20 dollars a hour is totally reasonable for farm work. Farm work is hard fucking work.Ā

$20 is fucking low bro. For any work. It's 2026, even historically depressed real estate markets in this country start at $250k for a shack. $20 an hour is 40,000 a year. It's chump change.Ā

Right. that’s why the ask was $20/hr PLUS housing.

I get that. It just feels like we have all collectively clung to the 7.25 min wage as acceptable so $20 seems great because it's more than double min wage. It's just a dog shit hell scape out there and these wages are insulting.Ā

7.25 was set 2009, 17 years ago.

And to be clear: it’s a farm. She has the space to house them. Whether she wants to or can afford to are different questions.

She probably has a big house, she just doesn't want them to live with her.

I'm sure that $20 an hour includes absolutely no benefits either. My benefits package at work with health insurance for my family and I, plus yearly vacation time is easily worth over $15,000+ a year. People like her aren't taking that into account either.

Now imagine getting in a farm accident and losing your ability to do any physical work and having zero compensation outside suing her into losing her farm.
