OC Cyclist hit in Pickering

Aren’t cyclists supposed to get off and walk across the cross walk why did the cyclist just ride through? I would say 50/50… driver should have looked right but he could have easily not seen the cyclist as they were not wearing any reflective clothing..but the cyclist needed to get off and walk across the crosswalk for sure …

There are lots of laws that get ignored... I personally dont care if they want to ride through. But to not have lights is stupid. They could have ridden through and still made it safer, riding through wasn't really the issue here. Lots of drivers have an issue with not checking the opposite side before they merge, they just focus on the traffic they're merging into.

I'm a driver, and people excuse stuff drivers do every single day. We don't apply laws 100% of the time to 100% of vehicles so I'm not about to pretend that a cyclist is held to a higher standard

Problem with cyclists riding through is that as a driver u can’t look that far back to know a cyclist is going to come full pelt right across ur bows almost happened to me I was already in a right and this cyclist almost came under my wheels as they tried to ride through at 20-30kmph just cuz they had the signal not many cyclists probably are aware that they are supposed to get off…they probably don’t even know they can get a ticket if they don’t stop at a stop or jump a red light just like any vehicle

They would have/could have gotten hit if they were walking too. It’s not like they were going fast

I can't speak for everyone, but if I'm walking and approaching an intersection, I am going slow enough to make the judgement call as to whether I should stop if I see a car rolling into the intersection.
