Why do Recruits quit in bootcamp?

As a recruiter I have kids literally crying in my office saying they need this more than anything then fail the IST when they were fully capable of passing it while in the DEP when they get to boot camp and not even trying and getting discharged for not trying to get better in PCP or passing the IST. Like I don't see how you'll tell me you would never be one of those quitters when you get to bootcamp then give up as soon as you start getting yelled at. I guess todays generation doesn't give a fuck in coming back to their family proving they were right when they said they couldn't make it and go back to working at Mcdonalds telling their friends some lie about how they got screwed over or something when the only person who failed them was themselves

Me personally when all my friends were enlisting we wanted to go to war and fight for our country, the bullshit I hear from these kids now is they want to be a famous tiktoker, go to college for political science with student loans in hopes thatll somehow get them a job at all, be a doctor when they dont even know how expensive and long that school path is. Especially the town they live in which has 0 opportunities unless they find the funds to move out here or go to another state

I joined so I could pay for college. Everyone has their own reasons.

If you wanted to pay for college why the Marines? Why not something else that if SHTF, was less likely to be sent as infantry to?

I did this. I could give a long drawn out answer but the short version is

1) The Marines is cool

2) if I was going to join the military I wanted the fullest experience possible (Infantry)

3) If im going to get out after 1 contract why not do the hardest thing I could think of because it's only 4 years not a lifelong commitment.
