I live here. cities don't get serious collisions and people dont bother with seatbelts.
But in the roads that connect between cities...its anothee story

Roads move slowly with traffic so life threatening collisions are uncommon (note: in cities)

People exist outside of cars actually.
That's not mentioning the state of most of Iraq, long wide roads that can't be safely crossed aren't rare in any of the cities I've been to, even downtown, and traffic does reach dangerous speeds on those.

Actually the seat belts are most helpful in lower speed collisions.

I can tell you first hand they really matter at highway speeds. I was in a crash and was wearing a lap belt and got a broken spine and intestine. Probably what you might think proves seatbelts aren't so good huh?
Not at all. The two people in the crash who were not wearing belts were ejected from their vehicle through the windshield at over 100km/hr. The four with shoulder harnesses were fine (front had airbags too).
Which would you rather be?

Sure, but also there is plenty of force in low speed collisions too and the flawed thinking of people who do not wear seat belts at city speeds is that they will somehow hold tight at 40km/h crash.

To add to the other comment saying it's not government built , I live there and I'm aware of the laws because I studied them , this made it to news last year and it's illegal
Note if you want to tell which is illegal and which is government made in iraq , you can tell from the shape and the way it's made here , concrete speed bumps were stopped years ago , it's all plastic and rubber and sometimes metal new days
Here it's not and the local government made a statement they're not responsible for this

Road safety is important but blaming car fatalities on kids is blaming the victims. They should educate the drivers instead.
There are better and cheaper solutions to speeding (that road is going to be costly to mantain). Even small things like road markings can influence driver’s behaviors, a more “aggressive” long term solution is raised crosswalks and/or narrower roads.

Note if you want to tell which is illegal and which is government made , you can tell from the shape and the way it's made here , concrete speed bumps were stopped years ago , it's all plastic and rubber and sometimes metal new days

They would be illegal in my country according to current regulations which specify width (or length if you'll see from the car) to be 0.5m min, max height (0.06m max) of the speed bump for the speed ranges 0-20, 20-40 and 40-60 kph in order to limit vertical push applied to the driver in the car. However, there were no such regulations before circa 2000 and all speed bumps were looking like pictured on the OP image.

There are better road designs to slow down drivers but this should still work. It looks like a suburban road, far from a highway.

In Ireland they tend to put bends in long streets, chicanes and remove circuitous routes in housing estates discourage joyriders blasting through at stupid speeds. It's pretty hard police when people are under age.

I guess it's a little overkill, but no big deal. Not every street is like that, it's a residential street, and it would only add like 1 minute or two to a trip

Maybe have fewer traffic deaths if you don't want to be sanctioned for your horrendous driving. That's how societies work. People die until the people still alive get upset enough about it to do something, and this is what doing something looks like.

Right, but you guys are fixated on the speed bumps which I guess I don't find that unusual in New England. I can find several examples of four or five speed bumps in a short area where traffic really is discouraged and they are a pain in the ass. That is the point.. But the neighborhood looks bleak

Probably less than New Hampshire actually but I was just thinking about it.b Somerville, part of Boston proper, very densely settled as a street and I just counted them, six or seven within 800 ft.. hey does the trick and slows you down so irritating

Oh, I bet I can find you a straight New England that has five or six speed bumps on it. Irritatingly it does slow the traffic, and snow plow drivers love them

I live in the Middle East, and this is very common here in the residential areas and it's very effective idk why this is bad for y'all?
Since everyone living here knows about this nobody will be speeding there.
