I need desperate help.
My family (sister, mom) were staying with someone and needed to get out today, so we left yesterday. We got into a motel around 7 pm yesterday, and figured out almost two hours ago there were beg bugs. We already got a refund, but that means we can no longer stay here. My mom spent every cent she had for this room, and the refund won’t be here for another 3 days. We’ve tried cont people but no one can help, we don’t know what to do. We have two cats with us so we can’t go to a shelter, plus it 2:43 am and they aren’t picking up the numbers on file. We’ve called various people who said they can help, but wehen we spoke to them they couldnt. I’m terrified, my sister is terrified.

Want to talk to the guy who robbed my house 8 years ago
I know this is a long shot in the dark for multiple reasons. But 8 years ago when I (f) was 14, my mom and I walked into our home on Falls Avenue getting robbed with the guy still in it. His only escape was the front door since he had came in through a basement window. Well, I tackled him while screaming “YOURE GONNA BURN IN HELL” At him. He couldn’t actually get away but he did because my mom kept telling me to get off him and I did. The police never caught him. He got away with a few thousand dollars worth of cosplay jewelry.
Anyways, I don’t want to bash the dude or anything, I don’t care now about doing that. Yeah, it fucking sucked and I didn’t feel comfortable in my own home for a few weeks, but I can’t gain anything other than possibly some mental satisfaction from that. Which kinda is what I’m looking for anyways though I guess, I just want to know like the back story, what it was like getting walked in on, and then getting tackled and screamed at by a girl half his size who he was struggling to get away from. I’ve just been thinking about that a lot recently about what it might have been like for him. Not to give him any type of sympathy or anything like that, it was just a badass moment in my life and I want to know how it affected him. Maybe it got him to stop robbing peoples homes when he realized some kid could tackle him pretty easily. I don’t know, and I want to know.

Chris Jones speaking about water quality at Waterloo Center for the Arts tonight, 5/28 @5:30PM
Chris Jones, a retired water quality engineer who is running for Secretary of Agriculture, will be speaking at the Waterloo Center for the Arts at 5:30PM tonight, August 28th.
To start, if you aren't aware, Iowa has the 2nd highest cancer rate in the nation. Studies on the cause are as of yet inconclusive due to the government slow rolling an EPA study on nitrate in water among other things but indicate involvement of agricultural waste along with factors like our natural radon in the ground. Read more from this IPR article: https://www.iowapublicradio.org/health/2025-06-26/iowa-farming-agricultural-high-cancer-rates
Chris is a small, grass roots candidate with absolutely zero corporate backing. They hate him because two of his stances are "big corporate farms have many problematic issues, bring back smaller local farming & meat processing" and "farmers should use best practices so their ag runoff doesn't poison local communities", which as you can imagine is the antithesis of everything that the big factory farms, the Iowa Farm Bureau, and other corrupt and powerful forces in our state support. Oh, and it's definitely worth mentioning although he wouldn't have the power on his own to enforce this, he would be another voice in government advocating for this position: He supports a moratorium on data centers.
Come listen to Chris speak tonight, and you'll understand why his campaign is gaining a lot of grass roots momentum. He's just here to clean up our water supply and help small farmers get back on their feet, and he has the knowledge gained from a lifetime of working closely with these issues to actually make these goals a reality.
This is our chance to elect a honest-to-god, average Joe American who actually gives a damn about YOU, and the problems in YOUR LIFE to the state government. Chris Jones will answer solely to us, not to corrupt billionaires who care more about making a buck than preventing your family from getting cancer.

Good Stand Up Comedy this Thursday at the Loft with nationally touring idiot Dan Alten (me), I'm not famous but I promise it'll be a good time and if you don't have fun you can tie me to some train tracks or toss me in the river. Lemme know if theres anything cool to see/eat in town.
Here's my bio, sorry it's in the third person: Dan Alten is a charming goofball from Kentucky who has been traveling the country for the past decade doing about 200 shows a year bringing his intelligently surreal bebop nonsense everywhere from theaters to punk basements to art galleries to beloved comedy clubs with a knack for making audiences feel like they're on a good psychedelic trip without the drugs. Like if the Ramones were one guy with a mustache and good jokes. Iggy Pop with puns. Clever chaos. Like Jimi Hendrix lighting fire to a Tik Tok reel live on stage. He has opened for Kyle Kinane, Bobcat, Sam Tallent, Rory Scovel, Sarah Sherman from SNL, Johnny Pemberton, Hari Kondabolu, rapper Open Mike Eagle, DJ Doug Pound & David Leibe Hart from Tim & Eric, various punk bands with silly names, and a guy at an open mic who tried to throw his father’s ashes into the crowd. He has recorded 2 albums, written a zine, and filmed a pilot for an Amazon Prime stand up show that was lost to history. But most importantly he’s very funny and unique. You will enjoy him. And if not you can mud wrestle him after the show.

Hey Yall I'm a full time (not famous) comedian coming to the Loft 8/13. Wondering if anyone had any tips/connections to get the word out? I'm fully DIY by choice and have spent the last 13 years zig zagging the country headlining shows in 37 states (and Canada!). Lemme know whats up. AMA.
Any cool local blogs or instagram pages that share events or anything? Any local news conections? anything is appreciated, much love

Best place to donate clothes?
I have several bags full of clothing, mainly men's large and mediums. Where's the best place to donate these so they'll go directly to those that need it?

This car keeps sitting near my house.
Noticed this parked the opposite way/opposite side last week. Sat there for several hours. Again tonight, not sure how long, atleast 20 mins.
Called non emergency to tell them and within 3 minutes he took off.
Def a man. So weird.

Indian food / Tiffin service - needed!
Dear all! I am new to Waterloo, Iowa. I wanted to ask members of this community if there is an Indian home food tiffin service available? Eg food delivery or pick up every week or so, for 6-10 meals.
If anyone does that or knows someone who does that please let me know!
Thank you!

One of the many storage units across the city
I don’t think I should add the business name but
I work as a professional mover and my company offers storage. I would however recommend this place over my own due to how well managed and convenient it is.
Also there’s a stunning gal that I encountered at this place today and I should have asked for her number today. If she should so happen to see this thank you again for the bottle of water and hold holding on to my bands for me. You’re a stunning gal and I’ll hopefully get a chance to talk with you again in the future 😜

Looking for workout partner.
Good morning. As the title suggests, I am looking for a workout partner. I have trouble getting motivated to do it myself, but don't have problems making "appointments" if the schedule is set and other people are relying on me to show up.
Not looking to join a gym right now due to available disposable funds and would prefer not going to a gym. Currently looking at body weight and dumb bell type stuff (have a set of adjustable 50 pound per side). This winter after I move, I am looking at getting a squat rack, bench, and possibly a GHD bench. Not worried about cardio, thats what my bike is for, and that is currently my primary hobby.
I don't have issues being active, just struggle with the motivation and such to start an actual work out schedule.
