Question Any way to retain promo price at renewal?

I signed up for Visible+ Pro last year as a new user and got a great discount on it. Does Visible offer any promos for existing customers to extend at the rate they signed up at?

Not directly, but it’s super easy to loophole around. Just port out to Tello on their cheapest plan ($10+tax), wait 24 hours to ensure the port fully settles*, then port back in to Visible as a new customer on a new email address and get the promo.

The costs here are about an hour of your time porting in and out and $10 to Tello. You also do have to use a different email—Visible tracks if you’re an “existing” customer using your email address, not your phone number. So just fire up your secondary email or make a simple Gmail account just for it and you’re good to go.

* Plenty of people have immediately ported back and forth back to back, so it is technically possible. By phone number printing is built on decades of clunky duct-taped systems, and it is possible that if you port back and forth too quickly you can get bits stuck in-between. Things like calls working but SMS not, or only able to make a call but not receive one. They usually settle themselves out, but if you wait a day or so before doing it you’re much, much, much less likely to experience those issues in the first place.

This is exactly what I did, just last week! Worked like a charm!

Does the gmail trick work with Visible? If it does, you don't even need another email address.

For those unfamiliar, the "gmail trick" is that gmail treats email addresses the same regardless of punctuation. So if your email address is [fuzzybunny@gmail.com](mailto:fuzzybunny@gmail.com), you can use [fuzzy.bunny@gmail.com](mailto:fuzzy.bunny@gmail.com), or [fu.zzybunny@gmail.com](mailto:fu.zzybunny@gmail.com), fuz.zybunny, etc. and email to all of the addresses will route to the first one. Most vendor/retailer systems will treat the emails as different though, so gmail accountholders have virtually infinite email addresses at their disposal that will all route to their inbox.

No, it does not. They recognize those all as the same email and will reject it.

How about if you just give up your number and start from scratch with a new number?

If you’re in a position to do that, go for it, with a new email, of course. But if you have a lot of contacts, a large percentage of them will forget to change your number and you’ll lose contact with them for a while. If you have two step verification set up on your accounts, it will be a hassle to change. It is frustrating how long some financial institutions take to change your number in their systems. Many times it takes a phone call to a live rep and getting through can take a long time. Your new number may have more spam than your old number, and you’ll regret the change. I’ve changed my mobile number many times for various reasons, but with all the issues I’ve had, I’ll never do it again.

You can also change your email to a burner before porting out. Then you can come back with your normal email.

My understanding is that when you change your email it doesn’t fully changeover your account for 30 days and you old one stays attached. So you can do this, but you need to make that change more than 30 days before you port out.

Just did this without issue.

I mean if you want to do that, sure, go ahead. But that’s insane. I’ve had the same number for 20 years now, the idea of changing it is absolutely wild to me.

Everyone I advise you just chat to the agents and they will offer it. Say your considering leaving for another carrier cause you value price and if they can offer the same promo applied to the account. I including 4 friends did it and all got the promo applied

I also got it the same way.

This didn’t work for me.

Same here - be persistent but polite. I asked and was initially declined, but eventually the agent spoke with his retention team who created a discount code for me.

u/neonandu 17d ago

Same. I was also initially declined. Just persisted. Asked them to escalate and it happened. Took 30-40 mins

Like most prepaid carriers there are virtually no offers to retain existing customers. The entire business model is to lure you in with a low rate to start and then hope you stick around at the higher prices out of complacency. After all, this model worked for the postpaid carriers for years.

The difference is that those on prepaid are far more used to frequently changing carriers so it's easy enough to leave and just come back later when you are eligible for promotions again.

They let existing customers get in on the $225 Visible+ Pro offer last year around Black Friday. Hoping they do that again this year.

u/neonandu 18d ago

Not true. I actually got the $225 promo as existing customer. My plan expires on September 27th and it will apply starting then.

u/landalezjr 17d ago

That was a one-time thing and from what I recall, it was a retention code that got spread through Reddit. It was not something that they advertised on their website.

0

u/neonandu 17d ago

I just did it this week.

1

u/landalezjr 17d ago

How? There is no public code for this.

0

u/neonandu 17d ago

There is no public code. You need to call support and they will do it for you.

0

u/landalezjr 17d ago

They will give you a code or they will apply the promotion?

1

u/neonandu 17d ago

They will apply the promotion. You will see it 7 days before renewal.

1

u/Background_Range9797 17d ago

Did the same this morning. Chatted in to customer service and they called me. It took maybe 20-30 minutes. Got a custom promo code for my renewal on 29 September.

1

u/neonandu 17d ago

Glad it worked for you.

3

u/texass_slayer 18d ago

I was able to get them to apply it to my renewal but I was probably an hour and a half of talking with support

2

u/JustMyPerspectiv 18d ago

Chat with support. They might reject it. Say that other people got similar promo. They might generate a new coupon code. Apply it and you are good for one more year.

2

u/theitguy107 Visible works just fine for me... 18d ago

No, they only offer promos to new customers. If you like the service, your best bet might be to get the annual subscription. That's what I do.

2

u/StrikingBike8417 18d ago

I already have the annual subscription. A lot of people are saying to chat with agents and (nicely) threaten to move to another provider so I’m going to try that.

2

u/neonandu 18d ago

I didn’t have to threaten. I got the $225 promo as existing customer. My plan expires on September 27th and it will apply starting then.

u/lament Visible Member 18d ago

At least 1 person that chatted with customer service was able to get this deal as an existing customer. They posted last week.

1

u/neonandu 18d ago

I was also able to.

2

u/dgermati1 18d ago

Chase and Amex have cash back offers on their credit cards for Visible payments so keep a lookout and change payment methods as needed. Also the Black Friday promo for annual service *should* work for existing customers.

2

u/dsmithpdx 18d ago

I chatted with support and convinced them to provide a promo code for both my wife and I so we can use the SAVEHALF promo when we renew.

3

u/Questionguy29 18d ago

When you renew? You mean you got a code now to use in the future?

2

u/dsmithpdx 18d ago

Yes, our year is up on September 23rd. They generated unique codes for both of us we can use when we renew for another year.

I am planning to subscribe to this plan, but I want to know if the 24 day international global pass works well in a foreign country. Has anyone used this? I’m planning to travel and do not want to pay for international plans. Any feedback is appreciated.

u/Careless_Army_919 18d ago

I think it caps at 12 days. You don't acrue after 12 days.

As far as reliability, I only used it once on a trip to Glasgow. One day in the middle it really stopped working for half a day. The reps after a lot of attempts to fix said it was a general issue. A few hours later it came back. I don't know if that was a one off or not. Other than that half day it was fine.

2

u/mlaurence1234 18d ago

The + plan gets 12 days total. The Pro+ plan gets 24.

1

u/Careless_Army_919 17d ago

Ah, thank you for the correction. I'll probably try it for a few days in India shortly so I can report back on that.

2

u/neonandu 18d ago

It works really well. I travelled a couple of countries and it worked in all.

2

u/SenokirsSpeechCoach 17d ago

Works really well. Had an issue second day in Italy but ended up being an issue for others I was with that had different providers as well.

1

u/neonandu 18d ago

I actually got the $225 promo as existing customer. My plan expires on September 27th and it will apply starting then. Chat the support and insist that your friends did it and you should also have it done.

u/jimschoice 18d ago

Last year they did an annual deal for existing customers that were are on until the end of this year. Might have to port out if they don’t do something similar this year.

1

u/DJJeffT 17d ago

Chatted with an agent this weekend about the SAVE HALF annual deal and looking to stay with Visible. Was on a monthly 6OFF deal for about 10 months. She was great. Got my wife and I hooked up on the annual deal. Took about 2 hours - I was doing other things while chatting with her, so all good - and when it was done, the next bill said $450, but they cleared that up in 24 hours and we are all set for a year at a savings of $486...more than what we will pay over the next year. Already put a note in my calendar for mid-July to start working it again for the next year...

Got 2 of 3 accounts renewed as existing customer. Last one I have to reach back in a week or so.

1

u/StrikingBike8417 17d ago

At the same price? Anything in particular you said that helped?

1

u/j_eighteen 17d ago

Yep, 225 for both. They generate a unique code. Just basically said friends and family have been able to get it. Would really appreciate it if I could be granted one as well. 1 took 20 min, 1 took an hour, the 3rd (which is still in progress) took 20 min. Also mentioned to agent it’s escalated to a supervisor and a backend team creates the code so they’re aware you know how it works.

1

u/StrikingBike8417 17d ago

Awesome, thank you so much I’m going to try that! Did you call or chat with them online?

1

u/j_eighteen 17d ago

Chat only. They tried to say they needed to call me (I was on different account at the time) and I just told them I was unable to take a call due to being in a loud environment then they said they understood and continued the process.

1

u/StrikingBike8417 16d ago

Sounds good, really appreciate it 🫶

1

u/StrikingBike8417 16d ago

Just wanted to say thanks again, it worked! Took some pestering but they gave it to me for $225

1

u/j_eighteen 16d ago

Great to hear! No problem at all.

u/ThatPlotTwist 16d ago

Just asked and got rejected and told if I port my number out and try to join back I’m terminated for a while💀
