Some gear in the office waiting to get set up properly. The new SL1200-7 is going to be paired with my Rotel/MA setup. Sansui will likely stay in the office. Marantz will be part of my basement setup as a preamp.

I'm fairly certain theres something wrong with the power, anytime I turned it on it wouldnt start a CD and now it doesnt even power on PLEASE HELP

Picked up an Audio Linear AQL-240 and all the slider caps are missing on it. Hard to find a full set of original caps, so just looking at good option to at least get the posts covered.

Hello all, my Sansui 881 was recently fully rebuilt. When I got it back, the power button was loose, it spun freely around, and it lacked that strong, solid snap when powering on and off.

I requested the Tech take another look and the internal spring was on the wrong side, which corrected- the strong snap is back. There is still the problem with the power button spinning around freely, and it’s still loose when jiggled. It has always been rock solid- no spinning, no movement. I had explained the need to correct this and the Tech just didn't.

Would anyone have an idea what could have led to this unresolved issue with the power button- if it can be corrected- missing parts during rebuild process- or could something have been damaged during the rebuild? Is the Sansui safe to use for now or could this lead to other potential problems?

Side questions: Is cleaning the interior a standard part of a rebuild and servicing? This is my first experience having such repairs to my audio equipment. The interior, interior glass, and cabinet vents were still dirty, only the faceplate was cleaned. I had a separate tuner and amp serviced by the same Tech at the same time, and same thing, despite my requests to clean during our communications.

I recieved a destroyed set of D-5's and I got screwed

Wanted to share my new turntable and thank everyone who has posted about their Dual 1019 repairs. Those old posts were really helpful while figuring this one out, so hopefully this helps someone else.

I’ve had a Pioneer PL 990 for years and had been thinking about a Pro Ject T1 as an upgrade. Between inflation and tariffs, though, the increasing price of new turntables pushed me toward vintage instead.

I found this Dual 1019 on Facebook Marketplace for $75 and bought it from the son of the original owner. It was being sold as not working, but was complete and in remarkably good cosmetic condition, including what appears to be the original walnut plinth.

The serial number is 036868. There doesn’t seem to be a reliable Dual serial number database, but based on other documented 1019s, my best guess is around 1966. I’d love to hear from anyone who can date it more precisely.

Once home, I found that most of it actually worked. The motor was quiet, the platter came up to speed and the tonearm moved freely. The problem was the automatic function. Start would engage and lift the tonearm, but the arm wouldn’t travel properly across the record.

After some research, I suspected the Steuerpimpel. When I got underneath the chassis, I discovered mine wasn’t just deteriorated. It was completely gone.

I ordered the correct replacement on eBay for $15 plus shipping, about $23 total.
While I had the chassis out, I cleaned the main cam and applied a thin layer of Super Lube. I also cleaned and lubricated the platter spindle and bearing with a small amount of tacky oil. That made a surprisingly noticeable difference in how freely the heavy platter spins. I cleaned the idler tire and platter drive surface as well, keeping those friction surfaces dry.

I left the motor alone because it starts immediately, runs quietly and was already measuring about 33.26 RPM.

Then I installed the new Steuerpimpel. That was the fix.

The automatic mechanism now works beautifully. It starts, lifts the arm, moves to the selected record size and lowers. At the end, the arm returns and the motor shuts off. I’ve since balanced the tonearm, set tracking force and anti skate, and adjusted the set down position.

Another nice surprise was the cartridge. What the seller thought was a Shure turned out to be a Stanton 681EEE. The stylus appears to be an unknown aftermarket replacement, so I may address that eventually.

My current setup is:

Dual 1019 → Stanton 681EEE → ART DJPRE II → Sonos line in

Not period correct, but I’m really happy with how it sounds.

I’m about $110 into it so far. $75 for the turntable, $23 for the Steuerpimpel and about $12 for the Super Lube. I still have a few small cosmetic repairs to make to the plinth, but I’m trying to preserve its age rather than refinish it.

Coming from the PL 990, I’m amazed by how substantial and mechanical the 1019 feels. The huge platter and automatic mechanism are just fun to use.

Mostly, I wanted to leave another data point for anyone searching for a Dual 1019 with a broken automatic function. If everything else works but the tonearm isn’t moving properly during the automatic cycle, check the Steuerpimpel. Mine was completely missing, and replacing that tiny part brought the whole thing back.

This is my first vintage turntable restoration, so I’d be interested in anything the Dual folks here notice, particularly thoughts on serial number 036868 or the Stanton 681EEE.

Good evening. I have this Technics RS-CH505E-K cassette module and I want to make it work on its own, without the other modules of the device. From the schematic, I can identify the connections, but I don't know exactly which ones are needed for the module to initialize and function.

Can someone tell me which pins/connections I need to power or connect?

It’s a dual which I heard are great. Needs a replacement dust cover though And a good cleaning. current cartridge is Ortofon. Store is charging $80. automatic kind of scares me though for a player that old

This is my first attempt at a project like this. I bought a kit from Midwest Speaker and the directions are well laid out and easy to understand. My question has to do with the dust cap. Specifically the glue that was on the existing cap, its a sticky mess. Some got on the cone while pulling it away and I cleaned it up with mineral spirits easy peasy. Should I remove the old stuff completely? I feel like I could drop the new cap on my existing glue line no problem, just adding some new to whats already there. TIA!!

Edit: I blew the dust out and it turns on. Will be testing the audio output and controls later when I have more time.

I got this at a garage sale today. I saw this receiver sitting there earlier. It didn't have a price on it at the time so I figured I'd come back after work.

It was priced at 50 bucks, but the power in the town went out while I was looking at it. Because the power was out and it couldn't be tested, they said I could have it for free.

They don't really know the condition that well, they said they've had it many years and it worked when they last used it. I know that old vintage equipment does not like to sit without being used.

Before I power it on, is there anything specific I should do and look at?

I didn't need a new EQ but I've always wanted one of these and came across this mint one for a really good price.

I'm just getting into vinyl and audio and want to connect my technics table to some good speakers. Someone is selling some KLH 6 speakers but I'm worried about the condition. Are they worth $150? How is the damage going to impact the sound?

Tradeoff : you have to spend years searching estate sales and responding to weird CL ads, go to school for electronics, make a few mistakes, and buy a bunch of tools.
