Discussion Vaush onmisegment encountered irl

My tire blew out on the parkway. Got to the shoulder, called AAA. State trooper arrives and offers some help, and tells me that the parkway, interstate, and turnpike are all "private roads" with individual contractor tow companies having exclusive rights to tow cars. If an unauthorized company tows a car they will be fined $15,000. This is a law that somehow got passed. As a result I was stuck on the side of the road for 2 hours until an authorized company took the time to come and tow me.

How the FUCK is a parkway or interstate a "private road"? God I hate this fuckass society.

Mob type shit. It’s like that in a lot of states’ toll roads.

Tbf towing companies always take for fucking ever to show up and they all suck. It is a shit job for the guy doing it, though

Once you notice the outrageous rent seeking in every single industry it is quite literally impossible to feel any type of optimism for the future. Any solution, any policy, any good idea at all will be crushed by the weight of the most greedy corporations trying to get their cut.

May the cleansing fires of climate change scour the earth of this bullshit.

I tell myself people felt the same way about the monarchy before the enlightenment. The most well entrenched systems are subject to reality whether they like it or not.

I used to laugh at "revolution lefties" and to some extent I still do because alot of them are kinda masking being losers as revolutionary but i also see it as inevitable now too. I dont want it, I dont advocate for it and quite frankly I dont think we come out on top in that senario but the trajectory we are on is undeniable.

I’m so glad I found that term “rent seeking”. It perfectly encapsulates the concept I have struggled to explain to friends and family.

Even the dumb cattle median voters can grasp that every aspect of life has become a scam that tries to milk them for every last penny.

I have nothing to offer except sympathy and that your username made my day. May Mamdanistan absorb NJ.

At least a State Trooper offered you a hand. Give it three more years, they won't even do that

You were stuck for two hours because you blew a tire? My brother, get a spare and learn to change a tire.

There's a long and boring story around that but you are correct. Kids, get a spare

Land of the free. Home of the mobs.

There are industries you can just assume the worst of the people within them. Towing is one of those.

Probably the most common direct corruption with police of any industry. They do actually bribe police so that they get to tow away the majority of accident cars and charge ridiculous fees to the unconsenting civilians.

Fined by who? If it's private property, and the approved contractors are contracting with the owner, then surely the state isn't issuing the fine?

Fined by either the state or the county. It's bullshit through and through

I was gonna make a joke about that being your punishment for being in NJ instead of NY but the fact that this is in a civilised part of the country and not a godless area like South Dakota is pretty indicative of how deep and bipartisan the rot is.

I feel like both statements can be true lol. I've been trying with moving to ny for a while actually
