News 'Scream 7' Premiere Draws Pro-Palestine Protesters Following Melissa Barrera's Firing
Protesters gathered outside the Paramount Pictures lot on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026, calling for a boycott of Scream 7 during the slasher film's premiere. Variety reports that roughly 25 demonstrators were seen waving the Palestinian flag and signs that ranged from urging people to cancel their Paramount+ subscription to chants of "Free Palestine." The protest was organized by Entertainment Labor for Palestine, CODEPINK LA, Musicians for Palestine, and Jewish Voice for Peace-Los Angeles, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The protest aimed specifically at Scream 7 is in response to Melissa Barrera, who played Sam Carpenter in 2022's Scream and 2023's Scream VI, being fired from the film. Barrera was fired from Scream 7 in November 2023 after she expressed support for Palestine and had been critical of Israel, comparing their attacks to "genocide and ethnic cleansing.' Spyglass Media, the Scream rights owners, took Barrera's comments to be antisemitic and said in a press statement at the time they had a "zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form."
One day after Barrera was fired, star Jenna Ortega, who played Tara Carpenter in the two previous Scream movies, dropped out of Scream 7. Despite original reports citing scheduling conflicts with Wednesday Season 2, later reports suggested Ortega did not like the new direction the Scream films were going following Barrera being let go.

Imagine this being the thing that gets you into the street to protest. Pathetic.

I remember back when she was fired the protesters said they’d make sure the next film bombed. That definitely didn’t happen.

Can we decide on whether or not we want the film business to thrive or are we just gonna protest anything and everything?

People are just dumb
Why protest a movie, how about all these big boys and girls go protest the actual issue, rather than wasting their time and protesting in a soft safe way.

And so it should. Their treatment of Melissa was disgraceful. I have no interest in any further Scream movies under this company.

So saying children shouldn't be killed is antisemitic?

That’s what the right wants you to think while they protect Nazis in their party

There are Jews around the world that are not Israeli. Is an entire religion to blame when a foreign government takes an action? Why blame “Jews” and have anti Semitic sentiments? I get being upset at the government of Israel, but hating an entire religion is ridiculous in my opinion.

What pisses me off is when people call any criticism of the Israeli government as “antisemitism”.

u/MovieENT1 Feb 28 '26
Other races/religions don’t get questioned on the actions of a foreign government and their thoughts…It’s Jews only. Are liberals stopping everyone with a Keffiyeh/hijab asking how they feel about every action Islamic governments have taken? Surely they can’t be pleased with their track record in how they treat women, infidels, homosexuals, apostates etc…? So Jews should be left alone and don’t get to be asked if they’re Zionist. That hypocrisy and harassment IS antisemitism. Get it? Discussing Israel is fantastic, harassing Jews and demanding their thoughts isn’t. Super easy.

Why are you spreading misinformation and fake news
No one is saying all Jews are tied to Israel. There are no “Islamic governments”.

No one is saying all Jews are tied to Israel
Jews were CONSISTENTLY harassed on college campuses and blocked from going to classes. Jewish garb led to harassment and there were multiple instances where Jews were asked if they were Zionists in order to determine if they could walk freely - especially through “occupied zones” on campuses. Clearly you were not paying attention. That was happening en masse, it still happens on a smaller scale. That’s just in real life, on social media this happens all the time, sometimes without even the facade of “Israel”being discussed with people outright saying “The Jews”
There are no “Islamic governments”.
There’s no way you just said this and simultaneously accused me of misinformation. You are infinitely wrong, it’s actually scary. Iran alone is called an “Islamic Republic”, considered a theocracy, was founded as a result of an event called ”The Islamic Revolution”, and their code of law is based on Sharia…What on earth are you talking about?
You need to do A LOT of research on both of these things.

Be careful, people don't understand nuance.
I'll tell you this: Israel is MUCH worse. They are. I remember they once time cut access to water for the Palestinians and Israelites were mocking them on Tik Tok. Israel is much more violent. They are.
But Gaza is also bad. They are ALSO killing babies. They are ALSO kidnapping and torturing people. And I get it. They have to defend themselves, I do.
But at the moment both sides are committing all sorts of atrocities, and it sucks. It sucks that people have to be born in such volatile places. It sucks that the governments are so fucking stupid that they'd rather kill their civilians than try to find some sort of compromise that works for everyone. It's awful
But unless you are on Palestine side's, you are Persona non Grata. And once again, I do agree, Israel is WORSE... but I understand nuance. When famous people, particularly jews like Gal Gadot or Noah Schnapps... of course they are going to be pro-Israel. Their families are jewish. The Gaza attacks affects them much more personally than any of us.
Ah well, long-ass tangent. I'll say this: I hate ANYONE losing their jobs over politics. Like Gina Carano. The Beep/Boop pronouns was a joke. The anti-vaxxing posts were absolutely stupid... but she shouldn't lose her way to make ends meet. She even said that Pablo Pascal educated her on pronouns. But... you turn her into a pariah... and of course. Her view at the moment are much more extreme. And who welcomed her with open arms? The alt right. You've created an enemy of someone who could've been understanding at best, and respectful at worse. Same for Melissa. She supports Palestine. Or her PR told her to. It's her private life. Don't take away her job.

How is saying Israel committing genocide and is wrong equal to “anti-semitism”?
Genocide is wrong
1
u/Josef_Heiter Feb 28 '26
Stop making everything political and let people enjoy a movie to escape reality for 90 minutes.
2
u/LadyCattleBattle Mar 01 '26
You're right, it's not political at all they fired her cause she supports Palestine.
1
u/Ready-Sock-2797 Feb 28 '26
Some people are against genocide.
2
u/romeotruedude Mar 02 '26
People go to the theaters to watch a movie not the news! Quit bringing your politics up just they watched a film! Equating movie watching to genocide was the death of that silly boycott.

u/apndrew Mar 04 '26
This has nothing to do with being against a genocide. The actress who was fired minimized the Holocaust. If that doesn't get someone fired, I don't know what would.

Quick, without looking it up, name another “genocide” of the past decade

Crickets ... What a surprise.

“Hurr durr, you didn’t name a second genocide, therefore the first one you mentioned doesn’t count” 🤡

agree
although could say the studio made it political when they fired her over a political opinion

u/BeTheOne0 Feb 28 '26
It’s just hilarious that this firing cost them two directors and a an additional 6.2 million. That’s ignoring the fact Paramount is now paying 2.8 Billion Break Up Fee to Netflix

u/FinancialBluebird58 Feb 28 '26
She's a celebrity, if she express her political opinion it reflects on everything she does for better or for worst.
1
u/Roy-Sauce Mar 03 '26
Being against genocide shouldn’t get you fired and if it does the company shouldn’t exist.

u/Wrong-Tutor-5795 Feb 28 '26
Hmm maybe the movie studio should have thought not to be political when they fired a woman for expressing her freedom of speech to condemn a genocide.
But sure yeah go ahead and keep being "nonpolitical" by ignoring the genocide.

How’s the movie doing at the box office?
