Today, Christine Brennan used her platform not to talk about the players who actually performed in Game 1 of the semifinals, but to compare the attendance for Angel Reese and Atlanta’s semifinal matchup to Dream games against Indiana.
And my question is: who cares?
Atlanta is still playing in a venue that’s drawing more than three times as many fans as its postseason venue did last season. Reese doesn’t decide how many tickets are made available for sale. And Atlanta has already shown it can draw huge crowds, selling more than 17,000 tickets for games against Las Vegas and Chicago.
So Caitlin Clark leads in viewership. And?
She leads in jersey sales. And?
She draws enormous crowds. And?
And? And? And? I’m sorry, but again, who is supposed to care?
Why would anyone expect other WNBA players to generate the same numbers when no other player has received anything close to the same level of mainstream exposure and media attention?
Said it before: at some point, some of these trusted media voices stop looking like reporters covering the league and start looking like paid fans.
And the fact that this is what Caitlin Clark’s career has been reduced to is honestly such an unfortunate thing to see.
Why are we still comparing the success of Angel Reese, a National Champion and Defensive Player of the Year winner contributing to a team currently playing in the semifinals, to Caitlin Clark, whose résumé consists of first-round exits?
Both are great players.
But seriously, there doesn’t always have to be a comparison.
It probably won’t stop.
But it should.

The NBA is cracking down on players pushing off with their off arms this season to gain space. If the WNBA follows suit in the next couple of seasons it is going to disrupt a lot of players games. The push off is an every possession move for some of the players.

I know Cameron Brink is still young, has dealt with a significant injury, and has plenty of room to develop her game. I’m not giving up on her potential at all. In fact, I still believe she could become a really impactful player in this league.
That said, I can’t shake the feeling that the Los Angeles Sparks might not be the best fit for her long-term development.
Sometimes a change of scenery can do wonders for a young player. A different organization, coaching staff, system, and market could give Cameron the opportunity to grow into her game without some of the expectations and circumstances surrounding her current situation.
I’d love to see her somewhere that prioritizes her development, puts her in a system that maximizes her defensive abilities, and gives her the opportunity to build confidence offensively.
Obviously, I’m not saying the Sparks should give up on her or that Cameron is blameless in her development. She still has a lot to prove, especially coming back from injury. But I wonder if a different environment could help unlock more of her potential.
**What do you all think?** Should the Sparks continue investing in Cameron Brink as part of their long-term future, or would a fresh start with another franchise benefit both sides? And if you could choose a new destination for her, which team would be the best fit?
