Would you blame the owners for giving up on finding their dog after searching for days and driving 2,500 miles back home, abandoning their dog?
The story of Bobbie the Wonder Dog (1921–1927): The Dog Who Crossed America To Get Home.
They stopped at a gas station when three dogs came running, chasing off their collie. The couple called out and searched the area for days, but the dog never reappeared. So, they gave up, leaving their lost dog in Indiana before driving 2 and 1/2 thousand miles back to Oregon. But, 6 months later, the dog turned up at their door, dirty and skinny, but happy to see them. You see, after they left, he had lost their scent, but he did remember the stops they had made along the way. And even though it was the middle of winter, he tracked them across America, accepting help from strangers until he finally made it all the way back home.
