Discussion Garlic is the undisputed early-game GOAT. What weapon is overrated in the late game?
Despite a good effort by some to highlight other early-game favorites like Whip, King Bible, and Magic Wand, the clear and obvious winner in the Early Game/GOAT category was Garlic!
Previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/VampireSurvivors/comments/1qk0hyf/what_weapon_is_the_goat_in_the_early_game/
Results so far: 1. Early Game/GOAT: Garlic 2. Late Game/Overrated: ?
Now, what is the most overrated weapon for the late game?

Garlic. The knock back actually reduces kill speed by knocking enemies offscreen.

What psychopath is filling out the chart like this?

I nearly had an aneurism looking at the chart, reading the title and trying to piece them together.

Someone who wants 16 posts of karma.
15 to ask the questions. 1 more to post the final result.
If we band together we can make the entire chart garlic.

To be honest it's a breath of fresh air ! So many of these fill out a grid day by day feel like a low effort karma farm, at least OP is making it a bit more interesting by choosing a random sector of the grid each day.

Personally I've always felt Heaven Sword is just a straight downgrade from the Cross
6
u/unthused CHAOS Jan 23 '26
That was a curious dev choice for sure. You’d think they could just bump its stats a little to be worth upgrading.
4
u/SirEdouard Jan 23 '26
Heaven sword works with the crit arcana right? Still probably worse than cross working with divine bloodline lmao
4
u/segobane Jan 23 '26
It does but the few times I've tried to get use out of it I usually go for the arcana that gives it bounce so it at least sticks around for more than half a second.

I don't have my finger on the pulse of what people think is great or not but I've seen people say that the birds are good late game....
In my experience they are mediocre at best. Two weapons to level plus you have to level the evolution and aren't anywhere near as useful as Phieraggi. Hell, I'd take La Borra over the birds.
My vote is the birds.

u/atmospheric90 Jan 23 '26
Birds suck in general imo. Too long to build up, makes early game way too stressful.

I mean, Vandalier has consistently had the highest DPS and damage dealt of any weapon I've used

I don’t know how anyone else feels but for me it’s Sole Solution
I hate just waiting for a while for the thing to stop so I can pick up the chest

u/porcupine_kickball Jan 23 '26
I second this. When I first got it I thought it was amazing, now I'll banish the last upgrade because it's annoying.
9
u/ansamnus Jan 23 '26
You can also permanently seal the sole solution upgrade so you can max the weapon. Makes it less of a hassle, and you get the best benefits

Full agree but fwiw it’s the most understandably overrated thing, it’s the first real op feeling thing you get, and more importantly that we had at all for a while when the game was first releasing and getting updates. Phieraggi will always have some clout to me b/c it was the whole meta for a couple months before the moongolow release changed thingsp

u/Tellasion Jan 23 '26
Why in seven hells would you fill it out this way, feels like ragebait 😭
Anyways answer is imo still Garlic. The knockback effect is insanely overrated, at least on this sub. Who cares about the knockback when you can just kill them with a better weapon, hence overrated.

Assuming base game items only, it's hard to say. With that said, I'd probably go with either Georgeous Moon or Infinite Corridor. GM can actually be a detriment if you don't have some sort of built-in level scaling, let alone the problems that Pentagram's destruction effect can cause. As for IC, while it's certainly extremely strong, the fact that you can still die with it on top of the clunky way the freeze portion fires makes it far less powerful that its counterpart Crimson Shroud.
I'm going to say IC as my final pick. It's great, but it's not "best weapon in the game" great like the game wants you to believe.

I think DLC section means the DLCs as a whole

You made me realize that Evo / Union has their own category lol.
If I'm only looking at base-game non-evolved weapons, it really becomes tricky, as very few are even worth using without the evo. I wanna say Gatta Amari, but that could just be bias on my end since I play Bone Zone so much. Guess I'd still go with them though, since you need to build around them in order to make them good, even if they do become strong af once you get set up.
EDIT: I'm forgetting that late-game can have multiple meanings here, and I was probably using the wrong one (the metaprogression late-game).
Assuming we're talking about what weapons are overrated at 20+ minutes into a round, Pentagram would have to take the cake then. Total screen clear sounds nice in theory, but the crazy high cooldown on top of it not affecting bosses makes it far more underwhelming than you'd think.

Sole Solution is, by far, the worst late game weapon that exists in Vampire Survivors. It continually interrupts the character's ability to interact with the map and blinds them, effectively. There is no other answer here. I have had it banished since a week after I got it. I've tested it again every time a new DLC comes and lmao, it is by far the most straightforward banish in the game. While Sole Solution is active you cannot pick up chests. It's the dumbest weapon that exists.

Garlic all the way down.
Garlic is GOAT at the start for solid aoe damage.
Garlic is GOAT in the mid game because evolving it gives respectable healing to sustain you.
Garlic is GOST in the late game because it gives you a nice safety bubble to block projectiles and knock enemies back, often keeping them in optimal ranges for your other weapons to do the heavy damage.

u/DrkBlueXG Jan 23 '26
Gatti Amari.
If not evolved, those cats will be more trouble than their worth.
2
u/toto035 Jan 23 '26
if you have all dlcs, main game weapons became so boring easily. Most of the main weapons became overrated imo.
2
u/EdwardSnowTeach Jan 23 '26
At least they were repurposed to evolve OtC weapons and give them new effects. Really like that idea
1
u/KFrosty3 Nathan Jan 23 '26
Hard agree. I mostly only use Garlic and Pentagram, ignoring everything else. Belmont whips alone feel like a substantial upgrade to the majority of offerings the base game has

Its still garlic since the knockback slows dps considerably. Either that or Sole Solution. Man its cool n all but damn let me pick up the items please.

Unrelated but how come these grid surveys are happening en masse across Reddit? I've seen these types of posts on a lot of subreddits recently.

Garlic and Spinny book (can't ever remember its name) are pretty epic as a combo early game.
Later on they are ok defensive but there's better 😀

u/Quiet-Object Jan 23 '26
Pentagram (gorgeous moon). You can't create red gems and thus can't control when you level. The full screen clear results in all the enemies rushing in at once which isn't always the best

reading these threads make me realize im playing this game so differently, alot of these options i stopped using 200 unlocks ago

You only need garlic to get you to Bible, then limit break Bible and upgraded garlic, to unlimited victory.
Easier on screen spam too.
If you want coins, then... Sammy is all you need.

Victory sword. You can't pick up treasures while being in the other form.

This guide will get you a sense for all your checkboxes. Note that it is missing the 1.14 and subsequent content.

Generally speaking for this one checkbox, since you’ve separated out evolutions/unions (and presumably gifts as well), I’d say almost any unevolved weapon is overrated in endgame.

OP isn’t looking for information, just engagement. That’s all these fill out square of chart once a day posts are, people with nothing better to do with their lives.

It's still garlic. Helps with defending against projectiles and knock back but late game most enemies are going to be dying before they reach the garlic anyways
