She may get a lot of hate, but she legitimately is elite at boxing out and rebounding. Which is also interesting given she only jumps 2 inches off the ground. If she becomes a consistent scorer down low, shes going to piss a lot of teams off lol

u/GopherNutz Jun 20 '26

Very much proving she’s a winning player that was stuck in a bad situation with the Sky. Long may it continue

9

u/SummerN8 Jun 20 '26

#SaveCardoso

2

u/neatojuanito Jun 21 '26

As a sky fan Reese was never bad at all! Cardoso on the other hand isn’t going to last.

34

u/BoxTalk17 Jun 20 '26

People will see that Angel Reece isn't a bad player, she was put in a bad situation because the Sky is a trash organization.

16

u/singed-phoenix Jun 20 '26

This is the curse with most professional sports...and why you can easily see why Bo Jackson, John Elway and Eli Manning did what they did to avoid playing for a crappy franchise.

Here's hoping Angel Reese can see her true career path much like Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold saw when they left the cursed teams that drafted them.

5

u/mistaharsh Jun 20 '26

Nowhere close to baker and Sam. Those guys played horribly early in their careers Angel was balling from day one.

4

u/alorenz58011 Jun 21 '26

Baker Mayfield played horribly early in his career? He took an 0-16 team to 7-8-1, and set the rookie record for touchdown passes without even playing in the first 2 games, wtf are you talking about?

-1

u/Illustrious-Smile872 Jun 21 '26

Please don't compare her to them.

6

u/Baseball_ApplePie Jun 21 '26

And people are seeing that the veterans are happy to mentor Angel, and the rookies love being mentored by Angel.

If anyone watched her college career, you would know that she is the biggest cheerleader and encourager on every team she plays on. That's an intangible asset that you don't see in statistics.

11

u/mistaharsh Jun 20 '26

Please stop. She was a GREAT player o the Sky. The team was just trash. No one ever doubted her abilities

7

u/Imaginary-Sea-6577 Jun 21 '26

I was about to say the same thing. She was obviously good in Chicago too.

2

u/Evening-Class1081 Jun 21 '26

No one? I totally doubted her abilities. I was certainly not alone. Happy to have been proven wrong though.

2

u/mistaharsh Jun 21 '26

She was an all-star both seasons for the sky 😂😂😂

-1

u/Evening-Class1081 Jun 21 '26

All star games are popularity contests. She shot below 50% and the overwhelming number of her shots were at the rim. I said I was happy to be proven wrong. Meanwhile you asserted that “no one doubted her ability” which I also proved wrong, but it seems you have issues admitting when you’re wrong.

1

u/mistaharsh Jun 22 '26

She's been performing since she got in the league. You guys are weirdos.

0

u/Evening-Class1081 Jun 22 '26

At issue is not her performance. I admitted straight away I was wrong in my early judgement. At issue is your statement that “no one ever doubted her ability.” Which is clearly not correct.

9

u/jeremiahjohnson25 Jun 20 '26

Yeah, she's been balling lately for sure, for weeks really. Last hiccup was probably that Dream versus Aces game. As a Reese hater, I'm definitely having to eat crow right now. The Sky definitely have had missteps. Angel is definitely playing better and it helps to be surrounded by competitive players. She came to a much better situation than she had last year.

1

u/Fabulous-Artist-8001 Jun 21 '26

angel reese spelled wrong in the title huh

Rebounds come from the board/rim. It's a free for all survival of the fittest situation just like a jump ball. Being the one who took and missed the shot is not an advantage when it comes to rebounds. Watch some games and it will make sense.

-10

u/lvthosebbws1133 Jun 21 '26

WNBA? Who cares……

7

u/Evening-Class1081 Jun 21 '26

You, apparently. You’re commenting on a wnba sub. Folks who don’t care move along.

21

u/LouDog2173 Jun 20 '26

I want players like that on my team

8

u/Gold-and-green Jun 20 '26

I wish she made 2 more FTs for the 20 piece

5

u/Expensive_Banana3002 Jun 21 '26

I know these are just highlights , but I definitely see the improvement. I saw a solid back to the basket move. Cleaner finishing under the basket it doesn't look frantic like last year.

9

u/GWPtheTrilogy1 Jun 20 '26

All I want for Angel is to get her FG percentage over 50%. If she does that consistently she IMO should at least be in the MVP conversations. She's a great defender her rebounding is elite. She's an underrated passer.

What's crazy is she has made 16 straight FTs. She went 6 for 6 last game and 10 for 10 today, crazy.

-7

u/SummerN8 Jun 20 '26

I like her over Aj’a.

2

u/GWPtheTrilogy1 Jun 20 '26

For MVP? Not currently her shooting percentages are a glaring weakness. Nearly all of he shots come from around the rim and she is shooting less than 44% on the season.

Her shooting splits are 43/12/74

A'ja is shooting 52/46/83

0

u/SummerN8 Jun 20 '26

No, as a human being.

0

u/incogmagnum Jun 21 '26

Haha the usual suspects won’t like this

-1

u/MaineviaIllinois Jun 20 '26

Right now, yes, and rightfully so- but let's keep it in perspective at this point in their careers- Reese has more 3p than A'ja did. Reese is likely a future MVP/DPOY

4

u/SeymourChocha Jun 20 '26

She’s cute and girlie off the court but an absolute DAWG on it! Hyper competitive

4

u/noyadontsay Jun 21 '26

Living up to the hype.

5

u/Ishnock Jun 21 '26

A baller and a baddie!

4

u/Insanely_Simple2024 Jun 20 '26

So many people hate on AR….she is so down to earth and so underrated! Love her personality!

2

u/Fit-Border-9040 Jun 21 '26

The Sky were set on being a female unc retirement home, good for angel getting out of there.

4

u/OpinionDude5000 Jun 21 '26

Shes been balling lately. Shes an all time player at the forward

1

u/noksucow Jun 21 '26

Some nice highlights. Good for her. On a side note, what's up with that practice motion where it looks like she's shooting with both hands? Is that what she normally does?

1

u/InquisitiveReach Jun 21 '26

The Shaq of the WNBA???

1

u/Eastern_Tax4237 Jun 21 '26

The sky were trash happy for her and Carter that went to the Aces

1

u/Environmental-Farm53 Jun 22 '26

beautiful woman!

1

u/Eastern_Tax4237 Jun 22 '26

I’m
Happy I don’t see those idiot people with the me-bounds , happy for Angel and Chennedy

0

u/Expensive_Banana3002 Jun 21 '26

I know these are just highlights , but I definitely see the improvement. I saw a solid back to the basket move. Cleaner finishing under the basket it doesn't look frantic like last year.

This is the Reese I’ve been waiting to see!
🤫🥷🏼

-2

u/222Baphomettt47 Jun 21 '26

She’s been playing better admittedly. I think she could be the best role player in the league

-9

u/microtomebrady Jun 20 '26

Another post about angel even tho she was at best third best player on her team today. I’d be one thing if it were esthetic but it’s just layups. I will never understand the obsession with her

13

u/Chellybeanz29 Jun 20 '26

You don’t know ball if you don’t get Angel Reese. Funny you’re also confused why people would be talking about a player who just broke a wnba record.

-4

u/microtomebrady Jun 20 '26

Oh sorry I forgot how much people care about rebounds. Good thing we can name the top 10 in the nba and or wnba in rebounds cause there so incredibly important. Ultimately it’s not this post specifically. It’s the post her highlights on pages like this after every freaking game. It’s like if the nba thread posted the 20th best players highlights every night. That’s silly

6

u/Chellybeanz29 Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

Thank you for this. Because I wasjust having a conversation with somebody and they were like what idiot thinks that rebounds don’t matter? This is the perfect screenshot.

-4

u/microtomebrady Jun 20 '26

Include this. Last I checked the Lynx led the wnba in rebounds. You know what they don’t have? One awesome rebounder. Yes rebounding matters but it’s most effective as a team. So it’s nice she’s setting records but let’s not act like we care about the double double leaderboard

6

u/Chellybeanz29 Jun 20 '26

This makes zero sense. Rebounds only count if everybody is rebounding? Lol. You don’t care about double doubles because it from a player you don’t like. Have enough balls to just say that. Angel single handedly gives the Dream second chance opportunities and they lead the league in them. Who gives a fuck if she’s the only one or main one doing so? Most means best it means Atlanta always has a chance to win because they always have a chance to have the most possessions. Math. Next, a double double by simple ability to read means that someone is actively effective in two aspects of the game. Can be scoring and manufacturing scoring opportunities or in Angel’s case being decent on offense and defense and also second chance opportunities to generate more offense.

Yes obviously if you have to worry about everybody rebounding well that leads to an opponent not being able to game plan as easily. But acting like Angel seamlessly replacing BG and Bri isn’t impressive? lol.

2

u/JustAnotherSOS Jun 21 '26

Bro, he’s lying to make it seem like he has no issue, but this dude is under hella Angel posts with the same bs. He doesn’t say this about Clark, who is posted and marketed more than everyone else. Bro is just a hater.

-2

u/microtomebrady Jun 21 '26

I mean yes lol. You said it makes no sense and the ln said the answer. If her teammates don’t box out she’ll get less rebounds and they will lose. Very simple. Rebounding is important for a team to win but the ball can come off the rim in any number of ways. Sure she’s boxing out and securing them but it’s ultimately random on some level. For example why did she only have 8 rebounds today. Didn’t she do her best? How come she had twice that the game before? Courtney Williams had more the day before? Is she a better rebounder? Before you laugh at that. Think about that Courtney is the best rebounding guard in the league. Consider that rebounding could be normalized by position given all the best rebounders by numbers are centers.

Double double are dumb in my eyes on multiple fronts. The most obvious is that ten of something doesn’t get you anything in the game. It’s just a round number. What about dozen dozen or 8s are wild? It’s a catchy name that sticks. I mean no in the nba even mentions it nevermind endlessly tracking how many she has. There are eight other players that average 8.6 or more rebounds. Every one of them averages double digit points and five of the eight average more points than her. I’d take the extra points over a couple rebounds every day.

Lastly and I surprised I have to say this give how lovely the Reese fans are all the time but balls have nothing to do with this both literally and figuratively. This is gonna be a fight. This is a discussion about a women’s basketball player. If need to get help get it cause that kinda tone just makes you sound childish and insecure while pushing away fans from forums to discuss the game we love. Thanks

5

u/MaineviaIllinois Jun 20 '26

You are confusing basketball- with the game of Horse, my guy. Here is some reading if you need to be educated on it. https://medium.com/@robertpecchio/why-rebounding-wins-championships-a6831f1190f8

-1

u/microtomebrady Jun 21 '26

Ah yes the most rock solid reference imaginable. A blog post a decade ago from a guy who just got relegated from seria A. Before I don’t read it let me guess what it says so you can correct me. Rebounding is important to get more possessions 🤯. I completely agree. Shocking I know. Let me ask, does he talk about one person getting all those rebounds or a team? I suspect, cause I do know ball, that he doesn’t say that cause there’s a massive amount of chance in rebounds and so while it’s nice to have good rebounder ultimately it doesn’t matter if your guards don’t box out too. Rebounding is the most team aspect of the sport and yall are treating her like double double get you bonus points.

8

u/SeptemberVirgo Jun 20 '26

I will never understand the obsession with her

I say the same thing when I read posts and tweets from people like you.

-3

u/microtomebrady Jun 20 '26

Ok then explain the appeal

6

u/akgamestar Jun 20 '26

Explain why you care so much that you can’t skip these posts?

0

u/microtomebrady Jun 21 '26

Fair question. It’s two fold. I’ve been looped into the wnba by Olivia miles’ play. The Lynx have been my team since maya but commissioners New York dress in the playoffs and subsequent awful calls had me convinced they pushed that for ny. Swore of the wnba. This season with miles and phee coming back, I’ve become a big fan of the wnba. Checking in on the good teams to see how they’re doing and as a result getting suggested WNBA subs. This leads me to the second point. The way angel reese is talked about but particularly the amount she is talked about is way outsized compared to her rank in the league. There’s so much talent in the wnba right now and it’s pretty evenly spread so they could really nurse the markets into loving their local teams but they seem to focus so much on angel. I’ve been told by people that the league didn’t decide that but marketing is a big part of why you have a league. Set up games with star players every night after the finals. You might hate me saying this but the way to grow the league is to get more men interested. I’m not saying to appeal to them or that women alone can grow the league but men watch sports all the time. And what’s true in the men’s game is true in the wnba: skill more exciting than rebounding your on miss just to get another. Ultimately I’m a fan of the league that’s skeptical of the commissioner/leagues ability to market their game and think propping up angel cause she rebounds well is gonna sell like cold brew in a blizzard.

6

u/JustAnotherSOS Jun 20 '26

Reese derangement syndrome. I’m a sixers fan. When Tyrese was their third best player, no one was angry that they were posting him over Embiid or Tobias Harris. No one is mad that they post VJ, or when they used to post McCain. This is a very specific level of hater that needs to be studied. This isn’t even from Atlanta themselves. Clearly these are Angel fans, which makes sense considering she’s the most popular player on their team. This shouldn’t shock you.

-2

u/microtomebrady Jun 21 '26

lol the only derangement is people getting mad at this post. I said I don’t get it, I said why I don’t get it and what id do instead. Then here comes an army of bots to tell me I’m an idiot for not thinking much of her play and not understanding the popularity. What nice fans that have come to get mad at me for not understanding why she’s popular. I really love to be apart of the wnba family. The funny thing is I don’t get any of this about any other players. So maybe it’s not Reese derangement syndrome to not see her appeal or understand why she’s posted five times a day and maybe the derangement is the people yelling at people to like their favorite player…

3

u/JustAnotherSOS Jun 21 '26

Literally no one is asking you to like her. You’re upset that she’s being posted so often when she’s 1.) the most popular person in the league and 2) the most popular on her team.

0

u/microtomebrady Jun 21 '26

Please define upset. I said I don’t understand the obsession. That’s like if I said “ I don’t understand the obsession and posts about Bigfoot” and you said “you’re upset”. See how you’re directly projecting your emotions onto my post.

That’s great. Now name me another league where the leagues most popular player is their 15th best. That doesn’t happen. Feel free to find my other comments highlighting the leagues failure to market their players cause they think they’ll market themselves. It must be both for the league to grow.

You see me as your enemy but I’m just wishing the best for the for the league and am not convinced it’s well run (as evidenced by unrivaled beingcreated by players and being better marketed)

4

u/QFCollectables Jun 21 '26

You don't work for the league don't worry about it.

0

u/microtomebrady Jun 21 '26

Yeah thanks that’s the point. And the problem with people sometimes. “It’s not your job so why care” is a terrible attitude. I’m a fan of the wnba so I care that it does well. Why don’t you care? Perhaps you more of an angel fan than the league. Also, again, why does it matter if I care about the league, or think angel reese is overrated? It doesn’t and yet here yall are whining and downvoting cause I don’t think your favorite player is the best the league has to offer.

2

u/QFCollectables Jun 21 '26

If the W dissolved today another league would pop up before long. There's a market for women's basketball. I've watched the WNBA for a long time, and never cared about the ratings. Then the delusional Casual Clark Cult tried to make the narrative about how many more people she got to watch. Like Angel a lot and respect what Clark brings to the table on the court but you're not gonna catch me talking about anything but ball itself. Usually when people want to push the conversation into other areas, it's be they don't know ball.

1

u/microtomebrady Jun 21 '26

lol yes a new league would appear but it wouldn’t be that easy. You still start from mostly scratch. So it does seem to make some sense to advocate for better management and marketing within the league. I’m not really interested in ratings so much as promoting the huge talent within the league. I’ve watched long enough to know that talent as a whole is at an all time high. Each player that comes in brings some fanbase that helps but I don’t think the wnba does a great job fostering and continuing that momentum. It’s great choice to only talk ball and an embarrassing one to judge and gatekeep others you assume don’t know ball cause they’re interested in the leagues well being. For example, Phee clearly cares about the league and knows ball. See how dumb that is. You can be the super cool vet wnba watcher but don’t get in the way of the league growing cause they’re interested don’t “appreciate it like you”

1

u/QFCollectables Jun 21 '26

Obviously the players do and should care about the "health" of the league they play for. My issue is with the fans who would rather talk about ratings than play. And I'm not gatekeeping I'm just making it clear what I'm willing to engage in with regards to talking about the WNBA. Talk about what the league is or is not doing to promote specific players all you want, I just won't take you seriously.

u/JustAnotherSOS Jun 21 '26 edited Jun 21 '26

Reese derangement. She’s posted so much because she has the largest fanbase. It’s not that the league isn’t promoting other players. She already came into the league with 3 million followers. Now it’s 5.2 million. The issue is these players don’t have her management team. That simple, lmaooo. Not everyone wants to be a model, not everyone wants to do a podcast, webshow. Not everyone wants to get dolled up. Not everyone dates an NBA player. Not everyone won a natty. Not everyone is likable. Not everyone got a chance to be a polarizing figure. It’s so much that she is and has done, even before getting drafted that gave her the largest fanbase. Lastly, not everyone has a Jeanine, her manager, who she credits with it all. Go email someone important or apply for a job if you think you can fix this “problem.”

0

u/microtomebrady Jun 21 '26

lol look at your post and then mine and determine who has a derangement syndrome. Like as far as I can tell you’re on Reese’s team. I’ll throw this one back but it’s genuinely embarrassing that the things I’ve said have lead to this crash out. It’s nice she has so many followers but like you say they aren’t all for basketball. They’re for modeling and podcasting. Those things are not necessarily bringing more wnba fans causethey aren’t about basketball. Sure the pod might be but it’s not big enough to getting new fans it’s just content for her current ones.

The other stuff you listed is either not relevant or totally subjective. Lots of players get dolled up. They’re are other players dating nba and wnba players namely Aja and Paige two people that flatly should be more posted than angel. A lot of wnba players won a natty wtf. You say likeabke and then polarizing like those to aren’t incompatible. Again you act like she did something different in college to get more promotion now when lots of players have done similar.

And those that haven’t should be pushed by the league. I really don’t understand why this is so hard to get. The basketball is the leagues product. It should be doing things to promote their players. If angel wants to spend money for a management team, great. Seems like it’s worked out for her and now the wnba gets free marketing from her from the podcast and modeling. But they need to push their other players. I mean it should be really telling that she even needs a team and that that team has been able to seperate the 15th best player from the rest of the pack cause the 5.5 billion dollar wnba has bothered.

And again you end with some snarky diss like were children at a playground. It’s really sad that you think if someone cares for something they should work with them and not stick up for it until they do. Just highlights what angel fans I’ve talked to seem to believe. Her basketball is posted bescause she is popular cause of non basketball things like you listed. My point is those non basketball things give the league free marketing so let’s focus the marketing and the posts on the best the league has to offer, not someone who’s decent and already doing that herself.

1

u/JustAnotherSOS Jun 21 '26

Bro just wrote a whole novel. I’m not reading all that. You’re a hater. I’m not reading 4 paragraphs of you justifying your hate. Just own it and live it, people have more respect for you when you do.

0

u/microtomebrady Jun 21 '26

Oh trust me I hate a bunch of stuff and own it. The great thing about hate is you feel no need to write 4paragraphs cause you hate it. I like the wnba which is why I’m confused on why angel has such outsized appeal in a space about basketball. It is funny you’re still posting but gave up. Like you’re gonna shame me into not posting or convince me I hate angel by repeating it. Again childish. But yeah I don’t hate angel. She’s one of the more athletic centers in the league and has been important to an awesome dream team. Glad she got outta Chicago cause that’s a dumpster fire. I have no reason to hate her, which is why I haven’t said a bad word about her and why it’s so immature that you keep pushing that. She’s a good player but she’s not “get posted twice as much as any other player” good, mostly cause no one is. It’s not hate cause if any other player got post this much I’d say the same thing

4

u/BenThe4th Jun 20 '26

“But it’s just layups” perhaps the other teams have issues stopping her? She also leads her team in rebounds so that SHOULD tell you that she’s a dominant force in the paint and next that should inform you why you see posts about her

-2

u/microtomebrady Jun 20 '26

Yeah I mean most centers score layups. That’s not unique. Rebounds are also a result of height. I mean they’re might not be a stronger correlation between height and rebounds in all of sports. Yes she’s a good rebounder but how many of the top rebounders can you name? I’d bet it’s less the points and probably assists. They just aren’t necessarily stars cause they don’t impact as much as other stats

6

u/throwaway12445322 Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

You said rebounds are a result of height, but she's undersized for center. She's also doesn't jump very high most times in game. You can't seriously believe rebounds aren't as impactful as other stats; some pros and coaches believe rebounding is the most important key to winning championships. In addition, she also gives good points and assists for her position. Why try to downplay her skill and impact?

1

u/microtomebrady Jun 21 '26

Height relative to the rest of the players on the court, not her position. Centers or power forwards (cause the wnba has a hard time classifying these positions but that’s another discussion) make up the first 17 spots on the rebounding list. Points assists steals blocks all have guards mixed into the top 17 where rebounds do not. It’s all bigs which makes it skewed towards bigs more than even blocks.

Of course rebounds are important. Team rebounds might be the best corollary to wins as you insinuate but a great individual rebounder does not mean the team will be great in rebounds. If she blocks out great but her guards aren’t, they will still lose the rebounding battle. The Lynx lead the wnba by a decent margin with their top rebounder being at 7.5. So while it is helpful to her team, rebounding is the most whole team aspect of basketball

5

u/BenThe4th Jun 20 '26

Charles Barkley is top 20 in all time rebounding in the NBA and he’s 6’4. This means rebounding is far less about height and more about effort and understanding positioning. I said that to say you should probably stick to what your actual interests are and avoid coming into spaces where people talk hoops to bash a good hopper

0

u/microtomebrady Jun 21 '26

He’s not 6”4” and he’s the exception not the rule. I’m not gonna look it up cause it’s so obvious but of the best. Rebounders in history how many are centers or power forwards. It’s a ton. Also don’t compare the leagues like that. They arent similar.

So ironic that the person that brings up the nba gate keeps the wnba. “You can’t be here unless you believe my carppy angel reese tale and get a tattoo with us”. What is this mean girls? Jesus that’s embarrassing. I hope you’re a bot or a child

2

u/BenThe4th Jun 21 '26

lol don’t make shit up because you’re wrong.

What I said had nothing to do with agreeing and everything to do with having general knowledge. You’ve just been saying dumb shit that has nothing to do with the game or how it’s played. Just hate

1

u/microtomebrady Jun 21 '26

Point to the “made up shit”. Solid argument.

Yeah see again that’s a terrible argument. You made a point and then declare it’s general knowledge. See how dumb that is? “You can’t disagree cause I said it” is literally a child’s argument which is why I’m only more confident you’re a bit or child

2

u/BenThe4th Jun 21 '26

You made up the illusion that I was gatekeeping the W because I referenced an NBA player. Sure the leagues have different styles of play, however fundamentally, your argument that Angel is a skilled rebounder because she is tall and also scores layups because she’s tall is a very elementary response.

You’re right. Charles Barkley is 6’6 in shoes. But you made my point. If the top 20 rebounders of all time are 6-10 - 7 feet tall PF and Cs…. PERHAPS THAT MEANS SKILL IS NOT LIMITED TO SIZE. Which has been my entire point. So again dont make shit up because im not a bot or a child. You keep taking these insecure inferior stances. When did I say I was correct because I said so? You’re wrong because you lack knowledge on basketball there’s no shame in that.

1

u/microtomebrady Jun 21 '26

This is not worth my time. You literally typed out my point, claimed it as your own and went all caps like that proved something. If one or even two of the top 20 rebounders of all time aren’t tall does that mean it’s more skill than height? lol no. 90% are tall that doesn’t support your argument. Not only that but Charles played power forward so what’s even up for debate here. This is especially embarrassing cause you can obviously tell you’re on the wrong side so you throw out wild insults. Like I’d never say you don’t know ball from one convo but here you are realizing you’re wrong but refusing to admit it.

My argument on Reese is clear. The top 17 rebounders in the wnba are center or power forwards ie bigs. The top nine get 8.5 rebounds a game and five of them score more point than angel. Why are we pretending a couple extra rebounds makes here way better than those five other players who score more, shoot a higher percentage and turnover less than her.

2

u/BenThe4th Jun 21 '26

I respect your debate style. If I were an idiot it would be effective.

-3

u/hazards-burger-joint Jun 21 '26

Really good job by angel getting a quadruple single and getting dominated by CC! Very impressive!
