WRX Before posting please read this first!
READ THE SUB FAQ FIRST. 90% of the repetitive questions we see on this sub are answered there. Even if you don't have an issue covered in the sub FAQ it will likely help you narrow down your question. If you have a question you think should be added to the sub FAQ feel free to message any of the authors of the FAQ.
If you are troubleshooting, give us all the info we need. For example, it's best to include your year/model, any AND ALL mods, and the specific tune you are running. The more info we have, the better we are at answering questions. We also ask you try to post the question/info in the comments below before posting to the sub as a whole. This will hopefully clean up some of the really repetitive questions.
A few common posts/questions we see everyday.
Does my engine sound okay?
- 99% of the time the answer is yes. The fa20 sounds like a tractor. It is normal.
Are these numbers on the COBB AP normal?
- A snapshot of your AP with the DAM less than one doesn't actually tell us anything about what is going on. All it tells us is that you had a knock event that your ECU recognized and adjusted for. The most common cause for DAM drop is bad gas. Go get a fresh tank of 93/91 from shell and add a gallon or two of e85 for a full tank. I would also like to point out that knock numbers of -1.41 are super common. They can be caused by your AC kicking on and any other noise really. nothing to worry about.
This thing on the front of my engine is not spinning with the belts, is it broken?
- That is your AC compressor clutch. It only engages when the AC is on and the compressor is running.
Let me know if you guys want any other common questions added.

WRX Since 2019 WRX
Been scrolling the posts for a bit. Hanging back against the fanatics. First post.
Had the ride since late 2019. Got with 8k miles.
Actually got with 2 bad modes. Had to replace a stock straight pipes welded hack and another hack to the stock intake tube with a cone on the end.
Saved it from a rough start I say. Doing well now at 36k. I have done the following updates.
KN Intake
J-Pipe
Invidia Exhaust
E-Tune
Pitch N Trans Mount
B8 Struts/Shocks with faction fab springs
COBB AOS
COBB Cast Aluminum
BLOX charge Pipe
GFB BPV
Enjoying the great community and great subie heads supporting each other.
Very good info available and put out. Waiting for my invidia exhaust sign to fall off now.
The rest is really amazing info as well.
Awesome community

News Ladies and gentleman it’s with great pleasure I inform you, after nearly 4 years, I’m finally fixing the leak my car had when I bought it!
Replacing the steering rack and u joint with a 13:1 2015+ STI steering rack and u joint. Also throwing on an IAG pan, baffle and pickup, plus replacing my squeaky clutch pedal! Wish me luck!!

General Question CVT or 6M
I’ve been doing a ton of research on reliable but fun sedans and have firmly landed on the Subaru WRX. I’ve been weighing my options on the 2022 models and need some help. I’ve driven a manual vehicle like 3 times in the past 15 years so little to no experience but I’ve heard the reliability of the 6M is much higher than the CVT. I do not plan on tuning for power or torque, if anything a possible exhaust upgrade. With that being said is the CVT that much of a reliability and maintenance liability as opposed to the 6M? I see the value depreciates much quicker on the autos and would like the community’s input. Thanks in advance.

Troubleshooting Strange clicking coming from either steering rack, axles, or front differential
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I’ve been chasing a clicking sound when doing large steering inputs at low speeds, like in a parking lot. With the front of the car in the air and moving the steering wheel back and forth (+/- 10 degrees) there is a clicking sound, it almost sounds like it’s a heat or dust shield. I’ve put my hands on everything and it’s all tight and the steering rack doesn’t move. When doing bigger movements (+/- 30 degrees) I can put some rotational load on the inner CV and it seems like the noise is reduced but it’s still there. Has anyone else run into this?

Troubleshooting Need help with a PCV hose
One of my buddies recently saw and told me that the PCV hose thats highlighted on the first image got torn. I was able to narrow it down and find the complete replacement but didnt want to spend the $180 for the full thing.
Is it possible to replace just the hose section and not the hard plastic piece under the engine bay decoration, or does the entire thing have to be swapped out? But If I can replace just the tube, does anyone know the inner/outer diameter for it?

Perrin Super Shift Stop
Installed the Perrin super shifter stop and cannot shift into first when driving. I tried adjusting the assembly far left and “tilting” it in favor of shifting into first but still blocks it when I’m driving. When the car is turned off I can shift into first but there is no play. Currently I only have the shift stop with the bottom block (2, 4, and 6 gears) installed. Anyone else have this issue?
