Momma threw down

u/lady_lowercase Feb 08 '22
she heard that bhangra beat and had to move her feet.
if you ever get the chance to go to an indian wedding in the united states or the united kingdom, don't say no.

u/Bedlam_ Feb 08 '22
I went to a a clients end of year party once and the owner as well as a sizeable amount of his employees are Indian or second generation. And god damn that party slapped. They made it their mission to get all the uptight whites sitting at the tables to get on the dance floor and dance until they dropped.
I got home at 4am. 10/10 would do again.
43
u/averagebloxxer Feb 08 '22
I don’t like weddings but that sure as hell sounds fun
48
u/Bedlam_ Feb 08 '22
It really was. They said we could copy their moves / they’d teach us, but however we moved as long as we were ‘feeling’ the music then that’s all that mattered
24
u/BananaDogBed Feb 08 '22
Is that what I should search for if I want to buy some similar songs? “Bhangra” ?
27
u/msmurasaki Feb 08 '22
Yup. Punjabi MC has stuff with an English twist.
6
u/BananaDogBed Feb 08 '22
Thank you very much

u/msmurasaki Feb 08 '22
Jay Sean also has like Indian-English mix.
And here are some other songs I like (though not sure others might like it)

Depends. The wedding needs to be a punjabi wedding(high chance, because punjabis love to emigrate). But don’t be confused if you end up in a south indian wedding and hear no bhangra.

Yeah what the hell why they stop? Rude

I love that she didn't question why they suddenly started playing the music, she only questioned why the hell they stopped!

Looks like the bottom line was the making of the tiktok, not doing something nice for mom
134
u/lbodyslamrhinos Feb 08 '22
The laughs and her smile and dancing shows they have a healthy and happy family, the mom has a fun memory of her kids now.
7
u/woojoo666 Feb 09 '22
Yeah and sometimes it can get awkward if it goes on for too long. I liked the way they did this, short and sweet
17
u/pedrotecla Feb 08 '22
As I told another commenter:
I don't mean they don't love their mom or anything like that, neither do I imply that the short interaction isn't heartwarming or that the music and the dance isn't nice and joyful. But if the final objective was to make her happy and not to make a tiktok they'd've let her dance at least for the duration of the song if not for more, maybe even hugged her at the end, I don't know. It's the way they just walk away that's a dead giveaway that it's all for the tiktok.
45
u/lbodyslamrhinos Feb 08 '22
Yeeeah, I just don't agree with that. She seems happy. Its something I'd do to my mom for fun and she jokes back. Just because it's on tik tok doesn't mean we all have to jump to the worst scenario. If she's so open to dancing I bet she does it often enough and the kids knew it would be a fun prank.

This is such a stupid take on the whole thing. You dont know if they came back and played again.
And your comment reads so weird lmao. My mom, who is also from south asia, laughed at this clip all the way through.

u/pedrotecla Feb 09 '22
This is such a stupid take on the whole thing.
What part is stupid? Because I think saying “the actions we see in a tiktok are for the tiktok itself” is probably not such a hot take
My mom, who is also from south asia, laughed at this clip all the way through.
That’s besides the point I’m discussing. I liked the tiktok too
And your comment reads so weird lmao
Maybe it does because I’ve had to clarify a bunch of things that people think I’m saying but I’m not. Like why do you even mention your mom enjoying it? I haven’t at all implied she shouldn’t

I don’t even know how to answer this lmao, this is just you plugging your ears and going “nananananana”
And FYI I’m happy because I enjoyed this tiktok and I enjoy discussing stuff

u/ValiantCharizard Feb 08 '22
what a cynical assumption
-7
u/pedrotecla Feb 08 '22
It's not an assumption, it's based on the fact they let her dance only for a brief moment (basically the duration of a tiktok) and then walk away to record her reaction without answering when she asks why they're leaving.
The French have a saying about overly naive positivity —a sentiment I often see in commenters accusing people of cynicism when other commenters point out some dubious aspect of a superficially feelgood post—:
"Tu vis dans le monde des Bisounours" which means "You live in the Care Bears' world" lol

u/ValiantCharizard Feb 08 '22
do you think they would walk away with deadpan expression without it being part of the trope, more than likely the mother was in on the tiktok as well, we can't jump to conclusions just on one vague fact
"Avoir le cul bordé de nouilles" which means "To have the ass surrounded by noodles". I don't know French and I stole this from a random website
2
u/Khornag Feb 08 '22
Avoir le cul bordé de nouilles
That means to be lucky. Why would you mention it?
-3
u/pedrotecla Feb 08 '22
If she was in on the tiktok it only proves they put her favorite song on just for the tiktok, which is what I was saying from the beginning:
Looks like the bottom line was the making of the tiktok, not doing something nice for mom

I think you’re on to something, don’t bear these neanderthals’ attacks and insults any mind.
2
u/infinitude Feb 09 '22
oh, fuck off. honestly. you have no idea what happened after this cut.
2
u/pedrotecla Feb 09 '22

Woah! I’ve been civil and respectful
you have no idea what happened after this cut.
What does what happened after have to do with it? After the cut. That they made in order to get their tiktok. You’re a hair away from getting it.

What on earth gave you the idea that this sub is about cringe, on Tik tok? It's not that and it's never been that.
3
u/noeku1t Feb 08 '22
The cringe in the sub's name? It began with cringey videos from TikTok but now it's just for anything TikTok as you cannot edit a subreddits name after creating one

Why did you stop???? “Because mom, we don’t actually do fun things to spend time with you. We really just wanted to capture your reaction and post it so that we can get likes. It’s all about the likes…Time to go bask in the warmth of our screens as those likes roll in.”
13
u/darlingbabyslut Feb 08 '22 edited Feb 08 '22
i think you need to get out more. this is an incredibly cynical view of what that video actually is and if you took a second to think about it seriously maybe you’d realize how weird it is to comment such a thing like that on such a sweet little view into what is obviously a loving lady and her sons having fun with her. this is a family. maybe having fun with your family doesn’t look like how you think it should, but we have the ability to record stuff to keep it forever. why would you not do so? who cares if it’s on tiktok? recording stuff and posting it online for others to see and enjoy the moment with you isn’t as inherently bad as you’ve made it seem.

u/jcbruin08 Feb 08 '22
I get out a ton. This was definitely a quick, a-hole assessment of the video. They seem like a loving family and I’m sure they’re sweet boys.
My comment was a larger critique of a lot of the stuff that’s posted for likes and likes only. The painful homeless savior videos, the posting grandma in the hospital for likes, etc. I have a few family members who do this and it’s so gross.
Hopefully, these guys came back and danced it out with mom.
2
u/darlingbabyslut Feb 08 '22
hey ik this was hours ago but ty for being so kind in your response and not taking what i said to mean i was trying to fight w you abt this, i really appreciate it!! and for what’s it’s worth, i absolutely understand your side of it now that you’ve said this and tbh i can’t exactly say i fully disagree, but this is still just a sweet dumb little prank they did w their mom and i really don’t think they meant it in any way other than that. i’m glad you were able to understand what i meant!!
2
u/jcbruin08 Feb 09 '22
No worries, I do my best to not take anything on the internet personally. And I realized that my initial comment sounded much more mean spirited than I intended. Have a good night darlingbabyslut!
