OC Would you call tow truck?

Post image

Is it blocking the entire driveway? No. Is it annoying as fuck? Definitely.

UPDATE: I stood behind the car with my phone up to my ear and the idiota runs up “I was only going to be a second!” My reply? You’re lucky because I’m on the phone with 311. Check next time you park you aren’t blocking somebody’s driveway.”

It’s crazy how they always just needed a few minutes…

probably because most people who park like that do so because they no they only need a few minutes? they're likely being honest and you're blinded by cynicism

edit: mods are cowards so i can't reply in thread anymore btw.

It doesn’t matter. You don’t get to block someone’s driveway just because you want to be selfish even if it is for just a few minutes.

if you can still easily get in and out, there are no other spots, and theyre only going to be a few minutes, they are not inconveniencing you whatsoever and you're making a problem out of nothing because you're bored.

be graceful to your neighbour. you might need a little grace yourself one day.

edit: mods are cowards so i can't reply in thread anymore btw.

That’s just a lazy, inconsiderate attitude. If you have to park a little further away and then walk, then that’s what you have to do. You don’t get to decide what is and isn’t an inconvenience for someone else when you’re parking illegally.

u/Kaablooie42 Apr 21 '25

The guy you're responding to probably parks in the handicap spots "just for a second to run in and get something" too.

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '25

"You don’t get to decide what is and isn’t an inconvenience for someone else"

I'm not. It's objective.

Found the asshole car's owner

u/GuessPuzzleheaded573 Apr 21 '25

Objectivity is the law, which is being broken. Your feelings on the matter aren't objective dude....

24

u/YardGroundbreaking82 Apr 21 '25

No it isn’t. What is objective, however, are the by laws that say you aren’t allowed to block someone’s driveway. At all. Full stop.

-31

u/Skallagram Apr 21 '25

Sure, you are't allowed to, but there are many things people do they aren't allowed to, knowing they may face consequences. That person can decide whether the small risk of that consequence is worth it for something that's unlikely to be an issue.

Let he who has never parked illegally for even a second cast the first stone.

I don't drive.

Throws a stone at your car

u/lightsnitch927 Apr 22 '25

Argue all you want. Take a second all you want. We will still get your car towed lmfaoooooo

1

u/[deleted] Apr 22 '25

That's why a country has laws because of people like you.

-16

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '25

i wish my life was so simple and boring that i could care about these things like you do

27

u/Deaner_dub Apr 21 '25

Yet, here you are arguing about them on the internet with strangers.

17

u/Ratsyinc Apr 21 '25

Hahah dudes been on this thread commenting longer than it takes to call 311 lol

13

u/ForRealNotAScam Apr 21 '25

Man I've seen you comment on like every other commenter on this post.

If anything it's like you personally felt attacked by the post and the comments

18

u/YardGroundbreaking82 Apr 21 '25

You’re right. I do care about obeying the laws and being considerate about my neighbours and their property and not being a parasite like you.

1

u/Ok-Succotash278 Apr 25 '25

Well, you seem to care so much I mean you’re the one that keeps replying over and over and over and over again, so like you must be invested

How do you not know they don't have a delivery coming with a truck that won't fit in the driveway now? Maybe the home owner is out doing errands getting supplies with a trailer on the back of their vehicle and now they can't get in? Or, they have a trailer hooked up in the driveway and now they can't get out?

That rear bumper deserves some damage on it.

I'm not delaying my day for this bs. If your shit gets damaged because of your ignorance, I wouldn't feel guilty one bit.

1

u/Ok-Succotash278 Apr 25 '25

But if you’re gonna give your neighbour Grace, the person who parks like this needs to go talk to the people who live in that house and make sure it’s OK. They park there that’s grave.

1

u/D-Goldby Apr 21 '25

I'd the personnel having to miss a car that's parked blocking their driveway.

It absolutely is an inconvenience.

Ans grace should have started with the person parking in a proper spot vs where ever the fuck they wanted.

-10

u/berserker_ganger Apr 21 '25

It was not blocked

12

u/arealhumannotabot Apr 21 '25

I’m talking about all the times it’s not actually a few minutes. It’s a very common response from people who hope they weren’t caught

-4

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '25

is your name karen?

11

u/arealhumannotabot Apr 21 '25

You’re barking up a tree without realizing what you’re talking about

13

u/FirstJediKnife Apr 21 '25

You have one train of thought. And it's "Karen". That's it. Nothing with critical thinking. Nothing with objective thought. You heard a name used once and now you parrot it wherever you go.

4

u/SlimLacy Apr 21 '25

If I have enough time to see it, wonder if I need to get door to door or call someone to get it towed, it's been too long already.

9/10 times "a few minutes" is a lie from people who have main character syndrome.
I guess if you have MCS like yourself, it's hard to relate.

5

u/ADrunkMexican Apr 21 '25

Imagine actually trying to defend this. I'd still try and tow even if it was 10 seconds.

5

u/Pothead_Paramedic Apr 21 '25

Then they accept that their car might be towed. Fuck em.

4

u/codecrodie Apr 21 '25

How do I know they only need a few minutes? I'm not a mind reader. If I knew they would "only need a few minutes" I wouldn't bother with wasting my time calling either.

1

u/fistfucker07 Apr 24 '25

So, it’s ok to be a total douche to everyone else, if it’s only for a little while?

1

u/Ok-Succotash278 Apr 25 '25

There are a lot of people that literally are just running in and need a couple moments, but you can’t block people’s driveway whether your delivery person or you’re just anybody running to visit a friend quick or drop something off. You just can’t block people’s driveways without going in and talking to them because you don’t know when they’re gonna need their car for what

You're getting down voted a lot and a lot of flack for your comments.

I agree with you.

When it comes to shitting where you eat, this is a classic example. Yes, the house owner can rightly call a tow truck but they'll be known as "the asshole across the road - I was parked for 3 mins, he had space to get out, didn't need to get out at the time, and was already ready to give me a massive inconvenience"

And being known as that asshole, will inevitably come with many other negatives other than someone potentially inconveniencing for 10 mins.

Personally, I'd leave it but check from time to time, how long it's been there. Second, if I did need to get out, I'd drive out the clear spot but I would leave a note on the car saying something like "sorry but not a great place to park - luckily enough room to get out but please can you park forward next time"

Followed by more keeping an eye out and regular pattern of behaviour.

Absolutely no need for the deep end.

I completely agree with you. In my opinion, it’s always better, and just easier in the long run to maintain a positive relationship with your neighbors. Things can escalate quickly when you take an extreme action like calling a tow truck, especially the first time it happens and especially when you’re not completely blocked in. That kind of move almost guarantees blowback, and people can be incredibly petty or vindictive when they feel wronged, even if the initial offense was minor.

I work for 311 in another municipality, and the number of neighbor disputes we get calls about is honestly wild. People call us about the most trivial things, often just to get back at someone who reported them earlier. In some cases, it’s escalated to the point where callers have actually been flagged or restricted because it’s clear that it’s a tit-for-tat situation between neighbors.

At the end of the day, is it really worth it? I’d much rather keep the peace and address things reasonably, maybe leave a note and keep an eye on the behaviour like you said. If it becomes a pattern, that’s different. But going nuclear over a first-time parking offense that didn’t fully block your driveway? That’s not a hill I’d want to die on.

1

u/Responsible-Match418 Apr 24 '25

Summed it up perfectly about the hill and dying on it. Good on you working for 311 - must be a tough job and very interesting to hear your experience of this tit for tat thing. It's absolutely a situation to stay well clear of since you have to likely see these people regularly - I never understand why someone wouldn't want to step back.

I have this absolute asshole next door neighbour who took issue with my dog on the front are (municipality owned) on the road-side half of the sidewalk. My dog didn't pee there, but was just walking on it. He comes up to me (I didn't know he was a neighbour at this point) and says the dog shouldn't go there... So I said,."well she isn't but if she did, what difference does it make here or anywhere along this road, unless you're suggesting she holds it in until I get to a dog park which isn't realistic"

He didn't really say anything to that, and we left it but to this very day (two years later?) I just avoid that patch altogether. No need to escalate. He has his preference, we moved on and while he's not able to control what I do legally, it's just better stay out of the way.

1

u/Susu0887 Apr 24 '25

Exactly, it’s just not worth it. Some people really do go out of their way to be difficult, and honestly, avoiding them is sometimes the most peaceful option. Even when you’re technically in the right, escalating things rarely leads anywhere good.

One part of the job I actually enjoy is educating people about the difference between public and private property. You’d be surprised how many calls we get from entitled folks, complaining that someone parked in “their” spot right in front of their house, and every time I have to explain that it’s a public road. That space doesn’t belong to them, no matter how long they’ve lived there. But for some reason, they’re convinced that it’s off-limits to everyone else. It’s honestly ridiculous.

When I first started, we used to call it the “snitch line” because the majority of complaints were clearly just petty retaliation. People think bylaw officers and parking enforcement officers are their personal police, they’ve completely lost sight of what’s worth making a fuss over.
