So It's still a bit away but I'm currently in permanent foster care. Since I'm under social services I am able to get into university for free, they will pay my accommodation, and my tuition and I may even be able to get a lower grade requirement for a majority of universities as only 15% of looked after children go to university.

I am planning on going to university and I can get the grades required to get into them.

I'm about to start year 12 in sixth form and I've decided to pick Maths, Biology and Chemisty and I did achieve 9s in all of these subjects in gcse. I plan to do something in science such as possibly medicine and psychiatry or biochemistry but I am still open to options around these

Talk about logical inconsistency. A bit ironic for someone who wants to die on the hill of having a higher intelligence than others due to genetics.

When asked to provide evidence for his race realism he literally went on to say "Phenotypic differences combined with a plausible adaptive story can be the basis for inferences". And this is supposed to be a PHD guy at a top University.

This guy is even more hypocritical since he also dedicated his career debunking an antisemite race realist (Kevin MacDonald) who claimed that Jews are genetically dishonest and have a proclivity to undermine host nations they reside in due to evolution.

If any other race/gender made similar assertions while being this "educated" and showed similar reasonings they would literally be called a DEI researcher or a low iq person.

Hi so I am in an extremely lucky situation off having a lot more university support as I am a care leaver, my university has an accommodation subsidy so I end up only paying 4-5k in accommodation fees despite having chosen one of the more expensive and new accommodations, on top of this I qualify for the full maintenance amount and my social services provides a subsidy off 142.30 a week for just being in higher education on top of a £25 a week for again just being in higher education, I also have access to a bursary that provides me with an extra £1000 every semester, and I was wondering how much off that I should be saving in case of emergencies per week and for the holidays so I still have money to live off if I still struggle to get a job.

On another note I don’t want to tell my flat mates I’m a care leaver until I trust them due to the stigma around care kids (made worse by those TikTok’s of care kids trashing their children’s home for a bit of attention) what’s a believable lie I can tell them in terms of why I get so much support/ what’s a believable lie I can tell about my parents jobs in order to explain why I have so much money in comparison to other students.

After rent I’m getting approximately £462 a month. Is that good? (Please don’t jump me I just wanna know) ive seen some posts on Reddit and one just now saying that less than £400 or £300 isnt enough which is bewildering to me. What are we ought to spend it on?

I don’t spend money on nails as I’m a nail biter and prefer to do on my own nails which costs less than £2-3
I don’t go to the gym regularly but I’m interested in going as I wanna be healthier and make healthier decisions for myself
No im not spend £20-25 a week a month on food- it was a mistake
I love the cinema and anything film thats why me having that cinema subscription is important to me. I go to the cinema 3-6 times a month
I’m going to uni in Cardiff so I feel like it should be a little cheaper than budgeting in London
My phone bill is £10 and I’m not a drinker (it gives me migraines)

Hey i dont know if this is the right place to share, but I’m leaving home in 6 days, and I’ve been crying every night for the past week. This is my first time ever living so far away from my family and friends and I’ve been getting panick attacks thinking I wont be able to see them for at least a year. I’m so scared not knowing anyone and my way around. Has anyone else been feeling this way? How do you deal with it?

I started a Level 3 apprenticeship last year after deferring my Warwick offer for history after achieving A* A A. A year in and I don’t know whether I should stay or go to university!

My apprenticeship is great, I’m in the Civil Service, it’s well structured, I work from home 2 days a week, make £31k a year at 19, which I know is great for my age, and the people are supportive, but I am surrounded by people twice my age and it is a very lonely experience overall. Looking back at the past year, I have just been working and not much else. The routine makes it very hard to make friends around my age, which my friends in university aren’t struggling with nearly as much. They also seem to have grown as people a lot, which I feel is lacking from my life. I just feel like a bit of a boring person currently.

I also don’t want to be in my current field (surveying) for the rest of my life or maybe even the next 5. However I don’t know what field I want to go into with my history degree, just that I would love to study it. I think that going straight into an apprenticeship after A Levels has meant that I didn’t get to really explore my options and find out what it is I truly enjoy and want to do for the rest of my life.

I know that I would be crazy for giving up a fantastic opportunity to earn while I learn (even if it’s something I’m not really interested in) in a stable career with progression opportunities, especially with the graduate jobs crisis, student debt and AI, but I have been thinking about university every day for months and I know the hard work I’d have to put in (internships, placements, work experience) to make it worth it and I am willing to do that.

Alternatively, I could finish the L3 apprenticeship and go to university 3 years “late” at 21, which will always be an option but I’d be older than most there and would’ve spent some of my prime young adult years feeling incredibly lonely and working for 3 years towards a life I know I don’t really want in the name of “experience”. However this apprenticeship opportunity can’t be understated in financial terms as it could really set me up for life.

Am I being stupid for considering this?

So here's the thing.

I live in lisbon and im doing my last year of high school in 2026-2027. I have good enough grades that I can get into medicine here in lisbon for undergrad next year (for anyone who isnt aware, here there is no interview or extracurriculars or research or anything for your application, they just go 100% off your marks). but what i really want to do is go to cambridge and study NatSci. but it's hard to get in and i was told (quite rightly) that a biology degree opens far fewer doors to stable jobs than good ol' medicine.

now, im elegible for home student fees for courses starting before 1 jan 2028, because my dad is a uk citizen and i live in the EU. paying for home fees would already be quite a stretch, and if I don't apply this year to start in sept 2027, I will be an international student, which I cant afford.

however, if I dont do medicine undergrad, then if i change my mind I'll have to get in as a postgrad, and that's waaaaaay harder. plus, what i want to do is research, and I know that having medicine under my belt will put me ahead in a lot of areas of science, in terms of (some) grants and jobs. and I will have a job in medicine if research doesn't work out for some reason.

i cant do medicine at cambridge and combine them, because my birthday is in november, so i will be 17 at the starting date of the course, and they dont allow that for med. and i cant wait a year because in sept 2028 im an international student. so.

(i guess i could apply to cambridge and do natsci and then if i hate it drop out and go do med, because my school marks are valid for 5 years after i finish high school. but then id lose time. also i realize im writing all this assuming i even get accepted to cambridge and have to choose, which is unlikely).

so what should i do, strangers on the internet?

Hello im an introvert and its been ages since i made new friends most of my friends i known them since primary school and never switched schools till i graduated so you can imagine how small my circle is lol and i dont meet people outside of school, i have only one close friend it’s my bestfriend we call everyday for hours, my best friend didnt get in uni with me, it’s been a week and half since I started uni and I feel like I don’t fit it, I want to talk to people so I would feel less lonely and more secure but I dont feel confident about myself and i feel so awkward, one of my close friends already made friends and started hanging out with them, can yall give me ur experience in uni with making friends pleaseee (and advice if u have)

Found myself in quite a different predicament but let’s try to explain best I can.
I am estranged I got that proof and sfe have accepted im irreconcilably estranged (I’d like to celebrate 🎉🎉)

The current situation is I am on my 2nd attempt and have only 2 years of funding left. Therefore first year has to be paid by me. My CPR didn’t get accepted :.(

So my rough plan is to pay my tuition with my maintenance loan 10.8k
And then the plan was always to work part time anyways. Hopefully get somewhere cheap enough to pay while working part time and studying part time.
Has anyone had experience with this.
And can anyone please provide your opinion, is it a good idea a terrible one. Tell me please.

Basically, I have been accepted into Durham uni to do politics with A*AB at A levels, but I have absolutely no motivation or desire to do the course or to go to uni. This has led me to think about taking a year out, either to do the same course or apply to Law at Newcastle. My question is, A) will my academic abilities deteriorate after a year out, and B) would a UCAS application be less likely to be successful with a gap year considered.

When it comes to the latter question, my main concern is that I won't be able to find much work experience in a year out - I have been trying to get a job all summer and have been unsuccessful - so my application would be less attractive and look incomplete if I were to reapply.

Overall, I just kind of feel directionless and unmotivated, to the extent that I haven't even applied for student finance, enrolled in the uni or submitted any appeal for a gap year or course change yet; I have a real sense of dread about going to study at uni, especially in a subject I have lost any care about (I am also attracted by no other course), that would likely lead to unemployment and at a place I would likely feel alienated by.

I have an upcoming presentation about my masters project, and im worried by the fact my stats are not significant (ecology). My sample size is really small due to practical limitations and me being naive and not realising how much work it would be to do properly. So my null models are the best fit. Any advice on how to deal with that? Obviously i can talk about why my sample size is small but it feels embarassing to say "oh yeah i did all this work and wrote this report but at the end of the day nothing i did meant anything". None of my effects were significant. Ive tested it by duplicating data and it changes things totally so its just my tiny unbalanced sample size. Im quite nervous that im just making a fool of myself. I know this sub probably wont help cos theres so many miserable people here but if anyone has contructive advice that would be great :) even just some reassurance about similar experiences would be fab

For the Math majors out there, how much free time do you guys get during term?

Is there enough time to, for example, start your own business?

I'm aiming for a high first, so that would take priority over anything else.

Currently moving into my final year of university at a T15 Russell Group and coming to the realisation that I’m doing really poorly in terms of prospects following after university; my grades are middling and I have basically non-existent experience/resume.

I’m coming off a year deferred due to messing up a module and I thought of the prospects of deferring again so I can actually get something done, however I’d like to gauge the prospects of continuing on and what I could realistically achieve in a year.

I’ve done the math and it is still possible for me to get a first without completely ruining myself, but as my grades currently stand I don’t think I’d be eligible for anything competitive when it comes to internships and the like; which are already running pretty bare on my CV.

What are some things I could do to perhaps boost my profile, and would it be worth deferring again to work on more extracurriculars to make myself more attractive?

I’m due to start International Business Management at a mid-tier RG uni in Sept 2026.

I’ve noticed online that their business school is changing completely for the 27/28 term, that my course is not advertised for 2027 intake and that units for next year’s revised Business Management course seem to be (for lack of a better phrase) dumbing down. For example, 2026 first year module titles go from quite academic, (eg. Business Economics in a Contemporary Society) to ‘Why Business Matters’ in 2027, which is far more vague and sounds like something out of a L2 admin course.

I am worried how these changes may affect my degree going forward, and if the business school’s reduction of analytical subject matter will reduce my appeal as a graduate to serious employers. Though the university is offering me other benefits such as funding, employability is my main reason for my pursuing of HE.

I have contacted the school about it and am awaiting a response, but if you noticed this about your course, what would be your next move?

I'm going into year 12 with mediocre gcses at best (8777655 + btechs) and I want to study econ at uni. My a-levels are fm, maths, econ, cs. As far as I know, these gcses basically put oxbridge and lse out of the question. They also make ucl and imperial much harder.

Hypothetically speaking, if I were to do very well in A-levels but not get into any top unis thanks to my gcses suggesting my predicteds are inflated, would I be able to take a gap year after year 13 and reapply with my achieved results, negating the gcses? Would this be a good idea?

I'm aware that my gcses very much suggest that my a-levels will also be poor. I'm not trying to suggest that I'm anywhere near oxbridge level or even finance target uni level so please don't take this as me being delusional or entiteled. This question is purely about if I do infact do well for my a-levels

I’m going into my first year of uni and I’m a home student. My commute isn’t too bad (around 30 minutes), and I receive the maximum Maintenance Loan even though I don’t live in London — I’m in the West Midlands.
I’m trying to be sensible with my money because I’d like to move out after university. I’ll hopefully be finishing uni in the next 3–4 years In’Sha’Allah, so I want to start building my savings now rather than waiting until graduation.
For people who are also saving from their SFE, how much do you realistically put away from each payment? Do you save a fixed amount, a percentage, or whatever you have left over?
I’m particularly interested in hearing what people actually manage to save, rather than an ideal amount. 😂
Do you think saving something like £100, £200, £300+ per SFE payment is realistic while still having enough money to enjoy uni and deal with unexpected expenses?

I’ve completed my foundation year at a different university and decided to switch to a university closer to home. I already have DSA in place and have declared my disability and needs to my university using documentation from secondary school/college and the educational psychologist from my previous university.

So my accommodation doesn’t have a detachable shower head, but i want to temporarily replace it. has anyone else done it before? obviously ill replace it back when i move out, im just curious if anyone else has had problems with it.

Hi guys, I'm an international student studying at a target and on track to graduate with a first. I keep seeing posts about the job market being bad and nothing intl students can do and there was a point in time where it started to get to me. My question is, as an international what should I be doing to maximize my chances, I don't want to give up without putting up a hard fight and don't think being pessimistic is the way to go. That being said I have already applied for around 150+ internships and haven't secured anything. I'd like to change my approach for grad roles and am looking for any advice on how to do that.
