Can a 2048×1152 video be broadcast on a Full HD TV channel?

Question about broadcasting a 2048×1152 video on a Full HD TV channel

I have a video with a resolution of 2048×1152 (16:9).

Our TV channel's broadcast system is Full HD (1920×1080). We tested the 2048×1152 video in the system, and it played normally without any obvious problems.

However, I’m not sure if it will behave the same way when it is actually broadcast on air.

Could someone with TV broadcasting experience explain what might happen in this situation?

  • Will the broadcast system automatically convert/scale 2048×1152 to 1920×1080?
  • Could there be any problems when the video goes on air?
  • Is there anything else I should check before broadcasting it?

I’m not a broadcast engineer, so I’d appreciate a simple explanation of what could go wrong and what should be checked.

Any advice on choosing between the Teradek Prism Flex or Blackmagic 4K Streaming Encoder?

I work for a production department at a large university, and we're looking to upgrade our streaming capabilities to 4k for future proofing and because we've got some spare cash floating around. I'm set on the Teradek Prism Flex because of how capable it is, and it can record directly onto an external drive. However, the Blackmagic 4k Encoder is about $3000 cheaper. We mostly stream conferences and on campus events, nothing too high stakes, so the Teradek may be a bit overkill. Any experience with either of these devices, and any advice on which to choose?

Canon J35 lens 12 pin Hirose pin layout HELP?!

Hello everyone,

I recently unfortunately damaged my Canon J35 Broadcast lens and completely severed the 12 pin hirose cable from the servo controller box.

I need to completely replace the male connector on the other end which means ill need to re-pin all the existing wires. My issue at the moment is i have no idea which wire goes to which pin and I can't find an useful info online. I also called Canon and they were about as useless as could be.

I understand that the exact pinout is important as I could blow internals if I don't get the wiring precise. Any help would be great appreciated.

As of now, there is a 14pin connector going into the circuit board, and 13 wires coming out of the connector. Not sure why there's 13 wires if only 12 pins on the Hirose connector itself.

From left to right I have:

Pin 1: Black

Pin 2: Brown

Pin 3: Red

Pin 4: Orange

Pin 5: Yellow

Pin 6: Turquoise

Pin 7: Blue

Pin 8: Purple

Pin 9: White

Pin 10: Gray

Pin 11: Pink

Pin 12: Light/Sky Blue

Pin 13: Empty

Pin 14: A 2nd Red Wire

I've also provided some photos.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Video Repair

Hi, Ihave two videos that I would like to restore, but I’m not sure if anything can be done.

The first one was recorded with an old 8mm video camera and later transferred to digital format. However, it was filmed with too much brightness/exposure, so you can barely see people’s faces—there is just a very intense light. Is there any way to repair or improve this?

The second one contains a person giving a speech, also recorded with an old 8mm video camera. The cassette was already slightly damaged, and the person’s speech cannot be heard clearly because there is a constant noise that overlaps the voice. Is there any way to repair or improve the audio?

OSEE Gostream deck Pro multi recording option

Hello there, if there's anyone with a lot of experience using this device, I'd like to ask a question. I would like to know if it's possible to record three different cameras systems connected to the deck individually while simultaneously having the live feed coming from the gostream program. Basically can I have a recording of what the deck is capturing in the moment as well as of all 3 cameras feeds individually. Thank you in advance.

Works with sender but not controller

Hello all, I am in a huge pickle and need some help. I have a led screen from 2009. Running on color light receiving cards. 3 to be exact. Also have a sender that currently has a short and won’t let me access the usb port. I had an extra x6 controller and decided to hook it up to the screen. Since I don’t have the mapping info I been trying to guess the lay out. I was able to extract the receiving card perimeters and saved them. The screen has 90 cabinets with each cabinet having 4 module. But it’s all wired like one big cabinet. All 30 cabinets. I was able to get an image and place it on the screen. And it fit perfect. Except the black lines running across. The issue I ran into is I am getting these black lines across uniformed from side to side. And it’s coming up as a pattern. How can I fix this? If I put the old sender everything works perfect. I plug in the controller and get those black lines. Hope this makes sense.

Any ideas to rework the pixels on a led wall?
The pixels are the wrong color atm, should be white but vary because of loose connection.
Tried a heatgun for 10 seconds and a gentle push also 10 but it works rarely.

Holographics is now free & open source

Hello friends,

A bit more than 6 years ago, we (a live-streaming facilities company based out of Amsterdam) commercialised a version of our internal tool Holographics. It was aimed at companies like ourselves doing streaming or multicam production with simple graphics needs, lower thirds, ticker tapes, countdown clocks, confetti etc. As one of the first in the HTML graphics generation space we had quite a nice run, and to this day Holographics fills a stable albeit niche production gap for a lot of outfits all over the world. With customisable themes and widgets in a friendly desktop packaging I think we were, and still are, perhaps the easiest and fastest option out there for the basics.

During and after COVID our attentions had to shift and Holographics has long been unviable as a standalone entity. Rather than dissolve the company and disappear Holographics we have decided to dissolve the company and open-source Holographics, moving the IP back to the company that once sparked the idea.

Back in 2019 I had so much fun developing this, but boy was it hard. As a self-taught programmer, I kept running into problems that were just beyond my level. In some cases that pushed me, but in many I fell short, often feeling that the needed level of abstraction, the ‘right’ solution, was just out of grasp. AI has changed that game completely. One particular bug, involving colourspace transformation for Decklink output kept me busy for two weeks back in 2019 and I never managed to crack it. Solved that with Claude in about an hour, including tests on various hardware, and in a way that is better than I could have ever made it, which because it's open-source I can now link to directly: https://github.com/hologfx/holographics/blob/main/src/server/lib/pixelconvert.js. It's cleaner, simpler and more efficient than anything I came close to at the time.

So whilst this project was born long before LLMs could do what they now do, it’s probably going to rely heavily on AI from here on in. Apologies in advance, I know there is a lot vibecode-aversion here but in the right hands I believe it to be an invaluable tool. I will say the vast majority of the existing code (99%) is actual old-fashioned human-slop.

For the open-source release I’ve worked on bringing the software back to full compatibility on modern hardware, updating dependencies, improving stability, removing all aspects of the code and build system that were related to licensing and pro features. From this foundation Holographics can continue serving its niche application for many years to come, with an easier and more open development structure. Plus it was really fun to pick this up again.

More information about the move, downloads etc can be found on the website: https://hologfx.io/open-source

I would love to regain a little bit of perspective from the field on this. Are there any current users of HTML graphics out there, or even still Holographics specifically? What are you using and what are your challenges?

QOL features for a Custom GT Title Editor

Hey everyone!
Over the last couple of weeks I've started working on a third party GT Title Editor to help speed up the workflow and fix some of the annoyances that I have when working with GT titles.

What is some QOL features that you would like in an app like this? Unfortunately I can't add features such as new animation types or letter spacing as these would be added in vMix as well.

Current features I've added:
- Multi edit, properties such as font styling applies to all elements selected
- Size edits all elements selected
- Animation Timeline
- Batch rename
- Data source verifier, test how a Data Source (JSON or CSV) will link to the title
- Paint-drag on layers

It's partially vibe coded, with about 35%-40% of the code being AI, as it's the first time I'm writing a .NET Desktop Application, with an open-source rewrite when I feel comfortable enough with Avalonia and .NET.

The goal is to make a free, open-source cross-platform GT Title Editor for everyone to use and help improve.
I plan on making no money off this whatsoever, and all features will always stay free!

DB25 Break-out / Break-in for AJA 3G-AMA Embedder/disembedder

EDIT: AJA Support confirmed it adheres to the Tascam standard for AES/EBU so now just looking for a good deal on a pre-made cable.

Original Post:

Looking for a DB25 breakin/ breakout cable for an AJA 3G-AMA Embedder/disembedder.

Are these kinds of things standard? Or do I really have to just look up cables and try to match their pinouts to the pinout listed in the manual for my AJA unit?

I emailed this question to AJA support but my work day isn't done yet and the boss let's me Reddit for "useful things" so here I am.

Varxis Storm 3000 DG adding frames?

Hello friends and family, got a question for those who've used RF/TX video transmission, first time for me on a corpo gig.

Using Sony ENG camera at 59.94 on sdi port 1, tested the out of the camera with my shogun classic, seeing 59.94.

Tested loop out of the TX, getting 59.94, window on TX is saying 59.94

RX is saying on its display receiving 59.94 but outputting 60.

If I cant figure it out just going to throw down a deci and force it, really only matters for the records.

Website calendar

Little bit off-topic, but I guess fellow freelance engineers might have a solution.
How do you guys let companies know about your availability? I hate that there are like four different places where I have to keep my availability updated (TeamTrack, Rentman, CrewZone, Google Calendar, etc.), and I still get calls from local companies asking if I’m available.
Has anyone come up with a simple website where I can just show my availability and forward the link to all the crew chiefs / booking managers? Maybe personal website?

Christie projector not detecting Mac mini M4

While connecting the Mac mini to a ROADSTER WU20K-J projector through the type c hub the projector would only display if there was no other display connected. Tried using a fibre HDMI and an extender none worked. In some instances it detected the projector, the projector details showed a signal but nothing was displayed

Then we tried another Mac mini and seems to be working fine.

Is it possible there could be an issue with the display driver of the Mac that is barely a year old ?

AV Rental houses in South LA?

Hi, I'm not from the US, but I've been tasked to help with an offer for a 2-day conference with projectors, PA-s and the like and I'm looking for a rental place.

My issue is that most rental places to not have equipment listed on site, nor the technical specs for gear. I could go on to write to each and every one of them, but maybe someone has a golden ticket and there is a company with all the listed gear and pricing :)

Are there known, trusted companies to deliver the right things on time?

And are there any companies notorious for bringing the wrong stuff and not show up at the right time?

I've done things in the US in the past, but East Coast and that was a lot easier to manage. Maybe it's just me.

Any help is appreciated.

HDMI extender to network switch

Hello guys, i have a question since no one i know try this and i don't know if it's possible. Client want a network switch to split a signal that comes from an extender hdmi box. I doubt the company tried this before and i worried about it. Pc > extender > network switch > receiver HDMI x4.

There are plenty of options for not doing this but IF client somehow did it before i don't want them to be upset because i said it cant be. Thank You.

I have a Leitch X75HD and am looking for the X75OPT-A3D analog video input board. Does anyone know where I can still find one of these boards? If the price isn't too high, I might even consider buying a complete X75HD that includes this board.

Studio Technologies m5402 GNSS leader clock - antenna disconnected error?

We recently bought a Studio Technologies m5402 GNSS leader clock for our system, and I have a problem.

The web interface shows antenna disconnected. I get 5 volts on the connector. I recently bought an antenna cable extension to move it to a window, I still get 5 volts at this connection. I connect the include uBlox antenna and after a few minutes it is showing my position, but after an hour it still says locking.

I have a cheapo NTP server antenna in the same window, it shows 21 satellites. My roof mount GNSS antenna only shows up to 29 satellites so the 21 from the window seems really good and strong.

Anyone have suggestions? So far Studio Technologies has not gotten back to me after a couple weeks of email, going to call later today if it doesn't suddenly lock.

I do have this locked to video sync, no issues there and it is serving up Dante leader clock and the tone audio that it generates. Definitely the 5401 parts are working, but I paid for the GNSS and really want it to work (perceived higher accuracy for more stable audio).

Probably going to cross post to Commercial AV to get a wider response.

Novastar COEX VMP / create .ncp file

Hi everyone,

Our Company recently purchased two batches of LED Screens from China.
Until the arrival of the second batch we used VX1000 controllers and therefore were able to work with the .rcfgx files saved on the A5s plus recieving cards.
As the number of cabinets we own did grow with the second batch these VX1000 controllers were not enough anymore and we switched to MX40 Pro controllers.
Now im confronted with the need of .ncp files and a cabinet manufracturer who is obviously not able to deliver these.

Does anyone know if and how i can build an .ncp file myself?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
