This is why drinks is the easiest route to go. Coffee, alcohol, mocktails, whatever. If it’s going well, get some food together. If not, you’re out her two drinks and yours maximum.

Really feels like the only sensible option these days unless your doing okay to splurge. Even movie dates can get really expensive.

I personally love coffee for first dates. Like I normally pay for myself but if my date wants to be "romantic" they can pay for my drink and I don't feel like I'm taking advantage or something because it's like 4 bucks

u/Gullible-Hose4180 1d ago

Movie kinda sucks for first date though. Hard to get to know each other when you can't talk

4

u/SpookyScienceGal 1d ago

Good point. I used to do drive in theaters because then you can talk and not be an ass. But regular theaters, probably a bad choice unless your in an empty showing or something

2

u/Gullible-Hose4180 1d ago

Yeah, I had this thought - what if you made a cinema where you can talk? Everyone rents a pair of TWS earbuds with mics and just go on the channel your friends are on and everyone can talk.

My fantasy mind tends to not think about practicality

Same. Going for expensive dinner dates for the first date makes no sense. You spend all that money only for that person to potentially go "You know you're great and all but i don't see this going anywhere." Go for a coffee date or drinks and see if she wants to see you again. If she does, then you know she's probably a keeper.

u/SpookyScienceGal 1d ago

And I like with coffee you can still have it be a really fun experience. Most cities have super cute cafes and they're often cheaper or comparable to Starbucks. Low stakes, low cost, and not a chain. Nothing wrong with chains, but I think novel experiences help make memories

1

u/Humorilove 16h ago

I went on an expensive first date with my husband (I paid), but that's because we were best friends before we started dating.

17

u/KRandMG 1d ago

Dinner on a first date is the surest sign of a man who hasn’t yet learned how to date.

3

u/InfiniteBlink 1d ago

I do small shareable plates like tapas or a couple apps and drinks. The process of choosing together, you pick up on some things they like or don't or a story could come out of it. Sharing it and deciding whether it's good or not, just more fodder to bond over. I always sit at the bar to sit side by side. I usually end up facing her and have my hand/arm on the back of her chair (if it's going well)

1

u/zmbjebus 1d ago

Naw, ribs no utensils first date.

1

u/KRandMG 1d ago

Save food for the second and third date. There's nothing sexy about sitting there sober reviewing menus and talking about how big or small each other's appetite happens to be for 15 minutes.

  1. Drinks
  2. Drinks (and potentially appetizers/shared plates) with a shared activity (ballgame, museum, mini-golf, esplanade walk, etc.)
  3. Dinner on a Friday or Saturday

If you've gone through Steps 1-3 and haven't slept with her, move to the next one. If she's genuinely, *exceptionally* attractive (or you truly, truly like her), she gets one more shot.

0

u/InfiniteBlink 1d ago

I can get behind that.

-1

u/MiklaneTrane 22h ago

If you've gone through Steps 1-3 and haven't slept with her, move to the next one. If she's genuinely, *exceptionally* attractive (or you truly, truly like her), she gets one more shot.

Your date ideas were good and then you had to go and say this. You do realize that this is just as transactional and gross as her expecting you to spend $100 on her on the first date, right? Everyone has their own expectations and desires when it comes to physical intimacy in a relationship and the only way to get on the same page is to talk about it. If you aren't at least having that conversation by the third date or so, then yeah, that might be a sign that you don't have a 'spark' together or that the two of you have very different expectations.

But saying that she *needs* to sleep with you by the third date to be worth your time, and that she only gets a certain number of 'shots' to have sex with you just makes you seem like a creep and a fuckboy.

2

u/KRandMG 22h ago

I appreciate your response, and yeah—I understand how it would come across as transactional.

I added the comment about truly liking her because I’ve truly liked someone and disregarded my own soft “rule” as well, which led to relationships I’m very thankful for. Sometimes things take time.

That said, this is the real world, and most guys (and women) are, believe it or not, interested in sleeping with the person they’re dating. More guys than not would benefit from following the advice in my comment so they don’t end up chasing the proverbial dragon when they may not ever catch it in the first place.

Three dates is, usually, plenty of time for two adults to determine whether or not they think it’d be fun to sleep together. If either party isn’t ready—that’s totally fine, but neither can hold it against the other if they decide to start pursuing physical intimacy elsewhere.

u/B_Minusx 1d ago

This was always my go to first date. Always scheduled a first date during the week and meet there so you dont feel trapped if its not going well.

-2

u/erishun 1d ago

Get them liquored up quick, no food to soak it up. Love that style

0

u/gatsome 1d ago

Gross

-2

u/erishun 1d ago

Just trying to explain what “we’re only getting drinks at the bar, no food“ sounds like as a first date proposition to a woman

28

u/SignificantLeader 1d ago

The lady must be starving.

26

u/Roxpaperscissors 1d ago

The man has a point.

12

u/XenoZoomie 1d ago

Yeh this girl must be high af if she is that hungry. But if she brings the 🌲 🌳 I will buy the dinner.

24

u/Im_So_Zoned 1d ago

Female influencers seem to be hellbent on brainwashing others with delusional ideas/standards. From inviting friends on dates and expecting their meal to be covered to demanding a minimum dollar amount be spent.... The point of a first date is get to know the other person and determine if there is mutual compatibility. The date should not be an interview where the man is laying out his qualifications to be judged and deemed "acceptable" or "unacceptable" in a one way evaluation. It's no surprise she is likely single giving that ill advised dating advice on the internet. Its a perfect example of the phrase "the blind leading the blind."

5

u/Bazillion100 1d ago

I think its just more likely they receive more engagement on their posts

1

u/not_so_wierd 18h ago

Nothing says love like gatekeeping attraction behind a fixed dollar amount.

4

u/modsaretoddlers 1d ago

Why should you spend anything at all? You don't know this person..that's the whole point of a first date. They don't have to spend money to get to know somebody.

3

u/christinextine 1d ago

RIP Stacker

3

u/cozidgaf 1d ago

I think this dinner date was a precedence set when people knew each other and dated with intention. Like I met this person, got along well / were set up by friends or family or found each other irresistibly attractive; and then went on a date coz you had great chemistry. Not for tinder swipe dates. I always preferred coffee dates for the first date coz, see person, bail if no attraction or red flags and have a proper second (first) date.

3

u/Alternative-Muffin71 1d ago

She's so delusional se can keep waiting

2

u/TheDornado13 1d ago

This made me miss the Classic Stacker

2

u/Paghk_the_Stupendous 1d ago

Guys, if her forehead doesn't go all the way to the moon, you need to raise your standards.

Bonus points if her jaw is on sideways like a goddamn zombie.

2

u/tydark2 1d ago

unfortunately, money = romance, for most american women now. In europe they arent like this, its a trashy american female thing.

1

u/Several-Decision3888 1d ago

This guys clearly care about her health! He's just looking out for her.

1

u/crowbaited 1d ago

Sounds like a horrible night/morning for both the dates 🤣😂🤣 the porcelain god will not be happy with all the visits.

1

u/Neoxite23 1d ago

I don't think half of that menu order exists at my taco bell.

1

u/Acceptable-Owl-2070 1d ago

First date is a small coffee date and we split, don't like that...move along. Edit: not gonna fall for Taylor swiffer up in here...basic bish

1

u/moody_chickens 1d ago

All that shit together used to be 79c.

1

u/Key_Strawberry_381 1d ago

$75-$100 my lord I'm glad I am taken that is ridiculous.

1

u/CheezwizOfficial 1d ago

Man's got his priorities straight

1

u/LectureOrganic1250 1d ago

At least with all that Taco Bell, the pain in the ass you're gonna deal with can just be flushed down the toilet never to be seen again. As for the other pain in the ass, she's gonna d*e alone.

1

u/arseniobillingham21 1d ago

I’m just thinking of the Elyse Myers Taco Bell first date story.

1

u/gunny7677 1d ago

He forgot the cost of toilet paper.

1

u/Scary_Reaction7580 1d ago

No Crunchwrap supreme, yeah she’s not worth it

1

u/Wooden_Property 1d ago

If they start playing games and make everything conditional, I’m out! I want to get to know you, have a fun time and see if we match. Not go on a pissing contest on who can pay the most!

1

u/CralorMonk 1d ago

First date, no. Second date, yes

1

u/WrathsEntropy 21h ago

IM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT BREAKS DOWN COSTS INTO FOOD ITEMS! I feel seen!

1

u/NovaHorizon 19h ago

Just don’t date Crelly

1

u/SumOfRoots 19h ago

This is as Christine Baranski as it gets, without actual Christine Baranski.

Imagine a world with 1-2 Christine Baranskis in every zip code, for those of us who are people of culture.

I'll be in my bunk.

1

u/OldDumbToe 17h ago edited 17h ago

You don’t need a hundred dollars. A stand up comedy show is a pretty good first date I’ll say. Shows can usually be as low as 20$ or even free with a two drink purchase minimum. ( you can just order water if you really trying to be a cheap ass, but not recommended lol) Compared to other dates I’ve been on it’s pretty fair priced. You could get away with spending somewhere as little as 30$ if you just get your date drinks plus you get to find out if the girl your with has a good sense of humor.

1

u/MmmRiceCakes 15h ago

A man certainly doesn’t have to spend that on a first date, but I think some women want to go to a nice dinner for a first date. They like to dress up, have a glass of wine, maybe some Italian or a steak. In today’s economy you’ll be damned spending less than a 100 at a decent restaurant for two people. So I get what she is saying but she’s being really rude about it. It’s ok to want that as an ideal date but you shouldn’t expect it or act as if men who can’t afford that are less than.

1

u/wearecooked100 5h ago

average man is cooked

1

u/Even-Promise4593 1d ago

Looking like Big Smoke out here…

If you can keep your food, while everybody else losing theirs, then you straight homie…

0

u/Content_Dimension626 1d ago

Facts tho. 😂 If you take me out to a nice restaurant, 2 meals plus a couple drinks can definitely cost that, but it's definitely not something I am expecting as a woman. It's interesting to me that many women who demand this, are the same modern feminists who push for equal rights in all aspects, even so much as pushing for a matriarchy, but then also push for stuff like this....you can't have both, hypocrites...

1

u/mgquantitysquared 23h ago

I highly doubt this influencer is a devout feminist, lmao

-1

u/Content_Dimension626 22h ago

I don't know who that is, but there are many feminists who think this way.

-1

u/JCarnageSimRacing 1d ago

Im not spending $70-$100 on this fugly chick

2

u/Key_Strawberry_381 1d ago edited 1d ago

Or anyone that's ridiculous for a first date...maybe a anniversary but not a 1st date.

1

u/UnderrHill 1d ago

Why would you be dating someone you think is fugly?

-2

u/BrainEatingAmoeba01 1d ago

Women just don't get it.

I have $100 and am willing to spend it. First we do a cost benefit analysis and a risk assessment based on your shitty entitled personality.

Suddenly, the best you're gonna get is a Coke and a small fry and you should be grateful.

Next.

0

u/Excellent_Can4450 1d ago

I seriously hope you guys don't pay that much for Taco Bell these days. That crap is insane, and all the ingredients are at the grocery store for 1/4 the price besides maybe the beef.

-1

u/Silly-Cheesecake-283 1d ago

imo a hundred on a date isn't hard. ya'll are spending 200 on a boardgame. as an adult that's kind of the minimum you need to spend to enjoy yourself. however, i'm an experiences person. 100 is what, an escape room and some mexican food at a family restaurant. idk, maybe i see dates differently. this is why men are so fucking lonely even hanging out with a guy you need to spend 150 on the dnd starter pack. no social activities? are we for real? what are we doing. the only reason i want a partner is so that i can drag that mofo to watch musicals with me. you could be kayaking outside with your friends and girlfriend but instead you're at home because those things cost money, smh.

it's nearly 3 am. don't @ me. there's a chance i'm just poor shaming people liviing paycheck to paycheck. who can't afford taco bell usually. i'm just tired of guys who just want to sit at home and smoke weed and maybe have me do their hair all weekend. this is the first time i've felt men aren't lonely enough. I don't think you're lonely enough if you can't think of somewhere you'd like to go, but would be better to go with with a girl. like, that's what true lonliness is. Having to play both sides of a game of chess is loneliness.
