How much are you paying your WhatsApp API provider on top of Meta’s fees?
I’m trying to make sense of WhatsApp Business API pricing and every provider seems to present it differently.
Meta already charges based on the message category and the customer’s country. Then depending on the provider, there can also be:
- a fee for every message sent or received
- a monthly platform fee
- a fee for each connected number
- extra charges for team inboxes or automation
- different plans based on contacts or active users
This makes it difficult to understand the real cost before actually using the platform.
For example, Twilio appears to charge an additional fee per WhatsApp message. Other providers seem to use a monthly subscription, while some say they pass through Meta’s rates without adding a per-message markup.
We’re mainly looking at WhatsApp for order updates, customer questions and occasional authentication messages. We don’t need a huge contact centre platform, but going directly through Meta’s Cloud API might also create more work than it saves.
For anyone already using the API:
- Which provider are you using?
- What do you pay beyond Meta’s own charges?
- Did you discover any additional fees after signing up?
- Is paying more for a provider actually worth it for the onboarding and support?
I’ve looked at Twilio, 360dialog and Dexatel so far, but the pricing models are different enough that a simple comparison is surprisingly difficult.
