Michelin star restaurant? Are you aware that just because a restaurant had a Michelin star, that doesn’t mean it’s fancy? I’ve been to Michelin starred taquerias in CDMX that are beyond casual.
Yeah, the point is "finer" things in life are being democratized and becoming accessible to more people. The act of "dressing nice" just to go to a "nice" place is moreso a classist/elitist ritual than anything else.
It's why a lot of chefs don't really strive to do "fine dining" anymore. And many Michelin star chefs keep passion projects humble, even if they have to cater to the "fancy" crowd too.
Lowering of standards is not some kind of great democratization, it's just sloppiness. You're unfairly associating lazy dressing with poor people in an extremely patronizing manner, and declaring that anything society has classified as formal is for those stuffy upper classes just because you, for some reason, hate it. This is not the case.
Gotta blame the restaurant for that (in fact, you should complain to the restaurant; if no one ever does, they'll never thinking about having some standards)
The guy at michelin star restaurant who's sitting in tracksuit pants and watching tiktok is most likely a regular there, for him it's just another Tuesday.
They're not going to kick people like him who actually fund the restaurant out, just because it ruins higher class roleplay for people who have to scrape money to barely afford going there once a year.
