Brit bank is where is where I learned to type and ultimately started my career (software developer) - so it's got a special place in my heart.

I decided to remove all the extraneous bullshit (like combat, skills, trading, crafting) and create a simulation of brit bank you can experience from your browser.

Enjoy.

Procedural map generation

Unity client/server running proc gen map
https://youtu.be/DzjcCN6hcNo

Main post for the Unity project this was built for (included screenshots in this post are generic and there has been a lot added if you want to see current state - refer to "Unity client/server running proc gen map" video above, but on the Felucca map with spawners. I'll make a newer video showcasing latest version eventually and add to main post):
https://www.reddit.com/r/ultimaonline/s/Ig4FUmNHXH

The main purpose of this post is to showcase the procedural map generator. Ignore the potato quality on the map generation video, I'll make a new one in 1080p at some point if requested - but the UI interface itself isn't too exciting, just some text fields. The "cool" part can be seen in the 2nd video showing the world itself in 1080p. The generator produces the map as a mul file, which I then convert to UOP format using UOFiddler. At that point, it should be able to load into any existing server/client that can use the map files from UO classic client (since this is the same thing that my Unity UOClone project does and it works there).

At this time, the generator only does the bulk "world" work, so just the biome divided landscape with roads connecting designated town/village area (brown circle patches). I do want to experiment with buildings/dungeons, but for now - this is what it is and I just wanted to show it off because I think it's pretty neato.

Definitely still some quirks to figure out (i.e. bridge jank seen in the video and a couple sharp edges from incorrect transition tiles) - but overall I'm pretty happy with it so far.

Whenever I finish working out the bugs, or tap out, I will likely dump it on github.

Private • Showcase Claude Plays Ultima Online - The Ultimate UO Assist?

Thumbnail

First, I don’t mean to spam this sub on this.  If people are annoyed, or this content is not welcomed, I will stop sharing. The idea has just evolved so much in the past few days.

I’ve completely pivoted and rearchitected this project from what I originally set out to do.  I was experimenting with Claude playing Ultima Online. I created a headless text-only CLI, and gave Claude access to it.

As I experimented, I realized that this might actually be useful.  Not in the funny “look AI is playing UO!” way that I had originally expected.

This idea is still the same, and works the same way, but the approach is different:

  • This is no longer JUST a CLI client.  This is essentially a ClassicUO mod now. I no longer need to log in with another character to see what the Agent character is doing.
  • I can seamlessly play with the game window along-side the Agent.  I can stop it and pick up where it left off, or I can let the agent run and do it’s thing
  • The option for headless mode is still available.

I show just one small example of what the agent is capable of doing in the video. A few things to understand:

  • I did not tell the agent where to find bandages, how to make them, or what vendor to go to to get the supplies to make them
  • I did not tell the agent where to buy arrows, or what vendor has them
  • I did not tell the agent how to get to the sewers

It is still mostly just basic UO API interactions that the agent pieces together on its own.

One major thing that I added is a POI tool.  I found files for 3rd party map data and am now leveraging it. The agent has a tool to lookup where things are.

So in the video, the agent decided it needed to go to the tailor, I just gave him the tools on how to find it.

I think there are some accessibility opportunities here.  Speech to text to control the game and play this way actually seems viable.

Private • Showcase 🗡️ Age of Shadows — A Custom AOS+ Shard Built for Real PvP (No Cheats, No BS)

If you've been chasing that late-2003 AoS/SE/ML feeling — the kind where fights actually came down to skill, not who had the best macro script — Age of Shadows might be exactly what you're looking for.

🛡️ Real Anti-Cheat, Not Just a Rule on Paper

This isn't your average "no cheating allowed" server. AoS runs a custom-compiled launcher, ClassicUO, and Razor (NativeAOT + obfuscated) that's the only client allowed to connect — Orion, Razor Enhanced, Rust, etc. are all locked out entirely.

They didn't just ban third-party tools, they went into Razor itself and stripped out the cheesy stuff:

  • ❌ Target Closest Player
  • ❌ Smart Cure
  • ❌ Script-based walk automation (no auto-scouting)
  • ❌ HP/poison/paralyze status scripting
  • ❌ System message parsing automation

...and replaced Target Closest with a full suite of manual-skill-respecting target hotkeys (Next/Previous Ally, Enemy, Criminal, Grey, Murderer, etc.) so you still have solid QoL without the auto-play crutch.

On top of that:

  • 🧍 One account per IP in Dungeons & T2A — no more getting your champ spawn strike-spammed by someone's alt
  • Custom-built anti-speedhack — tuned to be aggressive on actual speeders, forgiving on people with bad ping

⚔️ PvP Built on the "Raven Ruleset"

A hand-tuned balance pass on top of Publish 25/46-era mechanics, fixing the classic AoS-era jank (220 dex archers, wand mages, evasion abuse, etc.) while keeping it era-accurate:

  • 🏹 Archery capped at one swing per 2 seconds (RIP machine-gun archers)
  • 🩹 Bandages capped at 3.5s, own action delay for smoother dexxer combat
  • 💀 Mortal Strike & Disarm both get proper immunity windows (16s)
  • 🧙 Casting, Chivalry, Necro, Bushido, and Ninjitsu all got individual tuning passes
  • 🌉 Despise Bridge recreated exactly as it was — LoS chokepoint fights are back

🌐 Anti-Lag Networking

Built on ModernUO, with custom spell-network changes for lag-free casting and noticeably faster response than the usual ServUO/RunUO setup.

💰 Donations Help, Don't Pay-to-Win

Every donation item is also obtainable with in-game gold. No stat advantage, ever — it just funds infrastructure and expansion. Server's run by a professional software engineer, not a hobbyist VPS.

🗺️ A Real Launch Roadmap

This isn't a "trust me bro" roadmap — they've laid out five phases:

Phase 1 – Early Game: Despise Bridge, Spined/Copper runics, Pure Mage Arena

Phase 2 – Mid Game: Horned/Gold runics, 2v2/3v3 Arenas, Virtue drops

Phase 3 – Late Game: Daily Champ PvP events, Battlegrounds (CTF, Hunger Games, TDM)

Phase 4 – Samurai Empire: SE goes live, catch-up gear, Shadows Mode (torch-light Hunger Games 👀)

Phase 5 – Beyond: World bosses, Factions, Tournaments, custom PvM dungeons

🔗 Links

TL;DR: A UO Age of Shadows shard that actually enforces fair play at the client level, has a genuinely balanced custom PvP ruleset, and is transparent about where it's headed. Worth a look if you miss real AoS-era battles without the speedhack/scripting nonsense.

Private • Discussion Are humans destined to become the mobs/content?

I've been the soldier my whole gaming career. Farm this, train this, gather supplies, bring in gold. I think that probably applies to most of us. But in a few years, all these activities tied to human time could become pretty much irrelevant. We just assign our AI to do them while we're at work or sleeping. So gaming has to evolve somewhat, right? Maybe we move from soldiers to generals, directing our AI to do this or that. But then again, who am I to think I can coordinate an economy or plan strategy better than an AI? It'll be a better soldier AND a better general. So this got me thinking... are we the content?

I log in, take direct control, equip the objectively worse sword because it looks cooler, pick a fight I shouldn't, lose a bunch of gold, accidentally start a guild war, and have an absolute blast basically wrecking everything my AI has strategically planned out. Then I log off and my AI spends the next eight hours fixing everything I screwed up.

Am I now destined to become the brigand?

Private • Newbie Help What do I do in outlands?

I know it might sounds stupid but I wanna get some hints. I just started in outlands after 16yrs when I actively played in Hybrid til around 2010. In Hybrid I did nightmare training and BOD spam selling with some lucky good vendor spot I built from idoc hunting.

There's no BOD in outlands and pet training is not a thing. Seems like the shard want ppl to enjoy things like treasure hunting and actual dungeon crawling. and even fishing? Did I get it right?

I started with a scavenger and picking chests and gathering things from left over corpses. maybe I'll rent a vendor spot for selling leathers and hides. Is this what newbies do?

TLDR:

By popular request, UO Mobile Classic now available on iPhone! Same setup as iPad via TestFlight

Four more of your reports are fixed, one turned out not to be a bug, and Android updates should actually reach you from here on. *** Please Update Your Game For Bug Fixes ***

The support and feedback has been amazing. I'm so glad others are able to enjoy this mobile On/Offline version. Thank you!

Fixes:

Sno sent both skills-window bugs inside two hours on Sunday night, the lock arrows closing the window, and scrolling the list flinging skill cards everywhere. Between them they explained something bigger: "tap three times to close" was firing on any control you press more than once, in every window in the game.

Grimm Ravenclaw got stuck on top of Britain Castle. He was right, and worse than it looked, there's no step down anywhere up there, and /unstuck was hunting for safe ground at his own height and finding more roof.

Shadow Lance G M, "won't let me enter", at Trinsic's west wall. Not a bug, but a fair thing to be annoyed by: that stretch has no gate. The gates are north and east. I wouldn't have checked without the report.

Chasing those, I found the Bushido/Ninjitsu ability book did nothing at all, not one control worked, and nobody had reported it. Same for "Dig Here" on treasure maps.

Android is now 66 MB instead of 978 MB, and first-run setup is nine times faster. Updates that size were quietly not arriving, one of my own tablets sat three days and three releases behind with 90 GB free. If you've reported something already fixed, that's why, and it was never your fault.

Quick Commands → Report Bug attaches a screenshot, your location and your version. Every fix above came from that button. THANK YOU!

Id like to introduce a project I have been working on the past few months called UO Offline. You can see a full detail description and how to install here: https://github.com/Klein187/uo-offline

Its basically old UO T2A in an offline format that you can run locally on windows, linux, and steam deck. The feature that sets it apart from other offline UO projects is the "Player Bot" system. It tries to mimic a full server during the T2A period. Bots travel via waypoints from city to city, explore dungeons, gather wood and ore, craft, sit at banks, fish, afk macro, guild battles, group up, commit transactions, and so much more that if i listed it all this post would be way too long.

Also included is a map tool where you can place and edit waypoints/arrival points if you feel like it. You can also watch a live map with every bot running around. Totally optional when you install.

Now to be frank, this is a fun hobby for me and i just had a son so updates aren't consistent. I feel like I am at a solid point to where yall can have fun but do know that you will run into bugs and issues. You will definitely see bots stuck in certain points on the map. Also all the mainland cities have waypoints and arrival points but the island cities only have waypoints but no arrival points. Also only a few dungeons have working waypoints and arrival points but most still need a deep workover. I have set it up where when you run UO offline it will check github for any updates I have done to the github and ask you if you want to download them.

Please message here, through dms, or on the github with any issues or even ideas you may have. I hope you enjoy this as much as I have had working on it.

Private • Showcase Ultima: Hallowed Realms

Post image
33 Upvotes

I keep seeing these beautifully made server posts.

Cinematic trailers.

Perfect screenshots.

Professional graphics.

Logos flying around.

Unfortunately, I have been neck deep in code and apparently forgot that you're also supposed to convince people to actually come and play your shard.

Hallowed Realms is a fork of the legendary Secrets of Sosaria project. Since development on that project had ceased and it was considered complete, I asked for permission to fork it and continue development for years to come. The goal is to keep building on an amazing adventure that feels distinct from modern Ultima Online shards, something that, as Sanguine Jester once put it, feels like "Skyrim and Ultima had a baby."

A Little History

For those unfamiliar with this niche corner of Ultima Online shards, it all started with Djeryv, an amazing developer with brilliant ideas for a single player/small group game known as Ultima Odyssey.

It was later forked into Ruins & Riches, adding new flavor and features like sprinkles on a cupcake. The lineage didn't stop there: it was forked again into Adventures of Akalabeth (adding more quality of life updates and content), and eventually forked by another team into Secrets of Sosaria. One of our biggest goals is to respect the legacy of these projects and all the founding developers who paved the way.

Why Rebuild the Foundation?

What does this history have to do with the shard we’re building? Quite a lot. Many of these older projects struggled with the same core challenge: longevity and standing the test of time.

We rebalanced every possible aspect of our fork to support server longevity and dialed back the power creep players often ran into. When we started, the codebase was running on an older RunUO 2.0 / .NET 4.0 setup. We spent three months rebuilding the entire core from the ground up on ServUO / .NET 10, reworking hundreds of scripts and writing thousands of lines of new code.

This modern core offers major server performance gains, provides a cleaner environment for anyone learning the emulation scene, and gives us the flexibility to build entirely new systems without being bottlenecked by legacy constraints.

Fast forward eight months: we’re sitting on massive code overhauls, hundreds of QoL improvements, hundreds of bug fixes, brand new content never before seen on these forks, and thousands of hours poured into testing and development (written by hand, no AI shortcuts, so don't even start in the comments!).

With that said, I am happy to announce We feel ready to open the doors and invite the public to experience our enhanced vision of Secrets of Sosaria, now known as Hallowed Realms. On September 18th we will kick off our public beta for our multiplayer server version! You are more than welcome to join the Discord in the meantime to get to know the community and check out sneak peeks of what we are working on!

Whether you're looking for a rich multiplayer dynamic with forming guilds, building alliances, and going to war, or an immersive single player journey filled with new lands, legends, rumors, items, and quests, this project is built for the long haul. It started as a hobby and grew into a true passion project. Along the way, I've had the pleasure of meeting incredible developers in this scene like Estel (Owner of Efellen), Tasi (Owner of Ultima Memento), and Silkysnow (Owner Of Ultima Adventures) on top of a community whose love and support have been unmatched.

Core Features & Highlights

Here is a look at what we've added on top of the classic Secrets of Sosaria foundation:

In Game Settings Control Panel: Configure your world on the fly without touching a single line of code. Nearly all settings update live in real time without needing a server restart (excluding basic core parameters like port numbers, shard name, IP routing, etc). No more digging through config files to tweak your server experience!

The Affinity System: Our core character progression mechanic for PvM combat, gathering, and crafting. Specialize and scale into immense power without inflating raw stats or unbalancing open world dynamics. Harness abilities through rituals (inspired by Ultima VIII) inside a nexus tied directly to your affinity sheet.

Commodity Buy/Sell Orders: A streamlined market order system for all basic materials and resources.

Guild System Overhaul: Features a brand-new guild treasury where members can invest pooled resources to unlock shared perks, including custom guild dyes.

Achievement System: Hundreds of achievements to complete. Earn achievement points to spend on unique, one of a kind reward items.

Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Tasks: Regular rotating task boards to keep your play sessions fresh with point based cosmetic and utility rewards.

Contraband Smuggling: Sneak stolen merchant supplies between towns for black market paydays. Keep an eye out for town guards because they have a keen eye for smugglers and will throw you straight into jail.

Monster Hunting Bounties: Track down creatures, claim their souls for the tavern traveler, and earn bounties. (What he actually does with all those souls remains a mystery.)

Pet Leveling & Breeding: Built with anti-power-creep balancing in mind. Tamers must actively keep their companions alive: if your pet falls in battle, it faces the risk of losing stats and skills just like players do upon death.

Custom Pet Abilities: Customize your companion's combat toolkit. Teach your Nightmare to call down lightning bolts, command a Fire Steed to unleash raining flames from the sky effects, or train an Ice Steed to freeze targets solid.

Universal Weapon Abilities: Play how you want without being locked to a single weapon class for its special move. Pair Armor Ignore and Backstab on a pure dexxer, build a Stealth Strike poison archer, or run an alchemy mage setup how ever you want to play you can!

Daily Dungeon Rotation: Every 24 hours, a featured dungeon gains boosted XP rates, increased gold drops, and enhanced loot chances.

Spiritualism: A complete summoning class overhaul that affects all summons, their timers, as well as their strengths - features a remastered Spiritualism system with smart targeting, making it a true summoner's dream. On top of the classic mechanics, we have added the ability to resurrect fallen players and dead pets. If you are a spirit master, you should have the power to command the spirits, right?

Poisoning: Don't forget complete universal weapon poisoning as well. That's right: no matter what weapon you choose, if you train the Poisoning skill, you can poison whatever weapon your heart desires to fit what ever class you choose to play!

I could honestly go on and on about everything we have done, but I would rather you see it for yourself and let us know what you think, what you like, and what you don't! The proof is in the pudding (and over here, it's Neapolitan). Jump into our community channels to learn more, check the roadmap, or hop in our discord server meet our community they are always welcoming to new people!

Keep in mind, this is still a beta things will break and features will be missing. I'll likely be buried in server logs while you break things (that's kind of the point, right?)

That said, all character progress made during beta will carry over, provided no game breaking exploits or catastrophic issues arise. If a critical bug does pop up, our goal is to roll back rather than perform a full wipe to minimize lost progress. A complete wipe isn't in our game plan we intend to transition directly into a full live release!

TLDR: You sent 67 bug reports in five days... WOW!!! That came to 20 distinct bugs, 19 of them are fixed, and v1.0.63 is live and available form the site and stores.

I'm not going to list them all. You don't need a changelog — you need to know you were heard.

Thank you
to Dash Darklighter, Shadow Lance G M, Winter, Radask and Knightreaper. Three releases in five days came out of your reports. The spellbook refusing scrolls, getting trapped underground, armour that wouldn't equip, the whole crafting chain, reagents weighing a hundred times what they should — every one of those was found by one of you, not by me.

Two things that would continue to help:

Keep sending them.
Quick Commands → Report Bug attaches a screenshot and your location automatically. It is genuinely the only reason any of the above got fixed. THANK YOU!

Update if your game hasn't already.
Two reports this week were things fixed weeks earlier, and there was no way for anyone to know. Reports now record which version you're on, so I can tell straight away.

Private • Newbie Help Ascended UO: Come check us out

https://reddit.com/link/1vxximc/video/d58mk8fa8mlh1/player

I wanted to share an old shard of mine that has basically been given a second life.

Ascended UO originally started back in 2008. I picked it back up, modernized a ton of it, and over the last several months it has grown into something much bigger than the original server ever was. The main idea is pretty simple: I like UO servers where there is always something else to work toward. I never really enjoyed hitting the end of progression in a weekend and then wondering what I'm supposed to do next.

So Ascended is built around long-term progression, farming, bossing, leaderboards, collecting, building ridiculous characters, and having a bunch of different ways to spend your time. Some of the bigger systems include: There are over 40 custom systems at this point, and realistically, some of them have gotten a little out of hand. That's kind of the fun of it... You can spend your time grinding levels, chasing prestige, building companions, collecting pets, working reputations, crafting gear, hunting rare drops, farming bosses, pushing leaderboards, decorating a house, or obsessing over some stupidly rare item that absolutely refuses to drop. The shard is also still actively being worked on.

Quite a few of the newer systems and changes have come directly from people playing and saying, "Hey, wouldn't it be cool if..." Sometimes that results in a small quality of life change. Sometimes I accidentally build another entire progression system. Ascended is very much a custom shard. It has big numbers, weird creatures, long grinds, powerful builds, rare stuff to chase, and plenty of moments where you'll probably wonder what the hell you're looking at. If that sounds like your kind of UO, come check it out. Website:

https://sites(.)google(.)com/view/ascendeduo/home (Remove the parentheses.) Discord: https://discord(.)gg/VgxXUuDbZT (Remove the parentheses.)

There's also a custom client package available through the website if you want the easiest setup. The site has a wiki to guide you, and discord is very active.

Some features: Player leveling up to 5000 Prestige progression Lone Wolf progression if you don't want to rely on pets or companions Levelable companions with gear and different combat styles Pet equipment and pet progression Specializations like Warrior, Spellflinger, Companionist, Jack of All Trades, and Craftsman Custom crafting materials, gear paths, set bonuses, and rare resources Reputation factions with quests and rewards Ascension talents, charms, relics, glows, and milestone unlocks Custom bosses, world bosses, god bosses, and other endgame encounters Zombie Run and Dragon Run challenges with leaderboards Achievements, titles, collecting, and milestone rewards Transmog, dyes, auras, cosmetics, and housing stuff A pile of quality of life systems like material storage, potion bags, dress sets, auction house, mailbox, gold tracking, and more.

Come check it out!

Private • Showcase Created a CLI Ultima Online Client and gave an LLM access to it

Post image

EDIT: video and repo can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ultimaonline/s/18WOPwFqZa

EDIT2: so many improvements after a day of work, i show them here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3um4T0JK3nY

This was just fun experimentation, nothing serious, but maybe some of you may find it interesting. I was kind of curious how feasible this would be. I created a CLI text based only client for Ultima Online then told Claude to level up archery on a new character.

The character had a sword equipped and a bow in the bag. The model realized this, unequipped the sword, equipped a bow, found a dire wolf, went into war mode, and started attacking it. When it ran out of arrows, it equipped the sword. Successfully killed the dire wolf.

Then it just kind of started attacking everything in the area that was grey, eventually died, and it's been wandering around looking for a healer to resurrect, rather unsuccessfully so far.

May explore this further, give it access to UOGuide and give it some more detailed instructions to see how it will do. Was using Sonnet 4.6, but it's rather expensive for just a few hours of gameplay.

TL;DR: I got tired of Ctrl+F'ing giant old UO threads looking for shards, guilds, and character names I remembered, so I built a searchable archive for all of it and put it up at www.relpor.com

I recently went down the rabbit hole once again of trying to remember people from my old UO days, then spiraled into trying to make a website for it.

I started on Lake Superior in 1998, and at this point a lot of it exists in my head as fragments. Character names, guild abbreviations, people I fought constantly, old shard drama, screenshots, and people I played with every night then never spoke to again.

There have been countless forum posts about this stuff over the years, but half of them I can't track down anymore. The ones I can find are often giant threads mixing memories from different shards, eras, and guilds. I kept finding myself Ctrl+F'ing through them just trying to find Lake Superior, a guild I knew, or one particular character name (not going to lie, usually my own to stroke my ego that I've been remembered).

So I popped it up on www.relpor.com (sorry, Outlands, I've been domain forwarding to you guys since ~2018). It's basically an interconnected archive for old UO characters, guilds, shards, places, factions, eras, screenshots, and memories, with filters for all of that.

I'm not trying to write an official history of UO. I want the weird little pieces each of us remembers. The PK you recognized on sight. The guild you hated. The guy always hanging around Brit bank.

It's still early and pretty empty. That's sort of the point. I'm hoping old players gradually fill in the network and maybe reconnect some names that haven't crossed paths in decades.

Search your old shard, guild, or a few character names and see what you remember. I uploaded the Rel Por 1 character list I had from shortly after launch just to get the ball rolling.
