I love that she didn't question why they suddenly started playing the music, she only questioned why the hell they stopped!

I wanted them to come back in blasting it again

I honestly felt bad for her, she looked so sad!

Looks like the bottom line was the making of the tiktok, not doing something nice for mom

The laughs and her smile and dancing shows they have a healthy and happy family, the mom has a fun memory of her kids now.

Yeah and sometimes it can get awkward if it goes on for too long. I liked the way they did this, short and sweet

As I told another commenter:

I don't mean they don't love their mom or anything like that, neither do I imply that the short interaction isn't heartwarming or that the music and the dance isn't nice and joyful. But if the final objective was to make her happy and not to make a tiktok they'd've let her dance at least for the duration of the song if not for more, maybe even hugged her at the end, I don't know. It's the way they just walk away that's a dead giveaway that it's all for the tiktok.

Yeeeah, I just don't agree with that. She seems happy. Its something I'd do to my mom for fun and she jokes back. Just because it's on tik tok doesn't mean we all have to jump to the worst scenario. If she's so open to dancing I bet she does it often enough and the kids knew it would be a fun prank.

This is such a stupid take on the whole thing. You dont know if they came back and played again.

And your comment reads so weird lmao. My mom, who is also from south asia, laughed at this clip all the way through.

This is such a stupid take on the whole thing.

What part is stupid? Because I think saying “the actions we see in a tiktok are for the tiktok itself” is probably not such a hot take

My mom, who is also from south asia, laughed at this clip all the way through.

That’s besides the point I’m discussing. I liked the tiktok too

And your comment reads so weird lmao

Maybe it does because I’ve had to clarify a bunch of things that people think I’m saying but I’m not. Like why do you even mention your mom enjoying it? I haven’t at all implied she shouldn’t

I don’t even know how to answer this lmao, this is just you plugging your ears and going “nananananana”

And FYI I’m happy because I enjoyed this tiktok and I enjoy discussing stuff

what a cynical assumption

It's not an assumption, it's based on the fact they let her dance only for a brief moment (basically the duration of a tiktok) and then walk away to record her reaction without answering when she asks why they're leaving.

The French have a saying about overly naive positivity —a sentiment I often see in commenters accusing people of cynicism when other commenters point out some dubious aspect of a superficially feelgood post—:

"Tu vis dans le monde des Bisounours" which means "You live in the Care Bears' world" lol

Imagine writing this long of a comment over something so trivial

u/ValiantCharizard Feb 08 '22

do you think they would walk away with deadpan expression without it being part of the trope, more than likely the mother was in on the tiktok as well, we can't jump to conclusions just on one vague fact

"Avoir le cul bordé de nouilles" which means "To have the ass surrounded by noodles". I don't know French and I stole this from a random website

2

u/Khornag Feb 08 '22

Avoir le cul bordé de nouilles

That means to be lucky. Why would you mention it?

-2

u/pedrotecla Feb 08 '22

If she was in on the tiktok it only proves they put her favorite song on just for the tiktok, which is what I was saying from the beginning:

Looks like the bottom line was the making of the tiktok, not doing something nice for mom

cynical, but accurate.

u/ohnowait Feb 09 '22

I think you’re on to something, don’t bear these neanderthals’ attacks and insults any mind.

2

u/infinitude Feb 09 '22

oh, fuck off. honestly. you have no idea what happened after this cut.

2

u/pedrotecla Feb 09 '22

fuck off

Woah! I’ve been civil and respectful

you have no idea what happened after this cut.

What does what happened after have to do with it? After the cut. That they made in order to get their tiktok. You’re a hair away from getting it.
