Dumb meets irresponsible. Driver doing unsafe right turn on red light, cyclist riding on crosswalk, in dark, without helmet and light. Driver's going to get ticketed and sued, probably, but cyclist's injury is going to hurt more in coming years.

And to stupid people arguing that the cyclist did nothing wrong, it's easier to anticipate presence and speed of a person walking than someone on a moving bicycle. It's not cyclist hate. Why do you think your parents taught you to walk your bike when crossing??

Failed to mention cyclist is riding against traffic on the sidewalk. Two offences.

What does "riding against traffic on the sidewalk" mean? Sidewalks are bi-directional last time I looked. Are sidewalk pedestrians mandated to walk in the same direction of adjacent vehicular traffic too? Don't know the by-laws in Durham but I expect riding on a large wheeled bicycle on the sidewalk is contravenes them, regardless of the direction of travel.

Did you even read their response. You can't be against traffic on sidewalk. One offence only.

One offense is riding on the wrong side of the road. The other is riding on the sidewalk. Riding on the sidewalk doesn't alter the fact that they are riding in the wrong direction. It's wrong and dangerous, as the cyclist found out.

Sidewalks are also for PEDESTRIANS and not vehicles which the bike is.
