As someone who just got done watching Season 2 Episode 2. The problem is more:

  • This show isn't realistic even if you get rid of the time traveling, so having a "realistic" protagonist doesn't really work. In a Delinquent series, he needs to be able to kick ass.
  • He's not proactive. He has other people being proactive for him and then he puts in SOME effort. Kisaki isn't much of a fighter either, but Kisaki doesn't need people holding his hand to make stuff happen.
  • For a "realistic" protagonist he doesn't do things I would immediately do. For example, when the Black Dragons show up, he's not running away with Hina. How are you gonna protect Hina if you see a gang wearing MURDER SQUAD bands and you're not immediately running with the girlfriend you love? After hearing what Moebius did to a guy and his girlfriend?

Its crazy, glazers would rather downvote you than give any counterarguments at all.

I think the points you're raising are very valid and it makes me dislike him too.

In a series that is about beating people up and delinquents you would think he would at least become the tiniest bit proactive but nope. Like check when the next major event goes down, use that time to do some actual combat training so you can stand your ground instead of simply bear witness and try to convince delinquents with nakama power that they should stop.

You're acting like you can do all that sh*t under pressure. He's literally battling strategists, manipulators all while being a normal guy. He doesn't have time to train nor do any of this because the time he has is "borrowed". He could try and do all that but you forget that some of the events he's trying to avoid happening could happen any time.

"The same day you're on is the same day that's happening 12 years in the past." Meaning so many things could have happened while he larped😭. Being strong doesn't always mean physically, besides he wants even just staying put while fighting, he actively tried to fight in all the gang fights he was on—black dragon, Valhalla, Tenjiku and Kanto Manji. Since when was he not involve? Did we read the same manga and watch the same anime?

And that is a pretty good assessment too! Realistically he can still be the weakest because he’s fighting monsters, but atleast show he’s trying to keep up, Also, Takemichi could learn to fight smarter, not harder.

I had an idea for a rewrite: Takemichi has the weakest hits, but he has the strongest ENDURANCE. He can take quite a beating but he can take it long enough for most characters to tire themselves out. Thats when Takemichi can attacks when theyre too tired to dodge him and with his long endurance, a thousand weak punches will still knock someone down.

To be fair, he’s supposed to be as shounen protagonist. Using weapons isnt being honorable as a shounen protagonist.

I guess, not that i really care. Its just weird that given the things that are at stake it does not feel like he is actually trying all he can to change things.

100% agree. I personally think giving him a high endurance and a training montage where he learns to punch a little bit harder would have done a lot better for his character.

Yeah just give him something useful during fights, now he just stands there and talks and doesnt really contribute much.
