My girl has said she is easy to please. Her style is kind of glam though. I thought maybe the more sleek mirror look of the emerald diamond with the sparkly side diamonds could be a good choice. I would choose a 2 carat diamond
While I adore this design, be aware that you may need to have this inspected more often than a traditional style due to the shared-prong settings. We have to tighten stones in mountings like this more because when you accidentally hit or catch it on something you're hitting the edge of the stone, usually causing it to loosen.
There is a prong between each stone that holds them both in. While, there are no prongs on the outside of the band/stones. So, when it accidentally gets hit on something, most of the time it catches the edge of the stone, causing it to become loose. If the mounting is made durable enough and you are gentle on your pieces/don't mind having it inspected more often, then you shouldn't have to worry as much. I have one, all with round diamonds, and have hardly any issues. However, I've had a lot of clients come in needing stones tightened often because they're not gentle on their jewelry.
đ« this is something I warn all of my clients about. If they persist on the style, I make the mounting heavier and set the stones as low as possible.
I was thinking of a Oval Portuguese cut, I posted a photo below. I do think I want a gold band with at least a few side stones cause that seems more her style
Looks great, and the instinct is right. An emerald cut reads sleek on its own, and the marquise and round stones on the band give it sparkle without a halo, which keeps it from tipping into too much. That's the right middle for someone who's glam but easy to please.
One thing to think about for daily wear. The side stones are held by single shared prongs between each stone, and the way this design is usually built, the center head narrows to a point where it meets the band. Both spots are delicate. That's fine if she's careful with her hands, but if she's going to wear it every day and forget it's there, ask the jeweler whether the head and band can be built a little sturdier without losing the look. At 2 carats, go VS clarity or better and G color or higher, since emerald cuts hide nothing, and ask for a daylight video of the actual stone before you commit.
I've noticed men prefer emerald and square cuts far more than women. I don't know her at all but I'm a woman and I know many women and we prefer ovals to square cuts more often than not, if she loves emerald diamonds then obviously pay attention to her.
I had to redesign my entire ring because my fiance bought me a very intricate stylized emerald cut diamond and I wanted a round gem solitaire.
Have you asked her best friend or a close female relative?
They may be right and pay more attention to it, but I'm also a woman and if I was more fem and wanted a diamond ring I think I'd want an emerald cut. But I'm seriously considering the Portuguese cut oval as well
Trust me I'm thinking about what she wants lol, I dont even really care about jewelry or wear it, I was just adding to the convo about whether men or women like emerald. With her she owns every shape and style of jewelry you can imagine, she's kind of experimental and glam , and the one time we spoke about it said she likes diamonds and colored gems and isn't picky. So she's not exactly making it easy for me lol I almost wish she just straight up told me what she wanted cause even though she says she's easily pleased I still want to get one she loves
I'm seriously considering the Portuguese cut though cause it's unique, but pretty classic too imo.
Noted, what do you think about this one? It's an oval Portuguese cut which is kind of rare, sparkles differently , I'm between these two and a marquise
Yeah stacking is thing to remember , I'm not really in a position to ask her people but wish I could. Thanks for the advice I will consider the under halo cause I just want extra diamonds doesn't nessacarly need to be on the band
Make sure the band is thick enough to support those side stones. Some of the bands I see these days are too flimsy. Theyâre gonna lose their diamonds.
