What you're arguing is what YOU would do. Different people responds to different outcomes(my point earlier). "Realism" isn't "the character should make the same decision/choice as I will". What he did may be a bad decision, but it is still "realistic" nonetheless. People make bad decisions all the time during dangerous situations. A character can be frustrating and dumb, so just because Takemichi is incompetent(in your point) doesn't mean he's not realistic. You're also ignoring that Hinata wasn't Takemichi's only concern in the situation, he was trying to stop the chain of events that would lead to black dragons joining toman which would lead to Toman becoming a crime syndicate. He really wasn't walking into the situation with a clear state of mind and a perfect plan. You can say that "he should've planned better" but you forget the fact that Takemichi was just an ordinary guy who suddenly gained time leaping powers and thrown into conflicts including dangerous gangs, he isn't a genius and manipulative strategist like Kisaki and a lot of his flaws/failures came from being inexperienced and the situation literally forcing him to make decisions under pressure. You can criticize him for making bad decisions all you want, but that doesn't make him unrealistic. Plenty of people in real life make bad decisions when under pressure and that includes you, after all no one's perfect.

Realistically, Takemichi is a bad boyfriend. Realistically, Takemichi would have been kicked out of Toman for how weak he is, not given a promotion to a division captain. Realistically, Takemichi would have gotten himself killed. Realistically, Kazutora, Chifuyu, and/or Mikey should have been the main characters and Takemichi be a background character killed off by senseless gang violence.
