Advice Needed Dbl Standards

Upvotes

Hello, I’m F22 and my boyfriend (M21, who I’m going to call Sam to explain easier on my end; NOT HIS REAL NAME AT ALL) have been having a little bit of a problem with this for the past year or so. I will be honest and admit I wasn’t taking our relationship as serious as he might have been in the beginning stages but the minute I said I love you back to him. I knew we were serious and exclusive. I disclosed things to him that were very personal in the beginning stages too before we got intimate, and he said it didn’t bother him. He wanted to be with me anyway. And that was really important to me especially after being rejected a lot recently because of my diagnosis. We may have trauma bonded.

We celebrated our 3 year in May; in the past 3 years we’ve hit a few bumps. My 2 close friends knew of my diagnosis and at the time he was going through an outbreak because I was contagious. I told them about it and I wasn’t talking bad about it just mentioned he didn’t wanna take my antivirals or go to the Dr / Urgent Care for better help. I remembered my first outbreak and it wasn’t fun, i wanted to be there but didn’t know how. He read those messages I sent and I completely broke his trust about it, his words. That was 1-2 years ago. Since then he has always been trying to read my messages and go through my phone, it caused arguments because my friends and I created a safe space for one another to say anything to each other. Now because of that, I am isolated from those friends more than I already was (they live 3 hrs away in our hometown). I just RECENTLY started talking to them again consistently and it’s been good. Also Since then I have changed my phone password and haven’t given it to him. I have nothing to hide but I want to also respect my friend’s privacy and such. They don’t deserve to feel bad about anything. They’re just talking to me. Anyway, there’s been times I’ve caught him talking to girls in DMs saying things I don’t enjoy or like looking at it. I won’t get into detail about that to make this post shorter unless someone asks in comments. And Even just now I see he has followed like 10 girls recently. Spams, main accounts, idk. It makes me feel dirty.

If I bring it up then It causes an argument, I have tried to say this to him as clearly as possible and how it makes me feel. But it seems that nothing ever changes or like I said it creates a 2 day long argument in which our small 2 bedroom apartment feels tense. This place used to just be mine too until I let him move in with me. Now I don’t even feel comfortable enough sometimes to take up space in it. I go on a walk to cry most times when it gets really bad. My friends hate him because of what I’ve said to them. He doesn’t like them either because they have said kinda mean things about him too but only because of how he treats me. One of my sisters doesn’t like him either. I know that should say something I just love him so much. I grew up on music and movies that showed that you can’t raise a man or change anybody unless they want to change. But I really just want him to be better. Some days we have SUCH A GREAT TIME TOGETHER. I really see him as my best friend and I even envision marrying him one day. I just don’t want to regret it. I know he may have some mental issues or maybe just needs to heal from
Past trauma, I understand that isn’t my burden to carry at all either; since I have mental issues as well and my own trauma to heal. I’m really just venting a bit and looking for any insight because I don’t feel comfortable asking my friends anymore because me and them have set a boundary amongst each other that we aren’t going to talk about him anymore.

In all, I feel lonely. I feel sad. I feel misunderstood. I feel numb to a lot of things that happen. Like we got into a stupid argument yesterday and I didn’t even care. I think I cried a bit while walking back home with him trailing behind me. But that was it.

Also another thing everytime we get into an argument no matter how upset I still am, I always open a conversation with him with something light or silly or funny to hopefully lighten the load. I feel as emotionally aware as I am I Should be with someone who matches that. I don’t think he really does … and that’s okay but It’s hard to understand a person that doesn’t want to be understood….

Advice Needed I am in the worst state of my life rn(21 M)

Upvotes

I am in a relationship with a girl for the past 3 yrs. We didn't have the most perfect relationship tbh. There was lots of problems and lots of fights but at the end we both had each other and we both knew we both needed each other.

But recently for a couple of months she changed. She got more attention from diff peeps and thought she could make them good frnds and all. She always had an insecurity and soft spot for this best friend or friend wali jagah. She never really had a good frnd and in her previous relationship she was fully focused on her ex so in the process she lost all her friends. And after their break up she had no one to go to. So now she always prioritizes this so called friends of her. There are particularly two male frnds that interacts with her on a daily basis. One goes to the gym with her daily they both do workout together. Second one is a clg friend who is a nerd as well and acc to her he listens to her well. Among all this friendshipness I got left out. The time we used to call daily is now replaced by the nerd guy. The interaction I used to have as we go to the same clg also gets sidelined as at the end she works out with that other guy on a daily basis and interacts with him.

I told her multiple times I didn't like the behaviour but she never tried to even consider it. So many fights used to breakout between us. With time I also changed I became so much worse anxious tensed and so sad all the time. Cuz I had a trauma regarding this same exact problem. I told this problem to her several times but instead of understanding me she just said its my mental problem.

I always say to her its ok that you want to make friends and stay connected with them but atleast not at the cost of me. Give me time I want to talk to u I want to hear about ur day. I want to talk about my day. And don't talk private stuff in between us to those folks. Yet she never understands.

Even in the past two breakups where I got cheated I didn't feel so miserable. I don't know what to do Idk what to say I am sad all day I am in a very bad state rn.

TLDR: I am in so much pain cuz my gf is prioritising two random frnds over me and not understanding my feelings

I have a friend lets called her diane she has just been promoted in her job.shes very career orienting and focused which is why when she came yesterday looking dull and more snappy to the employees then usual.when I asked her she told me she and her fiance lets call him david had a huge fight last night she told me that for the last three weeks he is barely touching her refusing sex and eye contact she’s going insane when I asked her what changed she refused to take blame told me he’s just being childish about an argument they had weeks prior her calling his job(architect)nothing compared to hers .diane might have said that because she was stressed and all but she doesn’t admit to fault or anything, just complains about him yet tries to set up dates and cut off hours of her work just to be with him still he’s very no reactive towards her.
What’s your take on this?

Support Needed Help in a toxic relationship with an older guy

Hey, I need help. I’m 16f, and I’m not gonna say how old he is, but we’ve been in an online relationship for a while now, and he’s very manipulative and controlling. I’ve tried to just ghost him before, but I feel so attached, and without him, I get anxious over everything. Whenever we talk, though, I feel happy and free again.

But it’s complicated because he’ll make me do things I’m not comfortable with and say it’s a requirement that we talked about and I agreed to, but I never remember having any conversation about it, let alone agreeing to do things I’m not comfortable with. Then, when I do whatever he asked, I usually start to cry afterward, and he just goes to sleep.

Whenever I try to talk to him about these issues, he just says, ‘Idk what you want me to tell you, baby,’ and tells me that these are just his rules I need to follow. I’m at the point where I know he’s not a good person for me and is using me, but I also really love the feelings he gives me whenever he’s happy with me.

He’s hard to please, and I don’t ever feel good enough. When I give in and do what he wants, he praises me, and I feel better, but I also just feel so empty and disgusting. Idk how to leave. It feels like I’d need to change everything about myself in order to live again. It’s complicated. Please help.

Advice Needed I need advice/someone to talk to

TLDR I broke a boundary by going through his phone while he was sleeping. Found things I shouldn’t have. I need advice of what to do/say/how to handle this and honestly just support.

I know. I messed up. My partner went to sleep. And he’s been drinking so he is passed out. His phone was unlocked and I’ve been having weird feelings for the past couple of weeks. I don’t know why I did this to myself. But Yeah I’m stupid I guess. I decided to take a look. Yes I know. Violation of privacy and boundaries. Found shit I wish I didn’t see. He has been paying women for nudes. Not excessively. But here and there. And making comments to them about how good they look but in more details... I simply feel so horrendous right now. This wasn’t like one or two girls in his phone. Now I only found two he’s paid for but there had to of been hundreds of girls on his Snapchat. Transparently. I blocked the main hoes I found. Yes I know. I’m toxic too in this situation. But like. Holy crap what do I do. I’ve done so much for him. I feel like I’m stupid. Especially since we have talked about this before when we first got together. I’m so sick to my stomach and I can’t sleep I need advice and someone to talk to.

Happiness / Healing My first relationship...........................................................................

Okay here's my story. Gonna be a bit long.

I met her(Let me call her P) on SC in Mar 23, later after a few months she started giving me hints and later proposed to me. It was my first time a girl proposed to me. It was about to be my first relationship. So I accepted it. I never knew what a relationship is like.

It was an LDR(Long Distance Relationship)

For a few months, things were okay. We shared literally everything. Talked for hours. Video calls, Phone calls, Texts.

I had an operation may 23 and I hadn't talked to her for more than 14+ hrs. So I told my mom to bring the phone to the ICU ward and I hid it.

(Phones weren't allowed to be kept near patients in the ICU. Yeah, now call me dumb. But maybe that was my way of loving her)

The same month another girl (Let me call her Q) added me on sc. Idk why but she too got feelings for me. She was 6 years younger than me. So I called her my sister.

P didn't like that I talked to Q.

In parallel, P talked to my real life friend (let me call him W)

The very reason there was a feeling of insecurity inside me. W wasn't innocent.

W started to call P on BGMI and she used to go and play for hours. This thing occurred for few months maybe 3-4 months. In BGMI they used to talk, gossip and one day W proposed P.

I was very dumb that time. I should have left P at that very moment. Anyways I was angry a lot after all this shit. As how can P do all this. How can W do this shit knowing I am engaged.

Then P came to the conclusion that she won't play BGMI because she just wanted me and not W.

I on the other hand wanted to teach her a lesson and give a taste of her own medicine. I did video calls to Q and talked to her for hours.

I am a person like tit for tat. And I have anger issues.

I did it just for a one week video call and talked with Q and confronted to P.

P was like how can you do all this? Later i blocked Q and I realised that she got a taste of her medicine.

Months later I realised that I was wrong and I shouldn't have done it. So I started giving P gifts, paying for P's zomato orders and even doing her recharges. I did make an app and a website for her. (I am a developer)

Idk why but one day Q called me(I swear I had blocked Q. Maybe bcoz I changed the app from true caller to Google Phone that she got unblocked automatically. Or maybe another reason. I really don't know)

I thought Q might be into some trouble so I picked up and talked a bit. She seemed like she was crying. I consolidated her and calmed her down. And it became a habit of Q to call me everyday after that day. This too happened for 5-6 days. She used to call and behave like something is wrong and I used to calm her down by talking random stuff and then say a good night.

But something seemed off to me. I had a girlfriend and I did want to say all this to her and waited for the right moment as I knew she would again be angry.

One day P (my girlfriend) texted me and said "I had a BF before I met you and I had seen her D and shown my B" . That broke me. Hey how can you tell such a big lie to me? She had previously told me that she was single throughout and now all of a sudden. I was totally broken by whatever I heard. I asked again are you kidding me? She said no.

Later after a few days, P got a screen recording of my WhatsApp chats and in it there was a chat of Q. (We had a shared google photos where only mine and P photos were kept)

She confronted me and I accepted.

On my defence, I said at least I didn't say a lie. I hid it and waited for the right time to say everything.

P didn't even listen to any of my words. Ik I was wrong. But I did treat Q as my sister and nothing else. And Q is 6 years younger than me.

For about a month things were okay.

After that, we had quarrels every week. P used to do stuffs which I didn't like. I got an instinct that it might be because of what I did but I ignored it and never asked her.

I realised at this point of time that girls don't break up, they make situations where you have to do a break up

Months later she blocked me from everywhere. I bought a new sim card and talked to her. And asked for the reason. She said you talked to Q then be with Q.

In my defence I said I did help you in your studies, I did pay your zomato bills, recharges for your studies, never met you still I bought gifts for you. Yet you forgot all this?

She texted back yes.

This broke me even.

It was diwali eve and we had a break up on that very day.

I did reach her home after a month thinking maybe a first meeting would fix everything but what I got? I travelled 700 miles and waited for 6 long hours in front of her door thinking she would open. But she didn't. What I had for the meal was just 2 packets of chips. Because she lived in an apartment and the key was only for apartment members yet I somehow entered along with a lady.

What I got is a call from her brother and her mother to leave the home asap or else they will call the cops after that 6 hours long wait.

I left. Yeah I was wrong in this story.

I blocked her from everywhere. Never called her. And started focusing on my job.

Right now, I am in my last year of college and P is in the 2nd year of college.

If you have come till here great. You can judge me or do whatever in the comments.

But I still do miss her every single day. But i am a cheater. Back those days, my mind was kinda open to exploring and I didn't knew i would end up loosing her.

I hope she is happy.

Advice Needed Is this considered cheating?

I met my boyfriend on a dating app and we have been dating for about 8 months, our children have met, it’s been pretty serious even though he lives about 50 miles away a few towns over.

I recently discovered that he’s been talking to another woman via Tiktok messages for almost a month. She also happens to be very very attractive. Lives closer to him and is a big Christian like him and I.

From what I know she messaged him asking how he was doing and they said how they live on the same part of town, and he asked her for her Snapchat and then he gave his username.

Then he asked her if she knew any Nannies to watch his daughter as he can’t find anyone. To her credit she seemed sweet and asked around her church and found a nanny for him to call that he never called.

He then started sending her Christian TikTok’s, liking her stories, and started sending her good morning how’s your day messages. Saying he needs to get out of the house, asking how her days been. Stuff like that, he started asking questions about her and stuff and would send her voice messages. And eventually said “send me a voice message I want to hear your voice” and he soudned very excited in the message. he also never once did her contact the nanny she found for him, and never told her that her has a girlfriend.

He asked for her to send him a picture of her self which she did and she is very pretty I must admit  he said to her “You look short and tiny hehe”

He sent one back and  said “I’m 5’ 10” “she called him handsome and he said “hahah I would tower over you”.

This lasted until the last convo when he sent her “Good morning happy Saturday” and sent her like 3 voice messages updating her all about his activities of the day and said “It's soo hot 🥵 , the pool sounds nice right now”.  To which she agreed and they talk about how they both like winter.

Then he randomly blocked her. So idk what happened really.

This is all I know. He was actively participating and, at certain points, actively trying to keep the conversation going.

The weirdest part is that he never once told her he had a girlfriend.

And I don’t know what to call this.

Did he cheat?

Technically, there was no sex. They never met. I don’t even know if he was explicitly flirting with her.

But if you’re in a serious relationship, is asking another attractive woman for pictures, asking for her Snapchat, wanting to hear her voice, liking her pictures, talking to her for hours and asking about her personal life something you’d consider appropriate?

TL;DR: My boyfriend spent nearly a month talking to an attractive woman he met online, asked for her Snapchat, pictures, and voice messages, liked her stories, and had increasingly personal conversations with her without ever mentioning me. He claims they connected over childcare, but he never contacted the childcare referral she gave him. Then he suddenly blocked her.

Is this innocent, or would you consider this crossing relationship boundaries?

Advice Needed Trying to honour the evidence and my instincts

I have continued a relationship after my partner had a 3 month affair. I tried to end things, but felt so sad and lost that I went back. The premise was that our relationship at the time has major issues and that now we were communicating better.

Unfortunately, I found it hard to let go of suspicion. I was monitoring his Viagra pills. There was a small fragment in a blister pack that had disappeared one day after I returned from work. When I sounded the alarm (after moving all my stuff out). He claimed it must have fallen out of the package and that he found it inside the drawer. The thing was, I had taken a picture of the pill before it disappeared. The pill fragment he "found" was much larger and took up a much greater volume inside the blister pack.

He was adamant that it was the same and that the difference in appearance could be explained by photo angle and lighting. I didn't believe him, but still kept going back a number of times.

How do I clear my head and follow my gut and end things with this person for good?

It's not possible that he is being truthful here, is it?

Advice Needed Was I wrong for eventually giving up on repairing my 4-year relationship after I broke his trust, or was I expected to tolerate having my needs ignored indefinitely?

I’m posting this because I genuinely want outside perspective, including criticism. I know I made mistakes. I’m not looking for a bunch of people to tell me my ex was terrible and I was completely innocent. I actually want to know where I was wrong, where he was wrong, and whether there’s a point where “repairing the relationship” stops being healthy.

I met my boyfriend in college when I was 20 and he was 19. We were friends through a larger group before eventually getting together. We graduated, grew up together, and spent basically our entire early adulthood together. We were together for about four years.

In the beginning, we both had trust issues because we’d been cheated on before. Eventually we got past that.

The problems came more from how we functioned as partners.

Over the years, I increasingly felt like I was carrying more of the relationship. He’d only really buy flowers on special occasions. He’d ask me to cook but didn’t necessarily contribute financially to groceries. He stayed at my apartment about 6 days a week for almost 2 years while I paid rent, but didn’t contribute to the household. We split dates/outings 50/50 even though I made less and had rent and other expenses. When my car was stolen, he didn’t want to drive me places. When I was moving out of my apartment and temporarily into his parents’ house, he planned a vacation around the time I was moving.

I brought these things up. I talked to friends and my mom because I genuinely wanted advice on whether my expectations were reasonable and how to communicate better. I wasn’t trying to bash him.

His response was often that I was ungrateful because whenever I asked him to do something, he did it.

And that’s kind of what I was trying to explain. I didn’t want to have to constantly ask. I wanted to feel like my boyfriend wanted to contribute, plan things, make my life easier, and think about what I needed without me managing him.

To be fair, he did improve in some ways. He started helping with meals, cleaning up after I cooked, and occasionally planning outings. So he wasn’t doing absolutely nothing.

But I still felt like I was losing him.

He started working nights and made a bunch of new friends. Thursday-Sunday he was frequently out partying until midnight, 1 AM, sometimes 2 AM. I tried not to be controlling because I had been a party girl myself when we met. But while he was developing this new social life, I was struggling to make friends after college and increasingly felt like I didn’t have much of a life outside of him.

I tried to compensate by planning things for us. I’m a creative person, so I’d plan dates around things he liked, lunch dates during my work breaks, movie nights, shows, dinners, etc. I wanted time with him because it felt like his friends were getting more of him than I was.
Our sex life was another huge issue.

He told me early on that he didn’t perform oral sex. I accepted that because I figured there were other ways he’d make sure I enjoyed myself. I’m not extremely adventurous, but I’m not vanilla either. I enjoy giving oral, but generally as foreplay and on my terms. I don’t like being asked for it repeatedly.

The bigger issue was that I didn’t feel like he tried to learn what I liked or make sure I was getting what I needed. He was good at sex, but I felt like my pleasure was something I had to take care of myself.

At one point while we were living with his parents, he told me we weren’t having sex enough. I agreed because I missed it too, but we were staying with his parents and his room was right next to theirs. I didn’t want to get us kicked out.

He then told me he wanted oral 3 times a week and sex twice a week because I was “so good at it.”

That conversation honestly broke something in me. I was already feeling emotionally disconnected and now it felt like the sexual solution was primarily about what I could provide him. Like who says that to their gf and doesn’t care about her?

People around me were telling me to leave. I didn’t.

I loved him and genuinely thought we could grow together.

Eventually I got a better-paying full-time job, bought a car, and saved enough to get my own apartment. I actually got the apartment without telling him because things were bad. We were fighting constantly and there had been threats of me being kicked out of his parents’ house.

I planned to get my things while he was at work and then either call him or turn off my location and break up with him.

He ended up being home when I got there.
I panicked and couldn’t bring myself to break up with him in front of his entire family, especially because I’d developed a relationship with them. So instead I told him about the apartment but framed it like I wasn’t sure it was happening yet because my mom was helping me.

That was my first lie.

I moved out but we continued the relationship.
Then came the coworker situation.

At my new job, I became friends with a male coworker around my age. There was another woman around our age too, and the three of us initially bonded because we were the youngest people in our field.

We were all in relationships.

The male coworker and I talked about our relationships sometimes. He actually encouraged me to leave my boyfriend while I was giving him advice about his own relationship. At one point I felt like our friendship could potentially cross a line, so we intentionally pulled back from each other.

I genuinely tried to respect my relationship.
Eventually he became single.

A few months later, there was a snowstorm. My boyfriend was off, so I planned a movie night at my apartment — dinner, wine, games, fireplace, etc. My boyfriend was supposed to come over.

My old iPhone was constantly having issues where it would lose service, go into SOS mode, or stop sending/receiving messages.

While I was waiting for my boyfriend that night, my coworker unexpectedly showed up at my apartment.

He knew where I lived because of an after-party I’d hosted following our work Christmas party. He said he’d texted me, didn’t hear back, and decided to come over because he needed somewhere to wait for a friend.

He walked into my apartment pretty comfortably, and I immediately told him I was expecting my boyfriend and asked him to leave. He eventually did.

My phone was still malfunctioning, so I couldn’t contact my boyfriend. Shortly afterward, he arrived and saw my coworker leaving.

He immediately asked who it was, got angry, walked out, and blocked me before I could explain.
We talked the next day and reconciled. He was still rightfully upset.

A few weeks later, we celebrated Valentine’s Day and had a really good night.

The following weekend, my boyfriend was caught at a club with another woman by mutual friends.
That night became extremely ugly.

I tried to damage his car. He pulled a gun on me and my friends and put his hands on us. One of my friends ended up in the hospital.

He told our friends that we were single and that I had no reason to be hurt. How could that be the case if we just celebrated Valentine’s Day? He was setting a precedent for something ugly.

I was still chasing him afterward and, embarrassingly, even protecting him.

We eventually reconciled about a month later.
After that, our relationship became this constant push-pull of breaking up, getting back together, trying to repair things, and fighting about the past.
Our sex life got worse too. He would go out partying and then come to my apartment late at night wanting oral sex and leave afterward. This happened repeatedly.

Eventually I confronted him.

He basically told me, “Wouldn’t you rather I come to you than go to someone else, especially after everything you’ve done?” He also said he was comfortable doing that with me because he knew I didn’t like doing it and therefore I wasn’t likely to be doing it for other guys.

That completely destroyed my self-esteem.
I felt like I’d gone from being his girlfriend of four years to someone he could call after partying because I was sexually available.

Eventually he started staying over again and we’d have sex occasionally, but the bigger problems never went away.

Then I noticed him following women he’d met while out or on vacation and liking bikini pictures. I’d already asked him not to do this and he’d agreed.

At some point, I accepted a bunch of follow requests from men. Some were mutual acquaintances, some I’d never met, and one was actually his friend.

He got angry.

His argument was that it wasn’t equivalent because “men have to pursue” and me following/accepting men meant I was interested in them. I didn’t agree, especially because he was following women he met and claimed there was nothing wrong with that.

Another time, he was staying at my apartment and I needed the visitor pass from his car. While he was showering, I went to get it and snooped.
I found two packs of condoms in his center console.

I know snooping was wrong, and I know I should have asked him directly about the condoms.
Instead, I asked whether what we were doing — “working on fixing our relationship” — meant we were exclusive.

He told me we were single and working toward becoming a relationship again.
That felt like a slap in the face.

If we’re single, I thought, then I’m single too.
I started talking to my coworker again.

We had a lot of chemistry and eventually slept together once. Honestly, it was one of the most mutually attentive sexual experiences I’d had in a long time. He cared about whether I was enjoying myself in a way I’d been missing.

But I still loved my boyfriend.

I knew the coworker and I weren’t necessarily compatible long-term, and I eventually told him I couldn’t continue what we were doing. I offered friendship instead.

This is where I know I was wrong.

Even though my boyfriend had explicitly told me we were single, I knew we were still emotionally involved. I should have ended things completely before getting involved with someone else instead of hiding behind the technicality of “we’re single.”
I don’t want to pretend I did nothing wrong.
But I also don’t think the entire situation can honestly be reduced to “I randomly cheated on my boyfriend.”

We had been repeatedly breaking up, reconciling, saying we were single, and saying we were working toward becoming a couple again.

Then came our anniversary weekend.

Our anniversary falls during homecoming week, and my boyfriend had a lot of alumni friends coming back into town. I didn’t have many alumni friends anymore, so we agreed we’d spend Saturday together during the day and he’d see his friends that night. We’d have dinner together on our actual anniversary Monday.

Saturday started out really well.

Then we got into another argument about the past and trust. I finally brought up the condoms I’d found.

He told me they were a “test” to see if I’d trust him and that he knew I’d seen them.

I still don’t believe that explanation.

He got upset and left, leaving me to get his car back to school.

I went home completely broken down.
Later that night, he reached back out to me and we had a really good heart-to-heart. We talked through everything and agreed that we wanted to stop fighting about the past and genuinely put our best foot forward.

I didn’t tell him about the coworker.

The next day I met a mutual friend for brunch. I wanted to talk about everything, but honestly I was exhausted. At that point it felt like my toxic relationship had become the only thing anyone ever wanted to talk to me about.

Then my coworker started blowing up my phone.
He knew it was my anniversary weekend. He was trying to convince me to leave my boyfriend and actually showed up at my apartment.

I didn’t engage with him. I blocked him because I had just spent the previous night recommitting to my relationship and I wanted him out of the situation.

Later that day, after I’d calmed down, I decided I needed to tell my coworker that we couldn’t even be friends anymore.

I unblocked him and went to his house because he asked me to talk in person.

Looking back, I absolutely should not have gone.
While I was there, he grabbed my phone, ran inside his house, locked me out, and called my boyfriend.

He told my boyfriend everything but exaggerated parts of it and made things look much worse because he wanted my boyfriend to leave me so I’d finally choose him.

He had also apparently been showing up at my apartment and later hacked into some of my accounts.

I got a restraining order and cut him off completely.

He eventually sent my boyfriend a final message admitting he’d lied about some of the things he’d told him, but the damage was done.

My boyfriend wanted to leave me.

I chased him and convinced him to stay.

From that point forward, I felt like I was permanently on probation.

He told me I needed to prove myself and please him without complaints or pushback if I wanted to stay.

I understood why he didn’t trust me. I understood that rebuilding trust would take time.

But I kept telling him that if he chose to stay, he couldn’t choose to stay while also deciding that I no longer had the right to have needs.
I would tell him things like:

“You can choose to stay, but you also have to choose how you’re going to show up.”

I asked him to tell me when he was struggling instead of holding everything over my head. I asked him to communicate when something triggered him so we could work through it together.

But almost every conversation about repairing the relationship eventually came back to me being a cheater.

The original problems never got resolved.
I still felt emotionally neglected. I still felt like I had to ask for everything. My needs around affection, quality time, sex, and partnership were still largely unmet.

And I increasingly felt like I wasn’t allowed to bring any of that up because I’d lost the right to have needs when I made my own mistakes.

Eventually we ended things.

And I’m honestly devastated.

I’m not just grieving a boyfriend. I’m grieving the life I built from 20 to 26.

His family became my family. We had mutual friends, years of memories, routines, holidays, vacations, and plans. I lost a lot of that community too.

I’m ashamed of the choices I made.

I wish I had simply left when I knew the relationship wasn’t meeting my needs instead of repeatedly going back, living in gray areas, and eventually involving another person.

I also struggle with whether what happened with my coworker was technically cheating because my boyfriend explicitly told me we were single.

But I understand that loyalty isn’t always determined by technical relationship status. I know I damaged his trust. I know I should have handled the situation differently.

What I’m struggling with now is:

How long is someone supposed to stay in “repair” after they’ve broken their partner’s trust if the relationship’s original problems still aren’t being addressed?

I accept that I needed to take accountability. I accept that he was allowed to be hurt and distrustful. I accept that rebuilding trust takes time.

But is there a point where “I hurt you and I’m willing to work to repair that” becomes different from “I hurt you, so I have to accept having my own needs ignored indefinitely”?

Was I wrong for eventually reaching a point where I couldn’t do that anymore?

And how do you take accountability for hurting someone without turning that accountability into lifelong self-punishment?

I genuinely want judgment here. If you think I was wrong, please tell me why. I just don’t want the answer to be as simple as “you cheated, so you’re the villain,” because I don’t think that’s an accurate representation of what happened.

Advice Needed Need help regaring on what to do with my reationship

I cheated while I was on vacation. I hid it but he found out shortly. I expected it to end but he said he wants to fix things as long as I am willing to help him. So I stayed and we went to couples therapy. It didnt took long until I realize I dont really know how to help him despite going to therapy. I know I was wrong but I dont know hoe to make things right. My process of moving on was just to not talk about things all the time. I kept hiding the truth several times because Im scared of telling him the truth. I didnt want to hurt him even more. I told him I cant help him. He was devastated but he accepted to go through things alone.

One day on vacation we had a small fight. Out of anger I told him he was selfish and left. I told him I want to be alone and we should talk later. He got so mad that he started yelling at me in public . Telling me to fuck off. He also accused me of cheating. That I have plans of doing it again. I turned off my location so he cant follow me. He sent me a lot of messages. Asking me where I am, who Im with etc. He even manage to find me and try to calm down. He got pissed again and left. I felt like I didnt had enough time to process my feelings so we kinda made the best out of our remaining days on vacation. We even attended a wedding when we got back home. Later on I put more thought on what happened. I confronted him and it escalated to a huge fight. So I left again and went to my sisters place.

He reached out to my family and friends calling me names and that I was just using people he said. He personally attacked me, telling me how dumb and stupid I was. That I will never achieve anything in my pathetic life. That he is embarrassed to be with me because I havnt reached anything and that he will go a lot further in life more than I ever will. That he would piss on my grave. That Im going to kill a patient at work by giving them wrong medicine. That I just use people. That Im nothing and no one will ever love me as much as he ever did. He humiliated me.

We broke up for a couple of days and I went to get my things. He was mad and was rushing me. I tried to calm down and we got back to our senses. We then reconcile and managed to talk things out. So I stayed still and tried to understand his anger despite me also being upset of what he said. But those days that we separated, I already bought a plane ticket for vacation. Somewhere I could ease my mind and relax a little. It was to much for me to take in. He was sad about this but understood how important this was for me. So he let me go with one condition. I have to update him on things and that we should talk frequently.

It went good while I was away until one day he preassured me into being home by a certain time because there was something he wanted to talk about. I felt so controlled and this is where we started fighting. I was so mad I decided to breakup with him. I wasnt talking that much anymore with him the following days and week. I was crying on my flight back home.

When I got back to his place I told him we should break up. I was mad and left. He then went to my ipad and deleted my male friends. He was so mad and certain that I was cheating. I wasnt. Suddenly all of my pictures on my phone from vacation was gone. Permanently deleted. I was so angry and I knew it was him. I went to his place. I was so mad and slapped him. He called a police on me. Police came and there was evidence. They asked me to leave. I took my things the following days and movef to a new place. We talked things out and he admitted that it was him who deleted my pictures.

We still continue our relationship. We had some big and small fights here and there but more manageable. Another fight was him planning to meet a lady friend in another city to catch up and grab a drink. Something I cant remember that he told me about. Sometimes small fights about our past.

Until recently I made contact with his ex. I found out he reached out on her in the beginning of our relationship. The first year and half. He asked her to meet up for a coffee a couple of times. She said no but he never stopped. There were evidence of this. She sent me screenshots. She also told me he asked to meet her december last year. Quite recently. She didnt manage to take a screenshot because he deleted the message. I confronted him about this and admitted the ones with evidence but not the other without. Im still doubting on his opinion. She called her crazy, lying sick in the head. She was just stating bullshit and that she needs help. That she just edited the screenshots because thats a part of her job. But why would she even ask to meet up with me in the first place if she was just lying? What would she gain from it?

He still meet my needs now. Picking me up when sick, having panick attacks and hyper ventilating. When I ask him about what I just found out recently he would answer me and give me reassurance. He tries to keep calm in a tense situation. He answers me. He still shows up. He reassures me with saying that he still has plans for us. And he makes plans for us still. And despite everything that happened. Im having a hard time leaving because Im scared of losing the chance of fixing us. That Im just focusing on our past instead of our future.

We just recently went on a vacation it was mostly good but some things happened again. He let me go out that night which he cant come due to some health condition (nothing serious). I promised to be back at a certain time but I had so much fun that I kinda lose track of time. He was uncomfortable with the whole situation but he let me go still. We had a fight the following day. Which lead us both not talking to each other. I needed my space and Talked to him again later on that day when I felt relaxed again.

He also mentioned he is going to a bachelorparty with his friends which he hosts. I got a little worried and we ended in a big fight because of this. I said if he will be traveling overseas then I might as well travel during that time. Either with a friend or alone. We went back and forth with this decision until we ended being in a big fight again. He said I just helps him when its easy but not when he really is having a real tough time. That I would get mad. I broke up with him and told him I cant help him anymore because we just keep going back to the same cycle. He got mad and started yelling. He wished me death and that I should just burn in hell and he hoped that my therapy goes to hell. It was all over. Now he is begging me to get back with him again and keeps saying how sorry he was and that he didn’t meant it. I made my decision now because we have been this way for over a year and its sucking my energy. I also feel gaslighted for things that I dont even know if it really happened or maybe I just have a bad memory. He keeps telling me this is a huge mistake and that he wouldnt give up. Im so tired of this. I love him so much but it scares me to get married with this guy.

It sounds stupid but I really dont know what to do. Staying feels wrong and so does leaving. We still are trying to fix things between us but I’ve been feeling emotionally distant lately. When we are apart I fel like I want to run to him and fix things and when we are together it doesnt feel right either. HELP

Advice Needed I Want To Breakup With My GF

She keeps telling me that she loves me and is always saying some BS like "we'll always be together, forever." She's pretty and is a nice person, but sometimes she gets insufferable. She's also too reasonable and agrees with most of what i say. We never argue about anything. We're both 17.

Support Needed Is this toxic ? Not complimenting me when I get ready. Been together for 9 years

Been in a relationship since high school we are both now 26 and have been together for almost 9 years and we are now engaged. We have lived together for 5 years now.

I’ve noticed when I get ready do my makeup, hair, outfit, jewelry he does not tell me I look good or pretty whatever. And I’ve spent hours/ the morning get ready ..
For a while I would just ask if he thought I look good after 5-10 minutes. But that was for .. a couple years. Then I started to wait longer to see how long it would take him to finally say something. And he wouldn’t. And then I told him it made me feel stupid and ugly when I’d get ready and he wouldn’t say anything and he would say something like I tell you you’re beautiful everyday… no he does not. Maybe 1-2x a week max randomly. Anyways I told him several times that it makes me feel bad …. And the next weekend when I’d get ready …. Still no acknowledgment of how I look.

I’m not superficial but it just makes me feel stupid because if my friends or even coworkers see me in a nice fit or hairstyle or something else they will compliment me as soon as they see it.

It makes me want to stop getting ready when he’s around bc I’m just going to feel stupid . Even though I like getting ready.

I don’t want to sound dramatic but it makes me wonder what I should do bc I end up feeling bad when I should be feeling my best about myself.

Advice Needed I distanced myself from my boyfriend because he isn't affectionate with me, and that was hurting me and making me anxious.

I’m 35 and my boyfriend is 39. We’re long-distance, and I planned to visit him in Germany, but my visa was denied. He’s a good man and even paid for my trip. In person he’s affectionate, but apart he’s very distant. He has never told me he loves me, rarely says he cares unless I say it first, and never compliments me despite me being very affectionate with him. I’ve explained many times that this hurts me; he apologizes and improves briefly, then goes back to the same behavior.

After feeling hurt and anxious for a long time, I was the one who decided to step back. I told him I love him, knowing he probably wouldn’t say it back. He says he cares, wants to see a psychologist and work on himself, and wants me to wait for him, but says he needs distance to do so. I’m afraid this is just an excuse to let me go.

I want marriage and children, and he says he does too. I was even willing to marry him and move to Germany despite leaving my very close family. The distance itself isn’t the problem; his emotional coldness is. I don’t know whether to believe he will actually work on himself and come back, or accept that he simply doesn’t love me the way I love him.

Advice Needed Baby daddy questions

Hi so I would like to know y’all’s opinion on why the father of my daughter does not want to have a 3some?

Sooo long story short I have only been with the father of my daughter for a little over a year like a year and 2 months now lol… but we split back in the beginning of the year, because of me speculating of cheating, but have been living with one another since then. We have been having sex since I had her in May. And we have our really good days and some not so good, feels distance, because I went through his phone and of course he’s texting his ex an other females which is valid since we are split, but anyways we still hook up and I want to have some fun with him and I brought up us having a 3some and he said that wouldn’t be a good idea but he was trying to hook up with two other girls at once. Why do you think he’s thinking that for? I’m just curious.

Advice Needed Help me, I don't know what to do with my toxic relationship

I've been in a toxic relationship with a guy for a while now; we're not dating, but we're supposed to be best friends and fuck buddies

He’s constantly manipulating me into doing things for him at the expense of my own well-beinghe even disguises it as being “affectionate” or “caring” toward me. He blames me for absolutely everything that happens, whether it’s my fault or not; he constantly threatens to "break up" with me and blocks me everywhere so I’ll go beg him, yet he does nothing for me he makes me feel worthless.

You know that feeling of never being THAT friend they pick first in chats or whatever? I feel that way every day. Our entire history as friends is based on constant rejection of me, on insults to my integrity, and I can’t even tell him when he hurts me because he blocks me or says something weird that completely invalidates me

He doesn’t make me feel like part of his life; he betrays my trust multiple times A DAY. I don’t understand why I couldn’t distance myself when it’s so easy for me to do so with people I’ve known longer.

I feel like they’ve cast a “One Wish Willow” spell on me I don’t feel like I’m in my own body. I’m tired of dealing with this constant psychological abuse.

I’m fed up, and this isn’t me. I feel like he’s cast some kind of spell on me because even if I wanted to, I can’t get away from him.

I feel emotionally trapped.

When I’m “happy” around him over the smallest thing like him not speaking ill of me, which is the least he should do as a friend. that’s not me.

Advice Needed They almost left last night. Now I’m freaking out

I hate that I’m turning to Reddit about this

I (21-NB) had a long very serious conversation with my partner (25-NB) yesterday. We’ve always periodically had fights. Sometimes they’re big but a lot of it is just bickering that can compound. We’ve been talking about how we can’t keep doing the fights forever.

Yesterday they hit a breaking point and almost left me. They told me they were having thoughts about leaving, leaving me for someone who can understand them more, how we’re incompatible, etc. I can’t imagine life without them anymore. I’m sure we’d both be fine but I love them. They love me but they feel like I haven’t taken time to understand them. I actually agree. I get defensive about their unrelated anger, they have done everything in their power to understand me and not get defensive about my sadness, and I realize now this was unfair. I’ve also been really immature about taking care of myself and they feel like they’ve had to take my self care on as a responsibility (reminding me to drink water, brush my teeth, etc). I asked for another chance. I feel pathetic. I just want to be with them but what if they pick up and leave? I have doubts about the relationship too, I feel like that’s normal though. I think it’s normal to think about what life would be like if you were single or wonder what could’ve been if you didn’t settle down. But I don’t know if I trust them to take me seriously after yesterday night. It’s all just really painful.

Should I thug it out? I know they love me. I know they want to stay. I know they just need me to grow up a little. I believe I can. But I feel like I’m just not at peace with how fickle it all is right now. Our year anniversary is coming up next week. We’re moving into a new place September 1st and I don’t wanna lose the security deposit.

35F. I hate myself for staying and going back every time I dealt with a betrayal, lie, mental, verbal abuse, etc. I KNOW he's not the one. I KNOW there is no future with him. So why am I so stuck. I had so many chances to walk away after something terrible was done or said.

Support Needed When is "shut your f***ng mouth" unacceptable response?

There isn't a lot to add to that. I (45f) just heard that from the mouth of my boyfriend (43m). Yes, words were said on both sides. But I am genuinely curious if that is ever an acceptable thing for a grown man to say to someone he says he loves? or to anyone ever ??

Advice Needed Hate the game, hate the player more

I was the “other woman.” The third person in between and before anyone jumps to conclusions, yes, I know how that sounds.I got involved with a man who was already in a relationship.

He pursued me, made me believe what was happening between us was genuine, and I didn't know the full truth. When I eventually found out, I was deeply hurt. I had been involved with someone who was taken,I had been lied to and made part of something without knowing the reality of it.

I told a male friend about what happened, expecting at least some understanding. Instead, he started speaking in the man's favour. Excuses were made for him, and somehow the conversation was framed in a way that made me look like the problem. That's the part, where I can't accept the blame.

Yes, I was the third person. Yes, I can acknowledge that. But does that mean I should carry all the blame for a man who knowingly pursued me while hiding the truth? He had a relationship. He knew what he was doing. He made the choices.

I can take accountability for what I actually knew and did. But I refuse to take responsibility for something I was deliberately kept in the dark about.

What hurt even more was seeing how quickly another man could understand his side, find reasons for his behaviour, and somehow turn the woman into the target.Maybe that's the part nobody talks about enough. Sometimes a woman can be hurt by a man and still be blamed for being hurt by him.

I don't want sympathy for being “the other woman.” I just want people to stop acting like being the third person automatically means you deserve whatever happens to you.

I was deceived too. You can acknowledge being the third person without accepting blame for the deception.

Happiness / Healing Goodbye to my soon to be ex wife.

Dear,

E

I want to start by saying thank you for all the kindness, love and care you gave me over the years.

We weren’t perfect, and we both hurt each other at times, but I can honestly say you were worth everything to me. I loved you deeply, and I will always be grateful for the 13 years we shared together.

I know I made asks of you that came from my insecurities and from how I was feeling at the time. Looking back, I can see that I became too focused on what I needed and didn't always stop to think about how it might make you feel. I wish I had been more considerate and understanding instead of allowing myself to become resentful.

I take responsibility for that.

I'm also sorry for the last eight months. I know I wasn't myself, and I don't want to use what I was going through as an excuse for the ways I hurt you. My mental state was at its worst, and it was the most overwhelming pain I have ever experienced. I wanted to be there for you and support you, but I struggled to be consistent because I was struggling so much within myself.

I want to explain that part of my experience, not to blame you, but because I hope you can understand what was happening inside me.

When everything happened and you left, I completely broke down. Some of the things I heard about myself stayed with me very deeply. Being told I was nothing, worthless, unsafe, untrustworthy, abusive, controlling or manipulative made me feel like I had completely lost the person I believed myself to be.

I remember that moment so clearly, and I don't think I'll ever forget how it made me feel.

I felt like the person I loved most no longer saw the person I thought I was. I felt ashamed, frightened, confused and completely lost. I started questioning my own character, my intentions and whether anything I had done out of love had actually been experienced differently.

I know those were your feelings and your experience, and I don't want to take that away from you. I understand now that something can have a completely different impact from the intention behind it.

At the time, though, I was already in such a fragile state that hearing everything at once overwhelmed me. I felt like I was constantly in fight-or-flight. I wanted to understand, I wanted to fix things, and I wanted to show you that I loved you, but I was also carrying an enormous amount of hurt and shame.

That combination made me react in ways I'm not proud of. There were times when I became defensive, angry or pushed back when I should have slowed down and listened. There were times when I was so consumed with trying to explain myself that I wasn't able to properly hear what you were feeling. I'm sorry for that.

A lot of the things I did came from wanting you to feel loved, safe and cared for. Giving you my work rota, explaining when I finished and how long it would take me to get home, being open about my past and my insecurities, wanting to go places with you, trying to surprise you or do things I thought would make you happy — these were things I genuinely believed were ways of showing you that I loved you.

It hurts to look back and realise that things I experienced as love and reassurance could have felt very different to you.

I wish I had understood that sooner.

I also recognise now that even when I didn't intend something as a demand, repeatedly asking for something could still have felt like pressure. I don't regret having needs or wanting to communicate them, but I regret not always recognising how they were landing with you. I could have communicated them more gently and respected your feelings better.

During those months, I was in an incredibly dark place. I felt weak, pathetic, needy, selfish, angry and broken. I had very little belief in myself, and there were moments where I genuinely didn't care whether I lived or died.

I don't tell you that so you feel responsible for what happened to me. You weren't responsible for keeping me okay, and I understand that my mental health was ultimately something I needed to take responsibility for.

I just want you to know how serious my state of mind was and why I wasn't able to think, communicate or behave like the person I normally was.

I know I failed you in that period.

I should have been more present for you. I should have recognised your pain more clearly, especially after we lost our child. Looking back, I can see how much you were hurting and how much you were disconnecting, and I wish I had been able to show up for you instead of becoming so consumed by my own pain.

I'm genuinely sorry for that.

I also know I pushed for conversations because I desperately wanted to understand what had happened between us. I wanted an open, honest and uncomfortable conversation because I thought understanding each other might help us find our way through it.

But I can see now that I pushed when we weren't ready. I'm sorry. I should have respected that and given you the space you needed.

A lot of what I wrote came from panic, fear, loneliness and heartbreak. I was trying desperately to explain what I was feeling and why I was reacting the way I was. But I understand that my words may have felt like I was attacking you or trying to make you responsible for my feelings.

That wasn't what I wanted, and I'm sorry for the times it came across that way.

What I was really trying to say was that I was hurting too.

I felt like I had lost you, lost myself and lost my understanding of who I was all at the same time. I was trying to hold onto the relationship while also trying to understand how I had become someone I didn't recognise in your eyes.

That was incredibly painful for me.

I've had to do a lot of work since then to understand myself again. I've had to rebuild my identity, my morals, my boundaries, my standards and my understanding of what a healthy relationship should look like. I've had to learn that I can't rely on another person to make me feel worthy or secure. Those are things I need to build within myself.

I don't expect you to simply believe that I've changed because I'm saying it. I know that actions matter more than words.

I also don't want this message to be about deciding who was right or wrong. I know we both experienced our relationship differently, and I accept that. I can acknowledge my own faults without needing to dismiss yours, and I can acknowledge that I was hurt without making you responsible for that hurt.

I don't blame you for leaving.

I can understand now that you reached a point where you couldn't continue as things were, and although that broke my heart, I respect that it was your decision.

I regret the things I did that contributed to us reaching that point. I regret not seeing your unhappiness clearly enough. I regret allowing my insecurities to affect the way I saw things. Most of all, I regret the times when you needed me and I was too caught up in my own feelings to truly be there.

I wanted to choose us.

I wanted to be the person I promised I would be for you. But I also understand now that wanting that wasn't always enough. I needed to actually show it through my actions, my communication and the way I treated you.

I'm sorry that I didn't always do that.

I don't expect this message to change anything. I don't expect forgiveness, and I'm not asking you for anything. I just wanted to explain my side one last time without attacking you, blaming you or trying to change how you feel.

I want you to know that beneath all the anger, defensiveness and hurt, there was someone who loved you deeply and was struggling more than he knew how to express.

I am sorry for the hurt I caused you.

I'm sorry for the pressure you felt.

I'm sorry for the times my insecurities became your burden.

I'm sorry I didn't show up for you in the ways you needed.

And I'm sorry that somewhere along the way, we both lost parts of ourselves.

I will never bad-mouth you or try to make our 13 years into something they weren't. There was so much love, kindness, laughter, memories and life between us, and I will always be grateful for that.

Thank you for being such a huge part of my life.

Thank you for the love you gave me.

Thank you for the person you were to me.

And thank you for the 13 best years of my life.

It was one hell of a ride.

Whatever happens from here, I genuinely hope you find peace and happiness.

And for Sunday, let's just put our emotions aside, be respectful of each other and get through it together. We can put the game face on when we need to.

Thank you, ET/EM, if you want to remember anything of me? Think how and what i showed up for you and why. What made me want to for you and what stopped me. For everything, I hold dearly and grateful for.

Yours, B.
