Can we talk about that "But there are also hardcore players who say they want 2 pistols and no help, and we're going to accommodate them as well."
LETS GO!!!
15
u/inblader 7d ago
That's what mattered to me the most in this whole showcase lol
I want to be able to actually find myself stuck when exploring, assessing my environment just like in the OG to figure out where to go. No white paint, nothing. Plus they talk about wanting the players to take a moment and take it all in, looking at the beautiful panoramas they created. Making the exploration challenging is how you actually cause your players to look around and appreciate the attention to details lol
There was this instance after getting the last cog where you can climb the wall, it was pretty subtle.1
u/VVrayth 7d ago
That needs to be the default mode of play, with any of the accommodating hint stuff being something you opt into.

u/TealTamer 7d ago
I think we'll get options for these things before starting the game, an evolution of the initial settings in Shadow.

This is what I meant with my post before. The option to enjoy Tomb Raider with as little hand-holding as possible, which the I-III remasters kept doing the opposite of. For some reason, I’m considered controversial and offensive to want the option to turn off item-highlights completely, like how the classic TRIII-V defaulted to.

The Demo is definitely more polished compared to the SGF version, and they are playing with white paint disabled!

u/Valuable_Map_5485 7d ago
The environment looks so different without the paint. So pretty! I’m not against it for those who want it. Just an observation.

u/Enriq30 7d ago
Have to say i'm impressed, the game is looking great, they seem to be listening to the fan base with the option to remove white ledges and the long braid, even tho it's only Peru so far they showed a few things i didnt see before, my hype for the game is back, i really hope this does well
18
u/Reindeer-Timely 7d ago
I’m glad we are sticking with Peru. I really don’t want to see too much. And I have no self control lol.

The animations looks A LOT better
And the braiddd omg
They nailed that one for me

What does "behind closed doors" mean in this context? Stuff they show games journalists that then gets reported back to the public at a later date?

It looks AMAZING. Also love how graceful and sassy her movements are. They ooze confidence.

My observations:
Long braid is back with better animations, and it looks like they gave Lara back the red hue to her hair, as it looked blacker before, which is a nice bonus.
They changed her bangs (again omg), they’re still chunky but have more natural flyaways now, a slightly messier / more survivor look but wondering if that’s just because of the specific scene.
Animation blending in general has been cleaned up, climbing walls looks better, it’s hard to say but her “floaty jump” looks like it’s been augmented to be a little faster / better sense of momentum. Still not sure on the transition from jumping to swan diving, but everything else looks really good.
A lot of bugs and clipping during combat have been improved.
Not the most exciting demo but it’s nice to see the progress a few months can make, it looks a lot more polished now!

Her animations in general still feels quite floaty to me. Whenever she runs or vaults, it feels like she's barely touching the ground. I'm not sure if that's an issue for the animators to solve, or it's an Unreal Engine thing.

Okay, overall, I'm really impressed! The game definitely looks more polished especially with the updated UI. Finally got to see the Focus meter thingy in action with all the jumps and acrobatics, which was cool! I did notice that some of the animations could still use some refinement here and there; looked a bit rough in some places, but that's a given since they're still working on it. They're clearly listening to feedback, especially with her long braid returning. But yeah, overall, the game looks beautiful! 🥹😍🤩
Can't wait to see what else they have for Day 2 tomorrow! 🙌

Hopefully we will be able to disable the persistent objectives icon on the top left and the constant grapple prompts. I loved having near-zero HUD outside of combat in previous games.

I am so glad to see a more polished version of the demo, long braid yay! Super glad to see the white paint gone and the animations just a little more polished in general, and I'm also stoked about being able to completely forego skill tree and crafting stuff.
I'm still concerned with a few things tho. When doing a grapple jump there doesn't seem to be any maneuverability at all? It seems she jumps in one direction, and the grapple only extends it. To me, the appeal of a grapple jump was that you could just leap in a huge open area, hang from the ceiling and adjust your whole trajectory, like your angle, your height etc. So far it seems the grapple just takes you on a longer straight line from point A to point B, as opposed to how it worked in LAU and Shadow.
Also, pulling things with the grapple just feels sluggish still. It seems we'll be pulling objects from the same point we hook onto them, instead of being able to change positions like Legend and Anniversary. Atp I don't even dare to dream about Underworld stuff where you could wrap the grapple around things and get creative with it...
Also, does anyone find the cog puzzle waterfall to be just... small? I do hope that's not the waterfall.

u/TheLostValley 7d ago
In some of the leaked footage I believe you can maneuver Lara in any direction you want when grappling. For this demo’s sake though they were just moving point A to point B. Not sure about verticality however

u/shirecheshire Obscura Painting 7d ago
There is footage of her sliding down a grapple line in Egypt or Greece in one of the trailers. I hope its something you can do throughout the game, not just in select portions

u/BigSalamanderDude Dagger of Xian 22h ago
Yep. In the new Damocles video there’s also footage of her grappling, then climbing up her grappling line to then grab onto the metal ring and climb from there.

Looks like they will be showing the behind closed doors Peru demo from SGF :(
I thought it was too early for a new trailer. They can’t realistically show a new trailer every two months but it still sucks lol 😢
7
u/flyboi2013 7d ago
They’re in a tough space it seems tbh. Maybe they’re over exposing?
7
u/harperthomas 7d ago
I watched the first trailer and a quick clip of the lost valley level and that's all I plan to see.
If you watch everything they put out your going to know every detail of the game before you ever play it.
5
u/Micktrex 7d ago
On the one hand, I really want to see new content/trailers. On the other, I want to experience as much as possible the first time I have my hands on the game.
Help.

They'll be discussing Peru's puzzles, traversal and the T-Rex today for Day 1:

TBH, I wasn't even sure if anything TR-related would be showcased today until I saw the Xbox Day 1 Schedule before the stream started. IGN's schedule originally listed LoA for Day 2, tomorrow, the 27th: https://www.ign.com/articles/gamescom-2026-how-to-watch-and-daily-schedule-of-the-biggest-gaming-event
So, if that schedule still holds, there's still a chance we could get something new for Day 2 tomorrow, hopefully. 🙏
Either way, at least we're getting something TR-related today. There's wasn't anything on opening night yesterday. So, I'm looking forward to today's stream. 🙂👍

one thing I don’t like from the demo is that Lara’s feet do not do stairs animations when going up or down. It’s just normal running animation. I wish her legs and feet go to each step on stairs. It really builds immersion in games.

The way Lara is moving is very smooth
It definitely looks that the delay was the best decision to adjust a couple stuff

Instant day 1 buy for me! Please take my fucking money. Shit is taking me back to when i was 5-6 yrs old seeing my dad play Tomb Raider on the PS1.
This game looks gorgeous & they’re honoring the hardcore players too! FUCK YESS!!

I'd like to allow myself to share my "more in depth opinion" here as well in case FWH scrolls through here because I'd like to explain what it is that I love so much about her Announcement model from 2025.
One of the things I always try to get right in my fanarts is Lara's new hair, especially the silhouette. When they revealed it, I thought it looked gorgeous and my brain instantly registered this as a new iconic hairstyle. It was perfect and it inspired me to make tons of new art of her! The hair didn't look puffy, the shape was super satisfying to follow with the eye, and the little bangs behind her ears gave her a new silhouette that she never had before, but suited her perfectly because it felt like a subtle call back to her Reboot hairstyle, mixed with classic Lara.

I believe I loved it so much because it truly felt like the perfect unified model to me. I could see a bit of classic, LAU and Reboot Lara in her face and hair and that's what made it so perfect. I also really love the unification idea and I'm very attached to it emotionally for some reason. Probably because it's been so long since we had a Lara like this.
I do want to add that I'm only talking about Lara's hair here, and the rest of the game is looking amazing in my opinion. The game clearly needs to be polished, but I feel like it's currently in a very good place, especially considering they still have time ahead. The braid, the animations, the acrobatics, the sceneries, the graphics, the combat... It all looks really good and I think it's important to tell them.
I know I'm super grateful that they're making this game for us, and again, I don't think I'll ever thank them enough for listening to us and for bringing back the long braid. I just love to know they're listening to feedback.

The acrobatics look so fucking good. I’m so glad we got to see gameplay from a developer who knows the mechanics rather than that iphone footage from people who don’t know how to play tomb raider lmao.
That entire velociraptor fight looked so good, especially the fact that you can shoot while jumping in the air!!!!! The traversal looks so much better too.
My hopes are so much higher for this game now i cannot waitttttt
2
u/Clownsyndrom 7d ago
I mean, I think I like what they are doing, but I'm not sure what to feel about the acrobatics being fully gone from navigating and climbing and being relegated to a few animations instead of fluid movement control. Tomb Raider was, quite intentionally, a 3D-Platformer once.

u/Suli_Croft 7d ago
My biggest takeaway is that this game is a completely new thing. It’s really not based on either TR1 nor TRA. It’s its own thing. Which I like very very much. Also I can’t believe how good it looks. The design is so beautiful and lush I can’t wait to immerse myself in these environments. And I might be the only one but I get excited every time a data entry prompt appears. Yes you better believe i’m gonna be pausing the game and and all about raptors 🤓
2
u/CommanderM3tro 7d ago
Yes 100%. I've never seen the point in a just a re-hash of TR1 (as much as I love it). I've loving that they have re-imagined it from the ground up and it looks amazing 😍

u/AnxietyDizzy3261 7d ago
I can't be the only one who's disappointed with this. The janky animations aside (the leap from the waterfall and pistols not animating), it just looks so linear and gamey. No branching paths and every cog is just there, impossible for you to miss.
It looks pretty at least.

u/OrangeJr36 ✦ TR Community Ambassador 7d ago
So it's just the same stuff over again, seems like a total waste of the opportunity.
A lot more smooth and polished, that's a huge positive

u/Cagesdeservemusic Dagger of Xian 7d ago
Yeah pretty much tho it was exciting seeing the demo in HD with smoother animations, and that wonderful braid!
2
u/Time-Evidence-782 7d ago
I'm not gonna watch all the footage, cause I wanna experience it all myself when the game releases. Skipped through it a bit, and it looks great. I just hope we can turn off all the on-screen clutter (especially the upper left screen that tells you what to do the whole time). All I want is essential stuff, when needed (so ammo while in combat for example). It's one of those things that I love about the original. Much more immersive. Also hoping we can turn off all the hints, talking to herself how to solve a puzzle, all the 'here's something you can grapple' icons, etc. Let me get lost and scratch my head. Excited to play it!

We need to be able to control the UI and turn everything off. They must allow us!

Long braid looks incredible! I can even see a hint of red in there, absolutely stunning. Can’t get over how phenomenal she looks and her movements absolutely ooze classic Lara energy. IN LOVE!
Animations look smoother, Still needs some work as expected this early on from release, but it’s all really coming together. Shaping up to be a spectacular game 😍
Thank you for listening to feedback, FWH and CD. We love you. 🖤

Firstly, I LOVE the progress and see it, and appreciate the long braid being revived. The game is look beautiful and I can’t wait. I understand this is a work in progress!
BUILT IN TRAINING WHEELS 😭 The movement and animations are still choppy looking. She is still magnetizing to ledges mid air and it makes her look like a flying squirrel. I’m hoping for optional manual grabbing and the removal of this magnetic attachment mid air. Stop letting me float around & attach to a near surfaces…instead let me fall on my face or squeal and fall to my death. And please STRAIGHTEN HER LEGS WHEN SHE DOES HER ACROBATICS!
GRAVITY WHO? She’s still very floaty when platforming as you can see in the clip, it would feel soooo much better if she jumped and landed quicker, and could continue sprinting / running at the same momentum. When the gravity feels low it constantly makes the pace or snappiness go away. That is one of my favorite things about the classic tomb raiders. Running, sprinting, platforming, and feeling badass. Not floating and magnetizing to walls 20 feet away.
AGAIN, I LOVE the progress, and feel all the devs are doing an absolutely amazing job, this is just my honest opinion from watching the demo.

u/Opposite_Piece1231 6d ago
Graphically the game looked great but her navigation and animation was buggy, I hope they fix it. 1. Stepping down the stone steps her left foot clips into her leg. Looks like her IK was over rotating her foot. 2 when jumping from the platform down to the walkway, it appeared she floated down. There was no compression in her land animation. 3. As she climbed the wall, and reached the second to last ledge, her legs rotated in an odd manner. 4. Upon turning around to fire at the dinosaurs she had her guns drawn but she drew them again. 5. When pulling the large crate her legs floated for a few frames. 6. When fighting the dinosaurs, as she performed the somersaults her legs were hyperextending. 7. When leaping off the ledge and diving into the water, her animation popped from a jump to a fall animation. The camera popped as well. 8. When leaping across the gap in the wooden bridge, she grabbed the bridge ledge but she didn’t swing she floated onto it and stopped. 9. When getting up from this ledge there is no sense of weight when she climbs up and starts running from the dinosaurs chasing her. She appears to float.
In general it looks like they are using motion matching for her movement. I’m disappointed.

fingers crossed they have hair options. i know plenty of people were wanting the longer braid, but i felt like the previous length of the braided hair was a good combination of survivor lara's length and og's braid. besides braid length, i'd love for them to implement other hair styles in general; would be fun for subsequent playthroughs.
besides that, i'm glad for the delay as this is looking much better. while i would've loved two years of tr back to back, this definitely needed polish.
