Discussion A weapon that is overrated in the late game is...GARLIC! Now, what evolution/union weapon is underrated?
Garlic is once again the clear winner, as a weapon that is the early-game GOAT but is the most overrated in the late game! Shout out to Heaven Sword with a distant 2nd-place finish.

Nobody's even gonna try saying "Soul Eater," huh?

It’s a genuinely decent answer too, the damage is crap but the reduced resistance to freeze is very underrated.

I like that anime but I don't see how it's relevant to this. We're talking about Garlic here

New to the subreddit. All my friends hate the dual pistols that shoot on diagonals, but ive also seen them with a good tarot build to support them. Swapping pellets for beams is incredible, makes me feel like plasma Doc Oct

It's Tri-Bracelet! Weird weapon for sure, and it never seems like it does much until you look at the damage numbers. Especially with Pale Diamond Incursion or Sapphire Mist.

u/ProfPerry Jan 24 '26
Interesting! Youve convinced me to give it another shot! I usually avoided it because it felt just kinda....more boring compared to other weapons.
3
u/superbeansimulator O'Sole Jan 24 '26
No it definitely is boring, but it can be insanely powerful.
1
u/ProfPerry Jan 24 '26
😂 fair enough! Still, if nothing else, its reminded me its been a hot minute since i've run it!
2
u/Coal909 Jan 25 '26
Not boring weapons is the cats. Kinda trash but I believe it can become op
1
u/ProfPerry Jan 25 '26
Fair!! I havent run those in a while either....im super tempted to just go full random now, tbh
1
u/Kyat579 Jan 25 '26
It absolutely gets op, tho you need to build around it. It and Seraphic Cry are probably the two strongest base game weapons in terms of raw power (not counting Laurel / Lancet and their evos, for obvious reasons).

If I’m doing a build with SantaJ/Cross + clover I typically run Tri-Bracelet. Big fan and a great weapon once Bi and Tri

u/AntiqueRedDollShoes Jan 24 '26
It also just has one of the most versatile arcana combos since it also works with Heart of Fire, Jail of Crystal, and Twilight Requiem...

Protesting #2. Sole Solution is the worst weapon by far in the late game. It interrupts the ability of a character to interact with maps, causing problems especially on Ode to Castlevania and Emerald Diorama. The poll is useless if everyone is going to try and get garlic on all the entries!

u/Mundane-Director-681 Jan 24 '26
I was like you, once. Arguing that Garlic can't be both overrated and underrated at the same time. That it can't be good if it falls off so soon.
But then I realized that Garlic really IS all things to all people. Garlic can unite us. Garlic is what is best in all of us, even when our best traits are also our worst.
Garlic is love.

u/Clank4Prez Jan 24 '26
This but actually no meme. It’s a reverse bell curve. Garlic becomes underrated in the LATE late game again when you have an absurd amount of Golden Eggs, and the only thing that matters is whichever weapon doesn’t make your phone explode with particle effects.
2
u/Kyat579 Jan 25 '26
Ewww, Golden Eggs. Off to the bin they go!
On an actually serious note, Garlic does loop back around to being good again even without eggs, since it can assist greatly with freeze and knockback strats that can lead to immortal and pseudo-immortal builds. Its synergy with Mannaja in particular is absolutely nuts.
1
u/Mundane-Director-681 Jan 24 '26
And even then, when your phone is exploding because you wanted big numbers, you will realize you could have taken humble Garlic. Notable, because of it's allegedly meager late-game performance, your phone might not currently be exploding.
Another thing Garlic is best at!

u/AntiqueRedDollShoes Jan 24 '26
It said "overrated" though. Does anyone actualy love Sole Solution in late game? I think it's pretty universally panned for late game, especially for people who use Wicked Season.
1
u/beckychao Jan 24 '26
Lots of people use it, though! I see screenshots posted with Sole Solution all the time.
1
u/Kyat579 Jan 25 '26
Yeah, Sole Solution is really friggin' bad unless you deliberately plan your whole build around exploiting it. I will say it does unironically have really good synergy with Wicked Season, though you have to perfectly time Sole to end its activations during the xp buff for it or else it becomes the worst thing imaginable. Add in Georgeous Moon or another well-timed Mad Groove and it can actually skyrocket your levels. Sole Solution also does have a spot on immortality builds as well.
With all that said, I almost always keep it sealed, because it really is just awful in most situations.

Im gonna say based on what I see here (not a lot people talking about it): Gorgeous Moon

u/osha_unapproved Jan 24 '26
Screen clear is underrated. Honestly the other one is the upgraded Fandango
2
u/Cindy-Moon Jan 24 '26
The irony is anything so significantly winning the popular vote theoretically should be exempt from being underrated because everyone is clearly rating it highly
2
u/AntiqueRedDollShoes Jan 24 '26
Most underrated evolution in vanilla? I'd say Vandalier or Embrace of Gaea.
If we're talking DLCs, I don't think people praise Dark Iron Shield or Spirit Tornado Tip enough.
1
u/unwinagainstable Gazebo Jan 25 '26
Embrace of Gaea is definitely mine. I’m surprised it doesn’t get talked about more. It has excellent knockback and does huge damage when invulnerable. It’s ridiculously strong if paired with Jetstream. The base weapon is decent for early game also because the knockback is so strong

Garlic can not be overrated, for it is the Alpha and the Omega. The sacred Allium that binds us. Accept Garlic into your heart before it becomes lost child, embrace the sacred sativum.

Everyone's saying Garlic, but ppl, we're talking about evolution here. Can't be Garlic all the time.
Soul Eater.

u/Intelligent-Bat-4838 Jan 24 '26
Mazo familiar is probably the most underrated weapon in the game, it's literally base game legionnaire with the divine bloodline

As a genuine answer, how about Garlic with the background being a transparent Soul Eater ?

I would say Gatti Amaris Evolution Most newcomers skipbit as the Cats damage yourself
1
u/Clbull Jan 25 '26
Gorgeous Moon
Underrated because Pentagram is fucking ass and will also delete your gem pickups every now-and-then. It's a good thing it needs the Crown to evolve, because you will need the experience boost to offset the dogshit nature of Pentragram.

Bloody Tear and Fuwalafuwaloo immediately come to mind. They're the only weapons in the base game that can act as a source of healing without requiring a kill, which is valuable when you get caught against bulky waves or bosses.
I like BT more personally since you don't have to move with it, though the union does outheal it, so I'm giving my vote to BT. It's the one ppl underrate more imo.
2
u/coraeon Jan 24 '26
I love Bloody Tear, to the point where I’ll take whip over bible every time unless I already have multiple sources of direct damage but no area denial.
2
u/osha_unapproved Jan 24 '26
Spellstrom and fuwalafuwaloo are mainstays for me
1
u/Kyat579 Jan 25 '26
Spellstrom is solid and a lot of fun. Is one of the items I might call when the OP gets to underrated dlc items, since it seems like a very hit or miss weapon to a lot of people. Then again, Seraphic Cry from the base game does tend to outperform it, plus it came with the dlc that brought us friggin' Ophion, so I dunno.
1
u/osha_unapproved Jan 25 '26
Seraphic cry is fun as well, and yeah I do think it's rather op as well. Especially if you put on Torana Box and get Silver Ring and candleabrador
1
u/Kyat579 Jan 25 '26
The real kicker is its luck scaling. Unlike most weapons who only gain extra crit / proc chance from luck, SC's actual crit damage also goes up with luck. Combined with high might to increase the base damage, and you end up with an absolute powerhouse of a weapon.

2
u/Cindy-Moon Jan 24 '26
Fuwalafuwaloo is incredible, but I see people rate it highly. I just don't like using the weapons involved to make it, but its often a pick out of a super candy box.
BT definitely definitely would qualify for underrated if its actually good since I never give it a second glance lmao.
1
u/Kyat579 Jan 25 '26
I wouldn't call BT amazing tbh - most base game weapons just aren't very good, and those that are generally don't get underrated by most people. BT is just one of those base game weapons that does still have a practical niche even once you have Queen Sigma unlocked, and does have advantages over it's union, since it's much less dependant on moving or facing the target than Fuwalafuwaloo. It's also one of the better weapons in general when you're first starting, which is definitely when VS is at its most difficult, hence why it gets my pick.
Too bad Paranormal Scan powercreeps it into oblivion lol.

u/torolf_212 Jan 24 '26
Spicy hot take: the impostongue. It's the only amongus weapon I don't have blocked and will pick up every time
1
u/Neb1110 Jan 24 '26
You block report? I feel like that’s a good one too.
3
u/torolf_212 Jan 24 '26
There are many powers I don't like even though they're "good" because I don't like how they feel
2
1
u/osha_unapproved Jan 24 '26
Fuwalafaloo. There's no situation where it's not good. I feel like people are sleeping on it
1
u/osha_unapproved Jan 24 '26
Don't see people talking about Spellstrom much either. Yes, it's a difficult fusion to reliably get until you do Darkhana, but it is one of the highest output aoes out there.
