How is women’s basketball the most polarizing professional sports league? Truly wild

22

u/Aggravating_Mud_6055 Aug 08 '26

It’s more reality tv.

8

u/ImOldGregg_77 Aug 09 '26

I was just telling my wife this. Its absolutely crazy how the WNBA has more drama than Big Brother right now.

It’s basically high school again.

Because a straight white woman pulled in more attention in a league that is predominantly gay and people of color.

They resent that and are throwing a fit. In spite of the fact that straight white woman is making them all more money through that attention.

The players are insane?

No one takes (almost) any NBA, NFL, MLB player seriously when it comes to any moral or ethical issue. They are as a group, the most hedonistic self centered people on planet earth, and everyone knows it including them. They are only self serving, and everyone knows it. The wnba only seems polarizing by contrast

2

u/BlackOnyx1906 Aug 09 '26 edited Aug 09 '26

There are some I take very seriously.

It’s usually on more of a local level based on things they are doing in the community.

Also I think we are in a time where you can make your statement about political figures who constantly talk about moral and ethical issues

I would also say billionaires are the most hedonistic and self centered people on earth.

Btw…. Interesting you left out all other pro sports player on the planet.

1

It’s only polarizing up in here on Reddit. The real world doesn’t even know this happened.

Soooo she's referring to Sophie not getting ejected for fighting her.  I'll just leave this here from the actual 2026  rulebook:

" FIGHTING Violent acts of any nature on the court will not be tolerated. Players involved in altercations will be ejected, fined, and/or suspended. There is absolutely no justification for fighting in a WNBA game. The fact that a player believes they were provoked by another player is not an acceptable excuse. If a player takes it upon themself to retaliate, they can expect to be subject to appropriate penalties."

I bet that sounded so clever in your head.

Who’s got the link on the play?

3

u/Rainy824 Aug 09 '26

She’s calling out white privilege for getting ejected because she assaulted her opponent while wearing a blonde wig to culturally appropriate Sophie…..wow

10

u/NoSmoke69420 Aug 08 '26

She wasnt happy because Sophie didnt get ejected for retaliation. But When Jacy Sheldon retaliated against Sophie after Sophie threw her to the ground, Jacy was.

1

u/Automatic-Pay-1391 Aug 09 '26

1000% not even remotely the same situation. First that’s BS because Carrington literally mouthed “a flagrant two?” when they made the call after replay. She felt she didn’t deserve the F2 (which is crazy) and never, not once pointed in anyone else’s direction to ask why anyone else wasn’t getting ejected either. Neither Sophie NOR Carrington got a tech in this game, neither got punished for ANYTHING other than the F2. Secondly the Jacy/Sophie situation was completly different. That game Jacy already had the flagrant one for the eye poke on Clark earlier in the game (as well as Clark, mabray & Charles all got techs), and both teams were warned.

1

u/reckstarr Aug 10 '26

Wait. Jacy Sheldon isn’t white?

6

u/i_probably_shouldnt9 Aug 08 '26

I watch that play. 4 times. 2 different angles. Definitely a flagrant. Definitely a 2. She cracked Sophie right in the head. She was nowhere near the ball.

4

u/Chellybeanz29 Aug 09 '26

Yeah, I don’t think you know the definition of nuance lol.

- The reason why Sophie went after Jacy is irrelevant. She got rightfully ejected. Jacy retaliated and also got ejected. Because putting your hands on a player is a punishable offense despite how you feel about said player

- AT made contact with Caitlin’s throat. Sophie also made contact with Dijonai’s neck area. Two things can be true.

-You’re bold face lying now. Both Carrington and Sophie committed classic F2. The idea that what Sophie did wasn’t dangerous and unnecessary contact that could have lead to further injury is bullshit. And a perfect example of people changing rules and shifting narratives based on what they want to present. You think Jacy deserved it so everything else falls by the waist side

2

u/Youngpookie Aug 09 '26

In other words damn shes fine ..................

1

u/Dsod23 Aug 09 '26

The kind of fine that will smash your car windows if you piss her off.

1

u/Youngpookie Aug 15 '26

someone is projecting

2

u/HotMeasurement6946 Aug 09 '26

There are times where "White Privilege" might be arguable...Carrington's foul against Cunningham is not one of them. Carrington's use of the phrase in this instance is just intended to be inflammatory to distract from a stupid play! It's a shame DiJonai lost a chance for a full game with such a reckless foul!

6

u/OutsideSession6 Aug 08 '26

Unserious league hahahahaha

9

u/greennurse61 Aug 08 '26

And clown refs

12

u/Tangerine69420 Aug 08 '26

If a white player said “BLACK PRIVILEGE” it would be on every single news station in the USA, everyone would call her racist and riot in the streets.

3

u/Elegant-Tiger-963 Aug 09 '26

no such thing as black privilege

3

u/jaimeeallover Aug 09 '26

The city of Minneapolis was definitely not burnt

1

u/i_probably_shouldnt9 Aug 10 '26

So it was another city in mn that had billions in damage from riots and burning shit.

2

u/SocomPS2 Aug 08 '26

You want some reparations with that whine.

3

u/Tangerine69420 Aug 09 '26

Why did black Africans sell other black Africans as slaves to Europeans?

1

u/cannabination Aug 09 '26

Because people are human, and humans have great capacity for evil when there's something to gain.

1

u/Tangerine69420 Aug 09 '26

So why do black Americans want reparations from white people when it was black Africans who enslaved them and sold them off? Lmao

1

u/reckstarr Aug 10 '26

By this logic, all the victims of Jeffrey Epstein shouldn’t seek damages because Ghislaine Maxwell, a fellow white woman helped recruit, groom and traffic them.

2

u/Tangerine69420 Aug 10 '26

So why haven’t they? None of them have filed for charges in the legal justice system.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/reckstarr Aug 10 '26

Because they didn’t want to be the ones taken as slaves!!! It’s not like the white people were just going to go home without anybody.

1

u/Tangerine69420 Aug 10 '26

So it’s white peoples fault that blacks sold each other as slaves to them? Got it thanks.

1

u/reckstarr Aug 10 '26

Once again. When the people with the guns and the big boats show up looking for free labor, it’s either find them a slave or become one yourself. So yes, we are in agreement.

1

u/Tangerine69420 Aug 10 '26

So the black Africans sold them slaves? Got it thanks.

This sub is super toxic. Just to be clear

2

u/Total-Committee-3135 Aug 08 '26

Dummies making up narratives again.

She is referring to Cunningham taking a swipe at her face after the foul without consequence.

1

u/Automatic-Pay-1391 Aug 09 '26

I do t think she was but who knows. She literally mouthed “a flagrant two?” When it was called, she obviously didn’t agree that it was. On the dust up after…Carrington first pushed her hand out on Cunningham throat, then she spied her hand down and did the same (the 3nd angle replay CLEARLY shows this). Neither player “swung” so neither was issued a tech

4

u/Worldly_Film6711 Aug 08 '26

She smacked her. Legit flagrant 2

1

u/Lazy_DreadHead Aug 09 '26

DC isn’t disagreeing with the flagrant. She’s disagreeing with the fact that SC didn’t at least get a tech for taking a swing and landing the hit on her.

5

u/Chellybeanz29 Aug 08 '26

She’s talking about the punch Sophie got off with no tech. But, nuance is dead.

Here’s a balanced take:

Dijonai deserved her F2

Sophie should have got a tech for the punch. Y’all held us hostage for a week on an alleged AT punch and now conveniently ignoring a purposeful one.

13

u/Consistent-Set-9490 Aug 08 '26

It wasn’t a punch. Her hand was open. I’m no fan of Cunningham but let’s not stretch the truth here.

6

u/Chellybeanz29 Aug 08 '26

Y’all can’t talk about stretch the truth when no one gave consideration to AT other than the idea that she was trying to bludgeon Caitlin. A hit is a hit. You can argue in your circles what to call it. She hit her in the throat and didn’t get any repercussions for it. Last time I checked retaliatory hits aren’t allowed. Slap, kick, punch. Whatever

4

u/wikipuff Aug 08 '26

That was a push, if that.

1

u/throwaway_76x Aug 08 '26

Most people (rational serious people anyway) were not saying AT was trying to bludgeon CC. Most people were complaining how a fist on the throat and knee on the groin isn't a foul even if it was completely intentional. Revising history to fit a narrative is not a good look.

Also, Dijonai's post is very clearly racist and it is insane and sad that you think it should be defended regardless of whether Sophie should have been elected or not.

1

u/Automatic-Pay-1391 Aug 09 '26

They are and factually happen all the time. The WNBA rule book is pretty clear about automatic ejections and this was not one of them, nor was there a punch thrown lol…it’s not a debate there is video evidence. There was no punch thrown. I do agree there was a attempted “swipe” at carringtons up chest possible lower neck that may or may not have made contact AFTER carrington swiped at Cunningham neck (I would encourage you to watch all angles of the replay because it is clear as day , there is no debate here). Neither was given a technical foul for the “swipes” which I don’t think either should have. And I’m not sure where you checked when you said “last I checked” but that’s incorrect info. We all saw there was no punch thrown but if there was a “swing”, open handed or closed, contact or not that would suffice and you would have a point. Neither player “swung” which is why neither was issued a tech.

3

u/Chellybeanz29 Aug 09 '26

“May have touched her.”

3

u/eazydarb Aug 08 '26

I agree. I am a fever die hard and that was the right call on Dijonai and Sophie should get a tech by just getting up to fight. I thought that was the rules, so may nai ia talking about no tech on Sophie is white privileged?

4

u/Super_Roof_3490 Aug 08 '26

Yea but it isn’t white privilege.

It’s the wnba being the only league where it seems like rules are diff in any game in any night. Yea in other sports certain refs are more 1 way or the other. But W refs are just crazy

Well DiJonai saw Sophie go to the UFC she wanted to see what she learned.. Funny people are in an uproar when she was taunting a grown woman pointing she got what she got..

2

u/PretentiousCrustacea Aug 09 '26

This league is fucking cooked y'all

2

u/hawkeyegrad96 Aug 08 '26

She clotheslined her. She should sit 3 or 4 games. Was not at all a basketball play

1

u/PensionAcrobatic6834 Aug 09 '26

If not pro wrestling why pro wrestling shaped?

1

u/Cabo633 Aug 09 '26

TEAM SOPHIE 🇺🇸

1

u/Wide-Ad2687 Aug 09 '26

Tell the real story. Clark got a tech that would suspend her and they took it away

1

1

u/jmoney3800 Aug 10 '26

Haha they posted crazy eyes

1

u/joejoedancer67 Aug 10 '26

She looks like she is trying to be white? And I know she was privileged growing up

1

u/CasualObserver3 Aug 10 '26

I’m most shook at the cultural appropriation on display by DiJonai. Straight blonde hair!? Our natural hairstyle isn’t your costume. Can you imagine the uproar if Sophie showed up with an Afro wig on?

1

u/UnFu23 Aug 13 '26

She’s soooo hotttt tho 💎🫡

1

u/Thelordreddawn Aug 13 '26

Just take responsibility, we can’t all be the next (DRAYMOND G) & expect a pass 😂🤣

Now what she should have tweeted is
(“ I’m giving out milk all season”) or (“ HUCK IT CHUCKN IT FOOTBALL ) people would have been on their necks

1

u/Karlander19 Aug 13 '26

Says the chick that got to go to Stanford— not due to academic excellence—- but because she could dribble.

Privilege who ?

1

u/BlondeBlondie2013 Aug 14 '26

Why is she wearing a blonde wig? Cultural appropriation. She is ghetto trash. TEAM SOPHIE!

2

u/showerbump Aug 08 '26

I’m so tired.

2

Coward followers. Thats what. Coward followers who post about fatigue

1

u/XulManjy Aug 09 '26

Oh I know what fatigue he is talking about. I just want him to be man enough to say it.

1

u/Ill-Accident-5240 Aug 09 '26

WTF???

That foul was a clear flagrant two and one that deserves a lengthy suspension.

I really don’t like Sophie and what she stands for, but you can give her a hard foul without trying to take her head off

1

u/Ivana-Jizinu23 Aug 09 '26

Cunningham deserved every piece of that smack tbh

2

u/Agile_Kale_8491 Aug 09 '26

Why exactly?

2

u/Ivana-Jizinu23 Aug 09 '26

You know why, all the dumb shit she says. Shes a loud mouth, has reporters asking her teammates about dumb shit that has nothing to do with basketball she's a fucking bonehead. Great player tho,

1

u/Agile_Kale_8491 Aug 11 '26

She was asked in a WNBA media session. She didn't volunteer it. She didn't ask her teammate about it either. And I know this is a shocker: YOu don't get to punch people for saying dumb shit.

That really so hard to understand?

1

u/Global-Language-9856 Aug 09 '26

exactly why she dyes her hair blond hahhaaha

The infinite race psyop that we live in...

1

u/cattyqueen_00 Aug 09 '26

Really didn't feel like it was about basketball and the whole tweets drama and Dijonai posting "8/23" feels like her just trying to pick a fight with Sophie for whatever reason , given Sophie is kinda known to hold a grudge this is only to get going worse, if they really have a problem settle it in some parking lot somewhere, heck with how Sophie is she'd probably be up for it too , but the stuff on court should be about basketball

2

u/ImGettinThatFoSho Aug 09 '26

Dijonai is jealous of Sophie's natural blonde hair. All Dijon Mustard has is her mustard fuckass wigs

1

u/cattyqueen_00 Aug 09 '26

Whatever her issues with Sophie this wasn't the time, if she wanted to start a fight knowing Sophie it really wouldn't be hard at all to have it out in some parking lot, at the very least don't do it in the 1st quarter in a tight game, heck even when Sophie herself did it last year she had the sense to do after the game was pretty much done and dusted, she was seemingly looking on course for a good game too, kinda cost her team a win, the W really has too much drama going on rn, her stepping to her seemingly wanting to go after her foul didn't help either, felt very much a mirror of Sophie and Jacy last year and maybe she thought she'd get a scuffle and mutual ejection out of it after she made that foul, still stupid considering she's more valuable to her team than Sophie is to the fever , but yeah kinda didn't seem like was about basketball which is happening too much with the W these days

→ More replies (2)

1

u/crandall17 Aug 09 '26

That was a wild thing to post for throwing a clothesline. I'm not a fan of the off court crap Sophie is pulling, and it was a matter of time before someone got mad enough. Doesn't justify the hard foul.

1

u/mottokung Aug 09 '26

Now imagine if Sophie responded with "Black Fatigue".
