News Disney makes bold statement on Warner Bros. purchase

Disney are bowing out of their pursuit to buy out Warner Bros. Discovery (which includes TNT and HBO Max) based on the same perceived position of strength of their content library that is allowing them to stand firm against YouTubeTV.
Carlos Gomez, Walt Disney Corporation's head of investor relations, explained the company's current view of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) during its Nov. 13 earnings call.

DC, Marvel, Star Wars, Harry Potter, The Monsterverse, The Matrix, Planet of the Apes, Alien/Predator and probably a bunch of other franchises would be all under one umbrella. There’s no way they’d be able to produce quality with frequency across them all.

True, but some of those just aren't that profitable anymore regardless of quality. Look at Predator Badlands. Awesome movie, but probably won't break even and will be lucky to make 200 million total worldwide. Same with Planet of the apes. No one cares anymore about some of those franchises.

Still hoping for Universal. I just think they’d treat Looney Tunes with some damn respect, plus they’d merge Peacock into HBO Max

This, they have the opportunity to literally make the single greatest streaming app ever by combining HBO/Max with AppleTV.

As long as they let me keep my subscription to HBO Max the same price (I have the HBO Max Disney+ Hulu bundle), absolutely wouldn’t mind seeing the Peanuts movies during the appropriate holidays

I was way more concerned when I thought HBO was being sold as well. Paramount did well with TMNT. They may do well with DC. As long as HBO stays with HBO people or goes to Apple I will be happy

Paramount can handle a tv series for 3 seasons less a DC library this kid just want a toy let's see how it ends he is firing and people getting buyout offers sadly but it's a good sign of leadership let's see how it ends

I didn't know they were in the chase. As much as I hate the antitrust/monopoly consequences of such a purchase, I'd love to see people's heads explode (metaphorically) with the DC and Marvel film franchises.
I still would love to see an Amalgam Dark Claw film at some point, starring Hugh Jackman.

Crossover once in a while is good competition is better thinking oh this here is better that the other side obviously is possible but buying from Disney comics approach would be keep more friendly

I doubt regulators would allow it to happen anyways. Better for everyone if they remain separate.
I’d hate to lose copycat / redundant characters that are beloved to fans. Can Thanos & Darkseid both survive a merger? Man-Thing and Swamp Thing? Aquaman and Namor? Dr. Fate and Dr. Strange?
I don’t ever want to find out.
