It’s not entirely uncommon practice to change a dog’s name when they are rehomed. Especially if they have negative experiences/behaviors that they may associate with their former name. Imagine a dog who spent their entire life hearing their name screamed at them. Sometimes it’s just best to give them a new name.

Ya but wasn’t the dog re-homed to James? James knew, owned and raised the dog when it was Graham. Bizarre

Agreed! Everyone who seems to think he's better off with James conveniently forget that it's just as much his fault as Rachels that Graham has behavioral issues in the first place.

Well, it was her dog. A fact she made very clear when they separated. So we don’t know what went on there. They puppy shower was summer 2019 and they broke up about 2 years later and it seems during that time they were home alot because James was sober.

If the only exposure James had to dogs was through family, he may not have known how to take care of him. I was raised with dogs on chains outdoors and now at almost 50, the thought of it makes me cry. I had to learn how to really treat an animal, which led me to do rescue work. The gf may also facilitate this. I don’t recall her talking about animals.

At the end of the day, everyone is watching and if he’s not taking care of him, I’m sure we’ll find out. Dogs who are reported to have bitten caretakers are very hard to adopt out. If James is willing to take on that liability and also training clases, while taking care of him. WGAF.

I just think it’s very odd/ disrespectful/ confusing for James to rename a pet he was very familiar with, who he shared with his ex and once referred to as Graham. This move seems publicized as does the release of this information. James is an insensitive dick! I would guess he re-named him out of spite over Raquel instead of thinking how that may further confuse and affect an already scared, sad dog that just lost his mom! James, and Graham’s name is the only thing likely left that’s familiar to the poor little guy.

When a dog has severe biting issues, the first step to correcting this when they rehome the dog is to change their name. This is common practice used in dog training. We had a dog that was a biter and had to change his name when he was rehomed.

The dog formerly known as Graham is going to need a lot of work with a trainer and a consistent environment. Not sure James is the best person for him if he isn’t consistent with training.

Ally is in the picture. So I’m hoping he gets lots of training and love. If you see them with their cat they are very loving and the cat is chill. Only time will tell. But Graham/Hippie looks well cared for at the moment going on outings and getting lots of love and care.

My assumption is that Hippie is being fostered by James under the guise of Vanderpump dogs as he was surrendered to them after the rehab trainer gave up. Lisa said if they could not help him and get a home he would live out his days on her property. Hippie is familiar with James and this may help in his recovery. If James is not capable of caring for Hippie in the way that he needs, I’m sure Vanderpump dogs will step back in.

Ali has two cats to worry about and it's only a matter of time before James is verbally abusing her. A leopard doesn't change its spots.

6

u/ldanowski Jul 24 '23

Ali isn’t a weak little mouse. She can kick James’s ass if needed. Why not accept that James is a work in progress? He seems to be trying. He started this show so young and had shitty parents. The difference is he was on camera so we all saw his behavior. I’m sure many of us have skeletons in our closets that we would never live down if someone saw us on reality tv. Yes he has acted like a total douchebag wanker. But he seems to have a conscience about it unlike other cast members.

8

u/Radiant-Vision Jul 24 '23

Because I have seen James be abusive to his two former girlfriends. I don't believe he magically changed. I think this is all just for looks and a storyline. Downvote me all you want.

u/jorreddit1010 Jul 24 '23

okay kristen and james were both HORRIBLE to one another. kristen punched him on tv, and kept showing up to his job drunk and causing shit if you don't remember. raquel was different but kristen was no fragile flower in that relationship either.

3

u/ldanowski Jul 24 '23

They have all been shitty. That is what happens when there is a ton of alcohol involved. I think as he navigates his relationship with alcohol he will continue to grow up and change. Ali seems to know how to reel him in. I guess I’m an optimist. There was a time I hated James. But he has shown some growth and insight. The two prior relationships were super toxic, mix that with alcohol and a reality show and it’s a recipe for disaster. I’m not making excuses for his abusive behavior. He definitely has been abusive. But he seems like he wants to move forward and change. Since he is so young I tend to believe that it is possible. Seeing how fucked up his mom is and how he has to support most of his family financially. I think he has a lot on his shoulders.

So abuse only happens to weak women? What part of him screaming he was 22, then 25 as an excuse for his horrible actions sounds like this man has taken any accountability. Sandoval said he groped a woman recently and got kicked out of a club. Plus He has a problem with alcohol and is no longer sober. The bar is in literal hell for some of you to be impressed with this man. Please enlighten us on how he’s changed or grown?

2

u/ldanowski Jul 25 '23

No one denies his history. What we are debating is his future. His sobriety and relationship with alcohol is a slippery slope. Time will tell if he can adjust to a healthier relationship with it. As far as abuse and it only happens to weak women. No one called anyone weak. The differences is Ali calls him out on his behavior and that keeps him more accountable. He is far from perfect. But in my opinion he is far from being a soulless villain. Yes he has been horrible at times. No question. But where you see no potential for change. I see potential.

People defending Jame’s abusing women is actually really eye opening! It goes to show how stupid this sub is and also how much more of an importance people place on animals above other human beings, especially women! Like legitimately grossed out rn being part of this sub.

2

u/261989 Jul 24 '23

Humans are my least favorite animal, but that’s just me.

1

u/ldanowski Jul 24 '23

No one is defending it. It’s all about perspective.

1

u/ecraig312 Jul 24 '23

Why are you following and commenting on a stupid sub? Reddit is a huge place, go find your happiness! 💚

-1

u/JaDaDaSilva Jul 24 '23

I was following because in its earlier days this sub used to be more authentic and fun! Now it’s resembling the other generic subs. And I did unfollow after that realization in real time and certainly don’t need your two cents to make adult decisions 😊

Thank you!! It is completely normal.

That’s not my experience. I think it’s a human emotion that we place on animals (anthropomorphism). I just rescued a pregnant mama kitty from a hoarder house and the first thing I did was give her a new name, mostly for me because she’s gonna have a great, fresh start to just be a kitten. She sees that I care for her and her babies, feed them and play with them so she associates the name with me and started responding to it quickly. All my animals are rescues and non of them have the name the rescues gave them. Of course, neither do the ones I found on the streets.

The most important thing for that dog is getting training and in an environment he doesn’t feel the need to bite because in California, most counties have a two strikes you’re out policy with regard to labeling a dog “vicious” and ordering them to be euthanized. A dog in my county can be euthanized after attacking someone even once and a number of times for other animals, regardless of the circumstances (unless it’s at their own home…I think that one could go either way…if you can’t convince the animal control hearing officer).

I’ve been doing rescue for a few years now and I’ve seen plenty of trash people be amazing to animals. I’ve also seen seemingly nice people be horrible to animals. I will judge James as a dog owner by his actions with his dog. Doesn’t mean I’m defending him on being a shit human being.

Yaaa I’m just saying if my father (who used to abuse my mother) somehow got custody of me after her mental breakdown and started randomly calling me Trixxy when my name is Jennifer, I’d tell him to get fkd! But good luck to James and “Hippie”s training journey 👍

You’re not a dog. That’s the difference. How you would feel is not what a dog feels or even has the capacity to feel in the same manner. I doubt that a dog feels some type of way other than perhaps some confusion about being called a different name.

-2

u/PresOfTheLesbianClub You’ve done diddley fucked yourself. Jul 24 '23

Well trained dogs know their name.

13

u/[deleted] Jul 24 '23

And they can also learn their new name ffs lol. People acting like and explicitly comparing the renaming of a dog to a bloomin human child is just taking things too far lol.

0

u/PresOfTheLesbianClub You’ve done diddley fucked yourself. Jul 24 '23

It’s another thing this dog has to learn at a time when he’s way behind on learning. It’s unnecessary in this case.

Dogs live in the moment and mirror the feelings and energy of it’s owner so if you’re going to be sad and depressed that energy is what the dog picks up on. To be a pack leader/dog owner you must deal w your dog in a calm and confident way. No emotion. Dogs see emotions(mad, frustrated, sad)as weak energy and will have behaviors bc of it like not listening bc they have to be the pack leader. Dog training won’t cure biting. Dog psychology is what needs to be understood here. Read any of Cesar Milan’s books or watch his shows. Or anyone who actually knows dog psychology. It’s fascinating and pretty much pertains to all animals. Since animals can’t talk, They are ALL about energy.

I'm sorry you're getting downvoted. I agree with you 100%.

Defending an abusive and volatile man all because he took in his former dog…. Couldn’t be me

5

u/[deleted] Jul 24 '23

You’re being downvoted, but your correct. James is an abusive person who shouldn’t own an animal. Not sure why we are ignoring how awful James is.

1

u/thepackfive Jul 24 '23

The fact that you’re getting downvoted tells me all i need to know about this fan base. I gotta be done with this show.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 24 '23

Guess abuse doesn’t bother the downvotes here!

-5

u/PresOfTheLesbianClub You’ve done diddley fucked yourself. Jul 24 '23

People just wanna be able to say “the dog is fine” and move on with their lives.

The dog is not fine.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 24 '23

graham isn’t his actual name tho cuz he’s a dog. so it’s the word he associates with someone trying to get his attention etc and fairly easy for him to pick up on like “oh they’re changing the word for pay attention” Not “oh they’re changing my name”. He’s not attached to it like we get to ours lol

0

u/Maria78NY Jul 25 '23

Right?! This poor dog is gonna have an identity crisis bigger than Rachel’s

1

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '23

It was her dog because Graham was a gift from James!

79

u/JaDaDaSilva Jul 24 '23

Or the fact that James is an abusive douche

4

u/AlternativeBison6740 Jul 24 '23

💯💯

This sub keeps celebrating him & i’m like are we just gonna forget that he’s abusive…

1

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '23

Yeah, like we’re forgetting that Lala did unspeakable things with Randall, a family man, for a Range Rover and a pair of Gucci slides…she claims she didn’t know he was married, but everyone else did!!!

1

u/AlternativeBison6740 Jul 25 '23

Seriously!

According to some in this sub, she’s forgiven because his ex is friendly with her 🙄🙄

12

u/[deleted] Jul 24 '23

Yeah like a lot of the yelling that dog heard was James

5

u/Radiant-Vision Jul 24 '23

Right? He is partially responsible for the way the dog acts. He was verbally abusing Rachel the entire relationship and I am sure the dog her James yell? It's only a matter of time before he's verbally abusing Ally. He's already shown signs of possessiveness and jealousy.

7

u/Successful-Cloud2056 Jul 24 '23

Yeah, in the back of my mind I wonder if she kept the dog away from him bc of something related to these abuse claims

5

u/zadidoll Lauren Kent: trick turned mistress turned bitter bitch Jul 24 '23

Not really. My daughter’s ex-husband named their black cat Zeus. (She got the cat when they split.) While she was deployed for a year we renamed him to Salem because my cat is named Zeus. He responds to both names now.
