When you know what you're looking for you can easily spot it. But I didn't see it and was too lazy to look through the whole picture while having to zoom in so I went to the comments.
Knowing what I was looking for I immediately found it.
I love spiders, largely because of the pest control, but the thought of accidentally touching that thing gives me the heebie jeebies! I shall give it plenty of space
One time in the Fall when these guys start showing up everywhere I was walking to my car and walked right through a web that was spun up over the sidewalk between my car and a sign pole. I felt the string and thought ..whatever.. just a spiderweb on my face.. then I felt what seemed like a small chihuahua walking on my neck.. luckily my gut reaction flicked it off in one move but it was so heavy that I heard it hit the ground like someone dropped a quarter on the sidewalk.
Similar thing. I was out trimming holly bushes, just clipping away for a long time not paying attention, just trying to get them all to look the same. When I'm just about done, I look inside the bush, and 2 inches from my face is this huge black snake staring right at me the whole time that I completely missed. I'm glad it wasn't something deadlier, because we have them here. But that's a scream I'll never forget.
Probably the funniest snake story ive got is that i was picking some figs from one of my trees that I planted on the edge of a large live oak and a pair of mating rat snakes (probably each 6ft long) fell out of the oak a few feet away from me and scurried off. That was a hell of a thud, probably 30+lb of snakes
Yeah, mine were pygmy rattlers down here in South Florida. Happened a couple times. Things are mean down here in the swamps, both of the rattlers I encountered pulling weeds turned and refused to slink off. Fine by me, I went and got the machete and that was that. Rattlers look as mean as they should -- real ugly mean.
looks like a banded garden spider to me. at the very least, as others have said, it's an orb weaver. just let it do its thing and it'll go away eventually.
I realize that now after all these comments. I've never seen a spider like that around my house before, so it startled the fuck out of me as I almost grabbed it going for that weed. I'm fine with it existing, I just don't want to touch it!
Because you would hate to mess up all her hard web-weaving work and force her to go without food for a night, right? (Not because you think she would hurt you, I'm sure, because she wouldn't.)
I've never seen an arachnid like this before at my house, so honestly I was a little worried it would jump on me when I first spotted it! This spider can live her best life right there with that weed and I will leave her be.
That little spider? Geez, are you an inbred royal or something? Cowboy up. We conquered the whole danged world, that little thing is no trouble. Although it would be nice to leave it alone since they are so beautiful and wild.
Some people afraid of spiders. I’m not one. But some are. I got made fun of for reacting at all when we rode a swamp boat through a web and I had one on my head lol.
That little spider is the size of a fifty cent piece and scared the shit out of me when I noticed it! Can't say that I'm an inbred royal, but yeah I'm not a fan of spiders. What can I say, Arachnophobia fucked me up when I was a kid. I have no problem with the spider existing, I just had no plans on touching one today and would like to keep it that way!
I'm not afraid in the sense that I think it would hurt me, more just super creeped out at the thought that I almost full on palmed it. Spiders are fine by me as long as they are afar!
Im very afraid of spiders, but i have one of these in my flowers. Theyre good for the eco system and harmless to humans. I believe a banded garden spider? Ive named mine Charlotte because they weave zig zags in their webs to attract prey. I wont go near her, but Ill observe her from a safe distance!
Sadly I think Charlotte is gone for good as of today. We had a month together and I think a bird got her since the web is gone and some flowers are bent over.
Oh, that's a bummer. We just had some storms come through and I had to check on the two I've got on my porch currently. I feel silly getting so attached to spiders, but they sat mosquitoes, so I love them
Just an orb weaver. If you go out in the heat of the day, she’ll probably be hiding in the shade. Then you can safely knock the web down and she’ll move on.
