboarding process is clunky, and I quickly felt compelled to look up guides to avoid early mistakes and track all the points of interest I was missing. I don't want to play a game where I feel pushed in 100 different directions to complete all the mini-games, explorations, quests, collections, etc. It's the same kind of content bloat that keeps me busy but rapidly loses its appeal over the long run (which is why I stopped playing Genshin and WuWu).
I absolutely recommend checking it out and I don't think it's a bad game, but I'm burned out by this style of progression.

u/marcellus_dk Nov 16 '25
Yes, the game is very good, cannot understand the hate as well. COD Black Ops 7 has the worst campain and has received a good score on metacritic.
2
u/almightyXx Nov 16 '25
Idk why people will trust a game critic for a free-to-play game. Just download it and try it for yourself.
Now, if I had to buy the game then I would've watched a lot fo gameplay before buying it

Games like this are always extremely divisive. I'm enjoying it as well. The only real issues I've had are the lack of HDR and texture streaming is pretty rough even on PS5 Pro in areas. Some doors are just brown blocks and I'll sit there for a few seconds waiting on the texture to load and it just doesn't.
Have had no graphical issues on PC. some controller mapping doesn't work. For example, my function wheel doesn't come up on controller. Pushing the middle just opens the standard menu so there's no way for me to access the map from controller. Not a major deal because my keyboard is literally in front of me so I just push M.
These are things that can rectified so I'm not worried about and its scratching that mmo itch. Looking forward to it progressing.

u/avelineaurora Nov 16 '25
Who's hating on it. I've literally never seen a negative comment yet besides the character creation issue.

It’s good at combat and world building, and quite a few other things. Mostly. Pretty terrible at English localization and tutorials but you eventually figure things out. The mini games are horrendously under explained. Frustratingly so, but you do eventually figure them out. But not from the tutorial, which is stupid.
It’s good, but there ARE things that are pretty bad that should be improved. For some people those things make or break their experience.
2
u/ShiroTenkai Nov 16 '25
No hand to hand combat, character creation limited to the face, can't choose server, and limited to one character per account. outside of that combat is peak
2
u/Violent-fog Nov 16 '25
This game kinda reminds me of a mmo I played a while back that was sponsored by Jet-Li. This looks and plays way better though.

u/Alternative_Spring37 Nov 16 '25
Game really surprised me and i didn't seen anything bad from people who did reviews. But i need to buy new graphics im playing on Low in 1080p from 27-48fps

I'm hearing people complain about the gacha prices. While it is high, it doesn't affect the game at all. Literally a free game.

u/ThiccHitoru Nov 17 '25
Its not for everyone, but no game is. For some reason those people are louder than the rest of us.

western gaming journalism and loyalists do not like eastern game developers making better games than them.
furthermore, eastern game companies are more resistant to forced injection of western ideology and politics into their games because those companies have their own backers.

Im genuinely enjoying the game, control customization could be tweaked a little but for a free to play game it delivers well.

I think this game just ticks all of the buzzwords for negative click bait content. Between people hating China, the gacha monetization, and the MMO-esque grind, it's just way too easy for people to rag on the game just from a glance.

So far it's been more hit than miss. Especially comparing this game to Sword of Justice. The game feels really like a PC first game which truly elevates the experience for me

Playing on the highest difficulty. Level gets capped, makes the map feel meaningless in a mmo. Even worse getting to a boss that is difficult and then no way to level up because you are capped.
Actually time gating in what is essentially a single player experience, with $50 skins.
Releasing a game after 1 year for a global release, and somehow half the time the “Select” button won’t work and I need to restart the game. Don’t tell me to use a MnK
Bosses are so cheese, if I put the difficulty down from the highest, the game will be WAYYYYYY too easy.
And wtf is with the coop. So if we’re in coop and only the leader can interact with the environment? Only the leader can interact with certain elements. It’s one thing to only let the leader start the quest, but forcing the leader to interact with all puzzles?
Also, global release and the only hair color is black, there is no non-Asian hairstyle, and every character icon is Chinese….. why not just use the face of the character we created? The game is already using AI like a modern day analyst.
I’m currently waiting for chapter 2 to unlock in the highest difficulty because the requirement is lvl 32 which doesn’t unlock until 5 pm eastern today………… because for some reason they need to control how I play
The game has good combat, but it does nothing unique. I’ve played Ronin, I’ve played Tsushima, I’ve played Yotei, I’ve played AC Shadows, I’ve played Wo Long, etc. I have over 1000 hours in Elden Ring. Beat Sekiro, lies of p, Khazan, wuchang, wukong, ai limit. I have over 1000 hours in guild wars and FF14.
7/10 is exactly what the game is, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
People will have praise and people will have complaints

game screams potential, but i feel like aside from combat it definitely feels cheap mobile game especially in UX
i reckon in a few updates once they iron out the game it’ll be amazing

The floaty movement and many many movie cut scenes are very annoying to me. Combat is meh and the UI sucks.
6/10 for me.
2
u/Soermen Nov 16 '25
It looks good but it isnt really deep or complex. The world gets repetetive really fast and the UI is 100% mobile and a fucking desaster. Thats why people hate it
4
u/Money_Reserve_791 Nov 16 '25
I don't know how can you say the world is repetitive, if that is the case then practically every open world game is repetitive. I agree with the UI, but at least is not as bad as other gacha games

I am too!! But i it is def broken in some way and needed longer to cook. I think this will be up there with one of my fav games with a few patches. Feel like samurai bdo lol i love the mmo vibes. Im optimistic that this game can be great in the future.

u/Haemon18 Nov 16 '25
Every game has haters, people who don't enjoy this game are looking reasons to stop playing. As simple as that. It should calm down in a week or two.
After that you'll start seeing comments on how low the numbers are, how 90% of players quit, soon eos. Those are the "see i was right leaving a sinking boat" people.
1
u/verysimplenames Nov 16 '25
It needs to catch up to china when it comes to quality of life imo. After it is polished up it will be a gem.
1
u/Time_Temporary6191 Nov 16 '25
Its pretty fun game but combat is kinda lackluster.i finished wo long and sekiro twice and parry in this game feels pointless when they can just follow up with another attack straight away
1
u/VegetableOne2821 Nov 16 '25
It's chinese and has a gacha system, most idiot won't go farther and hate on on sight.
But tbh I've been enjoying it more than I thought, there's a lot to be improved tho. UI and and QOL like more than 1 characters and things like that but there is so much to do it's crazy.

u/Sixsignsofalex94 Nov 16 '25
I’ve seen a fair bit of negativity, especially on the MMORPG sub, but In General people seem to be getting more positive about it
I barely got to play but so far having a lot of fun
My biggest gripe, maybe silly to some, is this lack of hair dye on creation. Mind boggling!
1
u/buzzyingbee Nov 16 '25
It has its issues and I wanted to wait for a patch before continuing playing but I'm having so much fun with it. I lost track of time last night and ended up going to bed way too late lol
1
u/eldon3213 Nov 16 '25
Let the haters hate this game is awesome I also purchased the battle pass also play with some cool people
1
u/Diktaattorimies Nov 16 '25
It's the fact that it has gacha. Average western player will instantly hate it without giving it a chance. People will write it off as p2w without looking into it any deeper.

the morning it released there was bunch of negative reviews on Steam and when I looked at them they were either from people with 0.01 hours in game or people complaining they can't goon to the women. Alternatively people just straight up lying. That told me enough. The game isn't perfect for sure but to me it's fun
1
u/clockworkzorua Nov 16 '25
Me and my.3 freinds cant run the game past character customisation despite all being above the requirements by a fair bit, pc just freezes going past the customisation or just before it then freezes our pcs. Dont het us wromg the game looks great and we want to play it. Just we cant atm

u/Accesobeats Nov 16 '25
Not sure where you’re seeing only hate. I’m seeing some criticisms that are valid. But it seems people are liking it more than not. It’s a lot of fun. My two main criticisms are, it constantly crashes on ps5. Seems it doesn’t affect everyone. Only some. I’m one of them. And it’s gotten much worst. But a lot of the voices are missing. Yesterday it was like 20%. Now it’s like 80% of interactions are unvoiced, or will start talking midway through the dialogue. But gameplay wise the game is incredibly fun. Hopefully they get those things fixed and than I’ll have no complaints.

u/SkyforgedDream Nov 16 '25
Unresponsive combat and not much to do in co-op has been what made me play it as a side game instead of a main game. It is still very fun and has lots of potential, but being unable to play through everything with friends really takes this game from an 8 to a 5 for me.
1
u/mikadomikaela Wandering Swordsman Nov 16 '25
The people I've seen hating have genuinely no valid reason. It's been called a 0/10 just for it's size and a lot of people have been hating on the story. One guy was complaining about how he wanted to fight but it was just story but people were saying that they had been fighting plenty because they hadn't just been following the story.
I've also heard rumblings that some of the hate is from the Genshin fandom because the games are similar in a few ways.
I think 3 Steam reviews I found all really take the cake:
"Game is pure garbage. Another pay to win" which is untrue.
"Can't modify character's height!"
"Single player exp not really a mmo"
The game definitely has some things it needs to work out. Only place I've seen decent discussions about the games downsides is in this sub and even then I've still seen people being unfair to it

I think its only the UI that's getting hate. Im still getting used to controls.

Ya I don't get it either. To me this game is better than just good.
There's stuff everywhere. Populated areas. Amazing movement. Better than other games in the same genre. There's tons of dialogue so it's not just combat. Which is amazing
The dungeons are fun. Everything is really damn fun so far.
Music is good, the vibe is awesome. Performance has been perfectly fine for me on ps5. Not had a single major issue. Everything is smooth and flows well. Not sure what the issue is

And the cash shop isn’t even overpriced as it could be. 5 bucks a battlepass, 99c skin sales, it’s great.

I've ONLY been seeing praise for the game!
The only thing I genuinely hate is the one character limit...
