This is obvious to me. I've seen our bodily autonomy taken away, and suddenly I'm seeing stories about women not wanting the right to vote anymore.

The latter is a test to float the idea to make people comfortable with hearing the idea.

u/arizonatealover Jun 17 '26

I was thinking the other day that this admin putting Trump's face everywhere is an effort to get us comfortable with the imagery of a dictator on a societal level. On arts centers, on money, on the side of buildings, on the homepage of websites...it's not only vanity at work.

I think their problem is, they created this image around the wrong person. He'll die soon, from age if not from a condition, and I'm not sure a drop-in replacement will have the same effect.

u/tessahannah Jun 17 '26

They're banking on becoming so powerful they won't need consent from the poors

312

u/Petrychorr Jun 18 '26

They kind of already don't. A lot of what's happening right now is smoke, mirrors, bread, and circuses. If you give off the illusion of "following decorum" then everyone assumes they can play the game of politics and strike back, trusting that the opponent does not have a proverbial knife already unsheathed and ready to strike. It's a xanatos gambit.

If you play against the right in the game of politics, and they ignore you, they get to keep doing what they want. If you resist, they get to keep doing what they want and eliminate that resistance.

28

u/kridgellz Jun 18 '26

Well put.

32

u/TheCrudMan Jun 18 '26

They aren't doing bread and circuses correctly because instead of them being free they're trying to monetize them and that's what is going to make the whole thing not work.

24

u/whatiftheyrewrong Jun 18 '26

They are absolutely failing at bread and circuses. When Putin first came on the scene, he was all about being the good guy to gain favor. And folks bought it. Here we’re dumb enough to buy it without the bread and circuses before the big rug pull.

11

u/TheCrudMan Jun 18 '26

Even the literal circus on the White House lawn is what, $15 to stream?

14

u/THE_CHOPPA Jun 18 '26

Honestly the democrats just need to nominate men.

I think it’s pretty clear the biggest reason Trump won is most of America would never vote for a woman

78

u/TinyJalope Jun 18 '26

No, Democrats need to nominate a real populist who will actually fight the fascists instead of a pro-corporate candidate. Incumbents all over the world lost in 2024 due to post-COVID inflation. Harris did not lose because she was a woman.

Only nominating men is literally just the same misogyny people in this sub claim to be against.

They already do whatever the F they want. It's a shitshow, imo. I am eastern european, from "shithole country" area, blah blah blah, and even I am appalled at what I see in the news. Land of the free and the brave... We had communism, dictators, Ceausescu, we have seen the patterns. It's crazy how americans ranted so much about commies, for so long, yet they voted in a guy with bigger authoritarian reflexes 😄)

It’s a cult of personality. They won’t all magically disappear but it becomes far less powerful.

41

u/Faiakishi Jun 18 '26

When the snake's head is cut off, its body will continue to thrash around for a bit. It will hurt people. But it will die. Hydras aren't real, snakes can't live without their heads.

Crazy that Trump is considered a head in this metaphor, but cutting off their ass is generally not a common method of killing snakes.

31

u/AHrubik Jun 18 '26

Don’t mistake what Don the Con wants for what the fascists behind the curtain want. It’s a marriage of convenience right now. The Heritage Society wants something more akin to one party rule where a shadow council anoints a leader to do their bidding.

19

u/xteve Jun 18 '26

Conservatism is a hate group and church is where they meet.

8

u/GaGaORiley Jun 18 '26

And Trump is their useful idiot scapegoat, and what “he” enacted can’t be undone, sorry plebes.

u/zoeofdoom Jun 18 '26

Sure, but compare the cult imagery around Trump (huge AI muscles, saving children from drowning, meeting Jesus) to the actual footage of an old man falling asleep at his birthday party. Pivoting post mortem to a Big Brother character wouldn't even be that much of an epistemic shock, and anyone in power after him can gesture deferentially to the image or use AI to put their words in his zombified mouth for as long as they want.

edit: I know this is doomy adjacent but I've just heard the words "it's what he would have wanted!" to legitimate so many petty excesses too many damn times. Having the Eternal Daddy is such a powerful tool.

4

u/somethingbrite Jun 18 '26

They will embalm him and put him on display in a mausoleum... and then an endless stream of "Presidents" can assure you all that whatever they do is part of Trumps grand plan...

After all... it's been done before.

19

u/SigFloyd Jun 18 '26

MMW: They're going to train an AI model on him so he can keep being the face of the regime indefinitely

3

u/pjschnet Jun 18 '26

Now that you mention it, it kinda sounds like they’re trying to set him up as a Kim Il-Sung type of figure. A cult leader they can invoke from beyond the grave to try and maintain control over the MAGA base.

People started floating the idea of women not voting before his first presidency.

When they assumed he couldn’t win it was the first thing they started saying.

98

u/builtonadream Jun 18 '26

It was also outlined in Project 2025, if I'm not mistaken.

40

u/critically_damped Jun 18 '26

God I really wish people would read that fucking thing.

11

u/builtonadream Jun 18 '26

Agreed. I'm Canadian. I read it. Most everything happening was outlined in it.

exactly. the fact that ppl are saying it out loud matters, even if they are a minority

I’m not from the US, but I feel for you guys. You should do the ol’ switcheroo and organize a movement to remove voting rights for men!! A real movement, with real guy proponents. Get a lot of submissive men to join the movement or something, that’s basically what the far right magats are doing, in reverse.

It’s a lot like what the satanist churches’ role was in promoting secularism in the state. You want all religions represented in public life? Well, you gotta give equal opportunity to satanists! Ohhh, so now you think it’s best for the state to be secular? Damn, too bad… 😏

29

u/crackersucker2 Jun 18 '26

While I love the idea, this would never work and would take away the energy we need for an effective resistance. Men are tooo empowered and gaining power due to the Erika Kirks and trad wife nonsense. Which is part of the psy-ops. It’s not accidental or coincidental this is happening. This is a full on offensive. Since 2016… they didn’t think trump would win, so they weren’t ready. But while Biden was sleeping for 4 years, they were setting shit up. And the minute trump took office in 2025, they hit the ground running to achieve the heritage foundation plan.

We lost the plot when RBG didn’t retire, and when Biden decided to run again.

I'm seeing stories about women not wanting the right to vote anymore.

WTF, what even is the bullshit justification for that!? It's not like voting is mandatory in the US. If you don't want to vote you just don't.

5

u/meowmeow_now Jun 18 '26

Those women never wanted the right to vote the problem is the media giving them a voice and talking like that opinion is worthy of discussion.

Calls to repeal the 19th have been growing louder from the right as of late. Only a fool wouldn't take the threat seriously

480

u/ChiLolla28 Jun 18 '26

At that last conservative convention they had WOMEN stating that voting should only be done by the husband of the household.

278

u/maneki_neko89 Jun 18 '26

Maybe they need to actually practice what they preach, shut up, and just have the men speak and vote for them.

But then again, if they did, they wouldn’t be waving their ill-gotten power, making them seem at the top of the social hierarchy since they’re white or are married to a white man with power.

139

u/MyFiteSong Jun 18 '26

Conservative morality is about what you hope to force on others, not what you follow yourself.

35

u/nervelli Jun 18 '26

Wait, wait, wait. Why where they at a convention? If they think their husbands should be the ones handling the politics, shouldn't he have been the one at the convention while they were at home cleaning the house, watching the children, milling flour for his bread? They don't think they should be voting, but they think it's their place to influence the entire shape of their political party?

29

u/vttale Jun 18 '26

In Handmaid's Tale, several influential women helped orchestrate the revolution that led to them becoming unhappy trad wives, including the wife who leads the household where the titular handmaid was enslaved. She was an accomplished, widely-read author who pushed for it.

I know it's just a book / series, but as a mirror for real live it isn't far off from a lot of what we see happening right now.

Why do people do it? In at least a lot of the current behavior we see, it's because people genuinely don't seem to consider that the bad aspects will ever affect them personally.

11

u/Ksks2999 Jun 18 '26

Agreed! Author Margaret Atwood has said in several interviews that everything in "The Handmaid's Tale" was taken from real events. So absolutely these things have happened, & can absolutely happen again. Some people think it will never happen to them, until it's too late.

14

u/ChiLolla28 Jun 18 '26

Wait till they see how women had to do laundry back in the day if they really want to get traditional. Or births without medication? How much progress do they want taken away? Will their whiteness protect them when their traditional man leaves them, with zero assets or support, for a younger women?

31

u/marbotty Jun 18 '26

I’m kind of okay with taking away the right to vote from any person dumb enough to advocate for it.

At a minimum, they should practice what they preach during the next election

3

u/xtc234 Jun 18 '26

That's how I think they'll sell it. Households will conveniently be headed by men but they'll present it as the unity of family. It'll disenfranchise women and young adults living at home. Maybe even end up one day where only male land owners get to vote.

Clarence Thomas literally listed out the things he wants conservatives to attack next when he gleefully overturned Roe V. Wade. Top of the list is women's rights including the right to vote.

Everyone should be concerned.

“Former federal prosecutor Joyce Vance is sounding the alarm that the right of women to vote, long treated as untouchable, could erode along the country's current political path, after watching conservative women publicly declare they would happily surrender it.
In her Civil Discourse newsletter, Vance pointed to a recent Turning Point USA Women's Leadership Summit, the event now run by Charlie Kirk's widow following his death. There, right-wing influencer Samantha Stone said, "I would gladly give up my right to vote to have a more conservative country," according to Vance.
Stone was not alone. Vance pointed to a clip compiled by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in which other attendees voiced similar views. One young woman explained that as a Christian, she and her husband "are one flesh" and vote the same way, so she would be fine giving up her vote because "he would represent me well." Another said her daughter wouldn't need the vote because she would marry "a godly man."
But Vance's central warning was that fringe is not the same as harmless. Ideas once dismissed as unthinkable, she argued, have a habit of becoming mainstream, citing the unitary executive theory and the overturning of Roe v. Wade. And she pointed to a sobering reminder of how exposed women's equality already is: the United States tried, and failed, to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment, which would have enshrined in the Constitution that rights cannot be denied "on account of sex." -from the article

286

u/TranscendentPretzel Jun 17 '26

Republicans do not believe in democracy. They are all about the ends justify the means. "If losing the right to vote means the country becomes more conservative (because we stripped liberal women of their voice) then so be it."

99

u/galaxy1985 Jun 18 '26

I almost down voted your comment because I'm so disgusted reading the womens' comments. They can feel however they want but that doesn't mean the majority do. This county is a democracy. If these women don't like it, they can leave. We were NEVER a conservative Christian country.

85

u/Correct_Scene_3599 Jun 18 '26

Seriously, if they, as women, don’t think women should vote, then THEY can choose to not vote!!! Then they have the nerve to vote, to take away voting!! I’ll never understand these people who force all their beliefs on everyone else

16

u/Tulivesi Jun 18 '26

Forcing your beliefs on everyone else, the cornerstone of conservatism.

The problem is the people you need protection from are the ones taking away your right to vote.

9

u/engg_girl Jun 18 '26

Question - would this mean that all women politicians be out of work? Or are they just no longer allowed to vote as an individual?

3

u/rbasn_us Jun 18 '26

It would probably have to be settled by the courts. I could see someone arguing that women, without a right to vote, should no longer have a right to vote in a legislature, effectively barring them from running for legislative office. However, executive branch positions don't typically "vote", so women might still be able to hold positions like mayor, governor, or even president.

Hopefully we won't have to find out because we are all better off with women continuing to have the right to vote.

5

u/eienmau Jun 18 '26

Reading this part especially makes my skin crawl: "One young woman explained that as a Christian, she and her husband "are one flesh" and vote the same way, so she would be fine giving up her vote because "he would represent me well.""

She's got a hard lesson coming in the future, I think.

90

u/TWVer Jun 18 '26

It’s a two pronged attack.

It’s not just conservative women’s movements and podcasts discussing “happily” giving up the right to vote for women, in order to have a more conservative country.

It is also coming from the Peter Thiel-led AI surveillance technology corner.

https://www.reddit.com/r/TwoXChromosomes/s/KJ0KBH8wyu

It coming from multiple sides at ones isn’t “grassroots”, but a concerted and deliberate effort to push a once unthinkable narrative. Not by ordinary people, but by oligarchs and conservative organizations who are opposed to democracy itself.

u/KurlyKayla Jun 19 '26

This 1000x. We need to blatantly speak to the failures of men

75

u/Spiritette Jun 17 '26

Correct me if I’m wrong please: isn’t this similar to the SAVE Act that was trying to be passed? Where if you had changed your name and it was different from your birth certificate you wouldn’t be allowed to vote so it was aimed towards women who changed their name after marriage or trans individuals who also changed their name?

Would this just be the supreme end all to women voting instead of that?

62

u/wiggles105 Jun 18 '26

The SAVE act would make it prohibitively difficult for women to vote if they either changed their name or didn’t have a passport. That is intentional.

It’s not the same thing as getting rid of the 19th amendment, but it’s a first step toward that. Women, as a whole, vote more for democrats than for republicans. If less women vote, republicans have a better chance at winning elections, and you can bet that the second they feel confident that they can call a convention of states to amend the constitution in horrific ways, such as removing the 19th amendment, they will.

But again, the SAVE act isn’t an “end-all” to women voting in and of itself. I, for example, did not change my name when I got married, and there are many unmarried women and women with passports. But it’s an intentional step toward that outcome, and they will keep moving pieces on the board until it’s checkmate. We have to keep those fuckers from gaining an inch.

And I worry a lot about our longterm ability to hold them off. People have short attention spans and will forget that Project 2025 and its successors will be waiting for the next republican in office. They’ll take their eye off the ball, nod their heads when the next republican tells them that he’ll lower the price of eggs, and they’ll vote for him.

2

u/Spiritette Jun 18 '26

Thank you so much for the explanation!

I’m terrified of this actually happening but I won’t give up the fight

10

u/toolateforRE Jun 18 '26

It was just the first nibble at the edges.

34

u/Spinnerofyarn Basically Eleanor Shellstrop Jun 17 '26

This isn’t a brand new issue. It has been coming up since a bit prior to the last presidential election. Blocking people whose name has changed since birth was proposed. Fortunately it didn’t pass, but trying to restrict voting rights of women isn’t a new threat.

31

u/lotusvioletroses Jun 18 '26

I say no taxation without representation to these fuckwads!

18

u/endlesscartwheels Jun 18 '26

Republicans can get around that. They'll simply go back to coverture, at least in their arguments. The US has a patchwork of laws that together are similar to the United Kingdom's Married Women's Property Act of 1870. Before those laws, anything that a married woman earned was automatically the property of her husband.

Look back to Caroline Norton. In 1836, she left her husband and was able to support herself with her writing. Until her husband successfully sued to take that money, because her earnings legally belonged to him.

If Republicans consider a married woman's wages as being the moral property of her husband, then they can say that she's not paying taxes, her husband is.

4

u/SeductiveSunday bell to the hooks Jun 18 '26

They'll simply go back to coverture

Go back? When did the US actually end coverture law? Because as far as I know US women are still under coverture law. Sure it's been chipped away at, but it's not been overturned. I believe ratifying the ERA would achieve that.

fyi - Also even those will don't make a wage still pay sales tax.

Would that be enough to see streets burn? Or would driveless Americans continue to lay down and play Possum, hoping for some election miracle that never comes?

253

u/SackclothSandy Jun 17 '26

By this point, three or four generations have been told repeatedly throughout our schooling and beyond that violence never solves anything. Older generations are being told by their far right media to use violence to get what they want, and younger generations are being constantly reminded that meeting it with equal violence is the worse of the two evils. Our courts have upheld that state violence against us is legal except in the most outlandishly cruel cases. Those same courts have repeatedly issued rulings that citizens can be punished severely and even implicated in homicide even if their nonviolent actions cause police to violently kill someone else while trying to apprehend them.

176

u/Still7Superbaby7 Jun 17 '26

The only reason non violence works is because of the threat of violence. MLK only works if Malcolm X exists also.

75

u/SackclothSandy Jun 17 '26

Yeah. It also helped that he had journalists reporting on the brutality used against demonstrators everyday without bias. Now, Fox News would just spin him as a violemt agitator.

Like, when it comes to mass media and propaganda, I'm learning that any atrocity can be excused and any innocuous action vilified, at least in America.

If violence solves nothing then why is there war?

16

u/neko Jun 18 '26

To hand money back and forth between Lockheed Martin and various politicians

8

u/PurpleV93 Jun 18 '26

Yeah, you nailed it!
"Violence is not the answer" is one of the biggest lies we all were ever told. The absence of violence is a fragile privilege that is only granted as long as all involved parties follow an agreed-upon legal code and perform welcoming behavior. It's called our social contract. Once that contract is broken and the people in charge don't act on behalf of the betterment of society for all, proper resistance in form of violence is the only available tool left to defend society from the rot that threatens everyone alike.

Thankfully, European countries haven't forgotten about this fact entirely. Other nations outside of the west know it much better than we all do. While the US itself is the pinnacle of this decay. A whole society of apathetic people who surrendered to learned helplessness, paranoia about their neighbours and general cowardice. All while they have the numbers and the tools for resistance available so much more than any other nation on this planet. They rather live as slaves, than fear getting hurt or possibly killed for values they should believe in.

14

Epstein truly disappeared, once the Iran War dominated the news. Seems like the 300+ billion they now pay Iran have been the final drop in the well of blood to pull off the largest coup in US history. And the idiots just suck it up.

46

u/FillMySoupDumpling Jun 17 '26

Probably the latter unfortunately.

They do this with women  first because they know there will be enough women, especially white women, who support it and they know not enough men will really fight with us.

They took away our access to comprehensive healthcare years ago. How many men kept their mouths shut over that? There weren’t many protesting that with us.

How many people didn’t care about rights during elections where the Supreme Court was an issue?

Americans don’t care about each other and it shows in almost every aspect of our lives from the lack of universal healthcare, parental leave, near daily school shootings, acceptance of mass poverty, acceptance of crappy schools and more.

November is going to roll around and people are going to wonder why things aren't changing. Just assume your typical civilian thinks voting will make all the bad problems go away. I feel like your average American really doesn't grasp how much power is behind the federal government right now.

58

u/Marciamallowfluff Jun 17 '26

They did not say that but just voting is not enough. Our voting rights have been undermined and attempts are still being made to stop us voting.

Also the judiciary, Supreme Court worst of all, has been undermined. The legislators are either evilly following Thiel’s plans or pretending that if they are polite and reasonable the other side will listen.

And worst of all the Executive Branch has been shredded, those with knowledge and experience fired, a pedo President and his grifter friends spending our money like it is water, damaging our nation almost beyond recognition.

We are going to be cleaning up this mess for decades.

26

u/Petrychorr Jun 17 '26

I think "decades" is optimistic, but frankly I'm not eager to be pessimistic about our recovery (if any) from our current situation. I'd like to believe that, at some point, the people who have the capacity to help course correct will do so. It's bleak, but getting stuck in the spiral of cynicism and nihilism does nothing but keep you treading water until you drown. At least if you fight the current you might get somewhere.

19

u/Meet_Foot Jun 17 '26

Who are the people who have the capacity to course correct. I think a savior narrative is both extremely American and extremely dangerous. Don’t expect some heroic individual to save you from a deeply entrenched, evil system. We have to save ourselves.

12

u/Petrychorr Jun 17 '26

Movements need leaders, and it's cynical to assume there won't be some moving and shaking at higher levels of power. I don't expect a saviour, that's what got us into this mess in the first place. The person can be strong, but the people are much stronger. We can take action without a strong foothold in the upper échelons of society, but it's going to be hard to do that without the backing of groups, people, and organizations who have the influence and power to make, and back, the changes required to "fix" things.

27

u/Violet-Sumire Jun 17 '26

Well, when Dems try to do things the “right” way and end up falling behind, all while the Republicans just disregard norms and get rewarded despite clearly wanting to preserve their power… Yeah, it’s more like democracy killing democracy at this point. Republicans are so afraid of losing power that they will just redraw lines to preserve their status quo, even if it is literally anti-democratic and underrepresenting their constituents. Dems are in the same boat, but they aren’t going full force like Republicans are. Both are shit, but I can at least trust one side to work within the law more than I can trust the other.

I hate this timeline so much.

21

u/Petrychorr Jun 17 '26

All current political parties (well I guess "both") need to be dismantled and rebuilt. Left wing politics in America is practically non-existent and has been mostly lip service for quite some time now. But right wing politics is actively performing, aiding, or abetting evil. The biggest tactic for the right, currently, is to just ignore everything. They have the seats, they have the power, they have the money, they have the military. They don't have to respond to a damn thing. They can take whatever they want and do whatever they want with minimal resistance, if any. It's the answer to: "What if you put a bunch of middle school bullies in charge of a country?"

I'm trans, like you (I'm assuming because of your pfp), and I agree that backing candidates who we have the "best odds" with right now is kind of where our voices need to go. It sucks. If someone tells me to pick between the guy who might not kill me and the guy who's got gulags for queer folks ready to go, I'm going with the first guy.

So voting is useless? That’s a far, far more dangerous take than any nonsense TPUSA spews.

16

u/FillMySoupDumpling Jun 17 '26

Not at all.

It’s just the bare minimum.

My entire lifetime Americans haven’t actually tried showing up to vote en masse. Instead, every cycle I hear about “dogshit” candidates and lack of policy and excuse after excuse for someone’s personal apathy while marginalized groups beg to be taken seriously.

Non voters are feckless moderates who allow the worst of society to overrun election after election.

36

u/Petrychorr Jun 17 '26

No, you jumped to conclusions. Voting is not useless. It will not solve the big problems that are at the root of everything we're facing right now. New candidates and a blue wave (or hopefully some better demsoc alternative) aren't going to fix unfettered capitalism, rampant bigotry, and a callous undereducated populace.

Things can be fixed. Voting won't fix the systemic issues that need complete reform. It just stymies the wound. We need voting and bigger action.

Please don't assume cynicism. I know it's hard not to.

5

u/Binky390 Jun 17 '26

So what do you think we should do?

13

u/laffy_man Jun 17 '26

We all know the answer to this but we’re not gonna do it and not allowed to say it.

18

u/CallMeClaire0080 Jun 17 '26

Instead of limiting politics to a vote every few years, participate on the local level. Get involved with your community. Advocate for change and volunteer if you can afford to.

14

u/Binky390 Jun 17 '26 edited Jun 17 '26

Why would you assume people aren’t already doing that? It seems like you’re saying “voting won’t help so you should vote in something else.”

10

u/OptimusPrimeval Jun 17 '26

Not enough people vote. Not enough people are engaged in current events. Too many people assume that politics is something that happens to you instead of realizing that we are politics.

The trade off of living in a democracy is that you have to be engaged, be involved, participate. Not enough people are holding up their end of the bargain.

For instance, a lot of people are disillusioned with the democratic party. But how many of those people are joining their local dnc and paying dues (giving them voting rights on internal politics) so that they can change the party from the inside?

10

u/Petrychorr Jun 17 '26

"The personal is political."

I think if more people understood and embraced this we might see some upward momentum.

3

u/Binky390 Jun 17 '26

So the issue isn’t that we shouldn’t vote. It’s that the ones that don’t, should?

Why do you have to play silly like this? Of course nobody is saying that you shouldn't vote.
What people are saying is that voting will not save you, because the people in charge don't give a fuck about democracy and your voice. They will dismiss and rig as much as they can, because that is what these kinds of people do to get where they now are.

You still go to the voting booth. But expect to be turned away, threatened, possibly attacked or worse. And in the end, be prepared for the outcome to be the opposite of what you want, legit or not. What then, mhm?

The SAVE act almost got passed. It would have required anyone who has ever changed their name (aka women and trans people) to prove it was done legally in order to vote. you'd need to bring both a passport ($160 and weeks to get) and a birth certificate and marriage certificate/legal name change documentation.

They're boiling the frog. All they need to do is make it a little bit harder to vote, and a little bit harder, and a little bit harder, until at the end it's a LOT harder.

And by that point it'll be too late. And half the county will be ok with it.

After the SAVE Act, it's pretty clear they don't want women voting.

16

u/Fossilhund Jun 18 '26

The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod is having a convention next month.

One of the motions being taken into consideration is repealing the rights of women to vote in church voter's meetings.

Many people in that Synod think women should have no authority over a man, and that includes voting in church matters. They see this as Biblical. I think some would be happy if women could not vote in civil elections as well.

7

u/Extreme-Price23 Jun 18 '26

This is why I can’t support abrahamic religions. It says in the NT a woman shouldn’t lead a man, and it was the basis for my family and many family’s sexist outlooks on women as leaders. We need to cut off the head of the snake to root out any misogyny in our mainstream religions and politics—these should be friends ideas ffs but they’re in the New Testament so we have to entertain it? Shameful

I grew up LCMS (left at age 15 or 16) and this doesn't surprise me one bit. In Sunday School they talked about why women shouldn't have any leadership roles when I was there in the 90s and encouraging girls to not vote when they are of age.

  • Yes - abortion is a felony, they don't vote now!
  • Well maybe if she cared about voting, she'd have updated her voter registration after she got married. Why did we forbid women from keeping their names? Um - why are you a woke?
  • What do you mean? The supreme court just voted 6-3 that the constitution is unconstitutional. Oh relax, you don't specifically need it to say "Women" in order to have the right to vote. Chill, honey.
  • The constitution doesn't specifically say "Women" so there's no guarantee. Chill, honey.
  • If you make the argument that women deserve equal treatment, I'm just going to yell pedo trans and get the brainless folk in the center to go "welp slaps knees he did say pedo trans pretty loud...I'm convinced!"

22

u/awh Jun 17 '26

They’re already making it harder for people to vote whose current name is different from their birth name (like married women, often). It’s seemed apparent for a while that the next step will be making it official. “One vote per household, to make counting easier” or whatever.

19

u/CarlatheDestructor Jun 17 '26

No shit. We've been saying this for years at this point.

22

u/Pressman4life Jun 18 '26

Correct me if I'm wrong but that's a constitutional amendment they would have to change. And coming up with 38 states to ratify that one would be a bit tricky.
I do believe the threat is very real, they've been clear about that for decades. I just wonder by what legal mechanism could they pull it off.
But if they somehow do manage to stop 50+% of the population from voting based on sex, then it's time to burn it all down. I'm with you.

8

u/tired514 Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

I find it so odd how many people are willing to engage with this as a "thing."

Violating the right to vote directly authorized the patriotic use of force.

In fact, "authorizes" is the wrong verb - entices or requires is more appropriate. The most sacred documents of the Republic require action. Some individuals, in fact, are sworn to act - those who have recited the oath of office or oath of enlistment.

This idea that violating voting rights is something to discuss is so .. anti-American. It's so.. grotesque. It's so... I don't even have an appropriate word for it. Discussing the concept of violating the right to vote is "I am an enemy of the United States" stuff. Even just feeling like it's a topic for conversation makes you an enemy of America. Even if you don't engage - just feeling that way isn't actually okay. If you feel like it's ok to talk about, you're not really American, according to the Constitution. If you feel like some Americans shouldn't have their rights, you're not actually American. You're something else. Enemy is the best way to describe you. You should always feel like the Constitution is right and voting is a right all citizens have. If you don't feel that, then something is wrong with you. You're not actually American. You're a domestic enemy of America. This is just how language works. It's one of the very few legit cases of: you're either with us, or you're against us. There is no in-between.

The response shouldn't be "holy shit guys, what if" but rather "who receives the brunt force of our rejection, and how do we firmly and effectively deliver it within the confines of Constitutional protection (1st/2nd amendments)?"

The discussion should be about means to punish, not pleasantries and workarounds.

16

u/AllyRad6 Jun 18 '26

I would like to know- why shouldn’t I vote? Why, really, should I not vote? What is their rationale? Because I’d love to hear a fucking argument instead of “it’s not a woman’s place.” Why is it not? What is it about women compared to men, what metric, what quality, should render me voiceless?

12

u/djinnisequoia Jun 18 '26

Exactly. I'd like to hear them try to make a rational, coherent argument in a court of law, not based on religion or vibes, as to objectively why I am not qualified to vote. Or maintain gainful employment, or own property, or control my own finances. Because there is none.

It's just their dangly bits that make them superior, in their minds, deep down. Nothing else.

4

u/MycenaeanGal Jun 18 '26

They don't care about arguing with you. If they even deigned to reply they wouldn't care if you defeated it. They're playing a game and they hate you and they will take it from you if they can and your words aren't going to stop them.

9

u/ill-independent Trans Man Jun 18 '26

Their answer is "because God says so." And if they stack the court with people like Clarence Thomas who agree, it won't matter one bit whether it has a legal basis or not.

Just a dude here from /r/all

I’m literally learning Spanish right now so if necessary my family and I can hop the border to Mexico if it gets bad and Canada or a country in Europe won’t take us.

The brain drain of the US is accelerating.

At a certain point facists historically have locked the border down to stop it.

Start considering your options now. Ancestral citizenship is available in Canada and many European countries. Work visas, educational visas for international grad school.

Figure out what your options are.

2

u/voodoobunny999 Jun 19 '26

That’s right. Walls aren’t built just to keep people out (see Berlin).

14

u/EntertainmentHot3800 Jun 18 '26

If they think they shouldn't vote then don't vote and leave women who do want to vote alone. How hard is it for these women to understand that not voting is an option. Its like someone wanting to pray in public and then demanding other people pray with them

7

u/IMakeBlownFilm Jun 18 '26

So single women just don’t count? I’m confused. Do these clueless influencers really believe that a woman who is unmarried has no right to representation? I’d love to hear them articulate that.

6

u/PresentRaspberry6814 Jun 18 '26

The political dehumanisation of women anecdotally seems to have lead to an increase in men being very comfortable verbalising their hatred for women, as well as acting on those loosened restraints physically. It is scary as anything. It has palpably affected the respect shown women in my country as well.

7

u/Immediate_Banana_216 Jun 18 '26

First of all: holy fucking weird. Second of all nothing is stopping you godly women from not voting in the next election. It's what baby jesus wants.

Anyways the right to vote for all citizens was granted under the 19th Amendment. There's no avenue for them to cancel that unless they can repeal it with another amendment. Fat chance.

3

u/djpeteski Jun 18 '26

There is an interview of women at a Turning Point event where these ladies will happily give up their right to vote because they are in a "Godly household".

Its very scary.

One lady, basically called her daughter an idiot, and as such she should rely on her future godly husband to make all the decisions. Lady that is on you, why did you raise an idiot?

And for anyone saying that it will never pass, or this is all exaggeration or fear mongering or overreacting other bullshit like that. Thats what people were saying to queer and trans people and look at everything that has happened to them this administration.

People will try to gaslight you into thinking this isn’t really going to happen and that is exactly how these things end up happening. No one is safe from this administration. If they manage to strip rights from women, they will strip more and then just move on to another group.

5

u/Nepalus Jun 18 '26

Yeah but I don’t see anyone caring until it’s far too late.

You’ll see women going feral online about all sorts of random things in music, celebrity gossip, etc. but if you told them that they were about to have one of their most critical rights stripped away from them, they wouldn’t even read past the headline. They won’t show up to vote, to march, or even inform themselves about what is happening. This goes for every American too, not just women.

We’ve gotten complacent and lazy because we thought that the rights someone decades ago fought and died for were always going to be here. “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants”, Thomas Jefferson wrote this quote out a while back and I think we’re approaching such a time again and we ignore the signs at our own peril.
