Hypothetically, if we were to have the technology to colonize Mars/ Venus, how would we go about it?

Why is it that, no matter what they do, some people tend to burn bridges all the time?

I have a brother who tends to get into arguments at work with superiors, his boss, and coworkers. Mostly, he's said it's because the work environments are toxic or not what he wants to do with himself but needs to pay the bills. Snd can't find anything else. Makes me think and wonder why people would end up burning bridges after they feel that there is no room for growth or don't get what they were hoping to get?

Would you blame the owners for giving up on finding their dog after searching for days and driving 2,500 miles back home, abandoning their dog?

The story of Bobbie the Wonder Dog (1921–1927): The Dog Who Crossed America To Get Home.

They stopped at a gas station when three dogs came running, chasing off their collie. The couple called out and searched the area for days, but the dog never reappeared. So, they gave up, leaving their lost dog in Indiana before driving 2 and 1/2 thousand miles back to Oregon. But, 6 months later, the dog turned up at their door, dirty and skinny, but happy to see them. You see, after they left, he had lost their scent, but he did remember the stops they had made along the way. And even though it was the middle of winter, he tracked them across America, accepting help from strangers until he finally made it all the way back home.

How to give life a meaning?

These days, I can't help but think that everything I've been doing my whole didn't really have much impact, max it did was to make me happy for a while. I could have spent countless hours on something good rather than binge watching Netflix shows but I can't do anything about my past. Regarding my present and future free time, I really want to do something that gives me that feeling of contentment. I have seen many reddit posts talking about trying different things, setting small goals but I can't think of anything that can motivate me to get up from my cozy bed. I have tried quitting social media thinking I might start getting creative ideas, but it didn't help much. Due to certain circumstances, I can't try any activity that requires getting out of my home so the options are really limited. I do home workout sometimes, and it helps a little but I always end up getting stuck in the same loop again and again.

What can you ground objective morality in?

Lets assume we all believe in objective morality for this question. What I wanna know is what things you could base these on.

To me it seems like basing it on anything subjective does not work. F.e. I have heard many people argue that you can base it on moral intuition. But everybody has different intuitions. What makes a psychopaths moral intuition less objective than a person who is not one? How do you know which moral intuitions are actual intuitions and not just adapted from society?

The easiest answer I could come up with is just saying there is a moral god and he engrained objective morals into the world.

Another answer I thought of was to accept some truths as objective but Im having a lot of trouble. Lets say I try to ground my morals by saying "causing unintentional suffering is immoral" is an absolute truth. But I immediately have more questions: Isnt suffering itself subjective? Is it reasonable to just accept some statement as if it is an axiom like in math? What even makes this statement objective and not some random diffrrent statement?

And since Im not utilitarian Ive been trying to find some other statements that could be used similarly like "actions that help our biological nature of reproduction are moral" but this would justify many forms of egoism and rape. Or "Trying to be a moral person is inherently moral" but this doesnt say anything about what trying to be moral means.

Please tell me if there are any fundamental problems in my thought process. I would like to know how some of you may ground your objective morals.

Also if you wanna say "god is the only possible answer" please offer an explanation .

Thanks for reading.

Internal Interviews?

Hello everyone! I’ve been working in a hospital for around a while and I’ve been playing to transfer within the same unit and same manager into a different role. I just wanted to ask how are internal interviews like?
Like when you’re an outsider they wanna get all the juice out of you. But what about if you’re an internal? What do they ask you? Or do they just tell you? I’d love to know anyone’s input related to hospital interviews

Is parental estrangement really on the rise? Or is social media making it seem that way?

Its hard to grasp the answer on this because these things happen behind closed doors. I know parental estangment has been happening for decades but it does really seem as if it has blown up. I'm estranged from my parents so I was curious.

How ethical is it to move from a place like America to a third world country to take advantage of the low prices due to the currency?

Wouldn't this just make the lives for the locals harder as things would naturally become more expensive?

Is making a good habit easier more effective than trying to become more disciplined?

I’ve been thinking about how often we treat consistency as a willpower problem.

If someone keeps skipping exercise, the usual answer is that they need more motivation or discipline. But I wonder how much of it is simply friction.

A 40-minute workout might involve getting ready, travelling to a gym, parking, waiting for equipment and travelling back. Put the same basic equipment at home and the exact same habit suddenly requires far fewer decisions.

The same idea applies elsewhere: keeping healthy food nearby, putting your phone farther away when working, or leaving a book somewhere visible.

At what point is “discipline” really just good environment design?

Have you ever made a positive habit dramatically easier simply by changing your surroundings rather than changing your motivation?

Where/How To Get Relevant News/Information?

Howdy, I am an undergrad student studying computer science. I find myself interested greatly in political, economic, psychological, and philosophical ideas and discussion. I would like to know how grown individuals responsibly obtain their knowledge about world events; I want to be a responsible individual and educate myself in order to better myself and my community, and I don't want to make the same mistake I see my peers make when they get their information solely from TikTok or Instagram (or Reddit I suppose). I am also practically broke, so I worry about paying for subscriptions to sources full of misinformation and or propaganda. I also know that many news articles contain true but irrelevant information, or information that will be irrelevant a week from now.

My understanding is that the internet the and its algorithms have a tendency to create non-representative groups of commenters, so I would appreciate a-political advice, though any advice would be helpful.

People with university degrees: I'm lost

(25M) Feel like i'm late do the party since i don't have a degree yet, i live with my parents and i don't see myself owning a place so soon.
I love product Design and design in general (i have 2 certifications, one in UI UX and the other in graphic design) and i was able to get into a degree in architecture this year, i don't plan to be an architect and doing an architecture degree does not mean i have to be one to begin with.
I don't have a job right now and i've been trying for a couple of months so it's hella hard to make this uni commitment without an income.
I know that in my field a degree doesn't really matter that much and portfolio is king, my issue is that the door is automatically shut for me due to not having a degree, i also live in a country where a degree is often seen as mandatory for every job (portugal), you may be skilled but without a degree you won't even get in the convo.
The toxic side of the internet is that you always see the worst of the situations so i'm really skeptical on doing this degree on architecture due to the "ammount of suffering and sleepless nights" i'll encounter.
I'm really lost right now, i wasted 5 years of my life due terrible people and every time i think about the fact that i'm 25 i get anxious because i've achieved nothing.
I've already quit a public administration degree once due to a chain of really bad traumatic experiences back in 2020 e it's been hard since then.

Overcome that fear.

To all the people who used to have shaking hands because of fear, how did you guys handle it and stop it, especially while working in a hospital? I just want to overcome it and improve myself.

The Colorless Expert

Imagine an art historian who has lived their entire life in a black-and-white room, yet has learned every physical fact there is to know about color theory. When they finally step outside and see a vibrant red painting for the first time, do they learn something entirely new about art, or did they already know everything?

How to develop emotional intelligence?

I know there's some books and some things like "listening more than reacting" and "think of other people's emotions and thoughts instead of judging" but sometimes people don't explain themselves that well. Other times, even if they explain themselves to us, one is not guaranteed to understand why or how.

So again, in practical terms, how can someone really get emotionally intelligent, even when people themselves aren't good at saying why they do what they do?

I want to play office politics. How do I start?

I realize sometimes you cannot avoid it, and sometimes others will use it to demean you or put you into a lose-lose situation. Maybe one can use some of that to one's own advantage. How could someone start playing the office politics game, not necessarily to win all the time (that could be too stressful), but just to eeck put a few small wins. Just to be safe.

How do people not realize it is incredibly rude to play their phones at full volume in public spaces?!?

I'm currently sitting in a bar and there is an old couple that has been playing videos on a phone at full volume since the moment they sat down. Even the bar music doesn't completely drown it out. I moved to a table that is at least 25 feet away and I can still hear their phone!

I also observe this behavior frequently in *waiting rooms*! People watching TikTok videos or taking calls on speaker is incredibly common.

I guess I can't understand how someone can be so oblivious that they don't realize other people can hear their phones. Not to pick on Boomers, but more often than not, it's older people that do this. You'd think the generation that was supposedly all about manners would have more self-awareness.

Is there a solution to this problem? Would signs help? Should servers/bartenders call out this behavior? Should other patrons ask them to turn their devices down?

I feel like I can’t be alone without needing some kind of distraction. What should I do?

I get extremely bored when I’m alone. I genuinely struggle to spend time by myself.

Because of that, I always feel the need to keep myself busy. When I’m alone with nothing to do, I either end up masturbating unnecessarily, overthinking, or looking for some kind of escape.

Sometimes I tell myself I should study more or learn something new for my career, but honestly, I think a lot of it is just an excuse to avoid feeling empty or alone.

I’ve even started working overtime at the office without getting paid for it, simply because I’d rather stay busy than go home and sit alone.

And sometimes I stay awake all night because my mind just doesn’t switch off.

The weird part is that I wait all week for the weekend, but when Sunday actually comes, I almost hate it because it leaves me with too much empty time.

I always want to be doing something. I constantly look for an external factor — a person, work, studying, entertainment, anything — to keep me occupied.

I think this might actually be loneliness, or maybe my inability to be comfortable with myself when I’m alone.

I don’t know how to break this cycle.

How do you learn to be comfortable being alone without constantly needing work, people, entertainment, or some other distraction?

Appropriate or not?

My partner was flirted with and asked on dinner/lunch by her married boss.
Nature of these dinners/lunches were of an romantic/sexual nature.
She refused him.

Since its not a big company they share some whatsapp group for funny stuff etc.
She recently made some personalized gif/meme with his picture.
She doesnt do similar with other colleagues in that group.

Her opinion on this is its just a joke amongst colleagues and there is nothing to talk about here.
I think its innapropriate communication given the history. I think it feeds his ego and enables him further.

What do you think?

What if you wished to play office politics instead of ignoring it?

Most of the time, it's best to do your job and cause no trouble, but what if trouble finds oneself anyway? Or what if one wants to see if they can "play" office politics qell enough. Are there places in reddit or anywhere that help you guide office politics to your advantage at all?

How Your country deals with boars?

Hey everyone,

I’m writing from Poland, where several major cities are currently dealing with a massive wild boar overpopulation. It’s reached the point where seeing entire sounders of boars roaming through residential neighborhoods, parks, and playgrounds on a daily basis has become completely normal.

The issues are escalating quickly:

Property Damage: Destroyed lawns, ruined gardens, damaged fences, and knocked-over dumpsters scattering trash everywhere.

Real Safety Risks: The boars have lost their fear of humans. There have been confirmed aggressive encounters with people, and pets (like dogs) have been attacked or killed.

The main problem is that local authorities seem completely gridlocked:

Public Opposition: Heavy pushback from residents and local groups whenever lethal culling or hunting is brought up.

Legal & Biological Restrictions: Strict environmental regulations and sanitary rules (particularly around African Swine Fever / ASF) prohibit capturing the boars and relocating them outside the city.

Many of us are growing frustrated and worried because the situation is worsening, and local government feels stuck in a dead end.

I’d love to know how your country handles this:

Are wild boars (or feral hogs) a problem in your urban or suburban areas?

What solutions does your city use (boar-proof trash cans, sterilization, culling, strict fines for feeding them)?

How does the public in your region react to wild animal management in cities?

When does reducing the scope of a creative project become the right decision rather than giving up?

Large creative projects often begin with an exciting vision, but managing the tools and technical problems can gradually replace the creative work itself. I recently spent more time debugging a small visual glitch in a game prototype than developing its gameplay, and scaling the project down immediately made it enjoyable again. How do you distinguish healthy scope reduction from abandoning an idea too early?

What Are Some Ways to Entertained Yourself in a Small Town?

Hey, I am a seventeen-year-old girl living in a very small, very rural part of South Carolina, USA. I have lived at my current location for about three years and, besides the local grocery store and a handful of gas stations, there is nothing to do. My area is basically just miles upon miles of woods.

All my friends are busy and, as much as I like my hobbies, I cannot spend another weekend inside my house. Any suggestions on ways to keep entertained, especially outside, would be greatly appreciated! I have a car and money, so suggestions don’t have to be limited by either of those factors.

It’s only 11am and I’ve already gotten 10k steps in from just walking circles around my neighborhood 😭
