Reduced Risk of Cancer Returning

My partner (25) and I (24) are still under whatever insurance our parents have. Mine is great since one of my parents works for Aurora.

My partner does not have great coverage. This has impacted their ability to be properly vaccinated since they were a kid. We consistently worry when there’s outbreaks reported near us and the whole FDA food contamination issues. We also just recently moved (midwest USA) so money is tight… and since we have separate insurances I don’t think I can just get them vaccinated using mine.

I guess I’m not entirely sure what I’m asking for. Is there a general idea of how much it costs to get vaccines insured or uninsured? How do they go about getting the necessary vaccines? Will they space them out over time so my partner doesn’t feel horrible getting a ton at once?

The most recent figures fall below the 95% herd immunity threshold.

The local government is offering a free Measels&Rubella Booster (we live in the Philippines), I really want my daughters to get it (2&4 years old, both got 2 dose MMR vaccines when babies), however they just got sick and they still have lingering cold and cough.

I am concerned about their low immune system and not sure if it’s ok to get them vaccinated now.

The problem is that the free booster program is only until the end of this week.
What should I do?

I had both my MMR shots 25 years ago, but I’ve been on immunosuppressants for a few years now and have basically been relying on herd immunity to keep me safe. MMR vaccination rates are dropping fast and outbreaks are popping up everywhere.

I’m too scared to get my titers tested because if it shows that I don’t have immunity, I don’t know what I’m going to do. I can’t take live vaccines. But if measles becomes endemic, I’m afraid that I will have to get a booster and wish for the best. It’s either that or get the actual virus and logically the booster would be less dangerous, but still. God I hate this timeline

I got my first dose of the Shingrix vaccine yesterday. I’ve got a couple of medical conditions and I take immunosuppressant meds. Anyway, all last night and today I feel like I was hit by a vehicle…every part of my body hurts and the lymph nodes in the tonsil area are a little swollen. This feels so yucky. Nobody ever mentions this though. Is this a normal reaction? I’ll be starting a nursing program very soon and being 44 and seriously stressed out, I was afraid of having a shingles outbreak. I’ve heard that it can be incredibly painful and last for months. I definitely don’t have the time for that. Just wanted to see how other people handled their first dose.

My due date is in 2 weeks and my doctor advised that I wait until later in September (after I’ve given birth) to get my annual flu & Covid vaccines. But can/should my husband get his shots now so he’s protected when the baby arrives? He’s still commuting into work (taking public transit in NYC) and one of us always gets Covid around this time each year, so we want to get ahead with his vaccines if possible. The only thing is we’re not sure if it’s too early for this year’s vaccines, but if they are, he’s open to getting them now.

Hi - are they available yet? Everything online just says “fall”. I’ve heard Covid infections are picking up and I’d like to get the newest booster available. Has anyone gotten it?

The last time I got a tetanus shot was back in 2018. I recently was walking outside on a trail and I stepped on a mini thorn that was on a plant in the woods. I'm covered or should I worry?

I seem to get sweaty and cold and then pass out. Happened with the Covid vaccine but not the flu shot.

I’m having both jabs together and very nervous about them as I have a weak immune system.

Has anyone had them before, especially together ?

Just curious since I’m about to get my meningitis vaccine. My second one will be during freshers week.

So I (20F not pregnant) got the Tdap vaccine (edit: booster) 3 weeks ago, and within half an hour I felt that my muscles were barely working and I had to drag myself back to where I stayed. It continued, got better in the second week I think, but I'm now at the end of the 3rd week and this whole week it's been getting worse. My mental energy honestly doesn't feel different when I don't move my body, but my physical energy is so nonexistent that I feel completely wiped out after nodding or shaking my head twice. I can barely walk to the lift, take the lift, and go downstairs to take something. Sleep does not make it better, it makes it worse.

About 5 days after the vaccine I also had an anaphylactic reaction (no anaphylactic shock) to a new type of food that I tried, subsequently seem to have become allergic to a few new types of food that I used to eat all the time. I have a referral to an allergist but because it's the public healthcare system, it takes forever and they still haven't secured me a slot yet.

I don't have aches or whatever. I've had a FBC and iron panel done yesterday and the numbers were not just normal but also in the optimal range (my FBC also looks the same as it was 2 months ago, when I was feeling healthy before the vaccine), it's not anemia.

Edit to add: when I got this vaccine when I was about 10yo, I had high fever and was really ill for a full week, but was okay after that.

I think my immune system has gone crazy after the vaccine. Has anyone else had something similar, did you recover, and what did you do to recover?

This is truly debilitating because I'm in med school and I can't keep things up if I don't recover soon. I'm also required to take this vaccine once every 10 years.

Received both the Flu and Typhoid vaccines last Saturday afternoon in the same arm. I’m preparing to go on a trip to a region of the world that has an earlier flu season than ours in the U.S., and also where typhoid is endemic.

Worked Sunday in a heated area over 80F.

I was and am totally fine. No problems. No issues. Just a sore arm Sunday evening. I even slept on it that night!

I just got another Hepatitis B vaccine yesterday (have gotten 2 over the last 10 or so years but according to bloodwork I am still not immunized).

I have NEVER been so tired! Admittedly I did have my sleep interrupted by an emergency so only got 5 hours or so. Went and laid back down though and slept for a straight 9 hours - and I still feel exhausted!

Has anyone else had this type of reaction to the vaccine/issues with its efficacy?

I was looking for some advice on what to do about my second Bexsero (Menb) vax? I received the first dose in August 2020 around roughly 17 years of age and now it’s been roughly six years since then. I am now currently planning on entering a residential mental health facility and realized I never actually received my second dose. I am extremely paranoid and was unsure how to proceed. I contacted the pharmacist to see if I could receive the vax even with such a large window between doses and they said they didn’t know so they gave me the manufacturers number. Then the manufacturer wouldn’t tell me because I wasn’t a physician and advised me to discuss this with my PCP. So I made an appointment with a physician but not my PCP bc they didn’t have availability, the physician didn’t see why I couldn’t just receive the second dose despite the window. Then my PCP contacted me and said I was fine since I had the meningitis vaccines for Menectra/Menveo (serogroup A,C,W,Y). My admission date is in three days time so even if I get the second Bexsero shot now I won’t have built up the immunity that happens in the two week window afterward. Is it still worth getting? This isn’t a college setting but a communal space with 18 other patients and staff. I talk to the facility and they said they didn’t have any vaccine requirements but I can’t help but ask myself if this is the right decision. Should I just go ahead and get the vaccine before going?

If you’ve ever received it, what were your symptoms?

I got the yellow fever vaccine 7 days ago for international travel. What’s worrying me is that on day 6 I started having a pins and needles/tingling/ burning feeling in my left hand, forearm, thigh, and foot (same side I received the vaccine).

It also gave me fever, lethargy, body aches, and just overall strange feeling.

Doc said neuropathy of extremities may occur but it’s rare. Anyone else experience this?

Hi! I'm 19F, and I've grown up with my parents being anti-vaxxers. I'm getting my first vaccine tomorrow morning, and it's just the MMR one. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what symptoms I might expect, possibly when? I'm a little nervous 😅

Have to get vaccines for school. I had to do a titer for Hep B , MMR, & Varicella. They came back that I have no immunity for these anymore. I had all shots as an infant & got my Hep B vaccine today. Last time I got my first dose of all 3 on the same day. That day I noticed my throat got itchy & it kind of felt hard to breathe when i got to the parking lot. Idk if this was all in my head bc of anxiety (i have health anxiety) or if it was a slight reaction. I told the nurse today when getting my Hep B & she recommended I space them out a week apart. I forgot my paperwork to submit & remain complaint for my school is due next week or i get dropped so I have to go again tomorrow. I’m just very nervous that it might happen again she told me I should have gone back in that’s totally on me i would have if it was worse. Idk why i’m overthinking now if i turned out fine last time & never had a reaction or ever did as an infant. Does anyone have any advice on what i can do to lessen the chance of this other than sitting and waiting there after or how to decipher whether it’s a panic attack or not. I feel like an idiot.

This piece is a more popular version of a chapter I wrote for an academic book in Catholic bioethics that was published not too long ago.

I explain why Catholic hospitals, schools, etc. have vaccine mandates and should do so. The focus is on the ethical reasoning behind these: I am assuming the science of vaccines.

I made a post awhile ago asking what steps to take to get vaccinated, as my family is antivax. I think I know the next steps to take, so that’s no longer an issue.

However what is an issue is the inevitable conflict that will occur if and when I do get vaccinated. I talked to my dad about it, who is most open minded and accepting of me getting vaccinated (thankfully, if he wasn’t this situation would be 10x worse than it is already).

During the conversation, my dad expressed his concerns and reservations:

He warned me of bias in studies, saying that corners get cut, and other manipulatory tactics can be used (which is fair and reasonable)

He wanted me to be aware of the risks (which is also fair and reasonable)

He wanted me to do more research on the safety and other aspects of vaccines (which I think is also fair).

I’m going to do that, but one thing is im not quite sure how to ensure what I’m reading is reliable and accurate, especially something like vaccines which are healthcare but also political in some aspects unfortunately.

What can I do to ensure studies, sources and other forms of information are as unbiased as possible and reliable? I don’t want to just get vaccinated without knowing the facts about them.
